Iran Producing 90% of Its Defence Needs Domestically: Minister

Iran Producing 90% of Its Defence Needs Domestically: Minister

Amir Hatami said 90 percent of the country’s defence needs are definitely met inside the country, and the remaining 10% will be met in the near future once the arms bans are lifted in October.

He went on to say that Iran’s arms embargo is a hot debate these days, but the country has been able to stand against the sanctions.

“We are currently facing tough conditions. The enemies are trying to put the country in trouble through maximum pressure. They did their best to see people dissatisfied, but they failed because the country’s leaders … came to the conclusion that the threats could be turned into opportunity by paying attention to domestic production and self-sufficiency,” stressed Hatami.

The Iranian defence minister also said it is very important that despite the pressures, coronavirus pandemic and restrictions, Iran is taking actions that are unbelievable for many.

Last month, the United Nations Security Council rejected a US resolution to extend an arms embargo on Iran that is due to expire in October.

The United States has become isolated over Iran at the Security Council following President Donald Trump’s withdrawal from the multilateral Iran nuclear deal 2018.

UK Debt to Iran Has Nothing to Do with Release of Jailed Criminals: Defence Ministry

UK Debt to Iran Has Nothing to Do with Release of Jailed Criminals: Defence Ministry

What follows is the full text of the statement released by the Iranian government’s website:
Despite the Ministry of Defence’s follow-up, the British company IMS has refused to pay its debts after the non-implementation of military agreements.

Inevitably, the legitimacy of Iran’s request has been proven by the legal and judicial efforts made at the international courts as well as in the domestic courts of Britain.

However, the relevant authorities in the UK have refused to pay their debts under various false pretexts resorting to illegal and cruel sanctions. They have also damaged their reputation in the international arena, and especially in the eyes of the Iranian nation.

There is no doubt about the UK’s debt to Iran, and the ministry of defence is persistently and seriously seeking the realisation of the Iranian people’s rights, which was recently emphasised by the British Defence Secretary.

While the British Secretary of Defence acknowledges the 40-year-long British debt to Iran in order to obey international principles and regulations and ensure Iran’s national rights; London is expected to take practical and immediate steps to make up for the past so that the dissatisfaction and protest of the Iranian government and people towards Britain would not continue.

The issue of Britain’s debt to Iran is the result of the ruling of international tribunals based on an independent legal case that has nothing to do with the release of prisoners and other issues, because the verdicts were issued years before the case of imprisoned criminals.

While the relevant verdicts and documents have been provided to the British side and they have also accepted this debt, Iran expects the British government to be serious to settle these debts and claims promptly.

In this case, some incorrect numbers and figures are announced by the media which are merely speculative and far from reality. The amount of this debt is proportional to the time of payment of the final figures, taking into account the main debt and its relevant interest, because the basis for the final settlement are Iran’s claims and issued verdicts.

Public Relations Department of the Ministry of Defence announces that the ministry is seriously and harmoniously pursuing the right of the Islamic Republic of Iran relying on legal and managerial mechanisms and in cooperation with Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Central Bank.

Shiite Muslims to Observe Arbaeen Remotely over Pandemic: Iran

Shiite Muslims to Observe Arbaeen Remotely over Pandemic: Iran

Saeed Namaki said in a phone conversation with Iraqi Health Minister Hassan al-Tamimi that in the year of the Coronavirus pandemic, perhaps the best way to express devoutness to Imam Hussein (AS) is new methods not experienced before.

The Radio and Television of the Islamic Republic of Iran and the ulema as well as cultural figures in Iran and Iraq must come together to make a more detailed plan for the Arbaeen mourning ceremony this year, noted Namaki.

“It is necessary to form a joint committee between the Ministries of Health of the two countries to hold the glorious mourning ceremony of Arbaeen remotely. With the cooperation of the two countries, we are trying to seriously fight COVID-19 in order to contain the disease as soon as possible,” added Namaki.

Iran’s minister of health emphasized that the country’s relationship with the honourable people and the land of Iraq is historic and will never be broken.

“This year in Iran, with the support of the Leader of the Islamic Revolution, a very glorious but protocol-based Muharram ceremony was held. We were able to follow health protocols in such a way that the least harm from the corona virus was recorded.”

For his part, the Iraqi health minister said it is very nice to hear good news from Iran about the control of COVID-19 and the reduction of the number of deaths.

“We continuously follow the actions of the Islamic Republic of Iran regarding the control of this disease and we have learned lessons in this regard,” underlined Tamimi.

Muslims Must Protect Their Values in Current Critical Situation: Rouhani

Hassan Rouhani said on Thursday that the world, especially the Muslim world, is in a special and critical situation now.

“On the one hand, the Zionists are conspiring in the region, and unfortunately, they are deceiving some Muslim and Arab countries, which should be sensitive to the Palestinian issue,” Rouhani said.

On the other hand, he added, their flunkies are publishing insulting cartoons in certain magazines.

“All this means that we are in a critical situation in the world and we must defend Iran, the interests of Islam and our values,” noted Rouhani.

The situation in the region is very critical and all must be watchful, President Rouhani said in a videoconference address to an inauguration ceremony to launch mega projects in Free zones of Kish, Aras, Qeshm, Sarakhs, etc., said.

An 80-hectare greenhouse in West Azarbaijan’s Aras Free Zone, a home appliance factory in Payam Free Zone in Alborz Province, some factories in Shiraz Free Zone, and a tile production facility in Sarakhs were among the main projects launched by Rouhani via videoconference.

“We are launching 4,800 billion tomans (over 192 million dollars) worth of projects. Of course, if we convert Dollar and Euro to our own currency and calculate, our inaugurations are worth about 15,000 billion tomans (around 600 million dollars),” said the Iranian president.

He also noted the fact that Iran can launch projects worth 15,000 billion Tomans in a week, shows the country is flourishing and active.

“It also means that the US is defeated. It means that we can tread on the path of glory as well as the progress and development of the country,” underscored Rouhani.

The President said Iran, with its huge resources, diverse climate and easy conditions for investment, is an attractive place for investors, and all governors and managers of free and special zones are ready for domestic and foreign investment.

Iran, Armenia Discuss Regional Developments

Iran, Armenia Discuss Regional Developments

In the telephone conversation on Friday morning, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran Mohammad Javad Zarif and his Armenian counterpart Zohrab Mnatsakanyan talked about the major developments of the relations between Tehran and Yerevan in various fields.

The Iranian and Armenian foreign ministers also discussed the Caucasus issues and the latest developments in West Asia.

Zarif has already voiced Iran’s readiness to mediate between Armenia and the Republic of Azerbaijan following a flare-up of tensions between the two neighbours.

Earlier on Monday, Iran’s Embassy in the Republic of Azerbaijan dismissed media reports about the transfer of Russian weapons to Armenia through an Iranian border crossing.

That came after Baku voiced concern about reports of large arms shipments from Russia to Armenia during and after the fighting.

Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran Saeed Khatibzadeh made the remarks on Thursday night in reaction to the report prepared by a panel of experts designated by the UN Human Rights Council on the situation of human rights in Yemen.

“Although the report has mentioned Iran only once, it has ignored Iran’s pivotal role and its unfailing assistance for the political settlement of crisis in Yemen and has made a totally false claim by putting Iran on a list alongside those who arm the Saudi-led coalition aggressors,” he added.

The spokesman said such anti-Iran allegations are made while the United States and a number of Western governments, including Canada, are blatantly selling arms to the Saudi-led coalition, as the figures and statistics for those arms sales have been made public.

“At certain junctures, a number of those countries stopped or restricted the arms sales to Saudi Arabia under the pressure of human rights bodies, but the bitter fact is that the lucrative arms trade made them disregard their international and moral commitments, as they forgot that the weapons made by them are used for the massacre of Yemeni people and destruction of that country’s infrastructure, in such a way that the Saudi-led coalition and its arms supporters have now caused the greatest humanitarian catastrophe in Yemen,” Khatibzadeh said.

It is surprising that the report has mentioned Iran’s name amid the brazen arms support from certain Western states that amounts to billions of dollars in some cases, he added.

“This is while Iran has condemned the Saudi-led coalition’s aggression against Yemen since the very beginning and has always supported the political process in Yemen throughout these years, particularly at three junctures in (the efforts launched in) Kuwait, Stockholm, and the recent efforts of the United Nations special envoy, Mr. Griffiths.”

The spokesperson finally pointed to the severe blockade on Yemen imposed by Saudi Arabia, whose name and destructive role have been mentioned tens of times in the UN report, stressing that the inhumane blockade has prevented even the delivery of Iran’s humanitarian aid to Yemen.

Therefore, the allegation of Iran’s arms support for Yemen is basically false and there is no document to prove it, he concluded.

His comments came after a recent report on the “situation of human rights in Yemen, including violations and abuses since September 2014”, prepared by a group of UN human rights experts, claimed that Iran is among the third states providing support for parties to the conflict in Yemen including through arms transfers.

Tehran Refutes Microsoft’s Claim on Attempt to Target US Election

Tehran Refutes Microsoft’s Claim on Attempt to Target US Election

In a statement released on Friday, Foreign Ministry Spokesman Saeed Khatibzadeh rejected the Microsoft’s claim that hackers with ties to Russia, China and Iran have attempted to hack people and organizations involved in the 2020 US presidential election.

The United States, which has interfered in the elections of other countries, including Iran, for decades, has toppled the government of Dr. Mosaddegh -elected by the people of Iran- with a coup, and is leading an active counterintelligence campaign against the other countries, is in no position to make such ridiculous claim,” the Iranian diplomat noted.

“As we have mentioned repeatedly, for Tehran, it doesn’t matter who rules in the White House. All that matters is that Washington should honor the international law, regulations and norms, quit interfering in the other countries, and carry out its commitments,” the spokesman emphasized.

Microsoft said on Thursday that Russian, Chinese and Iranian hackers are attempting to snoop on people and groups involved with the US 2020 presidential election.

“The activity we are announcing today makes clear that foreign activity groups have stepped up their efforts targeting the 2020 election,” Microsoft said in a post on its website.

Iran Scolds Arab Quartet Committee’s ‘Groundless’ Allegations

Iran Condemns Canada’s Human Rights Resolution

In a statement released on Thursday night, Khatibzadeh expressed regret over the absurd and hackneyed contents of a statement by the self-proclaimed committee of the Arab community, and advised certain regional states to focus on the fight against the real source of threat to the region, namely the Zionist regime, instead of issuing hollow statements and serving the interests of the US and the Zionist regime.

Denouncing such boring statements as moving in the vicious circle of Iranophobia and legitimization of the illegitimate Zionist regime, the spokesman said, “The groundless allegations (against Iran) are made from the viewpoint of the countries which have made the strategic mistake of establishing relations with the Zionist regime and are now hurriedly seeking to draw attention away from the source of threat in a mistaken belief.”

Khatibzadeh said the countries that have issued the statement are involved in a series of threatening and tension-creating measures in the region, including allowing the regime that has occupied al-Quds (Jerusalem) to gain a foothold in the region, suppressing the Bahraini people’s peaceful demonstrations, providing full support for the terrorists and ISIS criminals in Iraq and Syria, and the continuation of a cruel war waged by the bankrupt Saudi-led coalition against the oppressed people of Yemen.

On the three Iranian islands of Abu Musa, the Greater Tunb, and the Lesser Tunb, the spokesperson said, “Iran’s activities are within the framework of exercising the country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, as interference from the others in this issue is obviously condemned.”

The spokesperson further noted that Iran’s military power is homegrown, emphasized that such defence capability has never posed a threat to the neighbouring countries, and advised certain regional countries not to turn into a stockpile of arms from the US and others and not to purchase imported security instead of relying on national power.

“The countries that have turned a blind eye to the plots hatched by the US and the Zionist regime and have betrayed the cause of liberation of holy al-Quds by announcing their relations with the Zionist regime have no right to question Iran’s honourable support for the resistance in Palestine and Lebanon,” he concluded.

In a statement on Thursday night, Saeid Khatibzadeh said Iran learned about the reports in media.

“Obviously, the [Iranian] Ministry of Foreign Affairs has neither received such a complaint, nor will it receive one,” he said.

“Regardless of whether or not the story is true, any individual familiar with the basics of international law knows that a Canadian court is not competent to act with regards to an incident which was outside its jurisdiction,” he added.

“The case is being simultaneously followed up on two fronts seriously and carefully: talks with the Ukrainian government and judicial proceedings inside Iran,” he noted.

“As for the Ukrainian government, this issue (the plane crash) has been discussed within the framework of international conventions and accords accepted by Iran, and a Ukrainian delegation will soon come to Iran to move forward with the talks,” the spokesman underlined.

“Inside Iran, too, the case is being reviewed by a competent court, and obviously, any real person or legal entity can refer to that court if they have any complaints,” he said.

“If the Canadian government really wants to help the bereaved families of [the victims of] the incident, it should stop such politically-tainted shows,” he said.
