Russia says Iran nuclear talks proceeding normally

Russia Foreign Ministry

“A break was announced in talks on restoring the JCPOA on March 11. The delegations returned to their respective capitals for consultations. Work continues on certain aspects of a future agreement on restoring the nuclear deal, its text is being corrected with regard to issues remaining between the United States and Iran. Some of the participants in the talks will also need to take political decisions on approving the final text of the agreement. The talks are proceeding normally, with no artificial delays to speak of,” the statement reads.

According to the foreign ministry, Russia believes that the path to effectively and fully resuming the implementation of the JCPOA lies through “restoring a balance between the nuclear and economic aspects of the deal, as well as between the relevant interests of all the parties.”

On Friday, EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell stated a pause in the Vienna negotiations, aimed at saving the Iran nuclear deal, is needed due to “external factors”.

A senior State Department official has stated the US won’t negotiate exemptions to Ukraine-related sanctions on Russia to save the 2015 Iranian nuclear deal. The source told the Wall Street Journal on Sunday Washington instead would try to strike an alternative agreement that excludes Moscow if the Kremlin doesn’t back off from last-minute demands.

Iran has announced all parties are determined to return to the talks in Vienna on the revival of the 2015 nuclear deal, but it is not clear when that happens. Tehran has stressed it keeps making efforts to reach a good, robust and lasting deal in the Vienna talks.

Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesman stated Monday Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian will pay a visit to Moscow on Tuesday to discuss regional developments and issues concerning the Vienna negotiations.

Saeed Khatibzadeh addressed the issue of excessive demands during the Vienna talks, saying the current “short pause” in the process is meant for the delegations to return to their capitals, which was based on a request by the coordinator of the JCPOA joint commission.

“We are not currently at the point of agreement, because certain key issues remain open, on which decisions should be made in Washington. As soon as those decisions are made, we will be at the point to return to Vienna and get a final agreement. Currently we are waiting to hear the United States’ response,” he added.

“We should not forget what has happened in Vienna means the verifiable return of the US to the JCPOA, and its obligations under the international agreement with commitment,” he stated.

Khatibzadeh noted that the subject of the negotiations has been the United States’ obligations.

He added that all pillars of the Iran’s Islamic establishment, in spite of all external and internal hype, are working hard to preserve and advance the country’s national interests.

The Vienna talks are said to have hit a snag and word is that this is the reason for the current pause in the negotiations.

Some media reports pin the blame on Russia, saying Moscow is demanding that following a deal, its ties with Iran be not affected by Ukraine-related sanctions on the Kremlin.

But Iranian officials mostly deny this, saying it’s the US that’s at fault because Washington is not ready to remove all sanctions on Tehran.

Nowruz traditions: Goldfish, guests at Haft Seen tables

Along with the Haft Seen – arrangement of seven traditional items, whose names begin with the Persian alphabet letter representing the sound “S” – putting a goldfish in a jar, which is an item of the Haft Seen table, much loved by the younger members of families, has cultural roots.

Since thousands of years ago, goldfish have been an ornament of small ponds in the houses and public pools on the streets, and are also guests at Haft Seen tables of many Iranians. So far, it was thought that goldfish were first farmed in East Asia in such countries as China and Japan.

However, historical artifacts, discovered along the vast boundaries of the Greater Iran and kept in major museums across the world, show that different species of goldfish were known to residents of the Iranian plateau for thousands of years, and contrary to what is often thought, the fish were most probably taken from Iran and Mesopotamia to China.

Iran Newspaper calls for response to any threats from Iraq

“Officials of Iraq’s Kurdistan Region do not follow the agenda of Baghdad; they rather get orders from the White House. Therefore, officials of Kurdistan Region do not care about the opinions and green lights of the government in Baghdad, as there [in Kurdistan Region], key players are Mossad, CIA and the Pentagon,” Iran Newspaper said in a report on Monday.

The report added that Iraq is one of the most important neighbors of Iran and any threat or infiltration from the Iraqi soil against the Islamic Republic “should be given the necessary response with care and seriousness”.

Still, [when seeing things] in a realistic light, one cannot say that a missile attack on Mossad’s training centers in Erbil can put a halt in the Zionists’ infiltration in Kurdistan Region against the national interests and security of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

The comment comes after Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guards Corps conducted missile strikes on a strategic Israeli center in the capital of Iraq’s Kurdistan region. The IRGC said its precision-strike missiles hit the center in response to the crimes of the Zionists, in a possible reference to the recent Israeli airstrikes that killed two Iranian military advisors near the Syrian capital Damascus.

Media reports said the target of the IRGC’s strikes were secret centers, run by Mossad and that the attack killed several Mossad operatives.

Nowruz Khani, a tradition marking arrival of spring in Guilan

Nowruz Khan – the singer in the tradition – takes a walking stick and, accompanied by other singers and a number of children and other locals, walks through a route among different neighborhoods, orchards and farmlands in the village.

Upon entry into each new place, the Nowruz Khan takes up new eulogies of the Imams from the infallible household of Prophet Mohammad, and also sings local verses, and congratulates the residents and the households on the arrival of the spring.

Advisor to Iran’s leader condemns Saudi executions as “carnage”

Ali Akbar Velayati

Velayati said in a statement the killings show the true colors of the Saudi regime officials more than ever before and will go down in infamy.

The secretary general of the International Association of Islamic Awakening noted that the perpetrators of this crime are disgraced in the eyes of the freedom-seeking people of the world despite their claims of defending human rights.

The statement criticized the international bodies’ silence toward the mass execution in Saudi Arabia and other crimes committed against people elsewhere in the region including in Palestine, Yemen and Afghanistan.

It said the silence of rights groups and organizations further emboldens the Saudi regime to think they can commit more atrocities with impunity.

Velayati’s statement urged global condemnation of the mass execution in Saudi Arabia, noting that such crimes are orchestrated by arrogant powers with the aim of weakening Muslim countries as this has been admitted on several occasions by leaders of the Western governments and the reactionary Western-backed regimes of the region that were responsible for the creation of terror groups like Daesh.

Saudi Arabia said Saturday it had executed a record 81 people in one day for what it called terrorism-related offences. The figure exceeds the total number of prisoners killed last year

Spokesman: Iran FM to visit Moscow to discuss Vienna process

Hossein Amir Abdolahian

Saeed Khatibzadeh made the comment during his weekly presser on Monday.

Khatibzadeh also said Amir Abdollahian will have consultations with his Russian counterpart on two or three specific topics of mutual interest, with a focus on the developments in Vienna.

“One of the issues that will be discussed during this visit will be Iran’s help in the Ukraine developments. Everyone should help to prevent this war from spilling over to other areas. Eurasia cannot bear larger and more expansive wars,” he said.

Khtibzadeh also addressed the issue of excessive demands during the Vienna talks, saying the current “short pause” in the process is meant for the delegations to return to their capitals, which was based on a request by the coordinator of the JCPOA joint commission.

“We are not currently at the point of agreement, because certain key issues remain open, on which decisions should be made in Washington. As soon as those decisions are made, we will be at the point to return to Vienna and get a final agreement. Currently we are waiting to hear the United States’ response,” he said.

We should not forget what has happened in Vienna means the verifiable return of the US to the JCPOA, and its obligations under the international agreement with commitment.

Khatibzadeh added that the subject of the negotiations has been the United States’ obligations.

He stressed that US President Joe Biden could have reversed what his predecessor Donald Trump did by an executive order, but, “after months of delay and inaction”, he picked the route of the complex negotiations of the JCPOA commission.

Even there, the spokesman said, Biden chose to stick to the “failed legacy” of Trump.

“Today [what happens in] Vienna is a reflection of the past unconstructive behavior of the US. We were not at the point of agreement. Let us get there. Once we get to the point of agreement, we will clearly and openly announce it to the [Iranian] nation. The remaining topics and issues between us and the US require political decision in Washington,” he said.

When these [decisions] are announced to us, we will return to Vienna.

Khatibzadeh added what is said about Russia’s demands has been openly announced by Moscow and Iran has also received its demands, which should be discussed in the joint commission of the JCPOA.

He said all parties to the nuclear deal have floated demands all along, which have been discussed in the joint commission.

“I have clearly said that national interests lay the route ahead of us. The approached of Russia and China have been so far constructive, and among the negotiating parties in Vienna over the past 11 months, have been the most closer to and the most supportive of Iran’s position. We are sure this will continue to the end,” he said.

Khatibzadeh also talked about the negotiations between Iran and Saudi Arabia.

“Our friends in Iraq had announced a date for the fifth round of talks between Iran and Saudi Arabia. This date is not final yet. As soon as it is finalized, and the two sides agree on a date, we will announce it,” he said.

The spokesman also offered explanations on the Sunday attack on the northern Iraqi city of Erbil and the Israeli moves there.

“It is, by no means, acceptable that one of our neighbors, which has deep ties and interactions with us, to be a hub of threats against Iran. The Zionist regime has, time and again, created insecurity [for Iran] from inside the Iraqi soil and some anti-Iranian revolution gatherings in the Kurdistan Region and terrorist groupings have been held. Iran does not tolerate a hub for sabotage and deployment of terrorist groups near its borders, whether by anti-Iran groupings or by the Zionist regime, in the Kurdistan Region,” he said.

Iraq’s Al-Nujabad movement: Credible info Mossad agents killed in Iranian attack

Iran Missile

Sheikh Akram Al-Kaabi said the Barzani family gives shelter to Iraq’s enemies so that they will weaken and partition it and secede the Kurdistan region from the country.

Kaabi said the mere fact that the Barzanis give the Israeli regime intelligence apparatus Mossad a safe haven justifies any party’s attack on the Zionists.

The leader of Al-Nujaba movement then welcomed an inquiry into the presence of Mossad in Kurdistan, saying the formation of such a committee must end up strengthening Baghdad’s rule over the region and prevent further defiance by the government in Erbil.

He said Al-Nujaba has credible information how many Mossad agents were killed in the Iranian missile attack.

Iran says it fired nearly a dozen Fateh missiles at the place where the Zionists had gathered, killing a number of them.

A media source from inside Iraq also said the projectiles slammed into two Mossad training centers.

Iran has said the attack by the precision missiles was in response to the Israel regime’s shenanigans in the region and warned of more destructive attacks in the future

US says Iran nuclear deal ‘close’ to finalized

Wendy Sherman

“I think it’s close, and we would like all of the parties – including Russia, which has indicated it’s got some concerns – to bring this to a close,” Sherman told Fox News on Sunday.

“We are very concerned about what Iran is doing, but imagine these Iranians with a nuclear weapon. We need to get that off the table so we can address their malign behavior in the Middle East, and we will do all of the above, but first we’ve got to get this deal. And it is not yet closed,” she added.

“If Iran has a nuclear weapon, its ability to project power into the Middle East and to deter us, our allies and partners, is enormous. So President Joe Biden believes very strongly, as does Secretary Antony Blinken, as do I, that we need to make sure that Iran never obtains a nuclear weapon, and then we also need to deal with their malign behavior in the region. But first we’ve got to make sure that they cannot obtain a nuclear weapon,” the diplomat stated.

Tehran denies seeking nuclear weapons, stressing it wants to master nuclear technology for peaceful purposes.

On Friday, EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell stated a pause in the Vienna negotiations, aimed at saving the Iran nuclear deal, is needed due to “external factors”.

Iran has announced all parties are determined to return to the talks in Vienna on the revival of the 2015 nuclear deal, but it is not clear when that happens. Tehran has stressed it keeps making efforts to reach a good, robust and lasting deal in the Vienna talks.

Former Iran FM: Israel should know Iran no place for hit-and-runs

“We respond to the Zionist regime’s declared policies with our declared policies and to its implemented and invasive policies with serious reciprocation that fills the regime with remorse,” Manouchehr Mottaki, who was foreign minister under former Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, told Fars News Agency on Sunday.

“The Americans learned about this approach [of Iran] both with what happened to that drone in the Persian Gulf and in the Ein al-Assad base; and therefore, they speak and potentially act in the area of military attacks with much caution, because they know the Islamic Republic stands on ceremony with no one when it comes to its security and that’s why it’s the safest country in the region,” Mottaki added.

Referring to the Iranian missile strikes on Israeli Mossad positions in Iraq’s Erbil early on Sunday, Mottaki said the Israeli regime had better keep repeating to itself the lesson that “Iran is no place for hit-and-runs.”

He said Iran had warned the Israelis previously too that any hostile action would be responded to, and noted they should have known that their move to kill two Iranian advisers with the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC), who were in Syria on an invitation by the Syrian government, would not go unanswered.

“If Iran’s response is not produced in Tel Aviv, it’s most likely because they (the Israelis) have been shown mercy,” he said.

In a statement later in the day, the IRGC said the missile raid had been in response to an Israeli airstrike on the Syrian capital of Damascus last Monday in which two IRGC officers were killed.

Mottaki said the Iranian people expected that Israel be held responsible for every attack on an Iranian element.
