No Covid deaths in Iran in past 24 hours

COVID in Iran

The daily caseload as per the ministry‘s figures was 251 including 65 hospitalizations.

Iran attributes its success in containing the Covid pandemic to a nationwide vaccination campaign that has seen over 150 million doses of vaccine administered to people across the country.

Iran also says the pandemic was brought under control to a large extent due to people’s observance of health protocols.

For all this, not all people have got their booster shots of the vaccine and authorities are urging them to do so.

Covid has been in retreat in Iran for several months now but authorities are warning people against easing the health protocols saying this could increase chances of a resurgence of the virus.

Russia urges US to show flexibility in JCPOA revival talks

Ulyanov Bagheri

Mikhail Ulyanov also, in a tweet, weighed in on his meeting with Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister Ali Bagheri Kani.

Ulyanov said his discussions with the senior Iranian diplomat were a “very professional” exchange of views on the current status of the JCPOA as well as the outlook of the Vienna negotiations.”

Talks on the lifting of sanctions on Iran were held days ago in the Qatari capital, Doha.

The meeting was attended by Bagheri Kani as well as Deputy Secretary General of the EU External Action Service Enrique Mora and US Special Envoy for Iran Robert Malley.

In a tweet, Iranian Foreign Minsiter Hossein Amir Abdollahian said Tehran is pushing on with negotiations to get the sanctions lifted.

“Dr. [Ali] Bagheri Kani is, seriously and in full coordination with me, continuing logical, documented and active talks in order to have the sanctions removed,” the foreign minister tweeted.

“We will continue our efforts with power and logic,” the top diplomat added.

“The United States’ pragmatism and providing lasting guarantees that Iran would fully reap the economic benefits of the JCPOA can make the talks fruitful,” Amir Abdollahian explained.

Meanwhile, the European Union’s coordinator for the Vienna talks Enrique Mora said after the two-day Doha talks that the negotiators would keep making efforts to put the JCPOA back on track.

Number of injuries in Iran’s quake increases

Earthquake Iran

Local officials say most of the wounded were treated on an outpatient basis.

According to officials, the health situation is under control in the quake zone.

Iran is a quake-prone country. Much of the country’s territory including the city of Tehran is criss-crossed by fault lines.

The country has been hit by several deadly tremors, with the last massive one happening in 2003 in the city of Bam. The incident killed tens of thousands and flattened most the the city.

Marandi: All Iran demands lie within framework of nuclear deal

Iran US Flags

Seyyed Mohammad Marandi told Jamaran news website that if the US administration decides to leave the nuclear deal again one year later following a potential agreement on its revival, foreign investors will suffer “irreparable damages.”

He said all the Iranian demands “lie within the framework of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), which clearly emphasizes that economic relations with Iran should be normalized, and Iran is negotiating in the same direction.”

Marandi said the Europeans agree that Iran’s demands are rational and that the US is the real problem, adding that an agreement would have been reached by now if it weren’t for the US and if the Europeans had any say in that.

The US has so far failed to provide enough guarantees that it will not leave the Iran deal once more in case the multilateral accord gets back on track, although “certain progress” has been made in that regard, Marandi said.

In the recent rounds of talks, he added, Iran’s negotiators got “good concessions” regarding an effective removal of the US sanctions and provision of guarantees to Tehran, something that led two members of the American negotiating team to quit.

“But there are still a series of outstanding issues, which could pose challenges to the implementation of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) if they remain unresolved,” he added.

Iran FM says Tehran opposes military action, understands Turkish concerns

Hossein Amirabdollahian & Faisal Miqdad

Hossein Amirabdollahian made the comment upon arrival in Damascus on Saturday.
Referring to Turkey’s military incursions into Syria while speaking to journalists, he said Tehran is opposed to war and military intervention in other countries.

Amirabdollahian added that Iran will make any effort to help resolve disputes between Damascus and Ankara.

The top Iranian diplomat also condemned the Israeli regime’s attack on Syria on Saturday and said zionists are bent on creating more difficulties for the Syrian people and further destabilizing the Arab country.

Elsewhere in his remarks, Amirabdollahian described Syrian President Bashar al Assad’s recent visit to Tehran as a turning point in bilateral ties between the two countries.

He said the visit opened a new chapter in bilateral cooperation including in diverse economic fields.

Health ministry: Coronavirus cases rising in Iran

COVID in Iran

Mohammad Mehdi Gooya, the head of the Iranian Health Ministry’s Infectious Diseases Management Center, said on Saturday although the new cases show mild symptoms, such as fever, cough, diarrhea, and vomiting, the number of patients is growing.

He warned that people who have not received the vaccine so far might show more severe symptoms and advised them to use facial masks in closed spaces.

The Iranian health ministry on Friday reported that one person died in the country and 463 new cases were logged over the past 24 hours.

The pandemic has left 141,385 deaths in the country with a population of over 85 million people.

Over 150 million doses of coronavirus vaccine have been administered across Iran.
More than 64 million Iranians have received the first dose and nearly 58 million people have so far received the second dose of the Covid-19 vaccine.

Nearly 28 million people have got the third shot as the booster jab.

Daily: US will neither remove anti-Iran sanctions, nor provide guarantees

Down with the US

The Tehran-based principlist daily said that is why there is an impasse in the talks on the revival of the 2015 nuclear deal.

“The Westerners only say that the removal of all the sanctions and provision of guarantees to Iran are demands beyond the scope of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA),” Kayhan wrote in an article.

This is while, it added, “the two issues are among the most vital articles of a potential agreement in the future, given the West’s record of commitment violations. If the West does not want to break its promises, why is it evading from providing guarantees?”

The talks have been pursued under different Iranian administrations with opposing views, and “this means the negotiations are not going to bring about results that would be favorable to both sides [under any circusmataces.] But why?” the paper asked.

The daily blamed the knot in the talks on the West’s unwillingness to achieve an agreement with Iran.

Late last month, Iran and the US held two days of indirect negotiations in the Qatari capital, Doha, with the European Union’s coordination in an effort to hammer out the differences that are hindering the revival of the JCPOA.

The talks produced no tangible results, but the sides have said work will continue in the future.

Iran FM: Syria visit for Ankara-Damascus peace

Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian

“My trip to Syria is partly meant to establish peace and security in the region between Syria and Turkey, as two countries with which the Islamic Republic of Iran has important relations,” Amirabdollahian said before embarking on the trip on Saturday morning.

The Iranian foreign minister’s visit comes days after he met with Turkish officials in Ankara as part of his regional tour.

Ties between Damascus and Ankara soured after Turkey launched several incursions into northern Syria to ‘target the Kurdish militants.’

Ankara says the militants affiliated with the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) have been fighting a separatist war against Turkey. However, Damascus complaints that the Turkish offensive violates Syria’s territorial integrity.

Amirabdollahian further said he would meet with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and the Minister of Foreign Affairs Faisal Mekdad and other high-ranking Syrian officials during the trip to push bilateral relations and review regional and global developments.

Iranians advised to receive 3rd dose of COVID vaccine as infections rise

COVID Vaccine Iran

Deputy Health Minister Saeed Karimi told Iranian state TV on Friday that 150 million doses of vaccine had so far been administered countrywide, with 64 million having received the first dose and 57 million others the second.

He said that the people had “unfortunately not welcomed a third dose,” urging the public to complete the vaccination stages.

“To us, the completion of the vaccination [process] means receiving all the three doses to make sure that the individuals’ immune systems are strong. Unfortunately, only about 27 to 28 million people have taken the third dose,” he warned.

“Vaccination is our weapons against the coronavirus,” the official emphasized.

Iran, he said, is currently in a “rather desirable status” in terms of COVID-19 infections and fatalities, thanks to the public’s efforts, the government’s suitable measures, and the widespread inoculation campaign across the country.

The daily death toll from COVID-17 has remained single-digit for some weeks in Iran, with no deaths having been reported on several days.

However, the Health Ministry has registered a mild rise in the number of infections over the past days. On Friday, it registered 453 new cases.
