NGO demands end to “show trial” of Iran national in Sweden

Sweden Embassy Iran

The Association of Support for Victims of Terrorism sent the letter to Mathias Lentz after a court in Sweden issued an indictment for former Iranian Judiciary employee Hamid Nouri over alleged rights violations in the 1980s.

The letter said the behavior of Swedish politicians goes against friendly ties between Tehran and Stockholm which date back 400 years.

The letter accused Sweden of supporting Western sanctions against Iran that have caused irreversible damage to the Iranian people and claimed many lives The Association of Support for Victims of Terrorism added that apart from Sweden’s support for the sanctions, the European country has now become a safe haven for terrorist groups like the MKO.

The letter said the Swedish Judiciary’s move to side with the MKO comes as the terror group has the blood of 17,000 innocent Iranians on their hands.

It also said this group has shown zero mercy toward its own members.

The Association then condemned the trend adopted by the Swedish Judiciary and demanded an immediate end to this show trial regarding Hamid Nouri.

It further called on Sweden to kick out all members of the MKO.

The NGO expressed hope that the Swedish embassy in Tehran will respond to its open letter in line with the principle of responsibility, which is one of the pillars of democracy.

Iranian interior minister: Ongoing census mandatory for all Afghans

Afghanistan refugees in Iran

Ahmad Vahidi said if Afghans refuse to cooperate with Iranian authorities, they will be considered as illegal and that the Iranian government will have no choice but to be tough on them.

Vahidi added that Iran is trying to get the census done in a short period of time.

He noted that following the recent refugee flow into the Islamic republic of Iran from Afghanistan, the Iranian government has to identify all Afghan refugees.

The interior minister said some of these people entered Iran with visas which may have expired and in that case, they have overstayed in the country.

Millions of Afghans have migrated to Iran since the 1980’s when a war began there following the Soviet invasion of the country.

Meanwhile, the Taliban takeover of Afghanistan in August 2021 forced huge numbers of them to flee to Iran.

Tehran has time and again called on the EU and the UN to provide the refugees with relief aid.

Amir Abdollahian calls for immediate release of Iranian national from Sweden prison

Iran’s foreign minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian

Amir Abdollahian, made the remark in a Wednesday evening phone conversation with his Swedish counterpart Ann Linde.

He described the detention and the court process against Hamid Nouri an Iranian national in Sweden, as illegal.

Amir Abdollahian expressed regret that the anti-Iran terrorist group, Mojahedine Khalq Organization (MKO), has taken over the reins of the fake propaganda regarding this court process in Sweden.

He said record of crimes of the terror group is obvious to the peoples of Iran and even Iraq – under the Baathist regime of former Iraqi dictator Saddam Hossein.

Nouri’s son says the Swedish court has focused on testimony given by dozens of anti-Iran individuals and MKO members who were each given plenty of time to testify against his father.

Nouri was arrested in 2019 upon arrival at Stockholm airport and was later put on trial over allegations of his involvement in the trial of the members of the Mojahedin Khalq terrorist group in the 1980s. Nouri has denied this.

The MKO is responsible for the killing of about 12-thousand Iranian people and officials since the Islamic Revolution of 1979. The group has carried out bombings and assassinations across Iran.

During the Iran-Iraq war in the 1980s, the MKO sided with former Iraqi dictator to carry out cross border attacks against Iran.

The top Iranian diplomat further expressed hope with Sweden’s show of will and reciprocal and joint efforts, the two countries witness expansion of their ties in different areas.

The foreign ministers of Iran and Sweden also agreed to continue consultations and exchange of views on the issues pertaining to the relations of the two countries.

Russian ambassador: No hurdle to Tehran-Moscow armaments cooperation

Russia’s ambassador to Iran Levan Dzhagaryan

Dzhagaryan told Russia’s Izvestia newspaper that the international arms embargo on Iran is removed, which means any cooperation between Tehran and Moscow in the field is legitimate.

“The military-technical cooperation with Iran dates back a long time. Once, we provided Iran with S-300 anti-missile defense systems. After the removal of the [UN] arms embargo [against Iran] in October 2020, there is no further obstacle to expansion of Iran-Russia cooperation in this very important and sensitive area.”

“As the Russian ambassador in Iran, I will make every effort to make sure this cooperation expands as far and as quickly as possible in line with the interests of our countries.”
Dzhagaryan also rejected the British media reports that Iran is supplying Russia with weapons, including missile launch pads.

“Let me begin with saying that British media are known as fake media plants. I do not want to comment on this subject. We have strongly reacted to this. This is not the first time [they are publishing such reports] and it will not be the last time, either,” he said.

The Russian envoy also touched on the Vienna talks for revival of the 2015 nuclear deal saying there are “important issues” between Iran and the US that should be resolved. “Solving these issues is not easy,” he said.

He also rejected allegations that Russia is impeding an agreement in Vienna.

“We do all our efforts [ to get a deal]… on the prospect [of an agreement], we should wait and see. No one can guarantee that the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action will be revived today,” he said.

Iran sends aid to families of terror attacks’ victims in Afghanistan

Iran sends aid to families of terror attacks’ victims in Afghanistan

The aid package is part of Tehran’s continued assistance to Afghanistan which is grappling with a crisis caused by decades of war and US-led occupation.

The new aid shipment includes 11 tons of medicines, food and clothes.

Iran’s Tasnim News Agency said the aid was sent to Afghanistan on an airplane, which landed at the Kabul Airport on Wednesday.

Iran’s Consul in the northern Afghan city of Mazr-e-Sharif, Seyyed Hassan Yahyavi, said the relief aid was delivered to local authorities in Balkh Province so that they would distribute it among the families of those martyred and injured in the recent terrorist attacks in Mazr-e-Sharif.

Iran also gave some aid to the families of the victims of a mosque bombing in Konduz Province.

Iran’s Consulate General in Mazr-e-Sharif also gave cash money to the families of those killed or wounded in the recent acts of terrorism.

The attacks hit Shia and Sunni mosques or public places in Afghanistan, killing many.
In addition to providing aid to the families of the victims, Iran has demanded the Taliban rulers of Afghanistan investigate the incidents and bring those behind the crimes to justice.

Report: Convicted Israeli spy Jalali to be executed by May 21

Ahmadreza Jalali

“It is heard from informed sources that the execution of Ahmadreza Jalali has been put on the agenda and the ruling will be implemented by May 21,” Iranian Students News Agency (ISNA) reported on Wednesday.

In an arduous judicial process, Jalali has been convicted of transferring intelligence on Iran’s nuclear program to Israeli spy agency, Mossad. ISNA added the intelligence he provided to the regime led to the assassination of two Iranian nuclear scientists.

According to ISNA what made the process of Jalali’s conviction longer was that the Swedish government granted a request by Israel to give him permanent Swedish residence.

Reports say, he had only stayed in Sweden for a short period of time, while spying for Israel, and was given the permanent residence permit only after he was put on trial and convicted in Iran, to pressure the country’s judicial system.

There are speculations that the recent detention of the Iranian national Hamid Nouri in Sweden and his trial was another stunt to pressure the Iranian government to get Jalali released.

Iran Covid: Daily death toll becomes single-digit

COVID in Iran

The Health Ministry also logged 252 new Covid infections, which is the lowest number of new cases of the Coronavirus in over two years.

The new cases included 66 hospitalizations. Many cities across Iran recorded zero deaths and infections.

The downward trend in Covid deaths and infections is attributed to a nationwide vaccination campaign as well people’s observance of the health protocols related to the Covid pandemic.

The number of vaccine shots administered so far is inching toward the 150 million mark. There are no red cities or towns in Iran now in terms of risk from Covid.

Red zones are areas where people face the highest threat from the Coronavirus.

A medical official in Iran said the other day given that the pandemic has abated in the country, time is now for Iranians to get their booster, or third, shots to make sure that they have reduced the likelihood of a resurgence of Covid.

He added, “People should definitely not miss this opportunity”.

Iranian authorities have urged people over 70 to get their fourth shots.

Ebrahim Raisi and Aleksandar Vučić

Raisi was speaking during a telephone conversation with his Serbian counterpart Aleksandar Vučić. The phone call was initiated by Vučić.

The Iranian president noted that Iran and Serbia can boost their ties to a higher level. Raisi said the expansion of relations between Iran and Serbia will pave the way for boosting the level of international interactions between them.

He told Vučić that he’s looking forward to receiving the Serbian president in Tehran and “I am confident that our talks and consultations during that trip will play a key role in developing our ties”.

The Serbia president for his part congratulated Raisi and the Iranian people on Eid al-Fitr, adding that there are many possibilities for cooperation between Iran and Serbia at the highest level.

Vučić said he is willing to visit Iran.

Croatian coach of Iran soccer team hails Iranians for ‘unique hospitality’

Dragan Skočić & Alireza Beiranvand

“Everyone talks about the politics, but I have never seen the hospitality that I have experienced in Iran,” Skočić said in an interview with World Soccer.

“Iran is something different from what people think,” said Skočić, who has lived in Iran for the past eight years.

After retiring from his professional career in 2004, Skočić went on to manage eight different clubs, including four of Iran’s Persian Gulf Pro League.

Since February 6, 2020, Dragan Skočić has led the Iranian national team, popularly known as Team Melli. Under the Croatian coach, Iran’s squad has managed to sit atop their group in 1st place throughout qualifications for the World Cup 2022.

Despite his good performance in the pre-World Cup games, Skočić has been under scrutiny in Iran, with some critics saying he would not be able to have a befitting performance in the world’s biggest soccer tournament, which will kick off in Qatar in November.
