Tehran, Zagreb Denounce Unilateralism amid COVID-19 Outbreak

The presidents of the Islamic Republic of Iran and Croatia have stressed the need for collaboration and assistance of all countries in the current difficult conditions saying that the unilateral behaviours of certain countries must be confronted.

Referring to the unlawful, irrational and inhumane behaviour of the United States in withdrawing from the 2015 nuclear deal and imposing sanctions and maximum pressure on the Iranian nation, President Hassan Rouhani said the continuation of this behaviour is anti-human.

Tehran expects European countries to deal with such behaviour and take a tough stance, Rouhani added.

For his part, Croatian President Zoran Milanović called the US increase of sanctions and pressure on Iran “inhumane” in such a difficult situation.

He further pointed to the good relations between Tehran and Zagreb, and the importance of developing and deepening relations with Iran.

“As a country with a long history and a unique position in the region, Iran is of special importance for Croatia,” he added.

The Presidents of Iran and Croatia also expressed solidarity with the people of the two countries in the difficult conditions of the combat with Corona, and called for the sharing of experiences and capabilities to contain the disease.

Iran Warns US, Allies against Adventurism, Provocative Moves in Region

Iran Warns US, Allies against Adventurism, Provocative Moves in Region

The Islamic Republic of Iran has warned against any disruption of security in the region saying that any adventurism will lead to a decisive reaction by the armed forces of Iran, the responsibility of which will fall on the hostile forces including the United States.

In a statement on Monday, General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran described the presence of the US military in the Persian Gulf, the Strait of Hormuz and the Sea of Oman as a breach of security in the region, stressing that the formation of void US-led coalitions under the pretext of maintaining ship security is not only not helping, but also a dangerous move that disrupts peace and security of the region at the same time.

It said the Persian Gulf, the Strait of Hormuz and the Sea of Oman, as important international waterways and major economic hubs, have always been safe paths for the movement of oil and merchant ships, and they have enjoyed the necessary security all through the past years. In this regard, the Islamic Republic of Iran, in cooperation with the countries of the region, has tried to maintain stability and calm at an acceptable level.

What follows is the rest of the statement translated by the IFP:

Dangerous moves that disrupt the shipping safety began when the adventurous and terrorist country of the United States and some of its allies came to this sensitive region. The United States, with its risky traffic and military bases in the region, is practically the source of lawlessness, menace, and insecurity. The Islamic Republic of Iran has repeatedly warned the global and international community about destabilising moves of the United States that disrupt regional order and security which are in violation of international law and regulations.

The past Iranian solar year can be considered the peak of evil and insecure movements of the US in the region. Under the untrue pretext of shipping security in the Persian Gulf, the Strait of Hormuz and the Sea of Oman the United States formed multiple coalitions in the region. With the deployment of warships and the increase and deployment of the military forces, it has been posing a lot of risks, and took actions contrary to the customary international law and the law of the sea.

Disruptive and provocative military operations, combat exercises, shooting, territorial aggression, unnecessary inspections of ships and vessels, imposing psychological insecurity on fishermen and traders, preparing grounds for freedom of action for smugglers, polluting the marine environment and endangering marine aquatic life by the use of nuclear propulsion is only part of the risky and unconventional measures of the US Navy in the region that are against the customary international law.

In some cases, the security guards of the Islamic Republic’s Army and the Islamic Revolution Guard Corps have been on the verge of colliding with them.

Therefore, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran considers the presence of the United States and its allies to be unlawful and the source of peril and insecurity in the region.

The Islamic Republic calls on them to comply with international law and rules, as well as the rules of the Islamic Republic, while passing Iran’s exclusive economic waters. They must also avoid any adventurism, and moves that are against safe and harmless navigation. They should avoid false narratives of their risky behaviours as well.

The Islamic Republic of Iran strongly believes and has always stated that the countries of the region have the necessary capabilities to maintain security in the Persian Gulf, the vital waterway of the Strait of Hormuz and the Sea of Oman, as well as the transfer of energy. Fake regional coalitions led by the United States not only do not help maintain stability and security in the region, but also disrupt regional order and security.

On the other hand, the only safe and secure alternative to consolidate peace and stability in the Persian Gulf, the Strait of Hormuz and the Sea of Oman is the withdrawal of US troops and their allies as disruptive centers of peace and stability in the region. Maintaining security of the region must be handed over to the regional countries in cooperation with each other.

The General Staff of the Armed Forces urges the United States and its allies to stop the escalation of tensions and insecurity in this strategic region of the world by ending provocative and dangerous actions.

The AFGS warns them to avoid any tension and conflict and to respect international rules and regulations when crossing the exclusive economic waters of the Islamic Republic of Iran in the Oman Sea and the Persian Gulf and the airspace of these areas, including the FIR (Flight Information Region) and the ADIZ (Air Defence Identification Zone).

As repeatedly stated, Iran has not initiated, and will not initiate any tensions and conflicts in the region, but it always defends its territorial integrity with constant readiness, strength and decisiveness. Obviously, any adventurism, harassment and provocative action will lead to a decisive response from the armed forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran, the responsibility of which will fall on hostile forces including the United States.

Iran, China Presidents Rap US for Sanctions amid Corona Spread

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani and his Chinese counterpart have slammed the US sanctions against the other countries while the deadly coronavirus has crippled people across the world.

President Rouhani said the world is in a situation where everyone needs help, but some people continue their unlawful and inhumane sanctions.

In a phone conversation with Chinese President Xi Jinping on Monday, Rouhani expressed hope that with the efforts and countering measures of countries like China, people see a world without sanctions.

Rouhani went on to point to the US interfering behaviour, calling such actions a threat to security, peace and stability in the region.

“For Iran, the security of the region and waterways is important, but unfortunately, the risky behaviour of the United States may disrupt the stability of the Persian Gulf region,” he underlined.

In turn, the Chinese president Xi Jinping denounced the continuation of US sanctions and its insistence on maximum pressure against Iran. He stated that unfortunately, some countries are seeking political benefits in these conditions, but China is ready to observe international regulations.

He further thanked the Islamic Republic for its assistance amid the outbreak of the coronavirus in China and announced Beijing’s readiness to continue to help Iran contain the virus.

“The drop in the number of patients and deaths, and at the same time the increase in the number of recovering people in Iran show that the treatment programs have been useful and their implementation has been accurate,” noted the Chinese president.

Referring to the initiative of the Islamic Republic called “Hormuz Peace Endeavour”, the Chinese President said this plan is very useful for the security of the region. He added that the security of the Persian Gulf is essential for the international peace and stability.

Iran President Hails Science, Technology Parks for Help in Coronavirus Battle

President of Iran Hassan Rouhani has highlighted the rapid progress that the science and technology parks have made in the country over the past couple of years, saying such valuable asset has helped Iran cope with the coronavirus epidemic.

In remarks at a meeting with the directors of the Iranian science and technology parks and knowledge-based companies, held via video conference on Monday evening, President Rouhani said the domestic science and technology parks have generated a large income and have created employment in the country at a rapid pace in recent years.

The number of Iranian science and technology parks has increased by 19 percent over the past 8 years, reaching a total of 43, the president noted, saying the knowledge-based companies working under the auspices of the science and technology parks have generated more than 13 trillion tomans in income.

President Rouhani also stressed the importance of strengthening the connection and cooperation among the universities, the science and technology parks and the factories, saying such collaboration will benefit the interests of all three sectors.

Describing the science and technology parks as a “valuable hidden asset”, the president said such parks play a significant role in boosting the knowledge-based economy as well as the employment of university students and graduates.

“Little by little we must evaluate our universities on the basis of the number of science and technology parks and the way they can transfer science to the market through these parks. It means that we must deliver our science, knowledge and technology to the end user,” President Rouhani underlined.

He further praised the local knowledge-based companies for satisfying the domestic demand for medical and protective supplies in the fight against the novel coronavirus, saying the capability to fulfill the domestic needs and pave the way for the export of masks, disinfectants and medical ventilators demonstrates the country’s success to attain self-sufficiency and create knowledge-based economy.

Pointing to a global race to beat COVID-19 by making a vaccine, President Rouhani said Iran has also entered this competition. “If we manage to take a step forward and achieve (the vaccine) sooner than the others, it will be significant in terms of glory, health, saving humans, and economy.”

The president further recommended that the 43 science and technology parks across the country share duties and focus on specialized fields relating to diagnosis, production of medical supplies and treatment

He then made a reference to a report from Vice President for Science and Technology Sorena Sattari, saying Iran will start exporting COVID-19 serology-based testing kits in the coming weeks after meeting the domestic demand.

The president also emphasized that the local knowledge-based companies can play a leading role in mitigating the economic and social consequences of coronavirus epidemic.

While people have to stay home, the knowledge-based enterprises can fulfill their needs via the virtual space, provide the necessary information in the cyberspace, and lessen the economic impacts of the pandemic, the president concluded.

Iran Produces Ventilators at Price Half That of Foreign-Made Ones

Iran Produces Ventilators at Price Half That of Foreign-Made Ones

At the moment, the country is witnessing major developments when it comes to the development of medical equipment to fight the coronavirus.

In addition to ventilators, Iranian experts have also developed products which were once monopolized by the United States.

Since early 2020, the whole world has been gripped by deadly coronavirus, which spreads fast, has infected millions and killed large numbers of others across the globe. Following the outbreak of the disease, Iranian experts went into action to fight the disease and develop a treatment for it.

Soon Iranian experts developed medical equipment, face masks and disinfectants as well as ventilators and different types of coronavirus diagnosis kits to help contain the spread of the virus. Various operating room devices are also produced.

Sorena Sattari, the vice president for scientific affaris, says Iran has now achieved good understanding of the coronavirus and ways of diagnosing it thanks to efforts by local researchers. Moreover, all necessary medical equipment is also produced inside the country.

The managing director of a knowledge-based company says good infrastructure exists in the country for the production of face masks.

The CEO says masks produced in Iran measure up to European standards, adding, “N95 and N99 masks produced in Iran comply with American standards as they are very important when it comes to the coronavirus.”

He said the production of masks does not eat into the country’s foreign currency reserves; rather, it brings in forex as well due to exports.

The managing director of another knowledge-based company producing ventilators says the devices have received the necessary permits and licences both from local authorities and from Europe. He said Iran exported ventilators to several countries even before the coronavirus outbreak.

He added the ventilators can compete with similar foreign-made products in terms of quality and features.

“So, this device measures up to modern standards in the world,” he added.

The CEO of another knowledge-based firm producing thermal cameras said the first such camera was developed at the time when coronavirus began to spread in the country. He said the device is capable of measuring body temperature and distinguish individuals who have fever.

“This thermal camera is used in crowded places such as airports, subway stations and passenger terminals,” he added.

He said most parts of the device are produced domestically and that the company can produce as many thermal cameras required domestically.

Sholeh-Qalamkar Broth: A Hard to Make, but Mouth-Watering Iranian Food

Sholeh-Qalamkar Broth

Although it is difficult to make, Sholeh-Qalamkar broth is a very popular meal which is also distributed among people as Nazri (votive food offering), especially in the holy month of Ramadan.

The food is made with a whole variety of ingredients and takes a long time to cook. That is why the Sholeh-Qalamkar broth is known as a food which is usually served as Nazri and on some special occasions. Nevertheless, it can be cooked at home as well. The holy month of Ramadan is the best opportunity for making this tasty broth.

Ingredients:

Onions: 4 onions
Garlic: 2 cloves
Rice: half a cup
Peas: half a glass
Lentil: 1 glass
Wheat: half a glass
Pinto beans: half a glass
Broth herbs: 0.5kg
Kashk*: as much as needed
* an ingredient made from drained yogurt
Boneless meat: 250gr
Salt, black pepper and turmeric: as much as needed

Recipe:

First, put the peas and beans in a bowl before pouring water on them. Then soak them for six hours. We had better change the water two to three times during those six hours. You may soak the pulses overnight and rinse them the next morning. Then peel three of the onions and shred them before putting them in a large frying pan and putting them on low heat.

Afterwards, put the onions into oil and sauté them until they turn soft and gold in colour. Then put the fried onions onto a plate and set them aside. Then wash the wheat and rinse it before putting it into a casserole and adding five glasses of water. Turn down the heat and wait until the wheat is cooked through. Afterwards, put the peas in a casserole and add water before putting them on the heat to cook. After one hour, rinse the beans, too, and add them to the peas, so that they both get cooked through.

Then wash the meat and chop it before putting it in the casserole and adding a few glasses of cold water. Then peel the remaining one onion together with the garlic. Chop the onion into four parts and add it to the meat. Put the ingredients on low heat to cook. Then put the lentils in a bowl and add water to soak it for one hour. After the meat is cooked, bring it out of the juice before straining the juice and putting it aside. Shred the meat and put them aside, too. Now, wash the rice clean and put it in a large casserole. Rinse the lentils and add them to the rice. Add six glasses of water to the ingredients inside the casserole and first put them on high heat until it starts boiling. Then turn down the heat until the lentils and rice get soft. The herbs used to make this broth include spinach, sweet fennel, basil, parsley, mint and coriander. Put an equal amount of each in Sholeh-Qalamkar broth. The herbs need to have already been cleaned, washed, rinsed and chopped.

After the rice and lentils are cooked, add some salt before adding the herbs to the ingredients (so that the herbs will almost retain their colour).

It takes almost 20 minutes for the herbs to go soft. Afterwards, add cooked peas, beans and wheat as well as shredded meat and meat juice. Then add the spices, including turmeric, salt and black pepper.

Put half of the fired onions inside the broth before adding boiling water. Put the casserole lid on and leave the broth on low heat for two to three hours until it is cooked through. When the broth is ready, pour it into a large bowl and garnish it with fired mint, kashk and fired onions.
