IRGC to Build 5,500 Residential Units Each Year to Fight Deprivation: Commander

Speaking in a ceremony in a village in Khuzestan Province, southwest Iran, to start a nationwide project for constructing over 20,000 residential units, General Jafari explained that, according to the plan, more than 5,500 units will be built each year for deprived people in Iran.

“This is a joint project carried out by the IRGC, the Basij Organization [voluntary forces] and the Imam Khomeini Relief Foundation (IKRF),” he noted.

“The units will be delivered to the people of deprived regions and those who receive aid from the IKRF,” General Jafari went on to say.

These houses will be constructed at lower costs, thanks to the efforts of the Basij forces, he noted, describing the project as a “Revolutionary Gift” to underprivileged people.

The project will be completed in one year, and the construction wing of the Basij will be responsible for building the units across the country, the IRGC commander added.

16 Foreign Trade Delegations to Iran in Last 3 Months: Nobakht

Speaking in a press conference, Nobakht said three presidents, five prime ministers and three parliamentary speakers have visited the country in the past three months, aiming at expanding mutual relations and making investments in the Islamic Republic.

Commenting on the ongoing visit to Tehran by the South Korean President Park Geun-hye, Nobakht said the visiting Korean delegation is busy negotiating and signing cooperation agreements and Memoranda of Understanding with Iranian officials. Heading a 230-member delegation, Park arrived in Tehran on Sunday.

She was welcomed at Mehrabad Interantional Airport by the Minister of Industries, Mines and Trade, Mohammad-Reza Nematzadeh. This is the first visit to Tehran by a South Korean President in decades.

Culture Minister Asks Justice Ministry to Help Protect Copyright Law

He made the remarks at the Sixth Seminar of Art, Literary and Relevant Rights Ownership, held at the National Library and Archives of Iran (NLAI) on Monday.

“If the Ministry of Justice does not cooperate with us, we cannot protect copyright,” Jannati said.

“However, if the regulations are observed properly in the country, and other public organizations cooperate with us, we can protect the legal rights of the producers,” he explained.

“This seminar is held annually to protect art and literary works in today’s virtual world. We have talked many times about the legal rights of the producers of art and literary works.

“We are still having problems with illegal publication of books, films and music albums. An artwork is like the child of the creator, and when their child is stolen, that creator would lack the motivation to continue.”

He next explained that a bill to join the Universal Copyright Convention had been finalized by the Ministry of Culture in 2012, and has been submitted for discussion in the cabinet. It currently awaits final approval.

“The bill has been prepared based on universal conventions so that Iran can join the Berne Convention in the future,” he explained.

He hoped that by approving the bill, Iran can become a member of international organizations to help protect the legal rights of creators.

Minister of Justice Mostafa Purmohammadi said that the increasing number of visits from world officials indicates that they have found the atmosphere of the country to be favourable.

“As we are helping producers, we need to help and protect artists and writers. Those individuals who are doing research need serious help. They need to make use of their products and they should own the rights.

“If we do not provide them such assistance, they will publish their works outside the country”, he added.

Hafez; Inspiration for German Artist Paintings

German Artist Displays Hafez-Inspired Paintings in Shiraz

Entitled “Tribute to Hafez”, the paintings were unveiled at the poet’s mausoleum in Shiraz, but they are going to be transferred to an art gallery in Shiraz.

“The paintings are inspired by the sonnets of Hafez, and will be displayed to show the artist’s two-year project on works inspired by Hafez,” Tehran Times quoted the director of Iran’s Office for Visual Arts, Majid Mollanoruzi, as saying at a press conference on April 28.

 

The 82-year-old Uecker is a member of the ZERO movement; best known for his signature use of nails arranged into tactile, sculptural paintings.

His works can be seen in collections and at large fairs around the world.

Rouhani Opens Tehran Int’l Book Fair

Minister of Culture Ali Jannati and Tehran Mayor Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf, as well as a number of publishers, media members and country’s officials were present at the opening ceremony.

Tehran International Book Fair is set to display domestic and foreign books from May 4 for 11 days.

This year, the book fair has chosen ‘Tomorrow Is Too Late to Read’ as the motto for its 29th edition.

Park Geun-hye: N Korea Must Follow Iran’s Strategy to Join International Community

Making remarks during a joint news conference with Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani, Park Geun-hye said on Monday that she called for Iran’s cooperation in the faithful enforcement of UN sanctions resolutions against North Korea that were imposed after Pyongyang carried out its fourth nuclear test and a long-range rocket launch earlier this year.

Park and Rouhani observed the signing of 20 out of 66 MOUs after their meeting, the first meeting between the leaders of the two countries since the establishment of bilateral diplomatic relations in 1962.

Cheong Wa Dae, from South Korea’s presidential office, described the MOUs as major economic accomplishments.

An Chong-bum, senior presidential secretary for economic affairs, said the MOUs could help South Korea boost bilateral trade.

The trade volume between Korea and Iran stood at $6.1bn in 2015, compared with $17.4bn in 2011.

Iran, which has 80 million people, has emerged as a promising market as it is pushing to rebuild an economy and modernize railways and other major infrastructure following the lifting of international sanctions earlier this year.

The UN lifted sanctions on Iran in a follow-up to a nuclear deal reached with the United States and five world powers over Tehran’s disputed nuclear program.

More than 230 South Korean business executives and leaders have accompanied the president on her state visit to the Islamic Republic to explore new business opportunities.

A South Korean company signed a preliminary deal with its Iranian counterpart worth $5.3bn to build a 541km-long track bed for a railway.

Cheong Wa Dae said the preliminary deal could boost the chance of inking a formal deal further down the line.

The MOUs also include a $10bn project by a South Korean consortium to build facilities to produce heavy oil in the southern Iranian port city of Bandar Jask.

Iran and France Hold Political Discussions

This first round of political talks, launched on Monday, was held at the level of deputy foreign ministers.

Iran was represented by Deputy Foreign Minister for American and European Affairs Majid Takht Ravanchi, while France sent Christian Masset, Secretary General of the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Development.

During the talks, Takht Ravanchi voiced Iran’s readiness to cooperate with France in diverse fields of foreign policy, and on regional issues.

He also pointed to the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), a lasting nuclear deal between Iran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany), calling on the other side to honour commitments to the accord to see its tangible results.

For his part, the visiting French diplomat said France favours enhanced relations with Iran, given its rich history and regional influence.

Referring to France’s familiarity with Iran’s views on the regional crises, Masset stressed the need for cooperation between Paris and Tehran to tackle regional problems, such as the fight against terrorism.

According to an agreement signed in January, the Foreign Ministries of Iran and France are scheduled to hold regular political negotiations.

Senior Official Hopes for Promotion of Urban Tourism

The International Conference on Urban Economy is organized by (IUESA). The event is to be held in Tehran on May 19 with the participation of a large number of prominent Iranian and foreign figures.

“Cities are both sources and destinations of tourism,” Zarandi said, adding that the share of urban tourism from international tourism is increasing.

“City managers are gradually moving towards the improvement of urban tourism infrastructure due to its revenue attractions,” said the official.

Emphasizing that tourism is considered as one of the most profitable industries in the world, Zarandi further noted the total number of tourists globally were 20 million people in 1950, 438m in 1980, 880m in 2012, and more than one billion in 2012. It is estimated that this total will reach 1.6bn people by 2020.

The official hoped a process can be defined so that city management can take advantage of tourism revenues.

Mehriz to Host International Astronomy Conference

The conference will be held to mark the 400th Anniversary of the Transition Theory, first introduced by Galileo, Rastegari told IRNA on May 2.
He said that the event will be held in cooperation with the Astronomical Society of Iran, Yazd University and Pardis University of Mehriz.

The conference will be held with attendance from domestic and international astronomy professors from May 8-9 in Pardis University of Mehriz.

Rastegari explained that there are two higher educational centers in Mehriz, in which over 2,000 male and female students study. Mehriz town is located 30km from Yazd.
