Commander Says Iran Tests 2000km-Range Ballistic Missile

“Two weeks ago, we test-fired a missile with a range of 2000 kilometres and a margin of error of eight metres,” Abdollahi said at a scientific conference in Tehran on Monday, adding that this margin means that the missile has an error rate of zero.

The commander refused to provide further details of the missile or its name.

He further emphasized that the headquarters of the chief of staff of the Iranian Armed Forces has allocated 10% of its defence budget to research projects aimed at strengthening defensive force.

Iranian officials have repeatedly underscored that the country will not hesitate to strengthen its military capabilities, including its missile power, which are entirely for defence, and that Iran’s defence capabilities will be never subject to negotiations.

In March, the IRGC test-fired two types of Qadr ballistic missiles during large-scale drills, codenamed “Might of Velayat”.

The two ballistic missiles, Qadr-H and Qadr-F, were launched from the heights of East Alborz Mountains, north of Iran, and hit targets on the Makran coast, in the southeast of the country.

Takfiris to Pay Dearly for Khan Touman Attack: Iran’s Rezaei

In a post on his Instagram page, Rezaei, himself a major general of the IRGC, vowed a harsh response to the attack against Iranian military advisors in Khan Touman.

He also hammered Saudi Arabia and Turkey for providing military support for the Takfiri militants and abusing the ceasefire declared in the region to conduct a surprise raid against the Syrian village, killing Syrian forces and Iranian advisers.

Rezaei also paid tribute to the “heroes” from Iran’s northern province of Mazandaran who were killed in the attack, saying their courage evoked memories of the eight-year Iran-Iraq war.

13 IRGC military advisers were killed and 21 others wounded in Khan Touman, in an attack by Takfiri terrorists, the IRGC said in a statement.

Iran, a close ally of Syria, has been supporting the legitimate Syrian government in the fight against terrorists. Tehran has made it clear that its assistance to Syria is confined to consultation and advisory help.

Syria has been mired in a civil war since 2011, with government forces fighting an assortment of militant groups, including Daesh (ISIS).

Iran Facing No Major Problem in Selling Oil: Official

Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of an oil exhibition in Tehran on May 8, Amir Hossein Zamaninia said that, based on marketing management principles, Iran will not face considerable problems in selling its oil, given plans for a 200,000 bpd increase in crude production within the next months.

He also noted that negotiations with foreign companies are seriously underway for the sale of oil.

The comments came after President Hassan Rouhani said on Saturday that Iran’s exports of oil will be soon equal to the pre-sanctions levels.

A host of Western sanctions against Tehran had caused Iran’s crude production to drop by about 1m bpd in recent years.

However, the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), a lasting nuclear deal between Iran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany), terminated all nuclear-related sanctions on Iran when it took effect on January 16.

Before the sanctions were lifted, Iran said that it had made the necessary preparations to boost its oil production capacity to pre-sanctions levels.

New Pahlavani Wrestling Federation Appoints Iranian as Caretaker, Tehran as HQ

Rezaei was appointed to the post at the first meeting of the International Pahlavani Wrestling Federation’s board of directors, which was held in the Turkish city of Istanbul on May 8.

He will remain in his post until the next congress of the body is held in the Belarusian capital, Minsk, in Oct 2016.

As per the decision made by International Pahlavani Wrestling Federation’s board of directors, Tehran was selected as the headquarters of the federation.

On May 3, 2016, the International Pahlavani Wrestling Federation started its operation as the governing body responsible for the organization of major international tournaments of the sport. The federation was established following United World Wrestling’s green light, as well as strenuous efforts made by the Islamic Republic of Iran Wrestling Federation (IRIWF) and a number of foreign federations in holding international Pahlavani wrestling tournaments in 2015 and 2016.

Pahlavani wrestling can trace its lineage back to ancient Persia, and was originally used to train warriors. It combines martial arts and wrestling techniques, calisthenics, strength training and epic music.

The two competitors try to outmanoeuvre each other by throwing their opponent over their shoulder. The wrestler is allowed to grip his opponent’s shorts or belt. He can also use his or own legs to off-balance a rival, throwing him to the ground.

The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) has recognized Pahlavani wrestling as being among the world’s longest-running forms of sport.

The Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, made important remarks in a Sunday meeting with a group of Iranian police officials and officers. The Leader’s statements about security, particularly moral security, were widely covered by almost all Iranian media.

The newspapers on Monday also talked about a controversial clip from the TV show Elixir, aired by IRIB, in which the host publicly humiliated the guest. The producers later announced that it was just a show, and the host and the guest were both acting out a scene; however, the criticisms have remained severe.

Many newspapers, particularly reformist ones, have looked at the recent multiple assaults on Mir-Mahmoud Mousavi, a former Iranian diplomat and the brother of detained opposition leader Mir-Hossein Mousavi.

An ongoing conflict in Syria’s Khan Tuman, where a number of Iranian advisors, among others, were killed by terrorists also received much coverage.

Iran-Japan ‘Women in Development’ Symposium Kicks Off

The event was held in the presence of Foreign Minister Deputy for Legal and International Affairs and the former Iranian ambassador to Japan Abbas Araqchi, the Vice President for Women and Family Affairs Shahindokht Mollaverdi, the Japanese ambassador to Iran Koji Haneda and the wife of the Iranian Foreign Minister Maryam Imaniyeh.

Akie Abe, the spouse of the Japanese Prime Minister, was also present at the event.

The event is hosted by the Vice-Presidency for Women and Family Affairs, in cooperation with IPIS and the Sasakawa Peace Foundation.

Iran’s Population Predicted to Reach 84 Million by 2021

In a meeting with members of the incoming parliament, Nobakht said that a proportional plan for economic growth has been under consideration to stabilize the population growth rate at 2.1 and to avert a large-scale aging population in Iran.

A sharp decline in birth rates in recent years has caused concern.

Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei has repeatedly raised the alarm over the negative impacts of an aging population, calling for essential scientific planning to encourage population growth.

Back in June 2015, the Leader sent a proclamation to President Hassan Rouhani outlining the general policies of the country’s 6th 5-year development plan.

The document lays out a grand five-year scheme for Iran’s development from 2016 to 2021.

Comprising 80 provisions, the document has an emphasis on policies to turn the tide of decreasing population.

Saudis Luring Oil Customers Away from Iran: Minister

Ministers Weigh Plans for Iran-Iraq Oil Cooperation

Describing such ploys as being “unusual in the marketing field”, the minister said that Riyadh offers lower prices to customers considering buying Iranian oil.

Despite this fact, Iran has succeeded in doubling its oil exports, he stressed.

Reiterating Iran’s determination to regain its share of the oil market after a lasting nuclear deal with world powers coming into force, Zanganeh said the country aims to “Produce 4m barrels per day of crude oil” without consideration for any other party.

He once again rejected a proposed oil freeze plan by the OPEC members, noting that Saudi Arabia’s “obstinacy” led to the failure of a recent meeting of oil-producers in Qatar’s Doha.

Iran is striving to maximize its oil output after the termination of the sanctions under the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), a lasting nuclear deal between Tehran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany) that took effect in January.

Foreign Ministry Denies Rumours about Presenting New Ambassador to France

Hossein Jaberi Ansari stressed on Sunday May 8 that the Islamic Republic of Iran has not introduced any new ambassador to France and that all the news and speculations around this rumour have been circulated on social media with ‘specific intentions’.

The Iranian diplomat maintained that this type of news falls within the official remit of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and would be released to the media [from this official source], therefore any other speculations are not to be trusted.

Jaberi Ansari called on users active on social media to avoid undermining the country’s foreign policy with their own ‘particular domestic goals’. He suggested that, before circulating such news, people should first confirm it with the Centre for Public and Media Diplomacy, as the official authority within the Foreign Ministry in charge of releasing this type of news.
