Iran summons Swiss envoy, warns U.S. following Trump’s provocative remarks

On Sunday, the US President claimed in an interview with NBC that if an agreement is not reached with Iran regarding its nuclear program, “we will attack them and impose sanctions against them.”

In this regard, on the morning of April 11, the Swiss chargé d’affaires, in the absence of the ambassador, was summoned to the Iranian Foreign Ministry by Issa Kameli, Assistant to the Foreign Minister and Director General for the Americas at the ministry.

During the meeting, the Iranian diplomat described Trump’s statements as provocative, contrary to international law and the United Nations Charter, and emphasized that the Islamic Republic of Iran would respond decisively and immediately to any mischief or threat.

The Swiss chargé d’affaires assured that he would promptly convey the matter to the US government.

Trump’s threats coincide with the resumption of the Israeli regime’s provocations in Gaza and Lebanon, despite a ceasefire.

On Monday, during the Eid al-Fitr prayer sermons in Tehran, Ayatollah Khamenei, the Supreme Leader, stated: “If any mischief occurs from outside—which is, of course, unlikely—they will undoubtedly receive a strong counterblow.”

Ayatollah Khamenei also warned that if the enemy, as in some previous years, considers fomenting sedition inside Iran, “the nation, just as in those years, will deliver a firm response to the troublemakers.”

Iran comes down hard on Trump for ‘bombing’ threat

In a post on social media platform X on Monday, Iran’s Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Esmail Baqaei denounced the “open threat of bombing by a Head of State against Iran” as a “shocking affront to the very essence of International Peace and Security,” adding it “violates the United Nations Charter and betrays the safeguard agreements under the International Atomic Energy Agency.”

Baqaei also wrote, “Violence breeds violence, peace begets peace. The US can choose the course…; and concede to CONSEQUENCES…”

Trump, in an interview with NBC News on Sunday, escalated his rhetoric, declaring, “If they don’t make a deal, there will be bombing, the likes of which they have never seen before.”

He also threatened to reimpose harsh secondary sanctions, similar to those enforced during his presidency.

The remarks come after Iran rejected direct talks with Washington, citing ongoing US “maximum pressure” campaign and military threats.

President Massoud Pezeshkian reinforced the stance, stating that while direct talks remain off the table, indirect negotiations could continue.

Araghchi, in a telephone conversation with Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Foreign Minister of the United Arab Emirates, exchanged views on the latest state of bilateral relations as well as regional and international developments.

The foreign ministers of Iran and the UAE emphasized the continuation of consultations and discussions between the two sides to develop bilateral relations and contribute to maintaining peace and stability in the region.

The President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Masoud Pezeshkian, emphasized on Sunday that America’s broken promises have led to a lack of trust, and that it is the behavior of the Americans that determines the continuation of the negotiations.

President Pezeshkian noted that the response of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the letter from the President of the United States was delivered to them through Oman.

He stated that although the topic of direct negotiations between the two sides has been rejected in this response, it has been indicated that the path for indirect negotiations remains open.

Human error, transport company violations confirmed in Kerman deadly bus crash, southern Iran

The accident occurred Sunday evening on the Kerman-Mashhad highway when a bus overturned. Of the 60 passengers onboard, 14 died at the scene, while 46 were injured, according to Kerman’s emergency services.

Mohammad Ali Talebi, the governor of Kerman, extended condolences to the victims’ families and acknowledged “infrastructure shortcomings” in the province’s road network.

However, he stressed that “human error and clear violations by the transport company” were the primary causes, calling for “serious follow-up by judicial and regulatory authorities.”

Rescue teams transferred the injured passengers to a hospital.

The crash has renewed scrutiny over road safety and transport operator compliance in Iran, where aging infrastructure and regulatory lapses frequently contribute to accidents.

He also referenced recent Israeli military acts of aggression in Syria.

Addressing potential internal threats, the Leader asserted that any attempts to foment unrest in Iran would be thwarted by the Iranian nation.

“Should they try to incite sedition as in previous years,” he said, “the Iranian people themselves will respond, just as they have done before.”

Ayatollah Khamenei also commented on recent Quds Day demonstrations on Friday, stating that the massive turnout had sent “clear messages” to the international community about Iran’s stance on Palestinian issues.

In another part of his remarks, Pezeshkian stressed the need to stop the catastrophic crimes of the Zionist regime against Palestine, stating that it is absolutely unacceptable for innocent people to be bombed despite the declaration of a ceasefire, relying on technology; no honorable human being can accept this inhumane behavior.

He also congratulated all Iranians and Muslims around the world on the occasion of Eid al-Fitr, marking the end of the holy month of Ramadan, and expressed hope that the blessings of this month and the Eid would strengthen unity and cohesion among Muslims.
