Ayatollah Jannati Resigns as Leader of Tehran’s Friday Prayers

The Leader of Iran's Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei has agreed to the resignation of Ayatollah Ahmad Jannati from leading the Friday prayers of Tehran.

Jannati, 91, in a letter to Ayatollah Khamenei offered his resignation after serving as the Friday Prayers Imam of Tehran for 25 years.

In his letter, he also appreciated the trust and support of the Leader during all these years.

Jannati is currently serving as the chairman of the Assembly of Experts, the body charged with choosing the country’s Leader, and as Secretary of the Guardian Council, the body in charge of checking legislation approved by the Parliament with the Constitution and Sharia, and vetting the candidates in various elections.
