Iran Covid: 33 more deaths, vaccination underway

COVID in Iran

The deaths push to 140,744 the total number of the people killed by the disease.

The health Ministry figures also put the daily Covid caseload at 2,194 including 351 hospitalizations.

A comparison between the number of deaths and infections these past days and the daily tallies of several weeks ago show Iran is witnessing a downward trend in Covid fatalities and cases.

Back then, hundreds of people died while thousands of infections were logged daily.

Authorities attribute the downward trend to a nationwide vaccination campaign that has seen over 148 million doses of Covid vaccine administered to people across Iran.

Over the past 24 hours alone, 129,237 shots were given to people.

The number of triple-vaxxed people is inching closer to the 27 million mark. Authorities are urging all Iranians who have received their second shots to get their booster, the third shot, as well.

They say this will considerably reduce the chances of a resurgence of Covid which is now in marked retreat in Iran

Israeli forces kill Palestinian in WB

According to the Palestinian Authority’s Health Ministry, 14-year-old Qusai Hamamrah was fatally shot during a swoop by the forces on the village of Husan near the city of Bethlehem in southern West Bank on Wednesday night.

The Israeli military alleged that the victim had thrown a petrol bomb at the forces, who “used live ammunition in order to stop the immediate threat.”

The troops then prevented the teenager from receiving emergency medical aid, prompting his death from the multiple gunshots that he had received.

The ministry also said a 20-year-old Palestinian youth, named as Omar Alyan, had also been fatally shot by the forces near the city of Ramallah in the Silwad village.

The ministry added the second victim died during clashes that erupted after Israeli forces carried out an arrest raid in the area. At least six other Palestinians were also injured during the raid.

The regime has stepped up its deadly aggression across the Palestinian territories since the start of the holy fasting month of Ramadan, triggering Palestinians to ramp up their resistance operations in response.

On Thursday, the Palestinian Health Ministry announced that “two youths died of injuries sustained in an Israeli attack in the Jenin district” earlier in the day.

The raid marked the sixth day of an Israeli “counterterrorism operation” in the occupied West Bank, which has mainly targeted Jenin.

One of the Palestinians killed was identified as Shas Kamamji, the brother of Ayham Kamamji, one of the prisoners who managed to escape the highly-fortified Gilboa prison in September. The other was identified as Mustafa Abu-Arub, who was shot dead at the western entrance of Jenin. He was a resident of Misilyah village, south of Jenin.

According to Palestine’s official Wafa news agency, a large number of Israeli forces barged their way into al-Yamun and Kafr Dan towns, west and northwest of the city, triggering violent confrontations in which six other Palestinians were also wounded, one of them critically.

Israeli forces also arrested four Palestinians, including three brothers of Kamamji, after storming their houses in Kafr Dan and another from al-Yamun.

Most recently, a shooting operation killed at least three people and injured eight others in the heart of Tel Aviv. The attack was conducted when a Palestinian youth, identified as Ra’ad Fathi Hazem, entered a pub on a crowded main street in the city and began firing his weapon.

The 28-year-old, a resident of the Jenin refugee camp in the West Bank, was killed by Israeli forces in a pre-dawn firefight near a mosque on the first Friday of Ramadan.

Various Palestinian resistance groups and the Lebanese resistance movement of Hezbollah have hailed the incident as a “heroic operation.”

Police dismiss reports on demolition of mosque in Zahedan

Iran Police

“Recently, footage was published on social media about demolition of a mosque in the city of Zahedan at the presence of the police, with the aim of mudslinging and falsification to create agitation among the public,” local Police Deputy Chief for Cultural, Social and Law Enforcement Affairs Colonel Ali Rahimi said.

The police commander explained that the footage actually shows demolition of a storeroom for construction material, which was abandoned after a contractor completed a residential building in the area.

He said the structure was removed by the General Department for Roads and Urban Development of Sistan and Balouchestan Province to prevent dumping of trash there.

“Production and sharing of any false news on social media with the aim of agitating the public is a crime and those responsible will face legal action,” Rahimi warned.

He also called on people to ensure they get the news only from reliable sources.

Based on projections, he explained, those triple-vaxxed against the coronavirus are likely to need another booster shot.

“If a timetable is set [for a fourth dose vaccination], inoculations will take place as scheduled,” he added.

“At the moment, there are enough vaccine doses needed for our fellow countrymen, and, at the same time, the maintenance cycle is being observed,” said the top health official.

He also described the status of the production of domestically-produced vaccines as satisfactory.

“In addition to domestic consumption, permits have already been issued to export 20% of Iranian-made vaccines, and the exports of these vaccines are to increase, too,” he said.

He said the major concern in the health sector at the moment is that some people have not received their third doses of the coronavirus vaccine, urging them to go to vaccination centers.

According to the latest, more than 26 million Iranians have got the third shots, meaning around 50 million are yet to get the jab.

FM: Iran backs political solution to Russia-Ukraine war

Iran’s Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian

The top Iranian diplomat urged attention on the part of the concerned parties to the conflict, to political solution and diplomatic dialog during the phone call that took place on Wednesday, hoping that negotiations between Russia and Ukraine “would lead to stability and peace.”

On February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a “special military operation” aimed at “demilitarization” of the Donetsk and Lugansk regions in eastern Ukraine. In 2014, the two regions declared themselves new republics, refusing to recognize Ukraine’s Western-backed government.

Moscow has repeatedly denied targeting civilians during the operation, and has partaken in negotiations with the Ukrainian side in Belarus and then in Turkey.

Amir-Abdollahian also laid emphasis on the need for protection of diplomatic missions and transfer of humanitarian aid during the war, saying the Islamic Republic is prepared to dispatch a medical team assembled by the country’s Red Crescent Society to the conflict-stricken country.

Kuleba, for his part, stressed that Kiev favored an end to the dire situation, thanking Tehran for its objection to the hostilities.

The Ukrainian government would try its best to provide protection for foreign diplomatic facilities during the conflict, he stated, welcoming further talks with the Iranian minister and expansion of the bilateral ties in all areas.
