Young Iranian Prodigies Getting Noticed in Esports Industry

Young Iranian Prodigies Getting Noticed in Esports Industry

With the growth of esports coming so quickly, it is resulting in a range of different games starting to appeal to different players. So who are the young stars coming from Iran and how are their achievements shaping up so far?

Alireza “Firouzja2003” Firouzja

The 17-year old player has been active on chess24 and Chess.com since 2018, even winning some early online events at the age of 14. Whilst it may not be surprising that Chess has become a popular title in the country, the current winnings may be – with prize money totalling $54,443.61 from 34 tournaments and $48,000 of that coming in 2020 alone. The young player is the highest earning esports personality in the country and at such a young age there’s still plenty of time to improve and enhance this impressive record further.

This young player could be able to grow that figure much higher this year too. Chess has really exploded in popularity recently as a number of high profile Twitch streamers recently took to holding a big event placing chess as one of the most viewed titles on the platform. For quite some time and although figures have dropped since it has shown that there is a demand for chess in esports and that there’s still plenty to be won. The young player earned his Grandmaster title at the age of 14, so it isn’t just online success that can push this career forward and follow the likes of other young prodigy turned stars like Carlsen.

With such a high profile young player being a betting favourite, many bookmakers are starting to place great odds on him placing at tournaments. Whilst sports betting and gambling does remain illegal in Iran, there are a growing number of services available for punters to show support for young stars and as sports betting in Iran becomes more popular. Could this yet result in these restrictions changing within the near future?

Ashkan “TF Blade” Homayouni

Although his winnings are much lower than the previous entry totalling just $8,900, the young Iranian born, Canadian native League of Legends player may be the most well-known. This is due to him having over one million Twitch followers and averaging around 10,000 viewers per stream. He is considered to be one of the best solo players in the world for League of Legends and signed to Team Liquid, one of the biggest organisations in the world. This is following reaching the highest rank in every competitive region in the world and maintaining multiple accounts at the top of the North American game ladder, many expect TF Blade to be the next big League of Legends star if he’s able to temper his anger and toxicity issues.

With his rather high profile status and the game that he currently plays being one of the biggest in the world, it’s certainly possible that TF Blade will be the first big name to emerge from Iran in the world of esports. Could this then start to put players on the map and ushering in a new era of eastern players in a market that is currently under represented across all online games.

Team “ForGlory”

Not an individual player, but a group of five – ForGlory is an Iranian Counter-Strike Global Offensive team and the first to really be put into the spotlight in some way. Whilst the young team hasn’t really had an opportunity to play on the international stage just yet, they did face their first big challenge in 2018 when facing off against Giants, a Brazilian team that sits just outside of the top 100 for professional teams.

The big benefit here though is that it only takes a small start to really make it big and we had seen that from Brazil previously – the region had been largely underrepresented in CS:GO until a few breakout performances had really set them apart. Could this now be the same for the ForGlory team? – a few big performances could set them apart and start the Counter-Strike movement in the country.

There’s certainly still a long way to go for esports in Iran and a lot of that may come down to a shifting in cultural acceptance, as is being seen across most of the world, but there are a few ambassadors really pushing the sport forward. Iranian sport as a whole is really starting to move forward with more traditional titles like football still remaining the most popular, but as we continue to move toward a digital era it’s still very possible that esports will emerge as the next big competitive endeavour for young players and follow other parts of the world in finding huge esports success.

US Back-to-Back Defeats at UN Result of Iran’s Resistance: Rouhani

Rouhani Congratulates Beijing on China’s National Day

President Hassan Rouhani said Washington is failing because of the Iranian nation’s resistance.

“Had the Iranian nation given up, … the enemy would have reinstated the sanction in 2018 and brought us to our knees,” he said.

He urged people to keep standing up to all enemy pressure, especially the US, which, as Rouhani noted, is hatching a plot against Iran every day.

“Despite all pressure, [Iranian] people withstood hardships and kept resisting. People put up with problems in their lives, but did not succumb to the enemy,” he said.

“The enemies wanted to bring us to a point of collapse and they kept saying that Iran would be gone by the end of winter,” he noted.

President Rouhani said the Iranian nation has managed to emerge victorious in the face of major powers with resistance.

Iran’s Revenues from Non-Oil Exports Exceed Value of Imports: President

“Finally after 60 years, our non-oil exports outpaced our imports under this administration. It was unprecedented during 60 years, since the government of late Mosaddegh until now,” President Rouhani said in a meeting with the top managers of Iranian news agencies and media outlets on Tuesday.

“It has been unfrequented in 26 years that we’d have single-digit inflation for two years, in 1395 and 1396 (2016 and 2017),” he noted.

The president said his administration’s performance in 2016 was so great that Iran achieved the highest economic growth rate in the world.

He also unveiled plans to increase the country’s total power generation capacity by 20,000 Megawatts until the end of his administration.

The president finally pointed to his administration’s projects in the water industry, saying over 50 dams will have been inaugurated across the country by the end of the administration’s term.

UAE to Blame for Any Israeli Move against Iran, Spokesman Warns

UAE to Blame for Any Israeli Move against Iran, Spokesman Warns

Speaking to reporters at a weekly press conference on Tuesday, Rabiei slammed the UAE’s decision to formalize relations with the “usurping Zionist regime as a big and strategic mistake”.

“We expect the UAE government officials to monitor the (Zionist) regime’s activities inside their country and prevent any anti-security measure by the (Israeli) regime. The responsibility for any action against and its consequences for the Islamic Republic of Iran that would be taken by the Zionist regime will certainly lie with Abu Dhabi as well,” he warned.

“We deem any dangerous interference from the Zionist regime in the region to be risky. We warn that the consequences of these measures would plague those countries themselves,” the spokesman added.

He further reminded the Abu Dhabi officials that normalization of ties with Israel would “result in nothing but loss to those statesmen themselves.”

“It will become clear in the medium term that all of these will be detrimental (to the UAE),” he noted.

“The Zionist regime should be held accountable for the consequences of growing acts of interference. People of the region are definitely vigilant in this issue,” Rabiei said.

“We cannot remain indifferent to anti-security measures of our Zionist enemy near our borders,” he emphasized.

“All of our officials adopted stances. The Islamic Republic of Iran strongly condemns any attempt to establish formal and diplomatic relations with a fake regime. The normalization of ties with the Zionist regime is tantamount to support for the whole various crimes that Zionists have committed against people throughout history, during the past decades after their illegitimate formation, the crimes they have committed again people of the region, and the many wars they have imposed on the regional people and on the causes of the oppressed Palestinian nation,” the spokesperson added.

“Undoubtedly, the Muslim nations in the region have become growingly aware of the hidden aspects of the minds of leaders who have betrayed the issue of Palestine with their raw ideas and have given in to the Israeli desires. Its evidence is now obvious among the nations,” the Iranian spokesperson concluded.

Iran Says Ready for Cooperation with IAEA within Int’l Rules

Iran Says Ready for Cooperation with IAEA within Int’l Rules

In the Tuesday talks, the Iranian Foreign Minister underlined that the cooperation between Tehran and the IAEA has always been based on international commitments and within technical and professional frameworks.

“As the IAEA has repeatedly stressed, Iran and the Agency have the utmost cooperation over Safeguards, and this path can continue within the same framework,” Zarif said.

He also expressed hope that once the existing disputes are resolved based on mutual trust, the two sides’ cooperation would continue within the IAEA Safeguards and based on good faith.

Grossi, for his part, stressed that the IAEA will fulfil its duties based on the principles of impartiality and professionalism and merely within the framework of technical considerations.

He also noted that the cooperation between Iran and the IAEA in the past has been in the interests of both sides, and once certain problems are resolved, the two sides can continue their collaborations.

Iran Calls Snapback ‘A Journalistic Term’ Never Mentioned in JCPOA

Iran Says US Change of Tack to Benefit Region, World

Ali Rabiei said the United States deliberately used this phrase in order to create the impression of being “fast and automatic” in reinstating the sanctions.

He said the wording of the above-said resolution contains “the revival of the provisions of cancelled resolutions” which requires a long, precise process aimed at preserving, and not destroying the JCPOA.

“The United States’ unlawful action has faced firm opposition by the international community,” he said in his Tuesday press conference.

“Except the US itself, all countries believe Washington has no right or authority to revive the provisions of former resolutions,” he said.

“Of course, the ‘snapback mechanism’ is a journalistic term which the Americans devised to falsely create the impression that previous resolutions would be reinstated automatically and rapidly, but that’s not true,” he noted.

The spokesman noted that Washington’s bullying will get nowhere.

“The US has withdrawn from the JCPOA. So, it has not right to resort to the mechanism envisioned for the settlement of disputes,” he underlined.

“Therefore, the US move is null and void, and lacks any legal effect,” he said.
