1,600-year-old juniper tree discovered in Iran’s West Azarbaijan province

A 1,600-year-old juniper tree has been identified in the Zinehar forest reserve near Takab, West Azarbaijan Province, marking it as the oldest tree in the region in northwestern Iran.

This ancient tree features three trunks, each over 1.5 meters in diameter, with branches reaching heights of approximately five meters and extending over 30 meters in length.

The head of Takab’s Natural Resources and Watershed Management Department has urged visitors to avoid damaging this historical tree, emphasizing its significance as a living relic of the area’s ancient forests to be preserved for future generations.
