He also noted that 94 people have died of the virus in the past 24 hours, increasing the death toll to 5,391.

Lower Dependence on Oil Helped Iran Avert Price Drop Damage: President

Lower Dependence on Oil Helped Iran Avert Price Drop Damage

Addressing a weekly cabinet session on Wednesday, Rouhani said the coronavirus pandemic and the unprecedented plunge in the oil prices have harmed economies in the world and made economic forecasts pointless.

“The situation we are witnessing in the oil (industry) is rare, as all oil-rich countries, including us, will suffer losses, but our losses in such conditions would be much less,” the president said.

“The more a country has been reliant upon crude oil, the more difficult conditions it will have. But since our dependence on oil has been reduced, either intentionally or unintentionally, by design or imposed by the enemies, we will definitely suffer less harms,” the president added.

He further highlighted Iran’s success in coping with the coronavirus outbreak and containing the spread of the disease, saying the production of medical supplies and disinfectants inside the country has reached such a high level that Iran can now export those items after fulfilling the domestic needs.

The president also paid tribute to all Iranian people, entrepreneurs and knowledge-based companies for contributing to the national efforts in the battle with COVID-19.

President: Iran Ready to Share Experience in Coronavirus Battle with Oman

Iran Ready to Share Experience in Coronavirus Battle with Oman

In a telephone conversation with Sultan of Oman Haitham bin Tariq Al Said on Wednesday, President Rouhani pointed to the tough conditions in the region and the world due to the outbreak of the novel coronavirus, and stressed the need for collective action by all countries in the fight against the disease.

The president also voiced Iran’s readiness to provide the friendly and neighboring state, Oman, with the experiences and achievements in the battle with COVID-19 and to offer whatever assistance necessary.

Paying tribute to the late sultan of Oman Qaboos bin Said, the Iranian president wished the new sultan success and expressed hope for closer ties between Tehran and Muscat during Sultan Haitham’s tenure.

Highlighting a rise in the volume of trade exchanges between Iran and Oman over the past recent months, President Rouhani emphasized the necessity for the expansion of relations in all fields.

“We are interested in the immediate implementation of the agreements between the two countries, including the Iranian gas exports to Oman and the Omani investment in Chabahar port, which would serve the interests of the two governments and nations,” President Rouhani noted.

He further commended Oman for its cooperation and measures regarding the peace initiative proposed by Iran, known as the Hormuz Peace Endeavor (HOPE), stating, “We are fully prepared to act in line with that initiative or any other initiative that would leave the crisis management of the region in the hands of the regional countries.”

Throughout history, the Strait of Hormuz has been left in peace, stability and calm in light of the good relations between Iran and Oman, President Rouhani noted, adding, “We have always tried in recent years to prevent the outbreak of war and bloodshed in the region, and we must proceed with the efforts to stop the war in Yemen which has brought about devastation and famine.”

Regional stability will be undoubtedly ensured in light of friendly ties among the regional countries, the president emphasized, saying Iran keeps calling for cordial relations among the neighbors.

Expressing hope for closer interaction between Iran and Oman and their cooperation on the bilateral and regional issues during Sultan Haitham’s tenure, President Rouhani congratulated the Omani people and government on the beginning of the holy month of Ramadan.

For his part, the sultan of Oman hailed the close and amicable ties with Iran, noting, “Our relations are historic, and I give an assurance that such ties will continue like under late Sultan Qaboos’ rule.”

The Omani leader also stressed the need for the enhancement of ties between Muscat and Tehran in all arenas, noting that implementation of the previous agreements would be to the benefit of both nations.

Sultan Haitham finally praised Iran’s stance and policies on establishing peace and stability in the region and ensuring security of the Strait of Hormuz, adding, “We must all try to keep the region away from any war and worrying incident.”

Iran’s Strategic Information Power Elevated by New Satellite, Commander Says

Iran’s Strategic Information Power Elevated by New Satellite, Commander Says

In remarks following the successful launch of Iran’s first military satellite into an earth orbit on Wednesday morning, IRGC Commander Major General Hossein Salami said the multipurpose satellite will greatly enhance Iran’s defense capabilities.

He noted that the world’s powerful armies would be lacking in a comprehensive defense plan without reaching the space, adding that it was necessary for a strong defense force such as the IRGC to acquire the space technologies.

“Achieving this raising technology which takes us to space and expands the domain of our capabilities is a strategic achievement,” the commander stressed.

By launching the new satellite, the IRGC has taken a major step in promoting the scope of strategic information capabilities, the general added, noting, “Today, we can see the world from the space, which means the enhancement of the strategic data of the IRGC.”

He finally noted that the multipurpose satellite is producing “strategic added value” for Iran both in the information technology sphere and in the information warfare.

The IRGC successfully put Noor (light) into orbit on Wednesday morning. The homegrown satellite was launched with a three-stage satellite carrier, dubbed Qassed (messenger), and has been placed into an orbit 425 kilometers above the Earth.

Iran Able to Export Health Items Needed to Fight COVID-19

Iran Able to Export Health Items Needed to Fight COVID-19

Hassan Rouhani said Iran is now producing a whole range of equipment, including coronavirus diagnosis kits, antibodies, face masks and other supplies.

He said the products are enough to meet domestic needs, and added some of them are surplus to requirements and can be exported to other countries.

The president thanked efforts by different sectors for their contribution to the national campaign against the coronavirus outbreak.

He then made it clear that the pandemic is not over yet, urging people to keep abiding by health protocols.

“If we think we have finished the job in the fight against the coronavirus and now we are taking the final steps, we will definitely be harmed,” he said.

President Rouhani further noted that the COVID-19 pandemic has turned into a test for all countries to gauge their efficiency and preparedness.

Elsewhere in his remarks, he took a swipe at “a small group” of people who seek to provoke anxiety among people over the coronavirus outbreak by spreading untrue words on social media and elsewhere.

He also dismissed some profiteers who have tried to cash in on the pandemic for their own gain.

“These people once took advantage of sanctions [for their own benefit] and now are taking advantage of the coronavirus,” he said.

The president urged people to keep abiding by social distancing measures and health protocols amid the COVID-19 outbreak.

He also underlined that the country’s medical personnel have become more experienced in fighting the disease.

He said the success in the fight against the coronavirus is not only because of the government’s efforts; rather, is has been due to people’s attempts.

He referred to the gradual reopening of some businesses, and added precautionary measures need to remain in place until “we get through this.’

Iran Ready for Unlimited Expansion of Ties with Uganda

In a Tuesday telephone conversation with his Ugandan counterpart Yoweri Museveni, President Rouhani hailed the perfect relations between Tehran and Kampala on the basis of mutual respect, saying, “We are prepared to enhance the bilateral ties in all fields without any limitation, and to employ the whole capacities and capabilities of the two countries in line with the friendly relations.”

Pointing to the difficult conditions that the outbreak of coronavirus has created for the nations, President Rouhani stressed that all countries should join hands in the battle with the disease.

“The special global situation should affect the interaction between the countries, so that certain states could not continue with their illegal measures,” he added.

The international relations are based on the principle that all parties remain committed to the international regulations, President Rouhani stated, adding, “Unfortunately, we are still witnessing the continuation and escalation of the cruel and illegal American sanctions against the Iranian nation in spite of the tough conditions due to the outbreak of coronavirus, as they (Americans) have violated the international law and regulations even on the delivery of medicine and humanitarian aids.”

The Ugandan president, for his part, denounced the US’ illegal actions against Iran, stressing that the humanitarian relations must have priority in the current difficult conditions.

It is necessary to promote peaceful coexistence and resolve the conflicts politically, Museveni underscored.

The African president finally hailed the close and friendly ties between Uganda and Iran, and called for the expansion of relations in all fields.

The satellite was launched by a two-phased carrier in central Iran earlier on Wednesday, April 22, 2020. It was put into orbit at an altitude of 425 kilometers from the earth’s surface. This is a major accomplishment in Iran’s space domain. The newly-launched military satellite is named “Noor” that means “light” in Persian. President: Iran Ready to Share Experience in Coronavirus Battle with Qatar

Iran and Qatar to form joint working group for South Pars study

In a telephone conversation with Emir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani on Tuesday, President Rouhani lauded the friendly and brotherly ties between Tehran and Doha, saying, “As a friend and neighbour, Qatar has always had significance for Iran in the bilateral, regional and international relations.”

The Iranian president also stressed the need for collective action and joint cooperation among all countries in the battle with the novel coronavirus.

Highlighting Iran’s careful planning and its measures to contain the spread of coronavirus, treat the patients and implement the policies on the economic, administrative and educational activities amid the outbreak, President Rouhani said the Islamic Republic is prepared to share its experiences in handling the coronavirus with all countries, particularly with the friendly and brotherly nation of Qatar.

He further called for efforts to proceed with the economic and trade interaction between Iran and Qatar in conformity with the health protocols, urging that the officials of the two countries should make efforts in the economic cooperation joint commission to that end.

The president then denounced the US sanctions on Iran, stating, “Not only are the US’ pressures and cruel sanctions against Iran a violation of the international regulations, but they (Americans) are also trampling on the humanitarian principles by exacerbating their behaviour under such difficult conditions, including by preventing the International Monetary Fund from giving Iran a loan.”

“We believe that in such special situation, all countries in the world should stand with each other in the battle with the coronavirus and should explicitly express their stances on the US’ hostile measures,” President Rouhani noted.

He also strongly deplored the continuation of the Saudi-led military coalition’s devastating attacks on Yemen, adding, “Sadly, they are not still ready to end their inhumane measures, but we have no doubt that they will realize sooner or later that they have to change their path.”

“We believe that the only way to ensure sustainable security and stability in the region is cooperation and friendship among the regional countries,” President Rouhani underlined.

For his part, the Emir of Qatar wished the Iranian government and nation and all Muslims in the world health, and stressed the need for joint action and cooperation to contain the spread of coronavirus.

Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani also called for efforts by the Iranian and Qatari officials to enhance the relation and economic cooperation between the two Muslim countries.

He also slammed the US’ cruel sanctions against Iran, noting, “Today, the world is in special conditions, and we believe that under such circumstances, the US must lift the sanctions and the whole countries should also move towards the new situation.”

Deploring the continued problems in the region, the Qatari Emir expressed hope for ceasefire in Syria and Yemen and for the settlement of the regional problems through collective cooperation.

President Rouhani referred to the US’ move to impose “cruel and illegal sanctions” on Iran in the current difficult conditions and put pressure on the International Monetary Fund for blocking a loan for Iran, and noted, “Today, all countries of the world are facing tough times, and the friendly countries should further cooperate.”

Highlighting the need to exchange experiences between Iran and Russia in the fight against the coronavirus, the President said officials in the two countries must work to conduct trade in accordance with the health protocols.
