Iranian-Born Woman Elected to New Zealand Parliament

Born in the Iranian city of Mashhad, Ghahreman left the country with her family when she was 9. She has now become New Zealand’s first refugee lawmaker.

Iranian-born Ghahraman is an Oxford-educated human rights expert who previously worked as a lawyer for the United Nations.

The Green Party received 5.9 per cent of votes from the preliminary results, which granted it seven MPs.

Special votes gave the party an additional list MP.

“I know we’ve got that real core of support in New Zealand, especially being the Green movement, it’s such a part of New Zealand’s identity,” she said on election night.

Las Vegas Massacre Result of US Promotion of Violence Overseas

Political commentator Masoud Yousefi has, in an opinion piece published in the Persian-language Tejarat daily newspaper, criticized Washington’s foreign policy as the American nation is still reeling from a deadly shooting incident in Las Vegas. He believes the violence and conflicts in the Middle East are a result of the United States’ passion for domination.

‌The obvious conclusion which can be drawn from the deadly Las Vegas massacre is that 68-year-old Stephen Paddock’s horrendously killing and wounding 600 people present at a nighttime music festival there was a result of US statesmen’s violence spilling over beyond the country’s borders to other areas, especially the crisis-hit Middle East.

The emergence of groups such the Taliban, ISIS, Jund al-Sham and other big and small groups were a pretext for the US to be present overseas. The numerous wars and much bloodshed which have occurred around the world over the past three or four decades have spilled over to Western societies, including Europe and the US.

Over the past year, several terrorist incidents, explosions and massacres have triggered insecurity and panic in Western countries. The US, which has been seeking to expand its financial and imperialistic domination in the world by promoting violence, has taken a big risk and bet. One cannot and should not regard the Las Vegas shooting as an incident which has nothing to do with US authorities’ domineering and expansionist policies.

Behind Washington’s expansionist strategy lies the powerful lobby of arms building factories which, in order to boost their arms trade and send their weapons to other countries, play a key role in drawing up US officials’ warmongering policies beyond the country’s borders.

Iran to Showcase Technological Achievements at GITEX 2017

 

Iran’s Information Technology Pavilion at GITEX 2017 is open to visitors in an area of 126 square metres, said Mohammad Reza Tala’ee, the head of Information Technology Commission of the Iranian Chamber of Commerce.
Tala’ee noted that the Islamic Republic is taking part in the exhibition with the assistance of the Science and Technology Department of Iranian President’s Office, Innovation and Prosperity Fund, and the Centre for Development of Information Technology and Digital Media of the Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance.
Several knowledge-based firms are presenting their latest achievements in Iran’s pavilion at GITEX 2017 in the following fields of technology:
1) Telecommunications
2) Information and Communications Technology
3) Transportation Technologies
4) Mobile Applications
5) Information Security
6) Project Management Info Systems
7) Software

Speaking in a Farsi interview published by the website of Chamber of Commerce, he said GITEX 2017 will take place in Dubai in an area of over 90,000 square metres with the participation of 4,700 companies from 100 countries.

According to him, GITEX is one of the most important ICT events in the region in which Iran can introduce its production and export potential in the field of ICT. It can also be a good opportunity for the Islamic Republic to export its technology.

“12 companies will display their achievements at Iran’s pavilion,” he said, adding that 29 Iranian start-up companies will also be present at the start-ups section.

This Iranian official pointed out that the start-ups section is going to be held for the second time at GITEX. Last year, only eight Iranian start-up companies were participating, but this time 29 of such companies will represent Iran at the event.

“One of the things we have to do at the international exhibitions is to introduce Iran as an active participant in the ICT field and make the Iranian brands known to the world.”

He also underscored that “we need to pave the ground for the presence of Iranian ICT companies at the international level so that they go beyond the domestic market and win the international markets.”

According to Tala’ee, in the past two years Iranian companies have managed to carry out projects abroad in partnership with some foreign firms.

He believes that the stronger presence of Iranian ICT companies in this exhibition proves the Iranian companies have come to the conclusion that they should be more active at the international events. Accordingly, the number of companies at Iran’s pavilion has increased from 6 to 12. The number of Iranian start-up companies also grew by around 260 percent.

On the sidelines of this event, a conference on Iran and the world’s Information Technology will be held with the participation of Iranian private sector, and the decision-makers of the ICT field next to representatives of leading and world-renowned companies on October 19.

Almost all Iranian newspapers today covered speculations and discussions about the US possible move against Iran nuclear deal. Among the top stories in this regard was US President Donald Trump’s meeting with top American military commanders, where he said the current situation is ‘the calm before the storm’.

While reformist and pro-government papers underline that Iran will be the ultimate winner even if the US withdraws from JCPOA, conservative newspapers say the current situation is a result of Rouhani government’s trust in the US.

Another top story today was the arrest of Mahdi Jahangiri, the brother of First Vice-President Es’haq Jahangiri, who is said to be accused of financial corruption. Armenia Loans out Its Ancient Relics to Iran

Following the visit of Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani to Armenia and sealing of economic and cultural agreements with the Caucasian country, which were signed by the chairman of Iran’s Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Organization and the Armenian Minister of Culture, an exhibition called ‘Iran and Armenia: Memory of a Land’ will be held in Tehran.

According to a Farsi report by ISNA, Director General of the National Museum of Iran Jebraeel Nokandeh said, “On Tuesday, October 3 some historical objects from the collection of works of ancient Armenian culture and civilization arrived in Iran so as to be displayed in an upcoming joint exhibition for three months.”

He added that two representatives from the History Museum of Armenia safely transferred the objects to the National Museum of Iran.

He emphasized that these works belong to the period between 4th millennium BC to the 1st century BC and are going to be put on show in the exhibition which is scheduled to open at the National Museum of Iran on October 17. The exhibition will be open to visitors until January 17.

The exhibition is the second experience in organizing foreign exhibitions at the National Museum of Iran, which focuses on the works of Urartu in the first millennium BC and is referred to as a link between Iranian and Armenian history.

After showcasing the Statues of Penelope, the joint Iranian-Armenian exhibition is the second case of showing foreign works in Iran during the administration of Hassan Rouhani.

In September 2015, three Statues of Penelope loaned out by Italy and the Vatican to Iran were put on display for three months in an exhibition at the National Museum of Iran.

Plane Carrying American Troopers Shot Down in Afghanistan: Taliban

Zabihullah Mujahid, a spokesman for Taliban, declared in a statement that the group has shot down the American aircraft, carrying tens of US military forces to Afghanistan.

“The plane has crashed in Kooh-Safi county in Parwan province, north of the Afghan capital of Kabul,” he added, according to a Farsi report by Al Alam News Network.

The alleged targeting of the US aircraft comes a short while after Bagram base, the biggest US airbase in Afghanistan north of Kabul, was also targeted by a Taliban suicide attacker.

During the attack, at least 20 foreign troopers lost their lives, according to the Taliban spokesman.

Dr Mahdi Fat’hi, in a Farsi interview with IRNA, said, “The mother, 27, gave birth to a child using hypnotherapy which was performed under the supervision of gynecologist, Dr Qodsiyeh Alavi.”

Stressing that the mother and baby are in good condition at the moment, he said, “In this method, the pregnant mother is prepared for labour by telling her that her childbirth would be painless and this process of creating mental imagery starts a month before the labour. While lying on bed, the mom feels herself walking in nature with her child.”

“When uterine contractions begin, hypnosis helps mother in the process of childbirth”, he mentioned.

Fat’hi went on to say that Mashhad is the centre of hypnotherapy in Iran, and so far two babies have been born through hypnosis in Sina and Bentolhoda hospitals of Mashhad.

“Hypnobirthing has been used worldwide as one of the painless delivery methods during the past 30 years and has many benefits,” he stated.

This associate professor of Anesthesiology at Mashhad University of Medical Sciences pointed out that the use of hypnosis in childbirth reduces 80 to 100 percent of normal labour pain.

“The World Health Organization believes that no mother should have pain during childbirth. Painless delivery, not using medication during labour, induction of postpartum analgesia and reduction of the patient’s anxiety are among the benefits of using hypnosis in normal delivery, which has no side effects.”

He stressed that giving delivery using a hypnotic method requires an experienced and well-trained physician and midwife. On the other hand, the patient should choose this method and allow the gynecologist to use it.

Fat’hi said there are around 7,000 hypnosis experts in Iran, including physicians, dentists, midwives, gynecologists, nurses and psychiatrists.

“Of these, 200 are midwives and about 50 are obstetricians and gynecologists.”

Iranian Scientific Society of Clinical Hypnosis was established in 1989 with the approval of the Ministry of the Interior. In 2001, the Ministry of Health and Medical Education also approved the activity of this association in the field of medical and psychological affairs and issued a license for it.

The Iranian Scientific Society of Clinical Hypnosis is based in the city of Mashhad, but it has many branches across the country.

Iran’s Customs Discovers Human Trafficking Case at Northwest Border

According to the customs officials, this is the sixth human trafficking case discovered by customs officers inside trucks this year.

Customs officers stopped a woman and three men who were hiding in the commodities packages and intended to get out of the country illegally, according to a Farsi report by Tasnim.

With the efficient use of advanced control devices and the increase in the number of dogs to detect smuggling of goods, narcotics and human beings, customs officers have discovered 480 human trafficking cases in 2016, 50 cases of which happened at Bazargan Customs.

Accordingly, the number of x-ray devices has tripled in recent years. In 2016, ten dogs were purchased and trained and have been deployed in the customs stations across the country.

According to the World Customs Organization’s assessments, Iran’s Customs ranks second in the fight against smuggling and ranks first in the fight against drug trafficking.

Benefits of Iran Nuclear Deal Irreversible: Rouhani

Speaking in a ceremony at the University of Tehran on Saturday, Rouhani said neither Trump nor even ten other people like him cannot break the nuclear deal known as JCPOA.

“Today, if the United States violates the JCPOA, the whole world condemns Washington, not Tehran,” Rouhani stressed, recalling that during the nuclear talks, the Islamic Republic proved its political power to the world.

He said, however, critics of the deal inside the country say why you trusted the United States and signed the agreement.

Rouhani referred to a verse from the Holy Quran on Prophet Mohammed’s (PBUH) deals with the infidels which were breached by them for many times, and said the Prophet kept making the deals despite their breaches of their promises.

“The party who makes a deal will not lose anything; rather the one who breaches a deal loses face and dignity,” he added.

President Rouhani’s comments came as the US media say President Trump is likely to refuse to certify Iran’s compliance with the nuclear deal within the coming days, allowing the Congress to re-impose sanctions.

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has repeatedly confirmed Iran’s commitment to the deal. The European Union and Russia also insist that the nuclear agreement must be preserved and implemented.

12 Iranian Medical Universities among World’s Top One Percent

Mohammad Javad Dehqani said the universities of medical sciences in Tehran, Mashhad, Shiraz, Isfahan, Tabriz, Kerman, Mazandaran, Zahedan, Kurdistan as well as Iran University of Medical Sciences, Baqiyatallah University of Medical Sciences and Pasteur Institute of Iran have ranked among top one percent universities of medical sciences in the world.

The world’s top one percent universities are picked up every two months based on the number of their citations, quality of their research and studies as well as their produced medical documents, Dehqan was quoted as saying by the Mehr New Agency.

“The universities are ranked by ISI Essential Science Indicators,” Dehqan added.

The head of the Islamic World Science Citation Centre went on saying the top universities are ranked in 22 fields.

“The lists include the top 100 scientific centres in each field which either have been cited the most by scientific centres across the globe or have the highest number of citations or produced documents.”

“Mashhad University of Medical Sciences ranks among top universities of the Islamic world in pharmacology and toxicology field in terms of the number of top research and studies,” he said.

“This means that the university in Mashhad has had the highest number of top research studies among the universities of the Islamic world in these fields.”

He went on saying the university has ranked 7 and 4 respectively among the universities of the Islamic world in pharmacology and toxicology fields in terms of the produced medical documents and the number of citations. “The ranking reveals the scientific talent of the university’s staff,” he noted.

Dehqan said in the clinical medicine field, Tehran University of Medical Sciences has been ranked first among all universities across the Islamic world in terms of citations and produced documents.

“The high number of citations of the university along with its high-quality research and studies have made it the number-one scientific centre in the Islamic world in clinical medicine field,” he added.

According to Dehqan, the university is ranked fourth in terms of the number of top research and studies.
