Pakistan Says 5 of 12 Iranian Border Guards Released: IRGC

IRGC Chief-Commander Major General Mohammad Ali Jafari said on Thursday that the guards are now free and hosted by the Pakistani government.

He said these soldiers will soon return to the country and efforts are underway to release the other ones.

The Iranian commander made the comments in a press conference in the city of Qazvin.

On October 15, the Jaish al-Adl terrorist group took away 12 Iranian security personnel in the southeastern city of Mirjaveh.

The terrorists then fled to Pakistan with their captives following the cross-border attack.

Immediately after the abduction, Iranian officials started their serious talks with Pakistani authorities to secure the release of the abductees.

Newspapers today widely covered the Iranian Parliament’s move to summon Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif over his comments about “rampant” money laundering in Iran.

Almost all papers highlighted the execution of Vahid Mazloomin, also known as the Sultan of Coin, and his accomplice, over their role in disruption of gold coin and forex markets.

Also a top story was the ceasefire in Gaza Strip between Palestinian resistance group Hamas and the Israeli regime, and the subsequent resignation of Israeli minister of military forces Avigdor Lieberman, which may cost dearly for Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Remarks made by the Leader of Iran’s Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei in a meeting with a group of Iranian Paralympics athletes also received great coverage.

In his Thursday statement, Qassemi also offered sympathy to the American nation and the bereaved families of the victims.

The statewide death toll in California’s wildfires reached 50 late on Tuesday, as authorities reported six more deaths in the Camp fire in the north of the state.

The deaths from the Camp fire, the deadliest wildfire in the state’s history, have increased to 48, the sheriff of Northern California’s Butte County said.

103 people are also missing — most of them senior citizens — in Butte County.

Authorities have requested that 100 National Guard troops join cadaver dogs, mobile morgues and anthropology teams in the grim search and recovery of human remains.

Iran to Establish Four Space Tourism Parks

The remarks were made by Morteza Barari, the Head of the Iranian Space Agency, who elaborated on the plans being implemented by the body.

According to Barari, the parks are set to be established in Damghan’s Mars Hill, Qeshm’s Star Valley and Kerman’s Gandom Beryanak which are highly attractive for space community.

“Our agency has several plans to attract more space tourists by drawing on the resemblance between Iran’s geographical attractions and the solar system,” he said in an interview with Mehr News Agency.

The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) has already enlisted the regions as the most similar regions in the world to Mars, he added.

The then referred to the establishment of an Astronomy and Technology Development Park in Kashan and said estimates show the park would attract 4.5 million tourists in the first half of the next year. “Since we have a high number of starry nights in Kashan, the park could revive the economy of the city as well.”

Barari referred to the public interest in astronomy and space discoveries, adding today, France’s space tourism park attracts more tourists than Eifel Tower. “That’s why today most countries have begun to make investments in space tourism capacities.”

According to Barari, several foreign investors have expressed their readiness to invest in the planned parks.

He underlined the need to take advantage of the attractions in Iran for encouraging further tourists to visit, and said the parks are to be established in line with the same goal.

“Today over 150 Iranian astronomers are working in the US and Europe. We are going to hold an international forum on astronomy with the aim of inviting the astronomers to work in domestic projects,” he added.

Iran Leader Praises Paralympic Athletes as Sources of Morale

On Wednesday, the Leader met with the athletes, who reaped 136 medals for the Islamic Republic, including 51 golds, in this year’s games in Jakarta, Indonesia, last month. The results landed the country in the third place after China and South Korea in medal count.

“The valuable work you did was to show that if the capacities lying dormant either in human beings or in a country are put into action, it will definitely pave the way for great progress and success,” Ayatollah Khamenei said.

Elsewhere, the Leader praised the female athletes for maintaining their Islamic dress code during the competitions and said that by doing so, they stood up to the global arrogance and confidently preserved their religious and national values.

The Leader expressed confidence that many of the country’s current economic problems will be cured if the innumerable national capabilities are put to use.

Ayatollah Khamenei advised everyone to model their performance after that of the Iranian athletes and to engage their inactive resources in order “to achieve progress and welfare in this world and beyond.”

The Leader finally asked that the country’s sports and youth minister to diligently address the athlete’s demands.

Epic Play with Disabled Actors Staged after 10-Year Rehearsal

The wheelchair-bound elderly finally managed to stage their play titled Rostam and Sohrab, a part of the 10th-century Persian epic Shahnameh (Book of Kings) by the renowned poet Ferdowsi.

The crew members, some of whom has been living for five to over twenty years in Kahrizak Charity Sanitarium, began their rehearsal about nine years ago under the leadership of Mirkamal Mirnasiri, widely known in the charity foundation as “Ostad” (Master). They regularly read the play written by Mirnasisri based on the epic text over the past years.

During the years of rehearsal, some of the actors and actresses died but the rest survived to stage the play in Tehran’s Vahdat Hall.

Though it is a theatrical account with its own music and design, the Rostam and Sohrab play by these actors is more like a combination of hope and efforts to achieve goals in life.

Its main audience is first the crew of the play themselves and then those who come to watch it. The hope for life is the most brazen element visible in the eyes and words of each member of the crew.

ISNA reporter attended one of the rehearsals of the crew and made a report based on some interviews made by the crew members. Below you can read some parts of the report selected by IFP:

The role of Tahmineh, the mother of Sohrab is played by a middle-aged woman with a nice appearance. It’s now 29 years that she has been living in Kahrizak. “I have nobody in my life. So I decided to come here myself. I invite all people to come and watch our play because their presence would make us very happy.”

Esmaeil Cheraghi plays the role of Sohrab. He is the youngest member of the group. He has been living in Kahrizak since four years ago. He has decided to come here himself.

Elaborating on his role, Esmaeil says he joined the group about one and a half years ago. “I replaced Mr Ettehad who died some years ago. I was familiar with the play to some extent. Performing in the play has highly raised my morale. The play has opened a new window in our lives which used to be filled with despair.”

Esmaeil went on to say that “I’m sure that the presence of the families of the elderly in Vahdat Hall will definitely raise the morale of the crew members. They would be happy to see their relatives among the audience.”

The actor playing the role of Rostam is a man with long white beard. He calls himself a veteran in theatre.

Soleiman, who is older than the two other leading actors, elaborated on his calmness during the performance. “I have no stress for performing in Vahadat hall because it’s been 18 years that I’ve begun my career in the acting area. I’m also a Quran reciter. I used to play some roles in my wife’s movies.”

“I left home to come here 20 years ago. I came here myself because I couldn’t stay at home due to my physical disability. I’m happy with my life now and my wife has managed to properly bring up our children in my absence. We are regularly in contact,” he noted.

The leading actors and actresses suffer from physical disability. Despite their problems, the crew members have put great time and energy into accomplishing the project assigned to them.

The Rostam and Sohrab play, sponsored by Kahrizak Charity Foundation and directed by Mirkamal Mirnasiri, was staged from November 11 to 13.

Zarif Summoned to Parliament for Money Laundering Remarks

This was announced by Heshmatollah Falahatpisheh, the head of the commission, in an interview with Tasnim News Agency on Wednesday.

The lawmaker was referring to Zarif’s controversial remarks on Monday that money laundering is rampant in the country and many were benefiting from money laundering.

Zarif further asserted that those who profit from money laundering could be spending millions of dollars to push public opinion and government bodies to oppose the ratification of legislation requiring more financial transparency.

Zarif’s comments caused angry reactions among conservative politicians, who believed the remarks were an insult to opponents of Iran’s adoption of the standards set by the global anti-money laundering body, the Financial Action Task Force (FATF).

Some figures asked for information about the identity of the individuals or institutions involved in the money laundering operations.

Foreign Ministry Comes to Zarif’s Defence

Meanwhile, Foreign Ministry was quick to come to Zarif’s defence, with its spokesman censuring the politicization of Zarif’s remarks on Wednesday.

Bahram Qassemi said Zarif’s remarks were a sincere expression of the country’s problems aimed at helping address the country’s problems. He also regretted that the remarks have been used as a card in political rivalries.

Qassemi said Zarif’s remarks were not revealing at all, as statistics on economic problems of Iranian economy prepared by supervisory bodies have been going public for years.

The related bodies have repeatedly reported on the considerable size of contraband goods being smuggled in/out of Iran and tax evasion in the country, he said.

Qassemi said the Iranian foreign minister has said many of FATF opponents are people who care for their country.

However, it’s a possibility that trafficking bands are spending dirty money to build up opposition to the parliamentary legislations required for Iran’s accession to FATF to prevent clarity.

FATF Problems

Zarif is a staunch supporter of Iran’s accession to FATF. As recent as last week, Zarif said concerns that FATF accession harms national security interests are baseless and Iran’s failure to get itself out of the FATF blacklist would mean Tehran has shot itself in the leg.

His defence came as Iran’s adoption of standards set by the G7-created FATF has faced real obstacles in recent months, mainly over concerns among some officials that the move could endanger Iran’s national security interests.

Out of the four bills proposed by the administration of President Hassan Rouhani to get Iran out of the FATF blacklist, only the first one has so far went into effect and the fate of the other three is in limbo.

Earlier this month, the Guardian Council spokesman Abbas-Ali Kadkhodaei said the body had found unresolvable “flaws and ambiguities” in the Combating the Financing of Terrorism (CFT) bill, which is the most important one of the three.

Proponents of the FATF accession say the measure would smooth the path for Iran’s increased financial transactions with the world.

But opponents claim joining the FATF would make the country vulnerable to outside meddling and expose various institutions to terrorism accusations and extraterritorial penalties.

The FATF announced last month it once again extends the deadline for Iran to complete reforms to meet conditions for getting out of the body’s blacklist until February.

US Sanctions Harming Iranian People: Rouhani

rouhani

Rouhani noted that if the Americans are honest and are really looking for security in the region, they have not chosen a right path.

Speaking in a cabinet session on Wednesday, Rouhani underlined that the US has chosen the wrong path by reinstating sanctions on Iran and will be defeated.

“They thought they can totally cut Iran’s oil sale. But later on they realised this is not practical both because of their internal issues and oil price hike,” added Rouhani.

“The US understood that we will sell our oil. There are so many ways for us to sell our oil to make their sanctions ineffective,” he went on to say.

“We keep our financial relations with the world; it may be difficult a little bit, but the Ministry of Oil, the Central Bank, the Ministry of Economic Affairs, the Plan and Budget Organization, and other ministries and authorities would firmly stand against the United States.”

Washington reinstated cruel sanctions targeting Iran’s oil industry early November under the pretext of forcing Tehran to curb its nuclear programme, and stopping the development of ballistic missiles as well as its regional presence.

On Tuesday, US National Security Adviser John Bolton said that Washington wants to step up enforcement of sanctions on Iran and “squeeze them very hard.”

Several papers today covered the remarks made by Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif about the Europeans’ failure to implement their plan to save the Iran nuclear deal, and their reluctance to pay any economic cost for salvaging the JCPOA.

Also a top story was the Israeli attacks on the besieged Gaza Strip, and the retaliatory rocket attacks of Palestinian Resistance Group Hamas against occupied territories.

Tehran to Host Biggest Gathering of Islamic Scholars

The 32nd International Islamic Unity Conference, organized by the World Forum for Proximity of Islamic Schools of Thought (WFPIST), is slated to be held in Tehran on November 24-26 with representatives from more than 80 countries in attendance.

High-ranking officials and religious figures, including 10 ministers and 40 Muftis, plan to participate in the international event.

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani and Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani would deliver speeches at the International Islamic Unity Conference.

The 31st edition of the international event was held in Tehran in December 2017.

It is held annually on the occasion of the birth anniversary of Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon Him) in an effort to lay the ground for stronger unity and solidarity among Muslims and provide appropriate solutions for their problems.
