Iran Builds Exoskeleton Robot for Disabled People

Iran Builds Exoskeleton Robot for Disabled People

The Exopad Exoskeleton, developed by the Iranian firm, is a robot for people who are unable to use the lower limbs. This robot helps the user to walk, sit and get up and can be used as a wheelchair replacement.

Mostafa Havaeji, the CEO of the company, says this robot is offered in two versions, namely clinic and personal.

The clinic version comes with a user holder and a special robot control software. In the clinic version, the user utilizes the device under the supervision of a physician or expert.

In the personal version, the robot comes with a cane, rechargeable batteries and an internal control computer, and the user can use it freely indoors and outdoors.

The Exopad is a robot that is able to support the patient’s weight and transfer it to the ground. This robot is worn on the user’s clothes.

“The Exopad uses four powerful electric motors in the pelvic and knee joints that are able to move the patient’s legs with different movement patterns and different speeds. In this way, the user is able to walk with the help of Exopad without the need for much energy. People with paraplegia, as well as those with muscle weakness or impaired mobility in the lower torso, can use the exoskeleton robot,” added Havaeji.

To use the device, the user must have sufficient ability to control his body with the help of his hands. The clinic version of this product can be used in the laboratories of neuroscience, rehabilitation centres, occupational therapy and technical orthopedics. Research centres can also use this tool.

He also mentioned that the need for this product is not yet well known in the world, and Iran has not had any imports in this field. However, the production of this device in Iran has saved almost 50 million dollars a year, according to the CEO.

Exoskeleton technology is one of the most advanced robotic technologies in the world, which has so far been commercialized by only a few companies in the United States and Japan.

Luqaimat; Sweet Dumpling Made in Southern Iran

Luqaimat; Sweet Dumpling Made in Southern Iran

This dessert is similar to Bamieh or Persian doughnut and can be decorated with various types of chocolate, powdered sugar, etc. It is very popular is the holy month of Ramadan.

Ingredients:

Flour: 3 cups
Corn Starch: 1 tbsp
Sugar: 1 tbsp
Instant Dough Powder: 2 tbsp
Salt: ¼ tsp
Vanilla, Cardamom, Cinnamon: ¼ tsp
Yogurt: 2 Cups
Frying Oil: As much as needed

Directions:

First, pour the flour, cornstarch, sugar, yeast and vanilla powder (or your favorite spice) and a little salt into a large bowl. Stir with an electric mixer or a wooden spoon until well combined. Then add the yogurt and stir on medium speed to mix well with the rest of the ingredients and get a wet sticky dough.

The thickness of the mixture should be something between a thick cake dough and a loose and sticky dough. Be sure to use yogurt that is kept at room temperature. If you use cold yogurt, it will take a long time for the dough to get ready.

Cover the bowl with cellophane and let it rest in a warm place for an hour (or in the refrigerator overnight) until the dough doubles in size.

In a deep frying pan, pour enough oil (5 cm deep) and heat over low temperature until it gets completely hot (175 to 190 degrees Celsius). Prepare the syrup (the syrup can be any sweet juice you like) or any other coating you have in mind.

Pour the dough into the funnel. Bring the tip of the funnel close to the oil. With one hand, press the top of the funnel until about one and a half centimetres of the dough comes out from the tip of the funnel. Then grease your other hand and press on the tip of the funnel to pour the dough into the hot oil.

You can also use a small ice cream scoop. To do this, dip the scoop head in cold oil. Place a small bowl of oil near the pan and dip the scoop’s head in the oil every time. This makes it easy to pour the mixture.

Fry the dough balls, stirring constantly in the oil and moving them, and press them with a hand-held strainer so that they sink into the oil and become uniformly golden. Using the strainer, remove the fried balls from the oil, allowing the excess oil to drip into the pan. Immediately pour the hot bites into a bowl of cold sweet syrup (or date juice) and stir. Then put them in a large strainer to remove excess syrup.

Put the Luqaimats in a large serving dish and garnish with powdered pistachios. The best time to serve is one to three hours after cooking. You can also garnish them with chocolate and powdered sugar.

UN Security Council Weakened by US Support for Israel: Iran Envoy

UN Security Council Weakened by US Support for Israel: Iran Envoy

Majid Takht-e Ravanchi told a UN Security Council meeting on Palestine on Wednesday that while the occupation of Palestine was the main cause of the Middle East crisis, the Israeli regime is going to open a new chapter in the ongoing repression and crimes by implementing a plan to annex parts of the occupied Palestinian territory.

“Such an expansionist policy will further destabilise and complicate the dire situation in the Middle East, which will have far-reaching consequences for regional and international peace and security,” he added.

He went on to say that the annexation of parts of occupied Palestinian territory would be a gross violation of the fundamental principles of international law and the Charter of the United Nations.

Such a repressive plan is primarily the result of continued and full support of the US for the Israeli regime’s expansionist policies and illegal actions over the past seven decades, reiterated Takht-e Ravanchi.

“The support has continued, despite the blatant violation of the fundamental principles of international law and the disregard for all standards of international conduct and all the principles of humanity and morality. By abusing its position as a permanent member of the Security Council, the United States has fully and systematically protected the Israeli regime and, as a result, made the Council ineffective in countering the regime’s crimes.”

This has led Israel to commit more crimes and savagery with complete immunity, with live examples of continued construction and expansion of settlements, a permanent inhumane siege of the Gaza Strip, and repeated violations of Syrian and Lebanese sovereignty in stark contrast to the UN Charter and international law, said Takht-e Ravanchi.

“These acts have also led to the continued erosion of honesty and trust in the Security Council and the United Nations in general.”

At this moment of international relations, which has moved from a process of regression-based multilateralism to unparalleled power-based unilateralism, the United Nations and its member states have an explicit legal duty and a heavy moral responsibility to act immediately and with full force. The plan to annex parts of the occupied Palestinian territory must be rejected and the Israeli regime has to be held accountable for all the crimes it has committed over the past 72 years, stated Iran’s representative.

He added that this should not be limited to verbal rejection and condemnation. In order to fulfill their legal obligations under international law, all countries must prevent any recognition of these annexations.

In a statement on Wednesday, Seyyed Abbas Mousavi expressed regret over the incident and extended sympathy for the victims.

He also condemned the terrorist elements’ movement between the two countries and their attack on the border and military forces which led to the martyrdom of forces in the Islamic Republic of Iran and Turkey.

Mousavi said the clashes broke out near the Iranian-Turkish border between terrorist elements and Turkish military forces.

“According to Turkish media reports, on the evening of Tuesday, July 23, the armed clash took place between elements of terrorist groups and Turkish military forces near the Iranian border. Turkish sources say two border guards were injured and one of them succumbed to his wounds.”

Speaker, Envoy Urge Iran-China Joint Action against US

In a Wednesday meeting in Tehran, Qalibaf and Chang called for closer interaction between Tehran and Beijing in various fields, as in confrontation with Washington’s unilateral policies.

Decrying the US’ unilateralism in the contemporary world as a serious threat to international peace and security, the Iranian Parliament speaker stressed the need for regional and international cooperation to deal with the White House’s ill-advised measures.

“Today, the world countries, including Tehran and Beijing, are faced with the US’ arrogant nature and unilateralism and their adverse effects on the rights of nations at the national, regional and international levels,” the top Iranian lawmaker said.

Qalibaf also strongly condemned foreign interference in the internal affairs of China.

“We have repeatedly witnessed the Trump administration’s interference against the sovereignty and independence of countries, including Iran and China, and a series of international issues, such as the environment and destructive weapons,” the Iranian speaker noted.

He finally praised China for its outright opposition to a resolution that the International Atomic Energy Agency Board of Governors has recently adopted on Iran, calling for the expansion of relations between Iran and China in various fields.

In turn, the Chinse ambassador reaffirmed his country’s firm support for Iran’s sovereignty and independence, and expressed opposition to the US’ unilateral sanctions against Tehran.

The Western governments, particularly the US, have been putting pressures on Iran and China for long years on the pretext of human rights issues, but Tehran and Beijing have always stood by each other and have abhorred foreign interference and unilateralism, Chang noted.

The ambassador also expressed China’s unwavering support for the UN Security Council Resolution 2231 and the international agreements, saying China is opposed to the US’ bid for the extension of a UN arms embargo on Iran.

China has already rejected a planned push by the United States to extend a UN arms embargo on Iran and has dismissed Washington’s attempt to again become a participant of the 2015 Iran nuclear deal after its unilateral withdrawal from the agreement.
