Abadan Refinery

Ahmad Farzaneh, the superintendent responsible for development and stabilization at Abadan Refinery, told IRNA on Wednesday that the first phase of the plan — with an investment of 1.2 billion dollars — was already 92 percent complete and would fully launch within the next six months.

Farzaneh explained that the plan was aimed at rendering the refinery profitable, optimizing standards at the facility, and stabilizing its production capacity by building new units and removing old ones.

Under the new plan, he said, the facility’s production capacity of 360,000 barrels per day will be stabilized.

The standard level of products will also increase to Euro-5. According to the official, the share of gas at the facility will stay at 27.9 percent of total output, and diesel fuel at 30 percent.

Abadan Refinery, Iran’s oldest, produces 25 percent of the country’s fuel needs.

Iran’s UN envoy slams US’s unilateral coercive sanctions against other countries

Zahra Ershadi

Ershadi was addressing the UN General Assembly’s 76th conference on Global Health and Foreign Policy.

She said it’s impossible to strengthen health systems without improving the infrastructure and ensuring the transfer of related technologies.

Ershadi noted that this means that all nations must have equal access to quality, safe, effective vaccines and diagnosis technologies regardless of political considerations.

Iran’s envoy to the UN said all countries must also have access to quality and cost-effective healthcare services and this is a top priority for global development and absolutely necessary for response to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Ershadi urged all world countries to use this opportunity to promote multilateralism and fight unilateralism.

She underlined Iran’s support for the principle that the development of global health is contingent upon international partnerships, especially during crises.

Ershadi added that, “In spite of all of this, we are witnessing the US and a few other countries that follow it blindly take unilateral coercive measures including oppressive economic sanctions against a number of nations that include those who are suffering from the severe implications of this pandemic.”

She said The US and its allies claim the unilateral coercive measures do not include medicines and food but their sanctions have actually cut off the sanctioned countries from the global banking system and this has made it impossible for them to buy medicines and food.

The US has supplied Saudi Arabia and its allies who have waged war on Yemen with the most sophisticated weaponry as well as warplanes and drones.

Iran, IONS countries begin joint military drills in Indian Ocean

The war games are overseen by the 14 members of the Indian Ocean Naval Symposium (IONS) and were launched from Indian Port City of Guay.

Iran currently chairs the marine security committee of IONS.

“IMX 2022 drills are staged in two coastal and marine phases. The coastal phase included briefings, training workshops and inspection of other participants’ fleets and in the marine phase, specialized marine operations, including fleet formation, exchange of medical aid, relief and rescue operations, are carried out,” commander of the Iranian fleet Capain Farhad Fattahi said.

He added that the Iranian Army’s Naval Forces have taken part in the exercises for humanitarian purposes along with exchange of experiences and training.

Fattahi also said that some of the objectives of this dill are improving IONS members’ capability to tackle natural disasters, their intra-force coordination for exchange of medical aid and to conduct diving operations.

The commander further stressed that the naval forces of the Iranian army are now a major force in different arenas.

46 more people die of Covid in Iran

COVID in Iran

Figures also showed that 2,743 more people were infected with the virus. They include 355 hospitalizations.

The total number of cases in Iran since the start of the pandemic in early 2020 stands at 7,156,746.

The number of deaths and infections have decreased compared to the peak of the sixth wave of Covid that was driven by its last variant known as Omicron. This has been attributed to a nationwide vaccination campaign in Iran.

The total number of vaccine doses given to people in the country is 146,792,557. Over 26 million people are triple-vaxxed.

Meanwhile the number of cities marked red has also fallen to 24 with the number of blue cities reaching 50.

These are the two extremes on a spectrum showing the level of danger from the virus.
The red shows the highest level of risk and blue denotes the lowest level.

However, reports coming from northern Iran, especially Mazandaram Province, say the number of new Covid cases shows a slight upward trend given that the regions have reached capacity in terms of visitors who have rushed to Iran’s north in their millions during the Nowruz holidays.

Before, Nowruz, authorities including President Ebrahim Raisi had urged citizens to observe health protocols to prevent a resurgence of Covid.

Senior advisor to Iran FM: Time ripe to end Yemen war

During the talks held through video conference, the Top Advisor to the Iranian Foreign Minister referred to the beginning of the eighth year of the destructive war and the cruel blockade by the coalition against the people of Yemen and expressed hope that, in the light of political efforts and practical measures to remove the blockade, to establish truce and to launch political dialogue, the human catastrophe is warded off.

Khaji described the recent peace initiative, recently tabled by the president of the supreme council of Yemen, as a key step, stressing that, if there is positive interaction with the initiative and real will to resolve the Yemeni crisis in a peaceful manner and if human issues are prioritized, on the eve of the Holy Month of Ramadan, there could be openings to put an end to the war.

The UN Secretary General’s Special Envoy on Yemen’s Affairs also briefed Khaji on his latest plans and measures, including his recent consultations with different Yemeni groups in Jordan, and the latest consultations with the parties involved in the Yemeni crisis.

He also talked about his plan to visit Tehran for continued consultations with the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Ansarullah leader: Enemies have no way but to stop Yemen aggression

Houthi said Yemenis will not let this blockade continue.

Houthi added that the enemies of Yemen have no way but to end the siege and the occupation of the country if they want to get out of this quagmire and get rid of the blows Yemeni forces are dealing to them.

“We stand up against the aggression and blockade through patience and God’s assistance and by targeting the enemies”, the Ansarullah leader said.
He added that the Saudi-led coalition’s goal is to harm the Yemeni people, noting that the Saudis and their allies started an all-out war on Yemeni families by imposing the siege on the country.

Houthi condemned the siege as a big crime, saying the blockade has slashed income of Yemeni households and has caused many hardships for them.

The leader of Ansarullah said the former Yemeni regime’s policy was to rely on imports and shut down domestic production, which inflicted heavy losses on Yemen.

Houthi noted that this reliance on foreign imports caused Yemen to become independent on Ukrainian wheat and that the Ukraine war will have an adverse impact on the Yemenis.
