Iran’s security chief in Azerbaijan for high-level talks

Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council Ali Shamkhani

The top security official arrived at the Baku airport on Friday and was welcomed by his opposite number, Secretary of the Security Council of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ramil Usubov.

Shamkhani is also scheduled to sit down for talks with Azeri President Ilham Aliyev during the trip, which is part of the senior official’s visits to the Caucasus region.

The senior Iranian and Azeri officials will exchange views on ways to promote bilateral cooperation and implement previously signed agreements between the two sides.

They will also discuss the latest developments unfolding in the region and the world.

The visit follows Shamkani’s trip to Armenia last week, where he met with his Armenian counterpart as well as Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.

Iran: Swedish court verdict about jailed Iranian, political statement, illegal, basically unacceptable

Iranians rally against desecration of Quran in Sweden

Nasser Kanaani said on Thrursday the Islamic Republic strongly condemns the “political statement.”

Kanaani said Iran strongly condemns this political statement that entails baseless and false allegations against the Islamic Republic and its Judiciary and sentences Mr. Nouri to life imprisonment.

He added that what was read on Thursday during the announcement of the verdict showed that Sweden’s judicial system practically supports and promotes terrorism instead of responding to the Iranian people about allowing a terrorist group to be active in the country and about violating its international responsibility to objectively fight against terrorism.

Kanaani went on to stress that it’s completely obvious for Iran that the case of Mr. Nouri was only a pretext for a political move that is devoid of any genuine proof and lacks any legal basis.

The Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman said, “We are not surprised by the depth of the hypocrite terror group whose history is filled with crimes and betrayal of the Iranian people and even the Iraqi people during the dark era of Saddam’s dictatorship, but we deeply regret that Sweden, in contravention of good relations between the two countries, spent huge sums of money to give in to the heinous goals of the hypocrites’ propaganda machine, put its judicial system at the service of the criminal objectives of the group and practically justified terrorism”.

Kanaani said the rabble-rousing by the MEK in Stockholm today and the terror group and anti-Iran media’s focus and pressures near the court where the verdict was issued show that they were bent on imposing their desired outcome of the case on the court.

He said, “Regrettably, the Swedish judicial system gave them their desired outcome”.
He noted that Mr. Nouri was detained upon arrival in the Stockholm airport by the Swedish police 2.5 years ago following a deceptive scenario that had been pre-planned by the MEK as clearly admitted by the terrorist group.

Kanaani also said, “Therefore, basically, the grounds on which he was apprehended by relevant Swedish authorities were questionable”.

He went on to say that Mr. Nouri was deprived of his most basic human rights during the 30 months that he was held in solitary confinement and he was mistreated systematically including beatings by prison guards.

Kanaani said due to restrictions placed on him, including his lack of access to a doctor, Mr. Nouri failed to completely read the indictment issued by the prosecutor.

Kanaani maintained, “Therefore, the way Mr. Nouri was treated and the restrictions imposed on him are gross examples of rights violations by the self-styled defenders of human rights”.

The Foreign Ministry spokesman went on to say that at the court, Mr. Nouri was put on trial illegally based on lying, framing and false witness creating by the MEK and under heavy psychological pressures and false portrayals by the terror group.

Kanaani said the MEK announced the verdict before it was issued by the court itself, and they, as we know the group, used all possible means to impose the ruling on the court.

He stressed that Swedish judicial officials unfortunately ceded the platform to the MEK completely during the trial despite its claim that it issues verdicts independently.

He added that the Swedish court even did not let Mr. Nouri introduce witnesses to the court to defend himself.

Meanwhile, Kanaani said the court, in its 27th session, established a direct video link with the MEK’s base in Albania in coordination with the Albanian prosecutor’s office and handed the members of the terrorist group a tremendous opportunity.

He added that, during the hearing of the case, the Swedish judicial system gave Mr. Nouri’s public defenders only a few days to prepare their defense, which was too short and was unfair compared with the time the plaintiffs had been given to lodge a lawsuit.

The Iranian foreign ministry spokesman underscored at the end that given the above points, Iran totally rejects the provisions of the Swedish court statement including the illegal court verdict and considers them as being basically unacceptable and questionable.

Kanaani conveyed Iran’s strong protest to Sweden over the court verdict which lacks any legal basis and validity.

He said the Islamic Republic holds Sweden responsible for the damage caused to bilateral ties because of the trial.

Swedish court gives life sentence to Iranian national Hamid Nouri

Hamid Nouri

The Swedish court issued the verdict after 93 trial sessions in which 50 people attended as plaintiffs and witnesses.

They were all members of the Mojahedin-e-Khalq terrorist group or their relatives.

In the last session of the court, Nouri’s lawyers questioned the court’s jurisdiction over the case and said the trial was political and was meant to condemn the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Earlier, the Iranian Judiciary’s Deputy Chief for International Affairs Kazem Gharibabadi demanded Sweden immediately release Nouri.

He made the demand in a letter to the UN high commissioner for human rights. Nouri denies all the charges against him during his trial, saying those who set him up in the case are terrorists.

He has been held mostly in solitary confinement after his arrest in 2019 in Sweden.

The Mojahedin-e-Khalq terrorist group is responsible for the deaths of thousands of ordinary people in terror attacks in Iran after the 1979 Islamic Revolution.

The group was blacklisted as a terrorist organization by the US for decades but was delisted under former president Barack Obama in order to pressure Iran.

Iran: US staunch supporter of Israel as world’s number one child-killer

Iranian Foreign Minister Spokesman Nasser Kanaani

Nasser Kanaani said in a tweet, “US National Security Advisor (Jake) Sullivan travelled to Tel Aviv along with (US President Joe) Biden to reaffirm Washington’s unconditional support for a child-killer regime.”

Kanaani also posted a picture of the front page of a New York Times issue that in May published the pictures of all the Palestinian children killed in attacks by the Zionist regime in its latest 11-day war on the Gaza Strip.

The caption on top of the picture read, “They Were Just Children.”

Kanaani further hit back at Sullivan over his claim that Iran supports the killing of Ukrainians.

The Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman said lying is a “profitable sell” among US politicians.

Kanaani further noted that the US only distorts truth to achieve its heinous goals. His comments come after Biden described himself as a “Zionist” during his visit to Israel.

The US is the staunchest ally of the Israeli regime in the world. Washington has shielded Tel Aviv at the UN Security Council by using its veto power many times in the past.

Iran Covid: Daily caseload soaring

COVID in Iran

Iranian health ministry figures on Thursday showed that 5,234 people had tested positive for the Coronavirus in the previous 24 hours, including 645 hospitalizations.

The daily death toll from Covid in the past 24 hours is 8.

The downward trend in daily deaths has largely held in recent months. But the jump in the number of new cases has caused worries among both officials and people.

Authorities have urged all people to quickly get their booster shots of Covid vaccine. People have taken the advice and vaccination centers are once again packed with those who want to receive their boosters.

The number of vaccine shots so far administered in Iran is 150,951,872. Over 28 million people are triple-vaxxed.

This is while officials say the triple-vaxxed citizens need to get their fourth shot six months after their third jabs.

The Iranian government says the nation can avert a new wave of the Coronavirus if people observe health protocols like wearing masks in all public places.

According to the official figures, Covid has so far killed 141,464 people in Iran.

Iran says ready to help Syria sue aggressors at intl. courts

Syria's Bashar Assad

In a meeting with visiting Syrian Minister of Local Administration and Environment Hussein Jamil Makhlouf on Wednesday in the Iranian capital Tehran, Iranian Interior Minister Ahmad Vahidi said the Syrian government and nation are in an unequal war waged by the world’s dominant powers and the terrorists are committing crimes with the support of the interventionist powers.

Vahidi said, “Western countries view human rights as a tool, and today, with the support of these countries, public security and industrial and agricultural infrastructure have been destroyed.”

He deplored Israel’s recent attacks on Syrian airports and ports, and denounced the international community’s silence in the face of the attacks.

Meanwhile, the Syrian minister said Iran’s support for Syria in the fight against terrorists and Syria’s support for Iran in the Iraqi-imposed war in the ‘80s indicate the deep and strategic relations between the two countries.

Makhlouf called for further strengthening the bilateral ties in various fields, including in urban and environmental management, through sharing experiences.

The Syrian minister arrived in the Iranian capital on Sunday at the head of a delegation to hold talks with Iranian officials and take part in a conference on environmental issues.

Biden’s tour of region insignificant to us: Iran MP

US President Joe Biden in Israel

“In the previous years, too, US presidents had made some visits to Tel Aviv and Saudi Arabia,” said Abbas Golroo, a member of the National Security and Foreign Policy Commission of the Parliament.

“Today, the Islamic Republic of Iran’s might and security have certain components which make us not have any concerns over such visits,” the MP explained.

“We just see it as a regional trip by a president,” he noted.

Elsewhere in his remarks, the lawmaker touched upon talks in Vienna over the lifting of sanctions on Iran and the need for signatories to the 2015 Iran nuclear deal, JCPOA, to return to their obligations under the agreement.

“The outstanding issues are important,” he said.

“The key point is that the US withdrawal from the JCPOA and their breach of promises not only did not dissuade the Islamic Republic of Iran from pursuing its rights, but also resulted in Iran multiplying its nuclear achievements, and the Europeans should accept this,” the legislator added.

He said any foot-dragging and failure to comply with their commitments can be counterproductive for them.

The MP also touched upon Tehran-Riyadh relations, saying “It wouldn’t be possible to move toward stability and tranquility in the region unless through cooperation by two important countries in the Muslim world.”

“I hope Iran and Saudi Arabia will be able to promote their relations, and if this happens, we will witness positive developments in the region,” said the parliamentarian.

Nasrallah says Biden to push Saudis for increasing oil production

Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah

“Biden primarily came to persuade the Persian Gulf countries to produce and export more oil and gas,” he noted in a speech on the occasion of the outbreak of the 2006 war between Hezbollah and Israel.

Nasrallah added the United States is waging a war against Russia in Ukraine and has dragged with it all the countries of Europe which are beginning to suffer from it.

“The United States cannot allow Russia to be victorious. Today, their first objective is to ensure an alternative to Russian oil and gas in Europe,” he continued.

Biden, Nasrallah said, is also in the region to ensure that the United States stands alongside Israel and its project of normalization with the Persian Gulf countries. “He has nothing to offer the Palestinian people.”

The Hezbollah secretary general added a lot of hope and illusions are built around this visit, but the United States of today is not the same as it was in 2003 and 2006.

“Elderly President Biden, by his age and his gestures, is an image of an aging America,” Nasrallah noted.

He was speaking for the first time since the dispatch of drones to the area of the Karish field, which Israel claims is in its exclusive economic zone, but Lebanon contests it.

Resistance, Nasrallah said, is the only force Lebanon has to obtain its right to oil and gas. “The capacities of the resistance today are unprecedented, the fighting spirit is higher than ever,” he said.

“We have various capacities on earth, sea and air, and all these options are open,” Nasrallah added.

Israel is unable to conduct land operations against Lebanon, he said, adding the regime has pinned its only hope on airstrikes.

Nasrallah addressed Israeli minister of military affairs Benny Gantz, saying “You’re threatening Lebanon while your army has failed to advance a few meters in the besieged Gaza.”

“Your threat to invade Beirut, Sidon and Tyre is trivial,” he said.

According to the Hezbollah chief, the only way to save Lebanese is to extract oil and gas, adding there is a golden opportunity for the country.

Nasrallah added if Lebanon is not allowed to extract oil and gas from maritime fields bordering occupied Palestinian fields, “no one will be”.

“If you want to get to a formula where this country is barred from taking advantage (of these fields), then no one will be allowed to extract gas or oil and no one will be able to sell gas or oil,” he said.

Nasrallah added he did not consider Amos Hochstein, the US envoy in charge of indirect negotiations between Lebanon and Israel, as a mediator, “but rather as a party that works in the interests of Israel and put pressure on the Lebanese side”.

The US, he also noted, has virtually launched a war in Ukraine against Russia, and is trying to curb Russia’s revenues from oil and gas exports.

Nasrallah also advised Biden to end the war on Yemen and give the Yemenis the chance to reach a political solution instead of extending the truce.

The Hezbollah chief further said that the Saudi-UAE-led coalition is fighting Yemen on behalf of the United States.

“All the Lebanese agree that the only way to address the national economic crisis is extracting and selling the maritime gas,” he added.

Iranian daily: Dealing with flimsy hijab shouldn’t lead to social disunity

Hijab Iran

The warning came after some video footage emerged showing radical individuals cracking down on women who do not wear a decent hijab.

In reaction to the harsh measures, Etela’at joined the chorus of condemnations, saying the arbitrary move by “autonomous groups who consider themselves above the law” and deal with women who infringe upon the law with their “bad hijab” would eventually exclude the women from society.

The developments take place as Iran designated July 12 as Hijab and Chastity Day.

The newspaper raised the alarm at heightened provocative moves by “the US State Department’s mercenaries” who string along protest campaigns against hijab, saying failure to take proper and on-time measures would lead to deep chasms within society.

The daily also noted that during the deposed Pahlavi monarch’s rule in the ‘70s, the Iranian society was dichotomized among those who observed and those who ignored the Islamic dress code, which drove a wedge among people.

Etela’at concluded the impulsive measures should be harnessed or history will repeat itself.

Iran’s Raisi rejects any arbitrary action to enforce Islamic dress code

Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi

Raisi on Wednesday stressed the need for the enforcement of the “Hijab and Chastity Law,” which was introduced by the Supreme Council of the Cultural Revolution in 2005.

He added that the criteria for action in this regard are laws and Islamic teachings, rejecting any arbitrary action or measures that may be taken outside the country’s legal framework.

The president emphasized the need for “explanatory and persuasive” measures on the issue of chastity and hijab in the society, saying, “Today, the majority of women and girls in our society are bound to wear the hijab. They are chaste and should be thanked.”

He described Iran as a religious society that is willing to observe the rules of Islam, saying that government institutions should take steps on that direction while observing the regulations and standards.

Earlier this month, the president ordered the Supreme Council of the Cultural Revolution to enforce the hijab law.

He warned that enemies of Iran and Islam were using global media outlets and social media platforms to “spread corruption and target cultural, religious principles” in the Muslim society.
