Iran Happy to See US President Donald Trump Leaving Office: Rouhani
Hassan Rouhani described Trump as a “tyrant” and “law-breaker” who even prevented vaccines from reaching Iranian patients and who did not even abide by moral and human principles.
Rouhani said the US, under Trump, complied with nothing and was ruled by the number-one outlaw and law-breaker in the country.
He said the United States has left no stone unturned to deal a blow to Iran.
“In those days, the US got its anti-Iran allegations overwhelmingly approved by UN members, but the US has become more isolated in recent years,” he said.
President Rouhani also urged the next US administration to choose the right path.
“The next US administration knows what path to choose. If it goes for the right path, we will be ready, and should it choose the wrong path, again, the choice is theirs,” he said.
Elsewhere in his remarks, President Rouhani underlined that Iran has grown stronger compared to previous years.
“Today’s military and air defence power is not comparable to what it was in 2015. Today, we possess the most modern air defence systems as well as the best frigates and missile systems, and our power has multiplied,” he noted.
President Rouhani said Iran favours peace, stability and security in the world and constructive interaction with all countries who want engagement.
He said despite the economic war targeting Iran as well as the coronavirus pandemic, the country’s economic growth has been positive this year.
The president also touched upon the 2015 Iran nuclear deal, officially known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), saying, “If the 5+1 group (the other six signatories to the nuclear deal) return to their commitments, Iran will immediately return to its obligations, too.”

Iran Eyes Promotion of Friendly Ties with Kazakhstan: Rouhani
President Rouhani on Wednesday sent a message to his Kazakh counterpart, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, to congratulate the government and people of the Republic of Kazakhstan on the country’s 29th anniversary of independence.
Pointing to the expansion of relations between Iran and Kazakhstan in line with the interests of the two nations over the past years, President Rouhani expressed hope for stronger friendly interaction in all fields through joint efforts and employment of the existing capacities.
“The Islamic Republic of Iran and the Republic of Kazakhstan have common responsibility and interests for strengthening regional stability and security and Islamic solidarity. Constant consultations between the two countries at various levels are necessary to that end,” the Iranian president stressed.
President Rouhani also wished the Kazakh leader and people success and prosperity.
Kazakhstan’s Day of Independence is celebrated annually on 16 December.
It was the last of the Soviet republics to declare independence following the dissolution of the Soviet Union in 1991.
In recent years, Tehran and Nur-Sultan have stepped up efforts to broaden bilateral relations in different fields.
‘Knowledge-Based Firms Playing Key Role in Iran’s Battle with Pandemic’
Saeed Namaki noted the firms have played a major role in producing the equipment needed to tackle the coronavirus outbreak.
“First, we had much difficulty producing masks and protective gear [for coronavirus], but in less than 50 days, not only did our knowledge-based companies produce these items, but we were able to export them as well,” said the minister.
He then touched upon efforts by pharmaceutical experts in the country to produce drugs effective in treating coronavirus patients.
“As soon as we found out a medicine was effective in treating coronavirus patients, our drug companies began work and produced the medicine which we would buy from abroad or which they would even refuse to give us. The domestically produced drugs cost less than a 100th the price we would pay to import them,” he noted.
He then lashed out at Washington’s claims that no sanctions have been imposed on drug sales to Iran, saying the US is lying when it says sanctions do not apply to medicines.
The minister said the way out of crises is not to seek help from the United States and Europe; rather, he added, Iran should rely on its own scientists and domestically-developed know-how.
New Technologies Can Facilitate War on Narcotics Trade: Iran VP
The Iranian vice president on Tuesday visited an exhibition of the scientific and practical achievements in the war on drugs.
In remarks at the event, held on the occasion of the National Research Day, Sattari said new technologies and innovative methods can introduce new techniques for preventing, diagnosing, and treating drug misuse and even for detection of drug smugglers.
He also proposed that Iran’s Anti-Narcotics Headquarters should take advantage of the local knowledge-based companies, innovative firms and science accelerators in various fields.
Hailing the close cooperation between the Vice Presidency for Science and Technology and the Anti-Narcotics Headquarters over the past year, Sattari said such collaboration would allow for the use of technology and innovation in the war on drugs.
“We must enter the field of war on drugs with the help of technology and innovation. Publication of books and articles alone without technological support would not suffice,” the vice president added.
Sattari also noted that the domestic knowledge-based companies working under the auspices of a department of the Vice Presidency on the promotion of science and technology of herbal and traditional medicine have the potential for the production of effective herbal medication for the treatment of addiction, which have won international acclaim.
Iran’s Official COVID-19 Figures on December 15
According to Sima-Sadat Lari, the new fatalities increase Iran’s overall death toll to 52,670, and the new cases raise the total number of infections to 1,123,474.
Lari went on to say that 5,704 patients are also in critical conditions caused by more severe infection.
The spokeswoman noted that 6,797,469 COVID-19 tests have been taken across the country so far.
She said currently 12 cities are in the “red zone”, 288 in the “orange zone”, and 148 in the “yellow zone” in terms of coronavirus outbreak.
The “red zones” include Zarrindasht in Fars province, Baft in Kerman province, Gomishan in Golestan province, Astara, Bandar Anzali, Rudsar and Talesh in Gilan province, and Amol, Behshahr, Ramsar, Galugah, and Neka in Mazandaran province.
Rouhani Urges Implementation of Iran’s Deals with Thailand
The incoming ambassador of Thailand to Tehran met with President Rouhani on Tuesday to submit his credentials.
In the meeting, President Rouhani called for the full implementation of the agreements between Iran and Thailand.
He also highlighted the history of more than 400 years of relations between the two countries, saying Tehran attaches high value to the promotion of cooperation with Bangkok and is prepared to expand the bilateral ties in all fields.
The president also welcomed the enhancement of scientific, economic and cultural cooperation with Thailand, expressing hope that the new Thai ambassador would take advantage of the abundant capacities for the promotion of ties during his mission.
For his part, Thai Ambassador Worawoot Pongprapapant described the centuries-old relations between Thailand and Iran and 65 years of official diplomatic ties between the two nations as a perfect opportunity for the promotion of cooperation.
Bangkok is determined to broaden relations with Tehran over all issues of mutual interest, the envoy noted.
The ambassador finally noted that Thailand is eager to send more students to Iran for academic education, saying it would greatly help strengthen cooperation between the two governments and nations.
Rouhani Calls for Further Sci-Tech Cooperation with Japan
President Hassan Rouhani noted Tehran has always welcomed the promotion of economic and scientific relations with Tokyo, and highlighted closer Iran-Japan cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
“We hope to see a more active presence by Japanese companies to get our national projects off the ground in the domain of science and technology,” said President Rouhani.
He also stressed the importance of expediting the implementation of joint agreements reached by Tehran and Tokyo as well as the need for Iran’s financial assets in Tokyo to be released.
The president made the comment when receiving the credentials of new Japanese Ambassador to Tehran Aikawa Kazutoshi, who, for his part, said his country is set to forge closer cooperation with Iran in areas of mutual interest.
The top Japanese diplomat said Iran and Japan are good partners, adding the implementation of the technical cooperation between them will provide good opportunity for further cooperation between Tehran and Tokyo.
Iran Set to Boost Trade, Industrial Ties with Mexico
In comments on Tuesday, President Hassan Rouhani also touched upon cordial ties between Tehran and Mexico City as well as the existing potential for mutual cooperation in all areas, especially in economy as well as science and technology.
President Rouhani expressed hope bilateral ties will expand on all fronts.
He made the comments in a meeting with new Mexican Ambassador to Tehran Guillermo Alejandro Puente Ordorica where the president received the top diplomat’s credentials.
The top Mexican diplomat, in turn, described Iran as an ally of Mexico, saying his country will spare no effort to boost mutual ties with Tehran.
