2 US Congressmen Oppose Boeing Iran Sale

139212030927069492183504

Selling aircraft and parts to Iran could “threaten” US national security, Representatives Jeb Hensarling and Peter Roskam claimed in a letter to Boeing released on Friday, Reuters reported.

In their letter to Boeing Chief Executive Dennis Muilenburg, the lawmakers asked for “clarification” of the current state of negotiations.

The letter came after Iran’s Minister of Roads and Urban Development Abbas Akhoundi said earlier that the deal with Boeing had been finalized, adding that its details will be announced shortly.

This is while US State Department Spokesman John Kirby said earlier the nuclear deal, also known as JCPOA, allows Western aviation companies to sell “aircraft and associated parts and services” to Iran.

“…I would remind you that under the JCPOA (Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action – a lasting nuclear deal between Iran and world powers) we issued a statement of licensing policy that allowed for case-by-case licensing of individuals and entities seeking to export, re-export, sell, lease, or transfer to Iran commercial passenger aircraft and associated parts and services exclusively for commercial passenger aviation,” Kirby said at a press briefing on Tuesday.

The final technical cooperation document at phase two of the project to develop the capacity for the integrated management of water resources in the Sefidrud basin was sealed and exchanged by the advisor to the Iranian Minister of Energy as well as Masahiro Ueki, Senior Representative of the Japan International Co-operation Agency (JICA).

During the signing ceremony, which was attended by JICA experts and Iranian officials, the parties expressed adherence to all provisions of the proposed document emphasizing on joint cooperation for making the objectives operational and for providing required reports during the project.

The newly-signed document, which is anticipated to become implemented in four years, will pursue the following purposes with active participation of stakeholders from various Iranian provinces:

1- Transparency of sources and uses of water in Sefidrud catchment area based on natural conditions and terms of utilization of water resource development projects

2- Strengthening consensus building skills, planning and designing implementation mechanisms in view of the allocation of water to different regions with priorities of drinking water supply, dams, water resource development projects, groundwater, water quality, water conservation and etc.

3- Decision making and building consensus among various stakeholders on the guidelines provided in the coordinated management of Sefidrud basin water resources.

4- Prioritizing operational issues and programs agreed upon in the catchment area.

Accordingly, the JICA expert delegation, during their stay in Iran, held various technical meetings at departmental and official levels and, while visiting water resources in numerous Iranian provinces located in Sefidrud basin, launched similar meetings with provincial stakeholders aiming to attract opinions as well as to encourage their active participation during the project execution.

Dust Pollution in Western Iran Reaches Dangerous Levels

139406171954182986051864

Air conditions are very dangerous in Lorestan Province, with its air pollution levels having risen to 29 times the limit, Mehrdad Fathi Biranvand, the head of the Environmental Protection Organization of Lorestan, told Tasnim.

He added that current air conditions in all cities in the province have been classified as “unhealthy” and that Kuhdasht, Dowreh Chegeni, Pol Dokhtar and Khorramabad are among the province’s most polluted cities.

The official went on to say that the dust and particles causing the pollution entered Lorestan after passing the western provinces of Khuzestan, Ilam and Kermanshah.

Dust pollution is also blanketing other provinces of the country, including Tehran. Director-General of Tehran Province’s Environmental Protection Department Mohammad Hadi Heydarzadeh told Tasnim earlier that particles polluting the country had been emanating from Saudi Arabia and Iraq.

Iranian residents in the western and southwestern provinces that border Iraq are facing a growing trend in the influx of fine particles, which are generated by drought-hit marshlands in neighbouring countries.

The disruptive dust storms have pushed pollution in those border areas to alarming levels, raising health concerns. The particles, carried by winds, can penetrate the lungs and enter the bloodstream, causing serious diseases such as lung cancer, asthma and heart problems.

Minister Complains of Poor HR Aid Given to Iran for Afghan Refugees

Hashemi

In a meeting with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees Filippo Grandi here on Saturday, Minister of Health and Medical Education Hassan Hashemi said he regretted that world human rights groups have rendered no significant assistance to Iran in aiding Afghan refugees, the free treatment of whom puts a heavy burden on the Iranian government.

He said Iran has been hosting over three million Afghan refugees for three decades now, noting that insecurity and the unstable political situation in Afghanistan have stranded them in an endless homeless condition.

The minister further expressed his regret that the United Nations agencies and human rights organizations have failed to provide proper help to Iran in hosting refugees.

Referring to the ongoing insecurity in Afghanistan, which discourages Afghan refugees from returning to their home country, he said that although one out of three Afghan refugees living in Iran has been registered, the UNHCR still refuses to give services due to them in such areas as healthcare, education and employment.

The UN official hoped he could help Iran in its plan to offer insurance services to Afghan refugees.

A huge explosion in early hours of Friday frightened many people in the Shahran district, west Tehran. The explosion, which was controlled in a few hours, created a 50m-deep hole in the ground, and caused serious damage to surrounding buildings and local infrastructure. The severing of power, water, gas, and communication lines was partly resolved hours after the explosion, which was widely covered by Iranian newspapers.

Another top story was the latest cases of astronomical salaries being leaked in Iranian media. This time, the salaries of doctors and staff at the National Development Fund were revealed, provoking serious criticism from almost all papers.

Newspapers also dedicated their front pages to the ongoing dust pollution in both west and east Iran, which is largely coming from Syrian and Iraqi deserts.

Eurasian Economic Commission: Talks on Free Trade Zone with Iran to be Held in Late June

TCCIMir_en_160618_6515

“We plan talks in Iran at the end of June,” she said, according to the Russian news agency.

The list of goods eligible to enter the free trade zone with Iran is being discussed, she said, adding that this may concern both food and non-food products.

The second round of meetings with Iran regarding the issue of creating a big free trade zone will be held no earlier than mid-July, Nikishina said. “We’re also preparing a big agreement, and have prepared a report. By mid-July we will agree joint findings of the report, and then I will be prepared for a trip to Iran in order to finally accord the document.”

Iran to Export 1st Phase 19 Condensate Consignment Soon

210428_orig

Hamidreza Masoudi said the phase has so far injected over 100 mcm of gas to the national gas network.

Phase 19 is one of a series of projects dubbed as 35-month projects. The platform 19A of the phase was loaded from Khoramshahr Yard for delivery and installation at its designated spot on Thursday.

Masoudi said that installation of the platform will hopefully take 4 months, and once operational, the platform will add 500 mcf/d of gas to the gas field’s gas output.

What’s more, the installation of platform 19C will be finished in the next few weeks, he said, adding it will add 1 billion cubic feet of gas to the field’s output.

He said the phase will produce 1.5 bcf/d of gas once the two platforms are fully operational.

Phase 19 development of South Pars is set to produce 50 mcm/d of sweet gas, 75,000 b/d of gas condensate, 400 tons a day of sulphur, 1.05m tons a year of liquefied petroleum gas and 1m tons a year of ethane.

This development phase was awarded by Pars Oil and Gas Company (POGC) to a Petropars-led consortium of Petropars Limited and Petropars Iran and Iranian Offshore Engineering and Construction Company (IOEC) in June 2010 under an engineering, procurement, construction (EPC) contract.

Petropars Limited and Petropars Iran are responsible for onshore installations and drilling operations.

Iran-Germany Ties Influential for Regional and Global Stability: Zarif

Zarif05

Iran’s Zarif, who was speaking to reporters after his meeting with German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier, thanked the German government and nation for their hospitality and underlined that “Tehran and Berlin enjoy long-lasting and robust relations.”

Noting that Iran, as a modern country possessing high technology could be a key political, economic and trade partner for Germany in the region, Zarif stated that “Iran and Germany hold parallel views on regional peace and security; the economic ties between the two countries will benefit all in the region and the world.”

“Both Iran and Germany consider terrorism a global threat that knows no boundaries and confronting it needs global cooperation,” said Zarif, adding, “Extremism and terrorism need political solutions; military approaches can be only part of the confrontation; what we need is an inclusive approach that includes cultural, economic and social factors to help the ones who feel deprived and isolated. By the same token, we should prevent extremist access to financial, military and human recourses.”

Zarif also emphasized Iran’s willingness to cooperate actively with the EU and Germany on bilateral ties and regional issues, particularly on the crises in Iraq, Syria, Yemen, Bahrain and Lebanon.

During the joint press conference held earlier, Frank-Walter Steinmeier also said that Germany is after strong ties with Iran in all political, economic, cultural and social fields.
