Iran MP: Fuel smuggled out in great volumes due to subsidies

An Iranian lawmaker says fuel is being smuggled out of the country in great volumes due to the subsidized prices inside Iran.

Mojtaba Malhouzi says diesel is a case in point. He says the price of the product on the Persian Gulf FOB is 60 times greater than its price inside the country.

The lawmaker added that the extent of the fuel smuggled out of the country shows it cannot be the work of small smugglers. He blamed the situation on mafia groups.

He said all officials and state organizations are responsible to end the fuel trafficking.
