Afghanistan Says Traffickers Are to Blame for Deadly Car Blaze in Iran

The Afghan Ambassador to Tehran said Sunday that the Iranian officials have promised to punish those behind the incident, especially the driver who was trafficking the illegal migrants and did not heed the police warnings.

Abdul Ghafoor Liwal told IRIB News Agency that the relations between Tehran and Kabul are of great significance to Afghanistan and the two sides must not let such tragic events disrupt the friendly ties of the two Muslim countries which share the same culture, language, and historical backgrounds.

He further thanked Iranian officials for their hospitality in dealing with Afghan migrants.
Liwal’s statements come after the fuss made over a video showing a car carrying Afghan refugees ablaze.

After the video went viral, Afghans took to social media to denounce Iranian police. Afghanistan’s foreign ministry said in a statement on Friday three Afghans were killed and four injured in Iran’s Yazd province after their vehicle caught fire.

The Iranian Police fired on the vehicle, suspected of carrying drugs and undocumented migrants, after it crashed through a checkpoint and did not heed the police warnings, said Ahmad Tarahomi, deputy Yazd governor.

After its tires were hit, the vehicle did not stop and continued to drive away on its wheel rims, igniting sparks which started the fire, Tarahomi said.

Afghans have for decades sought refuge in Iran from war and poverty in their homeland. Iran says about 2.5 million Afghan migrants, both legal and undocumented, live there.

Iran’s Gov’t Committed to Combatting Absolute Poverty: Rouhani

Iran's Gov't Committed to Combatting Absolute Poverty

President Rouhani said based on figures and statistics, the 11th and 12th governments have been successful in this field.

He said his administration has adhered to its commitment to fight against absolute poverty, and the policy-making must be based on this.

Although the promise to fight absolute poverty was made at a time when the severe sanctions of recent years had not yet been imposed on the country and his government had not faced the economic damage of corona, the administration has kept its words.

“These promises have been fulfilled to a great extent, and God willing, other measures will be taken till the end of the government’s term so that we can be proud of our promises,” he highlighted during an economic meeting of the cabinet.

Rouhani emphasised the government has focused on four areas in order to reduce absolute poverty.

“We have increased the monthly pension of households supported by aid institutions, as well as the pension of those supported by the Imam Khomeini Relief Foundation and the Welfare Organisation (the payment to each household has increased 9 times since 2013). Increasing total credits for the implementation of the program and construction of housing for deprived families are among these areas.”

The president called the release of Justice Shares one of the effective measures taken by the government to ensure justice is served in the society.

“This was an appropriate action that could strengthen the country’s economy and people’s participation in the country’s economic destiny.”

President Rouhani further advised that the rights of shareholders should be fully respected in all areas, and that the institutions that manage stocks should be extremely transparent, given the Leader’s stated goals and communiqué.

The meeting also reviewed and approved assistance to those who have lost their jobs and become unemployed during the implementation of restrictions to control COVID-19.

Ancient Stone Well Discovered in Isfahan Hills

The 6-metre well has been found on a historical hill called “Ashraf”.

Some clay works from Seljuk and Buyid dynasties have also been found while workers were digging the ground for water piping.

Researchers say the square stone well is historically very valuable in terms of its physical shape and form. The well is dug among the rocks and is six metres deep.

Alireza Jafari-Zand, Head of the Ashraf Hill Archaeological Team, told IRNA that the hill’s archeological findings date back from the Achaemenid period to the 12th century.

He said a valuable piece of pottery was also discovered above the stone well which is of great historical significance. Ancient Stone Well Discovered in Isfahan Hills

“Excavations on Ashraf Hill began in 2010 and lasted for six seasons. Now, with the operation to save the historical works of the two hills of Jey and Ashraf, important objects were found that could help us in the excavations of the seventh season.”

He further noted that the pottery found in the projects are amazingly undamaged and they can help a lot to say the exact age of the ancient site of Ashraf and Jay. The artifacts found in this area belong mostly to pre-Islamic periods up to the 5th century AH, he reiterated.

Jafari-Zand further emphasised that Isfahan owes its historical identity to these two hills saying Ashraf and Jay Hills have been linked and are part of a cultural area.
However, the two hills are now separated by a rural road, which has been turned into a street.

According to this archaeologist, the only place where archaeological excavations have been carried out in Isfahan in the past was the Atigh Grand Mosque, where only two or three pieces from the Sassanid era had been identified, and the rest were from the Islamic period.

“In these excavations, the archaeological team reached a pool and the half-finished building of Ashraf Palace which belongs to the 12th century AH. The most important achievement of the previous excavations on Ashraf Hill, however, was the discovery of parts of the Sassanid fortress that can be seen now near Moshtaq II Street.”

Ashraf Hill in Isfahan is said to be 7,000 years old, according to UNESCO estimates. Archaeological excavations are still underway in this ancient hill.

So far, over 22,000 monuments and historical works have been identified in Isfahan province, 1,850 of which have been nationally registered. Imam Square (Naqsh-e Jahan Square), Chehel Sotoun Palace, Kashan Fin Garden and the Grand Mosque are also registered as world heritage sites.

Iranian Scientists Build Ozone-Based Disinfectant Machine

Iranian Scientists Build Ozone-Based Disinfectant Machine

Scientists at a knowledge-based company located in the Science and Technology Tower of Amirkabir University of Technology have manufactured the device called “Ozonizer”.

The low-weight, non-chemical Ozonizer produces ozone from the surrounding air. Ozone does not accumulate on surfaces compared to conventional disinfectants that remain on the surface, and has long-term corrosive effects.

The ozone molecule is converted into oxygen after a short time again and has no side effects after disinfection.

Moreover, easy use of the Ozonizer and its full coverage of all spaces minimises the risk of human error in disinfection operations.

Due to the prevalence of the coronavirus and the importance of disinfecting high-risk areas of the country, Shareh Faraz Payda Company says it has focused on offering a variety of disinfectants to protect the health of Iranians.

Ozone, as a powerful oxidizer, has the ability to kill microorganisms such as bacteria, fungi and viruses. Ozone-based air disinfectants are suitable for disinfection of hospitals, offices, meeting and conference rooms, parliament, banks, hotels, public places, trains, passenger terminals and the like.

In addition, Ozonite water sprayer allows the consumer to always make sure that there is a reservoir of highly disinfectant water available.

By spraying Ozonite water, surfaces, equipment, textiles, and food can be disinfected. The sterile compartment can replace hospital autoclaves to sterilise medical masks, clothing, and laboratory and medical equipment.

For home use, you can put clothes, food, fruits and vegetables, and any suspected thing in the container which will be disinfected after the time specified in the device’s instructions.

Meanwhile, it can also be used in disinfectant tunnels and cabins which are capable of disinfecting goods and people at the entrances of medical centres, offices, ministries, factories, hotels, prisons, and residential complexes.

Mohammad-Baqer Qalibaf claimed on Sunday “it is proven that US and Israeli spy agencies were behind that attack.” He said they even had plans to commit massacre in the Iranian capital.

“They had plans to commit mass killings on Tehran streets if they could,” he said.
The top parliamentarian said if it weren’t for the bravery and sacrifices of the military and security forces, the enemies would commit whatever crime they could against Iranian people.

On June 7, 2017, ISIS terrorists carried out two separate, but simultaneous attacks in Tehran. One of the raids targeted the Parliament, and the other struck the Imam Khomeini mausoleum in the south of the capital. Seventeen civilians were killed and 43 wounded in the attacks.

Iran Offers Condolences on Ramadan Abdullah Shalah’s Demise

Ramadan Abdullah Shalah
Ramadan Abdullah Shalah

The full text of the message follows.

In the Name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful

From Allah we art, and to Allah we shall return

“Among the believers are men true to what they promised to Allah. Among them is he who has fulfilled his vow, and among them is he who awaits [his chance]. And they did not alter [the terms of their commitment] whatsoever.” (Verse 33, al-Ahzab Sura, the Holy Koran)

I was very saddened and deeply grieved to learn about the demise of Dr. Ramadan Abdullah Shalah, the [former] secretary general of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad Movement after a lifetime of struggles and fight and sincere efforts and devotion for the sake of the holy Palestinian cause and hold Quds.

With a long record of struggles and fight against the Zionist regime [of Israel], he was a national and combatant personality on the Palestine arena. Under tough and hard circumstances, he, despite all dangers and threats, bravely and devotedly and bravely struggled and made sacrifices on the resistance front to secure the liberation of dear Palestine and holy Quds.

Moreover, Dr. Ramadan Abdullah [Shalah] was a down-to-earth, intellectual, scholarly and resourceful character who was fully aware of the trend of developments in the region and across the world. He was particularly concerned about, and paid due regard to the reinforcement of unity among people from all walks of life and Palestinian groups and in the world of Islam. He was always keen on, and cared about the progress and development of Islamic Iran as a supporter of oppressed Palestinian people.

I express condolences, on this great loss, to brave Palestinians from different walks of life, especially Ziyad al-Nakhalah, the new secretary general of the [Palestinian] Islamic Jihad Movement, and all his comrades in resistance groups as well as his respected family. I am confident that the memory of him, as a symbol of resistance and struggle, will remain in the minds of all freedom-seeking nations around the world, especially the Palestinian nation.

Ties with All Neighbours of Great Importance to Iran: Rouhani

Iran Blasts US’ ‘Terroristic’ Attempt to Block Sales of Food, Medicine

HhRouhani noted that such relations can only be achieved when the borders are secure.

He went on to say that Tehran’s relationship with 13 of its 15 neighbours is good while some of them are really close, friendly and brotherly.

However, he said there are one or two countries in the south that, unfortunately, have distanced themselves from the people of Iran.

“We have not been the initiator of such division. They were the initiator of this detachment. We are always after having good and close ties with our neighbours,” he said during a meeting of the National Headquarters to Fight against Coronavirus.

Rouhani added the Islamic Republic exports water and electricity to its neighbours, but we also have to import water and electricity from some of them because of the natural conditions.

“The source of some rivers of Iran are in the neighbouring countries while the source of some rivers in the neighbouring countries are located in Iran. Therefore, we have a natural process of import and export,” said Iran’s president.

Rouhani added that Iran exports natural gas to Turkey and Iraq and is ready to export it to Pakistan and India and Oman as well.

He said many steps have been taken in this regard and some agreements have been sealed.

He also talked about the Islamic Republic’s electricity export to neighbouring countries saying Tehran has close relationship with Pakistan, Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan, Iraq, and different countries.

“We import electricity from these countries and export our electricity. One of the goals of the yesterday visit of our energy minister to Iraq was to boost this relation and make it stable. Yesterday, we signed an agreement to export electricity to Iraq for the next two years,” underlined Rouhani.

Iran Reacts to IAEA’s Latest Report on Its JCPOA Commitments

Iran Reacts to IAEA’s Latest Report on Its JCPOA Commitments

Kazem Gharibabadi said the new report by the IAEA about the Iran nuclear agreement, officially known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), illustrates Iran’s activities with regards to the implementation of its decision to suspend its commitments under the JCOPA.

He said the report highlights the following points:

– Iran’s production of heavy water crossing the 130-tonne mark and reaching 132.6 tonnes

– Using new machines for uranium enrichment, including IR4, IR 5, IR6, IRS, IRS6 and IR2 machines, on research and development lines

– Enriching uranium up to 4.5 percent and more than the level specified in the JCPOA

– Production of 1571.6kg of enriched uranium, which is 550.7kg more than the amount stated in the March report, and 1356.5kg of that is uranium enriched by 4.5 percent.

Iran’s envoy added the following points are also mentioned in the report with regards to the agency’s work to verify and monitor Iran’s obligations under the JCPOA:

– Continuation of verification and supervision work amid the coronavirus pandemic, and Iran’s proper cooperation in that regard

– The continuation of Iran’s voluntary and temporary implementation of the Additional Protocol and the continued verification of the protocol’s declarations by the agency

– The IAEA’s continued work to verify non-diversion of nuclear materials declared by Iran.

– And that the agency has been verifying and monitoring Iran’s nuclear commitments since the JCPOA went into force.

Based on the report, despite the US unilateral withdrawal from the JCPOA, which ran counter to international regulations, Iran tried to preserve the JCPOA on the condition that other signatories to the deal made good on their commitments under the deal. However, after nearly two years, the Europeans failed to live up to their obligations. As a result, Iran began scaling down its commitments under the deal in a bid to be able to reap the benefits of the JCPOA.

Accordingly, Iran began reducing its commitments on January 5, 2020 whereby Tehran would have no restrictions in the operational domain (including the enrichment capacity, the percentage of enrichment, the amount of enriched material, and research and development), and from then on, Iran’s nuclear program would go on only based on its technical needs. Meanwhile, Iran’s cooperation with the IAEA will continue.

In reaction to Iran’s move and disregarding their own procrastination with regards to full implementation of their commitments, the European Troika (France, Germany and Britain) tried to urge Iran to return to the full implementation of its obligations by using a mechanism to settle differences.

On January 18, 2020, they issued a statement expressing their willingness to activate this mechanism. Still, European Foreign Policy Chief Josep Borrell announced that the mechanism was no operation yet, and that the European parties are in agreement that the timetable for its implementation be extended.
