Iranian MPs to Vienna negotiators: Any sanctions removal must be inclusive, effective

They said given the Ukraine crisis, the West increasingly needs energy imports from Iran but any energy deal with the US must meet Iran’s righteous demands.

They stressed that the negotiating team should not feel bound by the fake deadlines of the West in the Vienna talks, and should pursue the stated goals of Iran without delay by standing up for the protection of national interests and the Islamic Republic’s main demands and red lines.

They also urged the Iranian delegation in Vienna to obtain adequate economic, technical and political guarantees from the US that it will not again illegally withdraw from the nuclear agreement.

The statement said Iran should also push for receiving reparations from the US due to the losses it inflicted following its pullout from the nuclear deal. As for sanctions removal, the MPs said it must be inclusive and effective and must not be on paper alone.

Iraqi politician: Riyadh’s recent execution of Shiites a terror act

Execution in Saudi Arabia

Nasr al-Shammari made the comment in reaction to the execution of more than 80 people in a single day, including Shia activists, by Al-Saud rulers.

In a tweet, he said the mass execution was among the most heinous crime committed by the regime so far. Those executed included dozens of Shite Saudi people as well as several nationals of other countries.

He said the Saudi regime accuses victims of conducting acts of terror in order to deceive the public.

He underlined the Al-Saud regime, with its ethnic tendencies and a track record full of crimes and black terrorism, poses a major threat not only to the region but to most countries around the world.

He called on all freedom-seekers across the globe to counter the Saudi regime’s ‘inhumane, ignominious and criminal behavior’, adding such a criminal record will leave the Al-Saud regime’s foundation on shaky ground and lead to its eternal annihilation as its acts of oppression will backfire.

Ex-diplomat: Iran’s economy should not be held up by JCPOA

Ramin Mehmanparast made the comment while highlighting that the administration of Iranian President Ebrahim Raisis has adopted a balanced foreign policy.

“If we feel the other side does not intend to make good on its commitments or wants to add new conditions or to make excessive demands by looking down on us, then we can continue our course regardless of the JCPOA issue,” he said.

In order to get rid of the problems, he explained, the root causes of the existing pressure should be detected and reviewed.

“If the government wants to neutralize sanctions, it should be able to follow an economic path well regardless of the JCPOA,” said the former spokesman referring to the Iran nuclear deal known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action.

“First, the government should cut down heavy state expenses, and, through a well-planned policy, downsize the government and reinforce the private sector,” he said.

“In order to strengthen the private sector, attention should be paid to both production and exports,” the veteran diplomat noted.

“So, in order to wean the country and its economy off their dependence on the JCPOA, we should have a mechanism to make up for the budget deficit by downsizing the government and reducing state costs,” he explained.

IRGC claims Erbil attacks against ‘Zionists’ strategic centers’

Iran Missile

The IRGC said in a statement on Sunday that the attacks were a response to the “recent crimes of the fake Zionist regime and the previous announcements that crimes and acts of villainy by the regime will not go unanswered”.

“We once more warn the criminal regime that repetition of acts of villainy will face a strong, severe and destructive response,” the IRGC said.

The force added that Iran’s security is a “redline of the armed forces”, stressing that no one will be allowed to threaten or engage in an act of aggression against the country.

Earlier, reports said missiles hit two Mossad bases in Iraq’s northern Kurdistan region.

Saberin News cited a security source as saying that the attacks hit two advanced training centers, run by Israel’s Mossad in Erbil. The report said the strikes used ballistic missiles.

Al-Mayadeen news network also reported that the hit was on a Mossad base 10 kilometers northeast of Erbil. It said no Iraqi or US facilities were targeted.

Initial reports show the 14 “Grad” rockets were fired at the US precincts triggering sirens at US’s al-Harir airbase and cancelling flights at Erbil airport.

Following the attacks, the entry gates to the US embassy in Baghdad were closed and all US bases in the Iraq were put on alert.

Iraqi media also reported shooting in Erbil, where an unidentified drone was also seen flying. Erbil’s governor has confirmed the city having been “hit” by a number of missiles, saying that it is not clear whether the target was the US consulate or the city’s airport.

The report said ballistic missiles were used in the strikes. al-Mayadeen news network also reported that the hit was on a Mossad base 10 kilometers northeast of Erbil. It said no Iraqi or US facilities were targeted.

The so-called Counter-Terrorism Apparatus of Iraq’s Kurdistan Region also claimed Erbil was hit with 12 ballistic missiles, fired from outside Iraq.

No group has so far claimed responsibility for the attacks with Reuters citing a US official as saying that no American soldiers were hurt in the raids on Erbil.

The US State Department has condemned the attacks as “outrageous” and a “show of violence”. It said the raids led to no casualties or damage at US facilities.

Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi also, in a tweet, described the strikes as “an attack on the security of our people”.

Premier of the Kurdistan Masrour Barzani region also said “Erbil will not bow down to cowards”.

Iraqi President Barham Saleh also condemned the attack as “terrorist crime”.

Report: Iran unilaterally suspends talks with Saudi Arabia

This comes as Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein had announced on the margins of the Antalya conference that the fifth round of Saudi-Iranian talks would be held on Wednesday (March 16, 2022) in Baghdad.

However, reports suggest that Tehran has unilaterally and temporarily put the talks on hold.

Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan Al-Saud had also earlier spoken of the possibility of a fifth round of talks being held with Iranian officials.

Although Iran has not yet announced any specific time for negotiations with Saudi Arabia, unofficial reports indicated that the two sides had agreed to hold the talks this Wednesday.

Iran and Saudi Arabia are at loggerheads over a variety of issues and have already held several rounds of talks in an attempt to iron out their differences.

Iran says no timing yet for return to Vienna talks

khatibzadeh-Iran

Saeed Khatibzadeh says a pause was announced in the talks based on a request by the coordinator of the nuclear deal’s joint commission and the EU foreign policy chief, and a return to the negating table needs preparations and some delegations need to consult with their capitals.

“The Islamic Republic of Iran has announced that it will review all requests within the framework of the JCPOA and the Vienna talks. But, what determines how we proceed in Vienna, in addition to the JCPOA and [UNSC] resolution 2231, is the definite rights and interests of the Iranian nation,” Khatibzadeh said.

No one should forget that the United States is to blame for the current situation. The US has placed us in a position that we are yet to conclude the agreement not only by its withdrawal from the JCPOA, but also through its repeated violations of the deal and also through the maximum pressure campaign, and subsequently, with foot-dragging and refraining from providing answers to requests of Iran and our negotiating topics.

The spokesman also talked about Iran’s previous stance that the Vienna negotiations should not “stretch out”.

He said this does not mean “We are in a hurry”.

“A good agreement is what shows us the direction. Elements of a good agreement are also clear and have been talked about. If the US had answered us sooner, the negotiations would have ended long before this,” he said.
