US Sanctions Harming Iranian People: Rouhani

Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani says the US has made itself more infamous in the world and among the Iranian nation by imposing cruel sanctions that harm the people of Iran.

Rouhani noted that if the Americans are honest and are really looking for security in the region, they have not chosen a right path.

Speaking in a cabinet session on Wednesday, Rouhani underlined that the US has chosen the wrong path by reinstating sanctions on Iran and will be defeated.

“They thought they can totally cut Iran’s oil sale. But later on they realised this is not practical both because of their internal issues and oil price hike,” added Rouhani.

“The US understood that we will sell our oil. There are so many ways for us to sell our oil to make their sanctions ineffective,” he went on to say.

“We keep our financial relations with the world; it may be difficult a little bit, but the Ministry of Oil, the Central Bank, the Ministry of Economic Affairs, the Plan and Budget Organization, and other ministries and authorities would firmly stand against the United States.”

Washington reinstated cruel sanctions targeting Iran’s oil industry early November under the pretext of forcing Tehran to curb its nuclear programme, and stopping the development of ballistic missiles as well as its regional presence.

On Tuesday, US National Security Adviser John Bolton said that Washington wants to step up enforcement of sanctions on Iran and “squeeze them very hard.”
