World Outraged by Israel’s Killing of Palestinian Baby Girl

The girl, Laila al-Ghandour, lost her life Monday after the Israeli military fired tear gas into tents involving families, medical teams and injured protestors.

The photo of the innocent child has gone viral in the social media, shocking netizens across the world.

Over 60 Palestinians, including eight children, lost their lives during major protesting rallies on Monday, as the new US embassy was being inaugurated.

Dozens of tents have been erected along the border, each one labelled with the name of a town that was depopulated in the creation of the state of Israel, according to a report by Gaza Health Ministry quoted by Mizan News Agency.

The Israeli military used drones to fire tear gas, and in some cases firebombs, into the tents.

The relocation of the US embassy, which has so far drawn international condemnations, was carried out five months after Trump recognized the holy city as the “capital” of Israel, promising to move the US diplomatic mission from Tel Aviv to the city.

In the hours leading up to the inauguration, Israeli troops engaged in clashes with Palestinian protesters, some 2,500 of them sustained injuries, either through direct shooting or firing tear gas canisters.

Iranian VP to Attend ESCAP Meeting in Thailand

Nobakht, who is also head of Iran’s Plan and Budget Organization, is going to deliver a speech to the ESCAP meeting at the United Nations Conference Centre in Bangkok.

The theme topic of the ongoing meeting is “inequality in the era of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.”

On the sidelines of the gathering, the Iranian official would also hold talks with Prime Minister of Thailand Prayut Chan-o-cha and Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations and Head of UNESCAP Shamshad Akhtar.

Established in 1947 with its headquarters in Bangkok, ESCAP is the regional development arm of the UN for the Asia-Pacific region.

Consisting 53 member states and 9 associate members, the commission includes 4.1 billion people, or two thirds of the world’s population. ESCAP is the most comprehensive of the five UN regional commissions, and the largest UN body serving the Asia-Pacific region with over 600 staff.

“US Trying to Sway Decisions of Other Parties to Iran Deal”

In a Wednesday statement, Qassemi strongly condemned the US Treasury’s announcement of new bans on the Islamic Republic of Iran, saying that the move is aimed at making up for Washington’s failure after it withdrew from the Iran nuclear deal.

“We regard this inappropriate policy and move as part of the US government’s ongoing hostile policies and unwise behaviour against the Iranian nation, which has continued over the past decades in different ways. These spiteful policies will have no benefits for the US, and will only make the Iranian government and nation more determined, patient and resistant than ever to counter the United States’ anti-Iran moves,” the spokesman noted.

“The announcement of new sanctions against Iran, especially putting the name of the governor of the Central Bank of the Islamic Republic of Iran on the list of sanctions, at a time when Iran and Europe have kicked off talks and consultations on the JCPOA without the presence of the US, shows well that the United States has not yet been able to achieve its predetermined anti-Iran objectives by unilaterally pulling out of the JCPOA.”

“Now in the wake of its failure and the destructive fallout from its blatantly wrong predictions and mistakes after unilaterally leaving the JCPOA, the US government is seeking to sway the willpower and decisions of the remaining signatories to the JCPOA and other countries in the world,” said the spokesman.

Qassemi touched upon the US government’s making abuses and excessive demands as it uses different policies and levers to exert force, put forward unwarranted expectations, and make threats against other countries to advance its destructive policies.

“Global reactions to the United States’ withdrawal from the JCPOA showed well that the US president’s illogical and unwise decision which runs counter to all international regulations has affected the credibility and increased the isolation of the US government and caused irreparable damage to the American people. The move also further proved that the great Iranian nation is right to regard the United States and its administrations as unreliable,” he said.

Tehran to Host 7th Int’l Innovation, Technology Exhibition

The event is expected to be attended by Iranian and foreign startups and technology companies.

In a press conference, Secretary of the INOTEX 2018, Akbar Qanbarpour, said the first round of INOTEX was held in Tehran in 2012 with more than 50 companies from such fields as ICT, oil and gas, energy, biotechnology and infrastructures in attendance, a report by Mehr News Agency said.

He went on to say that over the past six rounds of the exhibition, more than 750 technology companies from 25 countries attended it and over 130 memorandums of understanding were signed in various areas.

Qanbarpour said companies from Russia, Canada, India, Germany, China, South Korea, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Pakistan, Sweden, Belarus, the UK and many others took part in the past six rounds of the exhibition.

Elaborating on the upcoming exhibition, he added 350 booths have been erected for startups and companies from various fields.

“150 startups, 50 inventors, 20 investment funds, 20 accelerators, 40 business funds and 120 technology companies will take part in the INOTEX 2018,” he noted.

Qanbarpour said the exhibition is set to be held in four sections and added the three-day event is to host a large number of delegations from different countries.

He predicted that about six thousand people will visit the three-day exhibition.

The Secretary of the INOTEX 2018 also said some states like Georgia, Kazakhstan, Oman, Iraq, Turkey, Pakistan, Poland and Indonesia whose technological level is lower than that of Iran will attend the exhibition with the aim of making some international interactions.

He said 350 foreign technology companies from 20 countries will attend INOTEX 2018.

Supported by Iran’s Vice-Presidency for Science and Technology, the event will be hosted by the Pardis Technology Park (PTP) and Iran National Technomart.

He said that Export Development Bank of Iran provides facilities for foreign customers and Iranian companies which want to trade with foreigner parties.

Addressing reporters in the same presser, Head of PTP Innovation Acceleration Centre Ali Hezaveh talked about the startup ecosystem, which will be promoted during INOTEX 2018.

“The exhibition will host 150 startups, which have the main role at the exhibition, incubators, accelerators and investors,” he said.

In coming edition of the exhibition, a special part will be dedicated to the introduction of Iranian startups to visitors. At this section, startups and their functions in everyday life are introduced to the visitors.

Smart environment, energy management in smart cities, smart Internet of Things (IoT) based devices, smart infrastructure and smart healthcare are some of the sections of INOTEX 2018.

Iran Parliament’s Conservative Faction Denies Role in Burning US Flag

“The last week’s move of members of the faction to burn the US flag and JCPOA was not coordinated and the faction was not aware of it,” said Hossein Naqavi Hosseini in an interview with ILNA on Wednesday.

Last Wednesday, over 20 lawmakers, most of whom members of the conservative faction, burned a copy of the 2015 nuclear deal and the US flag on the Parliament’s floor in a symbolic response to the US withdrawal from the multi-party accord.

US President Donald Trump pulled the US out of the pact on May 8, after months of threats to dismantle the accord that removed international sanctions on Iran in exchange for confidence-building curbs on Iran’s nuclear program.

The move, which raised eyebrows among Iranians, went viral on social media and was widely covered by international media outlets.

Shortly afterwards, some lawmakers made comments criticizing the move.

Alireza Rahimi, a member of the Parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Commission, also told IRNA on Sunday the burning of national flags and international documents in parliament would prove detrimental to the government’s policy of engaging in constructive interaction with the world.

The reformist faction issued a statement decrying the move, and its spokesman Omid Parsaei said Sunday they have set up a committee to decide how to react to the move.

Iran Urges EU to Stand against US’ Illegal, Illogical Move

“Iran can stay in the JCPOA (the nuclear deal, officially known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action) only if it fully benefits from it,” Rouhani said while receiving the credentials of Estonia’s accredited Ambassador to Tehran Marin Mõttus on Tuesday.

He warned that in an “illogical and illegal” move, the US seeks to apply its domestic laws to other parts of the world.

US President Donald Trump announced on May 8 that Washington was walking away from the JCPOA, which was reached between Iran and the five permanent members of the UN Security Council — the US, Britain, France, Russia and China — plus Germany.

Trump also said he would reinstate US nuclear sanctions on Iran and impose “the highest level” of economic bans on the Islamic Republic.

Iran has said it would remain in the JCPOA for now, pending negotiations with the other signatories in the coming weeks before making a final decision on its future role in the agreement. Tehran wants the Europeans to give it clear-cut guarantees about fulfilling their obligations if it remains in the accord.

In a letter written to the United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres on May 10, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said the US president’s “unilateral and unlawful” decision to withdraw from the JCPOA and to re-impose nuclear-related sanctions shows “a complete disregard for international law.”

“These acts constitute a complete disregard for international law and the United Nations Charter, undermine the principle of peaceful settlement of disputes, endanger multilateralism and its institutions, indicate a regress to the failed and disastrous era of unilateralism, and encourage intransigence and illegality,” Zarif said in the letter published on Monday on the website of the Iranian Foreign Ministry.

Zarif launched a diplomatic tour early on Sunday designed to try and rescue the nuclear deal. He began the visit on President Rouhani’s order to sound out Europe and other parties to the JCPOA about the possibility of keeping the deal in place.

The Iranian foreign minister held talks with his Chinese and Russian counterparts Wang Yi and Sergei Lavrov, respectively, in Beijing and Moscow over the past two days.

In a meeting with the Chinese foreign minister, Zarif said he seeks a “clearer image” of the future of the key nuclear agreement after the US withdrawal.

He expressed hope that with this visit to China and other countries within the next two days, the sides would be able to depict a clearer vision of the nuclear deal’s future.

At the start of a meeting with Lavrov on Monday, the top Iranian diplomat said he wanted “assurances” from the JCPOA’s signatories that Iran’s interests would be fulfilled.

“The final aim of these negotiations is to seek assurances that the interests of the Iranian nation will be defended,” Zarif said.

Zarif on Tuesday met EU foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini ahead of evening talks with his counterparts from Britain, France and Germany. The three European signatories to the JCPOA have expressed their determination to preserve the landmark Iran nuclear deal.

JCPOA exit, Israel embassy move will prove US isolation: Rouhani

The Iranian president also said on Tuesday that the US decisions to exit the JCPOA and relocate its embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem al-Quds were “very incorrect and inaccurate” and would further isolate Washington.

Rouhani made the remarks in a meeting with New Zealand’s new Ambassador to Tehran Hamish MacMaster, who submitted his credentials to the Iranian president.

He emphasized that the two US decisions were a “big and historic mistake” taken despite the international community’s opposition.

The United States on Monday officially announced the opening of its new embassy in Jerusalem al-Quds amid deadly Israeli crackdown on peaceful protests by Palestinians in the occupied territories and warnings from around the world that the measure risks triggering a fresh wave of violence in the Middle East.

Clashes erupted along the fence between Palestinians and Israeli forces as protesters converged on the site for a “day of rage.” According to Gaza health officials, at least 60 Palestinians were shot dead and hundreds wounded by Israeli snipers who are positioned along the fence, facing the protesters.

The Iranian foreign minister on Monday lashed out at the Israeli regime for pursuing a repressive approach to peaceful protests by Palestinians demanding their right to return to their motherland.

Taking to his official Twitter page on Monday, Zarif took Israel to task for “massacring countless Palestinians in cold blood as they protest in world’s largest open air prison,” in what was a direct allusion to the situation of the Palestinians who live under years-long Israeli blockade in the Gaza Strip.

Trump recognized Jerusalem al-Quds as the “capital” of Israel in December last year, promising to relocate the US diplomatic mission from Tel Aviv to the city.

The decision sparked outrage among Palestinians, who deem Jerusalem al-Quds as the future capital of a Palestinian state.

JCPOA most important diplomatic achievement: New Zealand envoy

The New Zealand’s diplomat, for his part, said the Iran nuclear agreement was the victory of diplomacy and cooperation over confrontation and the most important diplomatic achievement in history.

MacMaster added that world countries’ support for the JCPOA proves the accord’s special significance in international relations.

He also stressed the importance of strengthening mutual relations in all fields, particularly in the economic sector.

Iran, E3 Agree to Hold Intensive Expert Talks on Ways to Secure Tehran’s Interests

Following the US announcement of its withdrawal from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), the Iran nuclear deal, EU Foreign Policy Chief Federica Mogherini held talks with the Foreign Ministers of France (Jean-Yves Le Drian), Germany (Heiko Maas), the United Kingdom (Boris Johnson) and of the Islamic Republic of Iran (Mohammad Javad Zarif) on Tuesday, May 15, 2018.

According to the press release, the top diplomats attending the meeting:

Recalled their commitment to the continued, full and effective implementation of the Iran nuclear deal that was unanimously endorsed by the UN Security Council Resolution 2231, as a key element of the global nuclear non-proliferation architecture and a significant diplomatic achievement;

Regretted the withdrawal of the United States from the Iran nuclear deal and recognised that the lifting of nuclear-related sanctions and the normalisation of trade and economic relations with Iran constitute essential parts of the agreement;

Stressed the commitment they all share to ensure that this will continue to be delivered and they agreed to this end to deepen their dialogue at all levels.

They also undertook, in particular, to launch intensive expert discussions with Iran, addressing the following issues with a view to arriving at practical solutions in the next few weeks:

Maintaining and deepening economic relations with Iran;

The continued sale of Iran’s oil and gas condensate petroleum products and petrochemicals and related transfers;

Effective banking transactions with Iran;

Continued sea, land, air and rail transportation relations with Iran;

The further provision of export credit and development of special purpose vehicles in financial banking, insurance and trade areas, with the aim of facilitating economic and financial cooperation, including by offering practical support for trade and investment;

The further development and implementation of Memoranda of Understanding and contracts between European companies and Iranian counterparts;

Further investments in Iran;

The protection of European Union economic operators and ensuring legal certainty:

And last but not least, the further development of a transparent, rules-based business environment.

They finally reaffirmed their resolve to continue to implement the nuclear deal in all its parts, in good faith, and in a constructive atmosphere, and agreed to continue to consult intensively at all levels and also with other parties to the JCPOA.

Italy, Bulgaria, Austria, Spain Renew Support for Iran Nuclear Deal

Nuclear Deal Talk, JCPOA, Flags

Zarif, who is in Brussels, conferred with Italian, Bulgarian, Austrian and Spanish foreign ministers on the necessity of preserving the JCPOA as a unique diplomatic accomplishment in the contemporary era.

The top Iranian diplomat said it is necessary to give diplomacy a chance in a limited period of time to give guarantees that the Iranian nation will be able to reap the benefits of the JCPOA.

The other four European foreign ministers, in turn, expressed their support for the Iran nuclear deal. They said European countries are planning to study ways of preserving the JCPOA and giving guarantees that Iran’s interests under the deal will be secured.

They also expressed hope that the Iranian foreign minister and his counterparts from the E3 – France, Germany and the UK – will work out on a common and positive prospect in their Tuesday night’s meeting.

“Morocco’s Anti-Iran Claims Only Help Enemies of Islam Advance Their Goals”

In a Tuesday statement, Qassemi dismissed the recent claims made by Moroccan officials against Tehran.

“Either in their meeting with the foreign minister of our country or in their interviews with different media outlets, the authorities of this country (Morocco) did not present any conclusive evidence to prove their claims,” said Qassemi in an interview with the Iranian Students News Agency (ISNA).

He then touched upon Moroccan officials taking anti-Iran stances on numerous occasions since Rabat severed its relations with Tehran.

“After breaking ties with Iran due to a baseless reason, Moroccan officials now have difficulty justifying their action before the public opinion both at home and abroad, and that is why we saw that country’s foreign minister and government spokesman gave interviews and repeated the same old rhetoric against Iran,” said the spokesman.

Qassemi noted Rabat officials have stressed in their interviews that Morocco made the decision to sever ties with Iran independently and not under foreign pressure to break relations with Iran, and at the same time have repeated their false claims that Hezbollah and the Polisario Front, which many countries recognize, have been in contact.

“The officials of this country have not presented any admissible evidence to prove their claims, and that is why they have not been able to offer any convincing answer to the questions and ambiguities surrounding their decision,” said the spokesman.

He said it seems that Moroccan officials believe they can make the public believe their unfounded claims by repeating them instead of presenting credible evidence.

“We remind them that the world public opinion does not easily believe just any false claim,” he added.

Qassemi reiterated Iran’s fundamental policy of non-interference in other countries’ internal affairs and respect for their national security.

“We have announced, time and again, that Iran attaches special importance to the national security of other countries, and within this framework we hope Morocco’s recent move to sever its relations with Iran was not done as part of new regional alignments and under the pressure of certain governments that are standing against the Islamic Republic of Iran today.”

“On the other hand, we wish their severance of relations with Iran is not in line with contributing to US and Israeli plans against anti-Zionist resistance in the region,” he said.

“It is lost on no one that this inappropriate move by Morocco, which is currently the president of the Quds Committee, at a time when the world of Islam needs unity and integrity more than ever before at this sensitive juncture in the region, especially after Trump’s decision to relocate the US embassy [from Tel Aviv] to al-Quds, will only help advance the objectives of the enemies of the Muslim world and deflect attention from the most pressing issue of the Muslim world, i.e. countering aggression against holy al-Quds,” he said.
