Naz Island, One of the Seven Wonders of Iran’s Qeshm Island

One of Qeshm Island's Seven Wonders - Iran

Some 22 km from Qeshm, you reach Naz Island; the only place you can wade on foot or by car one km into the Persian Gulf waters. It is one of the key tourist attractions of Qeshm Island.

Naz Island is around three hectares in area. It does not have a sandy beach, but is surrounded by rocky walls which are five to ten meters in height. The island’s surface is completely flat. When the tide ebbs or the water flows outward from the land, a strip of land temporarily connects the island to Qeshm’s coasts.

This island is one of the areas favored by tourists visiting Qeshm Island.

Iran Unveils Power, Heat-Generating Microturbine

Iran Unveils Power, Heat-Generating Microturbine

The plan was first developed by a knowledge-based company. The synchronous electricity and heat generating microturbine has undergone testing and standardisation in the form of a national project.

Co-generation of electricity and heat with microturbine dubbed Boiler Green Turbo (TGB) has been offered in the form of a national macro plan which is supported by Vice Presidency for Science and Technology.

Only seven countries own the technology. Native microturbine production will also activate other industries that utilise existing technological and manufacturing capacities in the country to develop technological and knowledge-based products and services.

In addition to generating heat, it also supplies some of the electricity needed for residential or industrial units. The system is operated by a small turbine generator (gas microturbine) controlled by a central computer.

Endangered by Israel Airstrike, Tehran-Damascus Flight Lands in Russian Airbase

Defense Ministry spokesman Major General Igor Konashenkov said Friday the civil Airbus-320 was heading to Damascus from the Iranian capital early Thursday when it was forced to divert its route as the Syrian capital’s air defenses were intercepting Israeli missiles.

The plane made an emergency landing in the Hmeymim air base in Syria’s western coastal province of Latakia.

“Only due to timely actions of the Damascus airport dispatchers and the efficient operation of the automated air traffic control system, the Airbus-320 managed to… successfully land at the closest alternative airfield,” Konashenkov said.

Israel using passenger jets as shields’

The spokesman stressed that Israel was well aware of civilian flights around Damascus and that such missions demonstrated the regime’s reckless disregard for human lives.

“The Israeli general staff’s use of passenger jets as a cover for its military operations or as a shield from Syrian missile system fire is becoming a typical trait of Israeli air force,” he said.

Russia had previously warned that Israeli airstrikes against Damascus were endangering civilian jets.

Lebanese officials have also stated that Israeli jets illegally conducting operations against Syria from the country’s airspace pose a danger to civilian aircraft in Lebanon.

In 2018, Syrian air defenses mistakenly shot down a Russian Ilyushin Il-20 reconnaissance plane after it was similarly used as a cover by Israeli warplanes, killing 15 people on board.

Syria: Saraqib fully liberated

The Israeli airstrikes took place as Syrian troops were entering the terrorist-controlled town of Saraqib, which lies at the crossroads of two key highways in the Idlib province, the last major terrorist bastion in Syria.

The town has currently been fully liberated by Syrian forces.

Damascus has highlighted that the Israeli airstrike on Thursday happened at the same time the Turkish military was deploying a military caravan in Idlib to “protect the terrorists” and halt the Syrian military advance in the province.

Damascus has slammed the operation as evidence of Tel Aviv and Ankara’s coordinated support for the terrorists.

Israel is known for conducting airstrikes against Damascus during major Syrian military advancements.

The reported joint Israeli-Turkish operations in Syria come as Ankara – which has also been a major backer for terrorists in Syria – has warned that it may resort to military action if Syria does not withdraw its troops battling terrorist forces in Idlib until the end of February.

IRGC Showcases Wreckage of US Drone It Downed in June

Two videos displaying the wreckage were published by the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting on Thursday, several months after the drone was fished out of Iran’s territorial waters in the country’s Ra’as al-Shir area.

‘Iran possesses all codes, frequencies of MQ-4 drones’

Meanwhile, commander of the IRGC’s Aerospace Division Brigadier General Amirali Hajizadeh, who visited the exhibit, told reporters that the US-operated MQ-4 drones have no efficiency against Iran anymore, because the country’s military forces have gotten their hands on all frequencies and codes of this aircraft.

“This aircraft is unique in that it can fly in very high altitude and go anywhere without affecting routine flight routes. For example, it can directly fly from the United States to the Persian Gulf,” he said.

The commander added that the MQ-4 drone is equipped with all kinds of espionage hardware because of its very big size, including all kinds of sensors, cameras and SAR radars, in addition to a supercomputer.

“This aircraft is very valuable, but Iran is a red line for it, because we are now familiar with all its frequencies and codes…. Not only from a distance of 500, 100 or 150 kilometers, but from here in Tehran, we are able to incapacitate this aircraft from a distance of several thousand kilometers,” the Iranian commander said.

In a statement issued on June 20, 2019, the IRGC said its Air Force had brought down the US-made RQ-4A Global Hawk using its indigenously-manufactured Khordad-3 air defense system. The IRGC said the aircraft was targeted near the Kouh-e Mobarak region — which sits in the central district of Jask County in Hormozgan Province — after violating Iran’s skies.

According to the statement, the aircraft had flown from one of the American bases in the southern parts of the Persian Gulf region at 00:14 a.m. local time, with its identification transponders turned off in breach of all international aviation rules.

The drone was stealthily flying from the Strait of Hormuz towards Iran’s port city of Chabahar, and intruded into the national airspace while returning towards the west of the Strait, the statement said. While in Iranian skies, the aircraft began gathering intelligence and spying, it added.

The RQ-4 Global Hawk surveillance aircraft can fly at high altitudes for more than 30 hours, gathering near-real-time, high-resolution imagery of large areas of land in all types of weather, maker Northrop Grumman says on its website.

The IRGC also captured a US ScanEagle drone over the Persian Gulf waters upon its intrusion into the Iranian airspace in December 2012.

Iran’s air defenses also captured a US RQ-170 Sentinel drone in December 2011, which was flying over the Iranian city of Kashmar, near the Afghan border. Iran later reverse-engineered the aircraft’s hardware and software to copy its technology.

Iran Develops Olfactory Test to Diagnose Alzheimer's Disease

Dr Azadeh Sadat Zendehbad, an elderly medicine specialist and a researcher in the study of the relationship between olfactory sense and dementia, explained in an interview with ISNA that “Alzheimer’s sufferers suffer from an olfactory disorder before any other clinical symptoms appear.”

Therefore, simple olfactory tests can predict to some extent whether a middle-aged or elderly person is at risk for Alzheimer’s disease.

“The most reliable smell test in the world is the UPSIT which is carried out at Pennsylvania University. This smell test in Iran has been standardised by a medical engineering team in accordance with Iranian culture,” she added.

This study was performed on patients at two clinics of cognition of memory disorders in Tehran in three groups of “control”, “mild cognitive impairment” and “Alzheimer’s”.

“Then, to evaluate the olfactory function of the subjects, we used two aromas in the Iranian Smell Identification Test which is an Iranian version of the University of Pennsylvania’s UPSIT,” noted Zendehbad.

The results of this study showed that the Iranian Smell Identification Test as a very simple, inexpensive and accessible screening tool, along with other neuroecological and imaging tools, can detect Alzheimer’s in early stages.

In fact, the olfactory test for Alzheimer’s diagnosis is the cheapest, safest and most accessible means of diagnosing Alzheimer’s very quickly.

The results of the study were published in the January 2020 issue of the Applied Neuropsychology: Adult journal.

Earlier, some researchers from Tehran’s Amirkabir University of Technology based on 24 types of smell familiar in the culture of the country presented a smell assessment test for the Iranian people. It can detect the status of olfactory disorder in less than a minute.

This finding prompted researchers at Tehran University of Medical Sciences to use it in diagnosing dementia.

“The sense of smell is a sensation that is very much related to ethnicity, geography, culture and people’s lives,” said Dr Safa Taherkhani, director of the project. Therefore, it can be said that the sense of smell is “regional”.

“So, the national olfactory test is not valid for other geographical areas and we have conducted studies to design a native olfactory test in the country,” she went on to say.

Taherkhani also added that the test is done by a simple kit. “In this test we expose patients to a series of odors and based on the responses received from the patient, we can assess the status of the olfactory disorder.”

According to her, the test can be performed in less than a minute, easily and with a low cost.

Iran’s DM Vows Firm Response to Enemy’s Moves

Brigadier General Amir Hatami said on Thursday Iran has some 770 families of products in all combat domains while the figure stood at just 30 before the 1979 revolution.

The top general underlined that the enemy adopted the “maximum pressure” approach to force the closure of production lines across Iran.

However, he added, the defense ministry contributed to the revival of domestic industries, including auto industries.

“With reliance on domestic potentialities and local human resources, we managed to turn threats and sanctions into opportunities and make the most of lab and science infrastructure of the defense industry,” the top general added.

Can India Mediate between Iran and US?

Can India Mediate between Iran and US?

“When the US and Iran are engaged in a dispute, the entire world is saying only India can mediate and resolve it,” RT quoted Adityanath as saying

Earlier on 12 January Indian daily newspaper Sakaal Times had suggested that India can mediate between Iran and the US

Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, however, has not gone so far as to elucidate whether India is ready to proclaim its interest in mediation between the two countries.

The conflict between Iran and US has been escalating since the US assassinated Iranian General Qassem Soleimani at the Baghdad Airport while he was paying a visit to Iraq at the invitation of the Iraqi Government. The assassination was ensued by Iran’s missile attack on the US base in Ayn al-Assad in Iraq, where, Iran believed, the assassination was planned.

‘Oil-Free Economy to Increase Iran’s Export Capacities’

‘Oil-Free Economy to Increase Iran’s Export Capacities’

Mohammad Raouf Qaderi said at the opening ceremony of the 4th International Shahr-e Aftab Exhibition that “there are positive and negative effects of oil in our country. On the one hand, it contributes to wealth production, prosperity and development of the country, and on the other hand, it makes the economy dependent on oil and decreases attention to the manufacturing sectors.”

“If we compare the oil-rich countries with the oil-free countries, we can see that the economic independence of oil-free countries is far greater,” he said.

Qaderi also referred to the cruel sanctions against the Iranian nation saying that at various levels of the country’s management, there is a belief that the economy should be independent from oil, and this understanding is the result of both a scientific outlook and the sanctions.

“Iran is one of the rich countries in terms of history and nature, and if policy making in this area is done properly, we can make up the deficit in oil revenues by relying on tourism. Tourism is one of the tens of industries that have the potential to receive more attention.”

Another disadvantage of the oil economy is the stateization of the economy because monopoly in this area has made the private and cooperative sectors of the economy very small, he mentioned.

“In order to make the economy non-state and oil-free, we need to separate the policy-making and execution fields so that the government makes the decisions and the private sector implements,” he said.

The fourth export capabilities exhibition of the Islamic Republic of Iran began on Monday, February 4. More than 400 foreign businessmen attended the event which ran until Thursday, February 6.

The exhibition, which has about 70 booths, offers a wide range of products including knowledge-based items, carpets and handicrafts.
