Over 300,000 Iranians Infected by Coronavirus: Ministry

In a press briefing on Friday, Sima-Sadat Lari said the virus has killed 197 patients since Thursday noon, increasing the overall death toll to 16,766.

So far, she added, 263,519 patients have recovered from the disease or been discharged from the hospital.

Lari said 4,021 patients are also in critical conditions caused by more severe infection.
The spokeswoman noted that 2,456,909 COVID-19 tests have been taken across the country so far.

Tehran, Mazandaran, Golestan, Fars, East Azarbaijan, Ardabil, Isfahan, Alborz, Ilam, Khorasan Razavi, Kerman, North Khorasan, Semnan, Lorestan, and Hormozgan provinces are currently considered as “red zones” in terms of coronavirus outbreak.

She also referred to West Azarbaijan, Khuzestan, Bushehr, Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari, Zanjan, Hamadan, Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad, Markazi, Yazd, Gilan, and Qom as the provinces where the situation is “orange”.

Leader Calls US Sanctions ‘Crime against Iranian Nation’

Leader Calls US Sanctions ‘Crime against Iranian Nation’

Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei said Washington has imposed sanctions on a whole nation.

“Well, the sanctions that the US has imposed on the Iranian nation are definitely a crime and there is no doubt about it. It is a big crime that they are committing against a nation,” he said while making a televised speech on the occasion of the Muslim festival of Eid al-Adha.

“On the face of it, the sanctions are slapped on the Islamic Republic [of Iran]’s Establishment,
but in fact, the crime is being committed against the whole Iranian nation,” said Ayatollah Khamenei.
The Leader said the White House pursues several objectives by imposing sanction on Iran.

“One point is that they pursue a short-term, a medium-term, a long-term and a peripheral objective,” he said.

“Their short-term goal is to make people desperate, to make the Iranian people tired and desperate and disturbed to make them turn against the System,” said Ayatollah Khamenei.

“Their medium-term objective is to stop the country’s progress,
basically scientific progress, by imposing sanctions,” Ayatollah Khamenei said.

“And their long-term objective is to drive the country into bankruptcy, to drive the government into bankruptcy. They want to shatter the country’s economy,” the Leader noted.

“And they also have a peripheral objective, and that is to cut off the Islamic Republic [of Iran]’s link with resistance forces in the region, because they know the Islamic Republic helps and supports resistance force as much as it can,” Ayatollah Khamenei said.

Elsewhere in his remarks, the Leader said the US also seeks to distort realities, “whether realities in the country or those related to the country.”

“By distorting realities, they pursue two objectives: First, to undermine people’s morale, and second, to mislead them with regards to resolving the issue of sanctions,” said the Leader.

He stressed that Washington’s dream to make Iran surrender will not come true, and urged all not to succumb to US demands and bullying.

The Leader pointed to the US’ call for negotiation with Iran, and said, “Those who call for talks with Iran seek to negotiate over these issues. Everyone must pay attention; I have said this for several times, and I have to repeat it, because some either fail to understand or pretend they can’t understand.”

“If the enemy talks of negotiation, it means ‘come to the negotiating table and don’t develop missiles’. If you give in to their demands … you’d make yourself defenceless; and if you don’t, you’d have to face the same story: quarrel, threats and sanctions again. This is what negotiation means.”

The Leader said the reason for his opposition to negotiation with America is that “such negotiations have no use; of course they benefit from it [but Iran doesn’t].”

“The old guy who is in office in the US apparently took some propaganda advantages of negotiation with North Korea. He wants to use it [negotiation with Iran] for his personal gain in elections and elsewhere,” the Leader noted.

However, Ayatollah Khamenei stressed, the US ruling system seeks to achieve broader “vital” objectives beyond what the incumbent president seeks to gain from talks with Iran.

“They say you should abandon your defensive equipment, your regional power and national might. No man of honour interested in maintaining the country’s interests would give in to such demands. This is why I’m opposed to negotiation; or else, we hold talks with the entire world, except for the US and the fake Zionist regime, and there’s no problem with that,” he added.

He also criticized the Europeans for failing to make good on their commitments under the Iran nuclear deal, describing their INSTEX mechanism as “nonsense”.

Iran Decries US Envoy’s Comments about Coronavirus Outbreak

Iran Decries US Envoy’s Comments about Coronavirus Outbreak

The Iranian embassy in Kuwait dismissed the comments made by Hook durint a visit to the Arab country as an attempt to promote Iranophobia.

“Such attempts at promoting Iranophobia are an insult to public opinion of the people in the region and of the percipient people of Kuwait,” said the embassy on its Twitter page.

“We recommend Hook does not get involved in this issue. He had better ask Kuwaiti officials how many times that of Iran is the number of coronavirus patients going to Kuwait from the US,” read the tweet.

“Someone needs to tell this envoy that COVID-19 is a global virus, will not stop behind any border, and has gripped the whole world today,” the embassy added.

“The purpose of a trip to Kuwait by Trump’s special envoy is to urge regional countries not to abide by UN Security Council Resolution 2231,” the tweet read.

“Before sympathizing with the people in the region, the US had better care about its own people, particularly people of colour. A person who has no mercy on its own people, will definitely not have mercy on others, either,” the embassy said.

The Iranian president also described Eid al-Adha as the embodiment of obedience to divine orders, the manifestation of blessing of God, and the highest degree of faith in the Creator.

President Rouhani finally expressed hope that that all Muslims across the world would seize this auspicious opportunity to move closer to Almighty God with reliance on the teachings of Islam.

Regional Cooperation Sole Way to Ensure Security, Iran Tells Qatar

In a telephone conversation with Emir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani on Thursday, President Rouhani emphasized the necessity for the expansion of relations between Tehran and Doha given the delicate situation in the region.

“Security and stability in the region would be achievable only within the framework of regional cooperation, and we can undoubtedly bring about better conditions in the region with the promotion of cooperation,” the Iranian president said.

He also congratulated the Qatari government and nation on Eid al-Adha, and hailed the positive ties between Iran and Qatar as two age-old neighbors.

“The Islamic Republic of Iran sees no obstacle and limit to the expansion of relations and cooperation with Qatar as a friendly and brotherly country,” President Rouhani noted.

He finally expressed hope that the efforts made by the officials of the two countries in Iran-Qatar Joint Economic Commission would give a boost to economic cooperation and that the two states would be able to hold a face-to-face meeting in the near future.

For his part, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani congratulated the Iranian government and nation on the Muslim festival of Eid-al- Adha, calling for the enhancement of economic interaction between the two states.

Highlighting the significance that Qatar attaches to the promotion of ties with Iran, the emir expressed hope that overcoming the problems and difficulties would help the two nations make great strides in broadening their ties in all fields.

Iran and Qatar have stepped up diplomatic and economic relations in recent years, particularly after the Islamic Republic helped Qatar secure supplies when a Saudi-backed boycott was first imposed in 2017.

President Rouhani has repeatedly expressed Iran’s readiness to share its experiences in the fight against the novel coronavirus with Qatar.

Iran’s Economy Growing Despite Sanctions, COVID-19 Outbreak: Rouhani

Predident Hassan Rouhani said the Iranian nation is standing up to economic hardship and will move forward with domestic production and national development.

“The enemies won’t be able to force the great Iranian nation into submission,” said Rouhani in a ceremony where several development, production and infrastructural projects were inaugurated.

“As the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution has named the current year as the year of “jump in production”, the trend of production will move full steam ahead, and as new projects come on stream in the country, we will see more job opportunities created in the country,” he said.

President Rouhani noted that Iranian people are resisting both the coronavirus pandemic and sanctions.

“We should all join hands to establish a constructive engagement atmosphere between all branches of government as well as between the private sector and the state sector, so that people’s problems will be solved as soon as possible,” he said.

He said a close relationship between the private and state sectors coupled with the lifting of restrictions will give fresh impetus to production, boost development and disappoint the enemy.

Syria Opens Probe into US Interception of Iran Airliner

Syria Opens Probe into US Interception of Iran Airliner

Hassan Rezaeifar, a senior CAO official, said on Thursday that the investigation has already started.

“The Syrian Civil Aviation Authority has launched a probe into the incident in which a passenger plane operated by the Iranian airline Mahan was harassed on an international flight route in Syria, and some of the passengers and crew were injured,” he said.

“With the CAO following up the issue and the necessary information being sent … today, an incident review committee from Syria … officially launched an investigation into the incident, and has invited Iranian incident review committees … to cooperate in the probe,” he said.

Before Syria issues a report on the incident, he said, the report will be reviewed by the Iranian committee as well and the necessary documents will be submitted to Syria.

“After agreement is reached on the final report and it is sent to international authorities such as the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), the necessary legal follow-up work will be done,” he said.

On Thursday, two US F-15 warplanes conducted a dangerous maneuvering close to Mahan Air’s Flight 1152 that had taken off from Tehran and was heading to Beirut.

The incident took place over Syria’s al-Tanf region, where the US maintains an illegal military presence.

The airliner’s pilot was forced to swiftly lower the altitude to avoid a collision with the American jets.
The sudden swerve led to the injuries of some of the passengers and left them panicked. The flight, however, landed safely in the Lebanese capital and those wounded were taken to hospital.

Harassment of Iranian Airliner Shows US Weakness: Tehran

Harassment of Iranian Airliner Shows US Weakness: Tehran

“These unwise and very cheap moves by a country which claims to be a superpower shows the intensity of its weakness and desperation against the Iranian nation,” Chief of Staff of the President’s Office Mahmoud Vaezi said on Thursday.

“They (the US) were trying to create panic among Iranian people and make us show security reaction, but the Iranian nation and government prudently made the US fail to achieve its objectives,” he said.

“Relevant authorities of our country are pursuing appropriate legal and political measures at international circles against this dangerous move,” he added.

Iran Filing Lawsuit against Korean Banks for Seizing Its Assets

Iran Summons French Envoy over Macron’s Anti-Islam Stances

The Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs broke the news in an announcement it released in response to an article titled “Who emboldened the Koreans?” which was published in the Iranian press.

“Over the past two years, high on the agenda and a pivotal issue in Iran-South Korea relations has been to provide access to the financial resources of the Central Bank of Iran in South Korea,” the statement said.

“Accordingly, in addition to receiving South Korea’s special envoy, dozens of meetings have been held in Tehran and Seoul with South Korean authorities,” it added.

“In accordance with its fundamental duties, the foreign ministry deliberately facilitates foreign relations, including economic ties with other countries, and stands by other institutions in the country in line with carrying out this mission.”

The statement said “pertinent authorities are filing a lawsuit against the delinquent Korean banks at competent courts, and this has been announced by the respected governor of the Central Bank.”

“Obviously, the nature of the responsibilities of the foreign ministry requires that it should not publicly announce all of its activities.”

It also dismissed a media report by conservative newspaper Kayhan that scorned the Foreign Ministry for its lack of enough action on the issue of blocked funds.

The statement denied that the Iranian ambassador to Seoul has been “summoned” to the Korean Foreign Ministry.

On Wednesday, Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Seyyed Abbas Mousavi issued a fresh warning to South Korea over billions of dollars of Iranian funds blocked in the Southeast Asian country, signaling that Tehran would not be happy with a partial reimbursement through humanitarian shipments.

Iran has had enough of various promises made in South Korea about returning the funds that have been illegally blocked by two banks over US sanctions, Mousavi said.

“We’ve much heard promises from South Korea. Now, we only wait for tangible, vital action,” said Mousavi in a tweet.

The spokesman further warned Seoul that sending a large shipment of humanitarian goods to Iran paid for by Iranian funds would not please Tehran.

“We hope (South Korea) officials to remember about amount of Iranian nation’s financial resources in Seoul,” he said.

Reports in recent weeks had suggested that South Korea plans to allow Iran to use part of its funds, believed to be between $6 billion and $9 billion, to buy medicine and medical equipment from South Korean companies.

Trade sources have expressed hope that Iran could gradually use the funds for other purchases in South Korean in the near future.
