US Hated in Important Part of World: Iran’s Leader

US Hated in Important Part of World: Iran’s Leader

Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei noted this hatred is caused by actions taken by Washington.

“Today, not only are the US society and system not attractive, but, in one sense, they are hated in an important part of the world as well,” said the Leader in a meeting, via videoconference, with representatives of university students’ associations.

“The United States’ long-term performance has led to this government being hated in a major part of the world; warmongering, helping notorious governments, training terrorists, unflinching support for oppression, and moves as such,” Ayatollah Khamenei noted.

“Of course, the Americans will not remain in Iraq and Syria and will be expelled,” the Leader underlined.

Elsewhere in his remarks, Ayatollah Khamenei said no tolerance should be shown toward enemies.

“Don’t be lenient to those who do not accept the principles of the revolution, sow doubt and paint a colourful picture of the enemy; creating doubt is the backbone of the enemy’s activity,” he underlined.

The Leader also said Iran is engaged in a major combat against the oppression and arrogance front, saying the enemy seeks to undermine “our national self-confidence.”

He noted that a feeling of power and dignity has been institutionalized in the country and its people.

Iran Warns US against Interference with Its Fuel Transfer to Venezuela

Following the release of reports suggesting US officials had threatened to harass Iranian tankers carrying fuel to Venezuela, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif, in a letter to UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres, warned the United States about sending troops to the Caribbean Sea with the aim of interfering with the transfer of Iran’s fuel to Venezuela.

In the letter, Zarif dismissed the United States’ illegal, dangerous and provocative move as a kind of marine piracy and a major peril to international peace and security.

Zarif stressed that the US must give up bullying on the world stage and respect the rule of international law, especially free shipping in the high seas.

He recalled the US government’s responsibility for the consequences of any illegal action, and underlined Iran’s right to adopt appropriate and necessary measures to counter these threats.

After the letter was sent. Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Political Affairs Seyyed Abbas Araqchi summoned the ambassador of Switzerland, which represents the US interests in Iran, and asked the top diplomat to relay to Washington officials Iran’s serious warning over any possible threat by the US against Iranian tankers.

Araqchi described Iran-Venezuela relations as completely legitimate and legal, and said any resort to coercive measures or other bullying behaviour by the US amounts to a threat to free shipping and international trade and the free flow of energy, and is a clear manifestation of international law and runs counter to the principles and objectives stipulated in the UN Charter.

Araqchi warned that any threat against Iranian tankers will be met with Iran’s immediate and firm response, and the US government will be responsible for its consequences.

The Swiss ambassador also said he will immediately inform US officials of Iran’s stance.

Boycott of Israel in Sports Excluded from Iranian Parliament’s Motion

Boycott of Israel in Sports Excluded from Iranian Parliament’s Motion

Rapporteur of the Iranian Parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Commission, Seyyed Hossein Naqavi Hosseini, said on Sunday that in the latest review of the motion to counter the hostile measures of Israel, the article on boycott of Israeli athletes was removed upon the government’s request.

“Yesterday, the National Security and Foreign Policy Commission of the Parliament discussed the details of the motion to counter the hostile actions of the Zionist regime and approved its 15 articles,” Naqavi Hosseini told ISNA.

Based on a request by the ministry of sports, the ban on competing against Israeli athletes was removed, noted the senior Iranian lawmaker.

The Iranian parliament ratified a motion on Saturday, urging all state-run organisations to use their capacities to counter the “hostile” actions of Israel including its “acts of terrorism”.

Based on this motion, whose double-urgency was approved with no opposition, the Iranian government must impose bans on all economic, commercial and financial institutions of Israel whose shares belong to Israeli citizens.

The Sports Ministry’s request for exclusion of the ban from the parliamentary motion comes against the backdrop of warnings that all Iranian sports may be disqualified from attending international events in case such a ban is formally in place.

The Islamic Republic does not recognise Israel, and Iranian athletes are not allowed to compete against Israeli athletes at international sports events based on an informal law.

Foreign Minister Zarif held phone conversations with Afghan President Ashraf Ghani and Head of Afghanistan’s National Reconciliation High Council Abdullah Abdullah on Sunday afternoon.

During the conversations, the top Iranian diplomat embraced the agreement reached on the trend of national reconciliation in Afghanistan.

Zarif also expressed Iran’s readiness to support efforts to maintain convergence among all Afghan groups.

Earlier, Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesman expressed readiness to help boost negotiations between Afghan parties over political issues.

Seyyed Abbas Mousavi said that Tehran is ready to assist Kabul in the process of intra-Afghan political talks and continued alliance of Afghan groups, including the Taliban.
Mousavi also expressed satisfaction over the signing of the agreement between President Ghani and Dr Abdullah, who signed a power-sharing deal on Sunday to end a months-long political deadlock.

Ghani’s Spokesman, Sediq Sediqqi, said Abdullah would lead the council for peace talks with the Taliban and his team members would be included in the cabinet.

Abdullah had disputed the results of presidential election in September and announced the formation of a parallel government earlier this year.

Iran, Russia Dismiss Reports of Deal on Removal of Assad

Iran, Russia Dismiss Reports of Deal on Removal of Assad

A senior foreign policy advisor to the Iranian Parliament speaker dismissed the rumours of an agreement between Iran and Russia over the resignation of the legitimate President of the Syrian Republic, saying such lies are the new tricks by the American-Zionist media.

In a tweet on Sunday, Hossein Amir-Abdollahian added that Bashar al-Assad is the legitimate president of Syria and the great leader of the fight against Takfiri terrorism in the Arab world.

“Report of a deal between Iran and Russia for his resignation is a big lie and a game by the US-Zionist media. Tehran strongly supports the sovereignty, national unity and territorial integrity of Syria,” reads his tweet.

Meanwhile, the Russian ambassador to Tehran also said Iran and Russia do not decide on the future of the Syrian people and the president of that country.

In an interview with Mehr News Agency, Levan Dzhagaryan added the future of Bashar al-Assad and Syria will be decided by the people of this country through transparent and free elections.

“We, as friendly foreign countries, must help the Syrian people to restore peace and pave the way for the continuation of the political process in this country,” underlined Dzhagaryan.

He further noted that these kinds of rumours have been spread by countries that oppose the successful function of the Astana process.

“These countries are against international law and want to forcibly overthrow the legitimate government. So, if a government is not well-matched with the United States and its allies, they will impose sanctions and try to remove that government illegally.”

In the end, Dzhagayan reiterated that Moscow has a very good relationship with Bashar al-Assad and his legitimate government, and the two countries will continue to work together.

Iran’s Defence Minister Pledges Full Support for New Iraqi Government

Iran’s Defence Minister Pledges Full Support for New Iraqi Government

On a video call with new Iraqi Defense Minister Juma Anad Saadoun on Sunday, General Hatami stressed the need to promote defence cooperation between Tehran and Baghdad to ensure regional stability and security.

Congratulating the Iraqi minister on taking office, the Iranian general said the Islamic Republic is eager to provide all of its capacities for Iraq.

“We seek to become strategic partners and turn our relations into a successful paradigm of cooperation,” the Iranian defence minister added.

Highlighting the common historical, cultural and religious values between the Iranian and Iraqi nations, Hatami expressed satisfaction with the formation of the new Iraqi government on the basis of national consensus and in line with the interests of all Iraqi ethnic and religious groups.

“Iran’s principled policy is (supporting) a united, independent and powerful Iraq with the participation of all ethnic groups and religions,” the Iranian minister noted.

He further wished the new government of Iraq success in fulfilling the national demands, improving the economic situation and fighting against the coronavirus, and invited the incoming defence minister of Iraq to pay an official visit to Iran.

General Hatami finally noted that the Iranian Defence Ministry is going to donate a consignment of COVID-19 diagnostic test kits and other coronavirus-related medical supplies to the Iraqi embassy in Tehran.

In a telephone conversation with Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi last week, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani vowed unflinching support for the new Iraqi government, stressing the need to further enhance bilateral relations and work towards the implementation of the joint agreements.

Iran’s Trade with Venezuela Has Nothing to Do with Anyone Else: Spokesman

Iran Trade with Venezuela Has Nothing to Do with Anyone Else

In comments on Saturday, Rabiei said “Venezuela and Iran are both independent states that have had and will continue to have trade relations with each other.”

“We sell goods and buy goods in return. This trade has nothing to do with anyone else,” he noted.

“We have to sell our oil, and we have ways to do it,” Rabiei said.

He made the remarks in reaction to reports that five Iranian tankers are shipping tonnes of gasoline to Venezuela in defiance of US sanctions on both countries.

A senior official in US President Donald Trump’s administration told Reuters on Thursday that the United States was considering measures against Iran in response to the fuel shipment.

The official said Washington has a “high degree of certainty” that the Venezuelan government is paying Iran in gold for the fuel.

There are unconfirmed reports that the US Navy has deployed its USS Detroit (LCS-7), USS Lassen (DDG-82), USS Preble (DDG-88), and USS Farragut (DDG-99) to the Caribbean along with its patrol aircraft Boeing P8-Poseidon for possible encounter with the Iranian vessels.

However, analysts say it is very unlikely that the US makes such a mistake, as it would have serious repercussions for the Trump administration ahead of the November elections.
