Iran, South Africa Discuss Closer Trade Cooperation

The head of Iran’s National Standards Organization has discussed closer bilateral trade with representatives of South Africa’s minister of trade and industry.

The meeting was held on the sidelines of the General Assembly of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) held in South Africa.

During the talks, the two sides exchanged views on ways of boosting cooperation and facilitating trade between the two countries.

They also reviewed a draft memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the Iranian National Standards Organization and the South African ministry of trade and industry.

The MoU is aimed at providing a mechanism in the fields of standardization, technical bylaws, metrology, confirmation of eligibility and the processes of conformity assessment in order to ease the exchange of goods and services through the identification, prevention and removal of technical barriers to trade.

The meeting was attended by directors for international trade, economic development and technical infrastructure as well as directors for Middle East and Central Asia from the South African delegation.
