FM Zarif to Leave Iran for South Africa on Saturday

Iran's Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif will leave Tehran for South Africa’s Pretoria on Saturday night at the head of a political-economic delegation, Iranian foreign ministry spokesman said.

According to Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Qassemi, Zarif will make the trip to Pretoria at the invitation of South African Minister of International Relations and Cooperation Maite Nkoana-Mashabane.

The Iranian top diplomat plans to hold separate meetings with Nkoana-Mashabane, South African President Jacob Zuma, and Finance Minister Malusi Gigaba.

“During the Iranian foreign minister’s stay, the 13th meeting of Iran-South Africa Joint Commission will be held,” Qassemi noted, adding that the officials taking part in the meeting will discuss ways to implement the agreements earlier reached between Tehran and Pretoria.

He further noted that Zarif will be accompanied by a delegation of businesspeople and managers of private and public companies working in various fields including banking, industrial, financial, and trade sectors.

These Iranian businesspeople and their South African counterparts will discuss economic issues, investment, and business in the form of a joint trade council, Qassemi added.
