Iranian political analyst: US not trustworthy for negotiations

Here is the full text of Mehdi Fazaeli’s op-ed:

“The Satan Himself, Unretouched!”

God the Almighty says in Verse 6 of Surah Fatir in the Holy Quran, “Verily Satan is an enemy to you; so treat him as an enemy”.

The Quran issues this warning because many a man fails to notice Satan’s enmity despite his undoubted hostility and even treats him as a friend!

If we look around carefully, we come to realize that this bitter reality is universal and that not only have some people failed to notice Satan’s enmity, but they have also taken him for a friend and taken refuge in his embrace!

Imam Khomeini, the deep-thinking scholar of our age, described the US as “The Grand Satan”. Thus, we can consider America as the epitome of this Quranic warning of our times. On this basis, the US is our main enemy. So we should treat him as an enemy. Nevertheless, some people have acted and are acting in contradiction to the Quran’s emphasis, which is regrettable.

The Grand Satan of our age, has successed in fooling or intimidating naive people in many parts of the world through adorning its ugly and disgusting face with attractive and beautiful slogans such as freedom, democracy, human rights, and the likes, and, of course, thanks to its economic, scientific and military power.

But at times, such as now, the deceptive mask has fallen off its ugly face and the world has found an opportunity to see the true face of the Satan unretouched, thus learning a lesson.

The US’s role in manufacturing the Coronavirus and contaminating the world with the wicked virus, which was revealed recently by Elon Musk, head of the US Department of Government Efficiency of the Trump administration; Trump’s empty encroachments on Canada, Panama and Greenland; Washington’s withdrawal from some international organizations and treaties such as the Paris Climate Pact and the World Health Organization; the US sanctions on the International Criminal Court (ICC) at The Hague due to its issuance of an arrest warning for Netanyahu; the unprecedented move to sell some weapons to the Zionist regime, the unprecedented humiliation of the Ukrainian president; threatening to arrest students and academics in the US; cutting budges; and firings are all interesting examples that would help know the true and evil face of the US.

The moves exude no signs of freedom, human rights and democracy. Some people could credulously think that Trump is an exceptional figure and different from the reality of the US. One should ask these people, “What system swept Trump to the White House twice? Didn’t Biden approve some of key orders issued by Trump after taking office? Is trump facing any stiff resistance within the US ruling system? These signs and dozens of others prove that Trump is the United States of America itself. Only without a velvet cover and unretouched. We, along the rest of the world, must make the best of this opportunity to know the Grand Satan, which is our enemy and the enemy of all humanity, and to stand up against its greed. Otherwise, we risk further emboldening this insatiable beast and making it more ferocious, and it will throw its claws to every corner of the world, thus inflicting irreparable costs.

And this could be the very scorching fire of which God the Almighty warns elsewhere in Verse 6 of Surah Fatir!

European states welcome Arab League’s plan for reconstruction of Gaza

Gaza War

“We, the Foreign Ministers of France, Germany, Italy and the United Kingdom welcome the Arab initiative of a Recovery and Reconstruction Plan for Gaza,” the foreign ministers of the four countries said in a joint statement.

“The plan shows a realistic path to the reconstruction of Gaza and promises – if implemented – swift and sustainable improvement of the catastrophic living conditions for the Palestinians living in Gaza,” it added.

“Recovery and reconstruction efforts must be based upon a solid political and security framework acceptable to both Israelis and Palestinians, which provides long term peace and security for both Israelis and Palestinians alike,” it noted.

The statement also expressed explicit support for the central role of the Palestinian authority and the implementation of its “reform agenda.”

On Tuesday, an emergency Arab summit in Cairo adopted Egypt’s $53 billion reconstruction plan to rebuild the Gaza Strip without displacing Palestinians from their land.

The Arab proposal came after US President Donald Trump’s plan to “take over” Gaza and resettle Palestinians to develop it into what he called the “Riviera of the Middle East.”

The plan was rejected by the Arab world and many other nations, who say it amounts to ethnic cleansing.

Israel repeating Gaza scenario in West Bank: UN

Israel’s current acts of aggression against the West Bank mirror those employed during the 15-month-plus war on Gaza that began in October 2023, the world body’s Special Rapporteur on Human Rights in the Occupied Palestinian Territory, Francesca Albanese told Al Jazeera in remarks that the Qatari television network published on Saturday.

The atrocities, she said, was aimed at controlling “the remaining Palestinian territories.”

The Israeli regime occupied the West Bank and Gaza during a heavily-Western-backed war in 1967.

It withdrew from Gaza in 2005 after the Palestinian resistance movement Hamas rose to power in the coastal sliver following a landslide electoral victory.

Tel Aviv, however, then began taking the territory under interminable deadly attacks.

The assault has witnessed the regime subjecting Gaza to several wholesale wars, the last of which being the genocide that has claimed the lives of at least 48,500 Palestinians, mostly women and children.

Hundreds of the fatalities have been caused since the implementation of a ceasefire agreement between the regime and Hamas in January during the former’s daily violations of the deal.

Tel Aviv also significantly ramped up its onslaught across the West Bank following its launch of the war on Gaza. The attacks comes despite the absence of any direct attacks on the rest of the occupied Palestinian territories from the West Bank.

Albanese condemned the regime’s actions in the West Bank as “shameful and illegal.”

She emphasized that the events of October 7, 2023 did not justify the regime’s ongoing violations throughout either Gaza or the West Bank.

The UN official was referring to a historic operation that Hamas and its fellow Gaza-based resistance groups launched against the occupied territories, after which Tel Aviv launched the war. The operation saw resistance fighters infiltrate into strategic Israeli bases, and taking 240 Zionists’ captive.

Albanese also denounced the regime’s repeated threats of resuming the war against Gaza.

The UN official reiterated that the regime had no legal claim to the either the West Bank, including the eastern part of the holy city of al-Quds that falls within the territory, or Gaza.

She, therefore, urged withdrawal of Israeli forces from either territory and dismantling of the hundreds-strong sprawling illegal settlements that Tel Aviv has been setting up across the West Bank since 1967.

At the very least, she said, Tel Aviv had to uphold its legal obligations as an occupying regime.

Albanese also criticized Israeli restrictions during the holy fasting month of Ramadan, which prevent Palestinians under 55 years of age from praying at the al-Aqsa Mosque, Muslims’ third holiest site that is situated in al-Quds.

Iran wins runner-up position in Asian Women’s Kabaddi Championship

The two powerful teams of Iran and India faced each other in the match, and at the end, the Indian team defeated Iran 32-25, securing the championship. Nepal and Bangladesh jointly ranked third.

On this occasion, the Iranian Ministry of Sports and Youth issued a statement, congratulating the Iranian team on their achievement.

The statement said this success is the result of the efforts, determination, and zeal of Iranian female athletes who, by shining in the competitions, once again demonstrated the capabilities of Iranian women in the exciting field.

The sixth edition of the Asian Women’s Kabaddi Championship was hosted by Tehran Province and it happened in Pardis City from March 6 to 8.

Former Iran top diplomt, nuclear chief: War between Washington, Tehran to have unknown consequences

Aliakbar Salehi told told Entekhab news outlet such a war will have unknown dangerous consequences.

The former Iranian foreign minister however said chances of a conflict between Iran and the US are very slim.

Salehi also said the Persian Gulf Arab countries do not want such a military confrontation, although they would like Iran to be contained in their political assessments.

In other comments Salehi added that should a war begin, China will put an end to the Taiwan issue quickly.

His comments follows remarks by the Qatari foreign minister who has warned against attacking the Bushehr nuclear power plant in southern Iran.

The US and the Zionist regime have openly threatened multiple times to attack Iran over its nuclear program. Iran has warned against such an aggression, saying it will be met with a devastating response.

Ayatollah Khamenei: Iran will not give in to demands of bullies

Ayatollah Khamenei was speaking during a meeting with former and current Iranian government officials including top military brass on the occasion of the holy month of Ramadan.

The leader reiterated that Iran will certainly not accept the demands of those bullying governments, in a  reference to the recent comments of US
President Donald Trump in which he called for negotiations with Iran over the Tehran’s nuclear program.

Meantime, Ayatollah Khamenei criticized the European troika, the UK, France and Germany, for their claim that Iran has failed to abide by its commitments under the 2015 nuclear deal, known as JCPOA.
“Have you lived up (to your commitments under the JCPOA)?”, the leader asked, addressing the three European countries. Ayatollah Khamenei said the European sides actually failed in abiding by their obligations from day one.

He added that the trio even promised to make compensation one way or another after the US withdrawal from the agreement, but they did not make good on their pledge.

“Ungratefulness has its limits”, the leader said.

In other comments, Ayatollah Khamenei rejected Western claims that free flow of information exists in the West.

He said the West double standards have disgraced the Western civilization and disproved such claims.

The leader cited as an example, Western social media platforms on which people are banned from denying the crimes of Nazi Germany against Jews, objecting to crimes in Palestine and Lebanon, and even mentioning the names of martyred commander of Iran’s Quds Force General Qassem Soleimani, late leader of Lebanon’s Hezbollah resistance movement Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah and late leader of Hamas Esmail Haniyeh.

The leader said the Western civilization has shown its true colors.

Iran dismisses any demographic change in Palestine

Iranian Foreign Minister Seyyed Abbas Araghchi

The Iranian foreign minister delivered a speech to an extraordinary ministerial meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) about Gaza, held in Saudi Arabia’s Jeddah on Friday.

What follows is the text of his speech:

Your Excellency, Mr. Brahim Taha, the Secretary General

Your Excellency Mr. Lejeune Mbella, Chair of the OIC Ministerial Council

Distinguished Ministers,

At the outset, I would like to thank the Secretary-General for organizing this meeting at this critical moment. I would also like to express my gratitude to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for hosting this meeting in light of the unspeakable pain and suffering endured by the people of Gaza as the result of 16 months long genocidal campaign in Gaza.

The situation in Palestine, particularly in the Gaza Strip, is a matter of profound concern. This crisis is not only a humanitarian disaster but also a grave injustice to a nation that has been systematically deprived of its fundamental rights and human dignity for over seven decades, subjected to relentless aggression and occupation.

The Zionist regime, emboldened by unwavering and unconditional support of the United States and its Western allies, has committed unimaginable atrocities that mark all major international crimes including war crimes, crimes against humanity, ethnic cleansing, racial discrimination, and genocide. Unfortunately, the regime continues to enjoy impunity, evading the consequences of its blatant violations of international law.

Dear Colleagues,

We strongly reject and condemn the recent plan by the US Administration to forcibly relocate the population of Gaza and assert control over their land as a clear violation of international law, including the Fourth Geneva Convention and stress that any measure aimed at altering the demographic and cultural fabric of the occupied Palestine is inadmissible and contrary to the principles of justice and international law. Iran also expresses its deep concern over the political and humanitarian implications of such actions for the region and the world. It simply adds insult to the injuries of the present generation, while guarantees an ever-lasting grief for generations to come.

Developments in Gaza clearly manifested US complicity in the crimes committed by the Zionist regime. Regrettably, the United States has once again chosen to turn a blind eye to the root causes of the crisis, prioritizing its strategic alliance with the Israeli regime over the fundamental principles of justice and human rights. By providing military, financial, and diplomatic support to Israel, the US is complicit in all the ongoing war crimes committed against the Palestinian people.

Palestinians have an inherent and inalienable right to defend themselves and resist occupation and aggression. This right is enshrined in international law and does not require the approval of any external power. However, most Western states not only deny such legitimate right of the Palestinian resistance groups to self-defense but actively justify Israel’s crimes under the false pretext of “self-defense.” The international community must reject these misleading narratives and recognize that Palestinian resistance groups—established to fight occupation, apartheid and aggression- are legitimate actors under international law. The hypocrisy of the so-called champions of human rights, who are also enabling war criminals, is both alarming and inconceivable.

Moreover, given the vicious statements made by some political officials of the Zionist regime about the extermination of the Palestinians or their proposal to target Gaza with a nuclear bomb, the international community must compel the Israeli regime -as an entity with a vast arsenal of weapons of mass destruction, including nuclear weapons- to adhere to international disarmament treaties and comply with non-proliferation norms.

Mr. Chairman,

Building on the previous OIC actions on Gaza, this meeting must produce a bold and comprehensive roadmap that matches the gravity of the crisis. This is high time to ensure that our words are backed by concrete actions. We believe that to compel this regime to stop its crimes against the innocent people of Gaza and other nations in our region, and as a practical and immediate measure, collective sanctions against Israel should be imposed. Besides, all corporations and entities that directly or indirectly support and sustain the Israeli occupation and crimes must also be targeted by sanctions, and their operations must be halted, at least within the OIC member states. The Secretariat should be mandated to support developing a list of such entities that are active in our member countries.

Meanwhile, to make it clear that Muslim countries fully reject any attempt to further displace Palestinians from their ancestral land, we need to mandate the OIC office in New York to table a draft resolution for consideration and adoption by the UNGA to denounce and reject any such plan that call for further displacement of Palestinians.

Dear sisters and brothers,

Urgent delivery of humanitarian aid to alleviate Palestinian suffering, should be accompanied with creation of an OIC-led Gaza reconstruction international campaign to finance the rebuilding of homes, hospitals, and essential infrastructure. Implementation of an economic recovery program for Palestine, especially Gaza, would further support the dignified and unconditional return of all Palestinian refugees to their homes.

Given the Israeli regime’s persistent defiance of the UN Charter, its designation of the UN Secretary-General as persona non grata, the complete obstruction of UNRWA’s operations, and the unprecedented tragic loss of hundreds of UN staff in Palestine, it is imperative to continue our endeavors for Israeli regime’s expulsion from the United Nations. The only apartheid regime of the 21st century that systematically undermines international law, disregards UN resolutions, and commits crimes such as war crimes, genocide, and ethnic cleansing should not be afforded legitimacy within this body. We should also lend our support to all the initiatives inside and outside the UN system targeting Israeli regime’s criminal acts.

Last but not least, establishing an International Gaza Victims’ Remembrance Day would serve as a powerful reminder of the suffering endured by the people of Gaza, ensuring that their struggles against Israeli crimes will not be faded away. Such a day would honor the victims and keep the ongoing plight of the Gazans alive in the global memory and human conscience.

Mr. Chairman,

The uncompromising support of the government and people of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the cause of Palestine is indisputable and our steadfast commitment will not wither away under any circumstances. While the Islamic Republic of Iran supports the present resolution, and without prejudice to the foregoing, it would like to put on record the following reservations on the content of the outcome of this meeting, details of which will be communicated later with the Secretariat:

1. With due respect to the views of some brotherly countries on the two-state solution, the I.R. Iran maintains its view that this solution will not lead to the realization of the right of the Palestinian people. In our view, “one democratic state” representing all the original inhabitants of Palestine is the only viable solution. As such we dissociate our self from any reference to the concept in the resolution.

2. Besides, joining the agreement on the outcome adopted by this session shall not explicitly or implicitly be construed in one way or another as recognition of the Israeli Zionist regime.

3. Similar to all peace loving people, the people of Palestine are entitled to all necessary means in exercising their inalienable right to self-determination and making themselves liberated from the foreign colonial occupation. Having in mind the brutality of the Israeli occupying forces, nothing should circumvent such a right. This is also our common duty according to international law to render support to such aspiration. We extend our support to any Palestinian national unity agreement that is reached and agreed by the people of Palestine.

In conclusion, we earnestly hope that this auspicious meeting will inspire the international community to take meaningful action to advance justice and peace for the people of Palestine. May this gathering be a renewed commitment to their honorable cause.

Thank you.

Source to al-Mayadeen: Iran will not hold talks with US under Trump’s conditions

Iran US Flags

Al-Mayadeen news channel quoted a “high-ranking Iranian diplomatic source” as saying that Iran has informed Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov that Tehran will not hold talks with Washington under US President Donald Trump’s conditions.

The source added that Iran however welcomed the Russian initiative to advance negotiations over the issue.

Earlier, Russia said it’s ready to mediate talks between Iran and the US. But this comes as US officials including Trump himself have intensified pressures against Iran.

Their pressures, including the reinstatement of the so-called ‘maximum pressure policy,’ appear to be aimed at forcing Iran to come to the negotiating table.

Tehran has repeatedly said it’s open to talks with all sides, but will not negotiate under pressure and at a time when the US openly threatens the Islamic Republic.

3 Palestinians killed in Israeli attack on southern Gaza despite ceasefire

Gaza War

Medical sources told Anadolu that the Israeli army killed three Palestinians in an attack on the Abu Halaweh area, east of Rafah city in southern Gaza. Eyewitnesses confirmed that the attack was carried out by an Israeli drone.

They also reported that Israeli military vehicles stationed along the Philadelphi Corridor on the Gaza-Egypt border opened fire toward Palestinian homes in southern and central Rafah.

Additionally, an Israeli tank fired a sound bomb at homes in the Al-Salam neighborhood in eastern Rafah.

Further reports from eyewitnesses indicated that Israeli army vehicles positioned near the eastern border of Gaza City opened intensive fire.

Separately, seven Palestinians were injured when an Israeli drone targeted a bulldozer clearing debris from a destroyed home in the town of Beit Hanoun, northern Gaza.

A medical source told Anadolu that the wounded were transferred to Kamal Adwan Hospital in northern Gaza.

This came amid ongoing Israeli escalation and incursions into various parts of the Gaza Strip, resulting in further civilian casualties.

A ceasefire and prisoner exchange agreement has been in place in Gaza since Jan. 19, halting Israel’s brutal war, which has killed nearly 48,500 Palestinians, most of them women and children, and left the enclave in ruins.

Last November, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza.

Israel also faces a genocide case at the International Court of Justice for its military campaign.

US maximum pressure against Tehran tantamount to crime against humanity: Iranian spokesperson

In a statement on Friday, Baqaei described the hostile statements of the US treasury secretary regarding the continuation of the maximum pressure policy against the Iranian people as a clear sign of the continued enmity of the US policymakers towards the Iranian nation.

He said the remarks are a clear admission, on the part of the US officials, to breaking the law and committing crime against humanity.

Referring to the failure of the policy of pressure and intimidation against the Iranian people in different periods, the spokesman said it is a mistake to test the one who has been tested.

The US policymakers are not going to reach a different conclusion than what they have reached so far by repeating incorrect policies, he noted.

Baqaei stressed that Iran’s approach to international diplomacy is based on logic and mutual respect to ensure the legitimate and legal interests of the Iranian people, adding that any behavior or speech that is not consistent with this approach is rejected.

He noted that the policy of pressure and intimidation against the Iranian nation is a clear violation of the principles and purposes of the UN Charter and international law and subject to international responsibility of the US government.

Baqaei concluded that the Iranian nation will continue to strengthen its capacities in various fields and will respond to any illegal and inhumane pressure with resistance and perseverance.
