TCCIMir_en_160618_6515

“We plan talks in Iran at the end of June,” she said, according to the Russian news agency.

The list of goods eligible to enter the free trade zone with Iran is being discussed, she said, adding that this may concern both food and non-food products.

The second round of meetings with Iran regarding the issue of creating a big free trade zone will be held no earlier than mid-July, Nikishina said. “We’re also preparing a big agreement, and have prepared a report. By mid-July we will agree joint findings of the report, and then I will be prepared for a trip to Iran in order to finally accord the document.”

Hamidreza Masoudi said the phase has so far injected over 100 mcm of gas to the national gas network.

Phase 19 is one of a series of projects dubbed as 35-month projects. The platform 19A of the phase was loaded from Khoramshahr Yard for delivery and installation at its designated spot on Thursday.

Masoudi said that installation of the platform will hopefully take 4 months, and once operational, the platform will add 500 mcf/d of gas to the gas field’s gas output.

What’s more, the installation of platform 19C will be finished in the next few weeks, he said, adding it will add 1 billion cubic feet of gas to the field’s output.

He said the phase will produce 1.5 bcf/d of gas once the two platforms are fully operational.

Phase 19 development of South Pars is set to produce 50 mcm/d of sweet gas, 75,000 b/d of gas condensate, 400 tons a day of sulphur, 1.05m tons a year of liquefied petroleum gas and 1m tons a year of ethane.

This development phase was awarded by Pars Oil and Gas Company (POGC) to a Petropars-led consortium of Petropars Limited and Petropars Iran and Iranian Offshore Engineering and Construction Company (IOEC) in June 2010 under an engineering, procurement, construction (EPC) contract.

Petropars Limited and Petropars Iran are responsible for onshore installations and drilling operations.

Iran’s Zarif, who was speaking to reporters after his meeting with German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier, thanked the German government and nation for their hospitality and underlined that “Tehran and Berlin enjoy long-lasting and robust relations.”

Noting that Iran, as a modern country possessing high technology could be a key political, economic and trade partner for Germany in the region, Zarif stated that “Iran and Germany hold parallel views on regional peace and security; the economic ties between the two countries will benefit all in the region and the world.”

“Both Iran and Germany consider terrorism a global threat that knows no boundaries and confronting it needs global cooperation,” said Zarif, adding, “Extremism and terrorism need political solutions; military approaches can be only part of the confrontation; what we need is an inclusive approach that includes cultural, economic and social factors to help the ones who feel deprived and isolated. By the same token, we should prevent extremist access to financial, military and human recourses.”

Zarif also emphasized Iran’s willingness to cooperate actively with the EU and Germany on bilateral ties and regional issues, particularly on the crises in Iraq, Syria, Yemen, Bahrain and Lebanon.

During the joint press conference held earlier, Frank-Walter Steinmeier also said that Germany is after strong ties with Iran in all political, economic, cultural and social fields.

A conference on joint trade and investment ventures between Iran and the Emilia-Romagna Region was held on Friday June 17 in the provincial capital city of Bologna.

The event was attended by more than 200 Italian entrepreneurs and businessmen as well as other economic elite from the region, in addition to Iran’s Ambassador to Rome, Jahanbakhsh Mozaffari.

During the conference, Gino Cocchi, Director of the international affairs of Emilia Romagna Industrial committee, underlined the importance of enhancing ties with Iran in view of the country’s gradual return to free trade and foreign investment following the nuclear deal.

He estimated that Italy’s exports to Iran will reach a total of 3bn euros in the coming four years as well as that investment in Iran will experience substantial increases.

Deputy President of Emilia-Romagna Bank Pierre Peju, while referring to the banking problems faced by Iran, said, “We are optimistic about the future and everybody needs to be patient.”

The Iranian ambassador to Rome, for his part, said “Despite all existing problems, the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) is being implemented and all the obstacles on Iran’s establishing ties with the world have been removed following the nuclear deal.”

“The conditions have changed in a way that they are irreversible,” Mozaffari underlined.

The Iranian official went on to emphasize that “the unprecedented interest of Italian investors for being present in Iran indicates that enemies have failed to prevent the execution of the JCPOA.”

In addition to expressing eagerness to make trade and investment in Iran, Italian companies and industries called for attraction of investment from Iran for the realization of joint initiatives.

Dust Storm Suspends Flights at Abadan Airport

Airport authorities in Abadan in southwestern Iran had to cancel flights on Friday June 17 due to the poor visibility caused by increased dust in the air.

Speaking to the Islamic Republic News Agency, an official at Abadan’s Ayatollah Jami International Airport confirmed that a number of flights have been cancelled due to dust pollution.

In addition to flights cancellation, dust storms, overwhelming much of western and southwestern Iran, have also prompted health warnings and resulted in closed schools and offices in some areas. Health officials warned residents with heart and respiratory problems to stay at home.

The storms began last Thursday and the authorities expect the situation to improve in the coming days.

The dust comes from Iraqi and Syrian deserts. Iraq has long suffered periodic, blinding sandstorms, but several years of drought have aggravated the situation there.

Trade between Iran and Russia does not match the level of their political relations and needs to be improved, Mahdi Sanai said in an address to the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) on Thursday June 16.

“We develop serious relations at all levels and in all spheres. The Russian-Iranian relations have strategic nature,” Tass quoted him as saying.

The trade relations between the two countries lag behind the high level of political dialogue, he noted, adding, “We need to work hard to upgrade our trade relations.”

Back in November 2015, Russia’s Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin said Tehran and Moscow are resolved to increase the volume of their trade to $3-4bn over the next 3 years.

In the same month, Russia President Vladimir Putin paid an official visit to Iran, and signed seven agreements and MoUs with his Iranian counterpart to boost mutual cooperation.

Addressing worshippers in Tehran on Friday June 17, Ayatollah Mohammad Emami Kashani harshly decried the loss of Shiite lives in Pakistan, saying a number of Pakistani Shiite clerics have staged sit-ins in reaction to the killings.

“The Pakistani Sunnis and even Christians support Shiites, but the Pakistani government has not shown any reaction,” Ayatollah Emami Kashani stated. He then called on the Islamabad government to “review its policy” of muted response to the Shiite killings.

Targeted killings against Shiite Muslims in Pakistan have drawn international outrage, with rights groups and regional countries expressing concern over the growing deadly violence.

Shiites are seen as a minority group in Pakistan. They make up about a fifth of the country’s population of over 180 million.

Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister for American and European Affairs Majid Takht Ravanchi and Secretary of State at the Swiss Foreign Ministry Yves Rossier met in Bern on Thursday June 16 for a round of Iran-Switzerland political talks.

The periodic meetings are part of a road map the two countries have devised to broaden bilateral relations.

The negotiations involved three working groups discussing bilateral relations, regional developments and mutual cooperation in the fields of law and human rights.

Aside from Takht Ravanchi and Rossier, senior experts from the two sides also held talks on the political and economic ties, regional issues, countering terrorism and Islamophobia, the process of implementation of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) –a nuclear deal between Iran and six world powers – and the ways to promote judicial cooperation.

At the end of the talks, the interlocutors expressed satisfaction with the constructive talks and called for the continuation of such meetings to pave the way for the implementation of agreements between Iran and Switzerland.

Iran Says Boeing Deal “Biggest Ever” with US

Iran says it expects an emerging deal to purchase planes from US aerospace giant Boeing to become the biggest civil trade agreement between the two countries after the 1979 Islamic Revolution.

Asghar Fakhrieh Kashan, Iran’s deputy minister of roads and urban development, has been quoted by the media in Tehran as saying that serious talks are currently underway over the deal, adding that they would lead to “good news” that will be announced within the next two days.

Fakhrieh Kashan added that the details of the deal cannot be disclosed at the current juncture and added that its finalization is still pending certain standard technicalities.

Iran Air – the national flag carrier airline of the Islamic Republic – said in early June that it was discussing what was seen as a “historic aircraft purchase deal” with Boeing. Iran Air CEO Farhad Parvaresh told Reuters that serious talks with Boeing to the same effect are underway, expressing hope that these would lead to an agreement sometime soon.

Reuters added that the volume of the purchase deal with Boeing could be as big as the one that Iran Air sealed with Airbus, another aviation giant, earlier this year. Iran signed a major deal worth $27 billion with Airbus in January to purchase 118 planes from the company.  The deal with Airbus was sealed during a state visit to Paris by Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani.

Apart from Airbus and Boeing, Iran is also negotiating with several other global aviation giants over the purchases of planes including Bombardier and Embraer.

Iran has a fleet of 250 aircraft, of which officials say 90 are grounded due to the economy or missing parts. They also say that 80% of Iran’s aviation fleet will need to be renewed in the next decade and that growth could add even more jets to Iran’s shopping list.

Iran Congratulates Iraq on Liberation of Fallujah

In a message to his Iraqi counterpart Ibrahim al-Jaafari, Zarif called the victory a “manifestation of… divine victory for those who fight for God.”

Fallujah, in the western province of Anbar, is located about 69km (43 miles) west of the capital Baghdad.

On Friday June 17, armed forces raised the Iraqi national flag over the main government compound in Fallujah, symbolizing the recapture of the beleaguered western city from Daesh [ISIS], which had seized the city in January 2014.

The forces met limited resistance from the terrorists, who were fleeing the city, although the extremists used residents as human shields, which slowed the process of liberation.

Zarif also voiced hope that further victories against Takfiri terrorists await the Iraqi nation, insisting that the country maintain their “unity and national integrity” in the process.

Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi also hailed the victory, saying there was no place in his country for the Takfiri terrorists. He said that the liberation of Mosul — Daesh’s de facto capital in Iraq since June 2014 — was very close as it is the Iraqi forces’ “next destination” in their campaign to flush the militants out of the country.

The Iraqi military’s most important victory against the terrorists so far has been their liberation of the central city of Ramadi, Anbar’s provincial capital, last December.

Baghdad said at the time that the army would use Ramadi’s liberation as a “launch pad” to free Mosul.

Abadi has pledged to rid the entire country of Daesh by the end of 2016.
