Iran to Build Houses for Low-Income Families

Iran to Build Houses for Low-Income Families

Mohammad Baqer Nobokht said eight thousand of these houses are allocated to villagers and two thousand units will be built on the outskirts of Mashhad.

He made the remarks at a ceremony to launch several projects in Bardaskan, southwest of Khorasan Razavi on Saturday.

He added that the move to build houses for low-income families in Khorasan Razavi started in December this year and will be completed within a year.

Nobakht, who is also the head of the Plan and Budget Organisation, said, “This project was implemented in South Khorasan province last year and ten thousand residential units for low income groups were completed yesterday on December 27th.”

He also pointed to the flood that hit various parts of the country earlier this year, noting that it inflicted large-scale damages.

“The total damages of April floods amounted to nearly 3 billion dollars, which the government compensated part of it through grants and partially by low interest loans.”

“Grants and loans were paid in a situation that the government was struggling with financial problems. However, in addition to compensating for the flood damages earlier this year, the government has also spent over $3 billion on the country’s infrastructure, including the construction of highways and railways,” concluded Nobakht.

Iran’s Beauties in Photos: Haj-Aqa-Torab Bath

Haj-Aqa-Torab Bath (4)

Located in Haj-Aqa-Torab alley in Aliabad neighbourhood of Nahavand in western Iran, the monument was constructed on 1851 during the reign of Naser al-Din Shah Qajar by Haj Mirza Mohammad Naqi, a well-respected authority of the city.

It was, however, named after Haj Mirza’s son, Haj-Aqa Torab, also a prominent figure of the Qajar area.

Registered in the list of Iranian national heritage on December 1976, the bath includes two separated sections for men and women, and two large and small hot and cold rooms.

The building has impressive decorations such as tiles with pictures of ancient Persian tales and Shahnameh (Book of Kings), decorative stones of white marble, and white lime with beautiful paintings and poems.

Nahavand is an important historical city in the south of Hamadan province. Various theories are developed about the historical background of this ancient region.

UNGA Condemns Myanmar’s Abuse of Rohingya Muslims

UNGA Condemns Myanmar’s Abuse of Rohingya Muslims

In a session on Friday, the 193-member body voted 134-9 with 28 abstentions in favour of the resolution, which also calls on Myanmar’s government to take urgent measures to combat incitement of hatred against the Rohingya and other minorities in Rakhine, Kachin and Shan states.

UNGA resolutions are not legally binding but they reflect world opinion.

Buddhist-majority Myanmar has long considered the Rohingya to be “Bengalis” from Bangladesh, in spite of their families having lived in the country for generations.

Nearly all have been denied citizenship since 1982, effectively rendering them stateless; they are also denied freedom of movement and other basic rights.

The long-simmering Rohingya crisis exploded on August 25, 2017, when Myanmar’s military launched what it called a clearance campaign in Rakhine in response to an attack by a Rohingya armed group.

The campaign led to a mass exodus of Rohingya to Bangladesh, and accusations that security forces committed mass rapes and killings and burned thousands of homes, Al Jazeera reported.

The resolution expresses alarm at the continuing influx of Rohingya to neighbouring Bangladesh over the last four decades, now numbering 1.1 million including 744,000 who arrived since August 2017, “ïn the aftermath of atrocities committed by the security and armed forces of Myanmar.”

The UNGA also expressed alarm at an independent international fact-finding mission’s findings “of gross human rights violations and abuses suffered by Rohingya Muslims and other minorities” by the security forces, which the mission said “undoubtedly amount to the gravest crimes under international law.”

The resolution called for an immediate cessation of fighting and hostilities.

The blast targeted a tax collection centre during the morning rush hour in Mogadishu, Police officer Mohamed Hussein said.

Close to 100 wounded people, including children, were rushed to hospitals. Among them were several university students who had been travelling in a bus, Hussein said.

There were conflicting reports about the number of casualties. Speaking to Al Jazeera, the adviser to Mogadishu’s capital said the death toll “is above 90 at the moment”.

“There are many casualties as well so the death toll is expected to rise,” Hodan Ali said, adding that the explosion took place at the Ex-Control junction.

Abdiqadir Abdirahman, the director of the Aamin Ambulance service, said that 61 people were killed in the attack.

A large plume of black smoke rose above the capital marking one of the deadliest attacks in Mogadishu in recent memory.

The findings, among the oldest collections of the Islamic period in Mazandaran province, play a pivotal role in portraying cultural sequences and also the events of various Islamic eras.

The head of the archaeology department of the city of Behshahr in Mazandaran province said nine immovable sites as well as some other movable works including pottery, earthenware, pieces of glass, iron and bronze objects, and stone blade have been discovered in the region.

In winter 2018, the site was excavated and some parts were demolished. However, after receiving reports that the owners demolished the cultural monuments the operation was immediately stopped.

Overall, remnants from prehistoric, historical, and Islamic artifacts have been identified during the destruction of much of the site.

In addition to the Safavid to the Qajar period, considerable works have been obtained from the early Islamic eras as well as the Ilkhanid period.

Iran-China-Russia Drills Show Commitment to Secure Waterways

“Our joint military drills in Oman Sea/Indian Ocean with our Russian and Chinese partners make clear our broader commitment to secure vital waterways,” Zarif said in a Friday tweet.

“Iran has long stated its readiness to work with our neighbours to secure Persian Gulf. #HOPE-Hormuz Peace Endeavour-is on table right now,” he added.

The tweet came on the same day that Iran, Russia and China started four days of joint maritime exercise, dubbed as the “Marine Security Belt”, in an area of 17,000 square kilometres.

The drills are held in an area which consists of “various tactical exercises”, such as target practicing and rescuing ships from assault and incidents such as fires.

At a news conference on Wednesday, senior Spokesman for Iranian Armed Forces Brigadier General Abolfazl Shekarchi said the joint exercises will last until Monday.

Referring to the importance of the maneuver, he said the Indian Ocean and the Sea of Oman are key areas for the world trade, and many countries navigate through this region, so providing its security is of crucial significance.

He said the exchange of security experience between Tehran, Moscow and Beijing and counter-terrorism and piracy as well as countering terrorism and piracy are among the other goals of the drill.
