Iran’s Health Ministry spokesman says 70 more patients have died of the novel coronavirus in the past 24 hours, increasing the overall fatalities to 8,012.
In his Wednesday press briefing, Kianoush Jahanpour confirmed 3,134 new cases of COVID-19 infection, raising the total number of cases to 160,696.
He said 125,206 patients have so far recovered from the disease, and been discharged from hospitals across the country.
2,557 patients are also in severe conditions of the disease, he added.
So far, Jahanpour noted, 997,009 COVID-19 tests have been taken in Iran.
The spokesman said the situation is still dangerous in Khuzestan province, and also alarming in Hormozgan, East and West Azarbaijan, Kurdistan, Kermanshah, Bushehr, Sistan-Baluchestan, Qazvin, and Khorasan Razavi.
Jahanpour said physical and smart social distancing is more necessary than ever, and all citizens must use mask these days.
