UNWTO Recognizes Tehran’s Abbasabad as Int’l Tourism Hub

The Abbasabad Tourism Complex in northern Tehran has been registered by the World Tourism Organisation as a major tourism hub.

“Abbasabad Complex was registered as an international tourism hub on September 11 during the World Tourism Organisation’s summit in St. Petersburg.”, said Chairman of Cultural Heritage Committee of Tehran City Council.

Hassan Khalilabadi stated that the WTO has so far enlisted 158 countries and 500 tourism organisations.

Noting that 14 Iranian entities have joined the World Tourism Organisation so far, he said under the current circumstances that Iran is faced with maximum and unjust pressure of sanctions, tourism can be a job-creating industry.

“City Council’s Cultural Heritage Committee wants to turn Tehran into a tourist destination so that we can make the most of its potentialities,” Khalilabadi added.
