Iran Congratulates Belarus on National Day

Iran, Belarus to Hold 15th Meeting of Joint Commission

In a Friday message to Belarusian Prime Minister Roman Golovchenko, Es’haq Jahangiri expressed hope that officials of both countries will work together closely, make efforts and tap into all existing potential to further boost cordial relations between the two countries on all fronts in line with the interests of both nations.

Independence Day of the Republic of Belarus, also known as Republic Day or Liberation Day is a public holiday, and is celebrated each year on July 3. Independence Day is a non-working day.

The decision to celebrate Independence Day on July 3, the day of the liberation of Belarus from the Nazis, was made during a controversial national referendum held in 1996 proposed by President Alexander Lukashenko.

Iran Censures EU3’s Non-Compliance with JCPOA in Letter to Borrell

Macron's 'Abuse of Speech Freedom' to Fuel Extremism, Zarif Warns

“Following the irresponsible and illegal measure by the three European states (Germany, the UK, and France) to initiate a draft resolution at the International Atomic Energy Agency Board of Governors and also the continuation of non-compliance with the international commitments under the JCPOA and the resolutions passed by the (JCPOA) Joint Commission, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran yesterday sent a letter to Mr. Borrell, the European Union Foreign Policy Chief and the JCPOA coordinator, and once again referred the cases of the European countries’ non-compliance according to Article 36 of the JCPOA to the Joint Commission for settlement,” Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran Seyyed Abbas Mousavi said on Friday.

Foreign Minister Zarif has emphasized in the letter that “any interference in the ongoing Safeguards cooperation between Iran and the IAEA would run counter to the JCPOA and could have negative effects on the principles of the existing Safeguards cooperation,” Mousavi added.

The spokesperson further reiterated that the Islamic Republic of Iran is prepared for the maintenance and full implementation of the JCPOA by all parties to the agreement, stressing the need for Iran to fully enjoy the economic results of the sanctions removal regime as defined by the JCPOA.

Iran will take the necessary and proportional measures in response to any excessive demands and irresponsible behaviours, and firmly calls on the three European states to prepare the ground to save and fully implement the JCPOA by honouring their commitments instead of following the United States’ policy of maximum pressure, the spokesperson concluded.

The Islamic Republic of Iran has already referred the cases of non-compliance of the US and the EU3 with the JCPOA according to Article 36 of the JCPOA to the Joint Commission twice in the past. Considering the failure to settle the disputes, Iran reduced commitments to the JCPOA in five steps.

Has Iran Found Whereabouts of Its Abducted Diplomats after 37 Years?

Has Iran Found Whereabouts of Its Abducted Diplomats after 37 Years?

On July 4, 1982, the year Israel invaded Lebanon, military attache Ahmad Motevasselian along with diplomats Seyyed Mohsen Mousavi, Taqi Rastegar Moqaddam and Kazem Akhavan were kidnapped by a group of gunmen at an inspection post in northern Lebanon.

Iranian media close to the IRGC reported on Friday that the four diplomats have been shot dead shortly after their disappearance at the Mediterranean coast, and buried in al-Barbareh.
However, the reports have yet to be confirmed by Iranian officials.

On Friday, the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement marking the 37th anniversary of the abduction, but did not mention anything about the latest reports.

In the statement, it repeated its earlier calls for the international community to help “release” the abductees from “Israeli jails“.

What follows is the full text of the statement:

Thirty-seven years have passed since the kidnapping of four Iranian diplomats, Seyyed Mohsen Mousavi, Ahmad Motevasselian, Kazem Akhavan and Taghi Rastegar, by mercenaries of the Zionist Regime of Israel at al-Barbareh checkpoint in northern Lebanon back in 1982.

As it has been announced over all these years, evidence suggests that the diplomats kidnapped in Lebanon were handed over to the forces of the occupying Zionist regime of Israel and then taken to the occupied territories, and that they are now being held in the prisons of this illegitimate regime.

Accordingly, and given that Lebanon was occupied by the Zionist regime at the time with the full support of the United States, the Islamic Republic of Iran holds the Zionist regime and its supporters politically and legally responsible for their kidnapping which was a terrorist act.

Although many years have passed since this criminal and terrorist act, the international community and organizations claiming to be advocates of human rights have, unfortunately, failed to take any serious action with regard to this crime, and the Zionist regime, which, backed by the US, keeps committing crimes and its acts are in breach of international regulations, continues to shirk responsibility for the issue,
The Islamic Republic of Iran appreciates the Lebanese government’s cooperation and actions to establish the fate of the four above-mentioned diplomats, including the sending of a letter to the then UN secretary general in 2008 in which the abduction of the Iranian diplomats has been highlighted. In the meantime, Iran once again wants Lebanese officials and the UN secretary general and the International Red Cross and other international institutions to seriously discharge their inherent, legal and human responsibility in pursuing this case, and make every effort to shed light on the status of the abducted diplomats and, accordingly, [Iran] stresses the necessity of the establishment of a fact-finding committee by the International Committee of the Red Cross.

The Foreign Ministry of the Islamic Republic of Iran commemorates the kidnapped diplomats and stresses that it will press ahead with efforts to establish the fate of those diplomats. Meanwhile, it sympathizes with their families who have suffered a lot over all these years and have always been waiting for them to return home, and hopes all those held captive or prisoner by the Zionist regime, especially the four dear diplomats, will be released soon.

Khosravi said more details on why and how the accident occurred will be made public at the appropriate time “due to security considerations.”

The spokesman finally emphasized that the damages to an industrial shed under construction in Natanz nuclear facility has been “limited”.

AEOI spokesman Behrouz Kamalvandi said the accident had no casualties and did not disrupt running operations at the facility.

He also noted that there is no cause for concern over possible contamination as the warehouse was not operational.

Iran Making Progress in Energy Sector Despite US Bans, Pandemic: President

Iran Making Progress in Energy Sector Despite US Bans, Pandemic: President

Addressing a ceremony, held on Thursday via videoconference to open 10 infrastructural and development projects in the water and electricity industries in the provinces of Fars and Kermanshah, President Rouhani said his administration alone has brought 37 water treatment facilities into operation over the past seven years.

He said the Islamic Republic takes pride in making advances in the energy industries while it is under the pressure of sanctions, is fighting against the coronavirus pandemic, and is dealing with the situation when “a tyrant and superpower like the US is mounting pressures, threats and sanctions” constantly.

The people of Iran may rest assured that the administration is fully ready to serve the nation and reduce the problems despite the pressures and sanctions, President Rouhani underlined.

Paying tribute to the Energy Ministry and the private sector for the great job of opening water and electricity projects across the country, the president said 99.9 percent of people in the cities and more than 82 percent of population in the villages enjoy healthy running water at present.

This is a glory for the Islamic Republic that the administration has been inaugurating a dam every two months in average, a sewage treatment plant every month, and a municipal water treatment plant every 50 days, the president added.

Before ordering the official opening of six solar power plants in the southern province of Fars, President Rouhani said solar power plants could be a very suitable option for the generation of electricity given the climatic conditions of Iran, considering that they generate clean power, without pollution, and without the need for water consumption.

“This is very important that we have moved forward from the kilowatt (scales) to the megawatts in solar power plants,” the president noted.

President Rouhani finally proposed the idea of promotion of rooftop solar systems across Iran, saying development of the solar technologies would enable everybody to turn the roof of their house into a solar power plant, to use the electricity they require, and to sell the excess to the government.

In April, Iran unveiled plans to construct its largest hydro power plant in central Yazd province with foreign investment.

Coming with a price tag of €300 million, the plant will be able to generate 300 megawatts of electricity, while the investor has the necessary permits to directly export that electricity to Iran’s neighboring countries.
