Report: Iran negotiator Bagheri to travel to Qatar for meetings on JCPOA revival talks

Ali Bagheri Kani

According to Tasnim News Agency, a source familiar with the matter at the Iranian Foreign Ministry confirmed this.

Media reports also say US Special Envoy for Iran Robert Malley will also be in Qatar for talks with the Persian Gulf sheikhdom’s emir.

The JCPOA revival talks in Vienna were stalled 3 months ago due to what Iran calls excessive demands by the US and also lack of determination on the part of Washington to make political decisions as to Iran’s economic benefits from the nuclear deal.

Earlier, Iranian Foreign Minister Hosseun Amirabdollahian and EU Foreign Policy Chief Josef Borrell said in a joint press briefing that the sanctions removal talks will resume soon, but this time not in Vienna, but in a Persian Gulf country.

The Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman on Monday confirmed the resumption of Iran’s nuclear talks within days and said one of the countries in the Persian Gulf will host the talks.

Saeed Khatibzadeh said, “We won’t discuss the nuclear dimensions and we will only talk about the disputes revolving around the few remaining issues regarding lifting of sanctions.”

Raisi was speaking in a meeting with D-8 Secretary General Isiaka Abdulqadir Imam, who is visiting Tehran.

He then spoke about the knowledge-based achievements by Iranian youth at the country’s scientific and technological parks.

The president said it’s Iran’s policy to expand cooperation with the regional and international organizations as well as world countries.

Raisi added that D-8 members have a huge potential for increasing trade and transit of goods, noting that this potential has not been realized fully.

He said it’s necessary to increase trade exchanges between the organization’s members.

Raisi maintained that the US does not want independent countries to grow so that they remain dependent on the global arrogance.

D-8 Secretary General Isiaka Abdulqadir Imam for his part described Iran as an active member of the grouping.

He said two key bodies of D-8 are stationed in Iran’s capital Tehran and Hamedan, in western Iran.

Abdulqadir Imam added two priorities of D-8 during his tenure as secretary general of the group is to take account of population capacity for members and to increase trade between them.

Iran MPs call for probe into allegations behind impeachment of minister

Iran Parliament

Parliament Speaker Mohamamd Bagher Ghalibaf has reportedly received a letter from 40 MPs in which they called for a probe into favoritism allegations against the lawmakers.

The letter says the two parliamentarians tried to pressure Seyyed Reza Fatemi Amin the minister of industry, mine and trade into finding posts for some people at a company.

They demanded Ghalibaf urgently order an inquiry into the claims by the committee responsible for oversight of the conduct of lawmakers.

The letter says taking this issue seriously and dealing with those who violated the law will increase parliament’s credibility in the eyes of the public.

The two MPs are said to have pushed for the appointment of those people to posts in Chadormelou Industrial and Mining Company.

They stand accused of sending an SMS giving the minister of industry, mines and trade an ultimatum over the issue.

Meanwhile Fatemi Amin, attending the parliament on Monday, rejected the claim that he was under pressure or that he has received any threatening SMS.

Media reports earlier said some MPs had called for the impeachment of Minister of Industry, Mine and Trade Seyyed Reza Fatemi Amin. But the number of signatures failed to reach the necessary quorum with opponents of Fatemi Amin’s impeachment saying the timing was not right for such a move.

Top general: Iran will react to threats posed by Israel

Iranian Forces

Major General Mohammad Bagheri said, during a meeting with the visiting Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee of Pakistan General Nadeem Raza, that Israel is paving the way for interference and instability in the region.

Bagheri said the regime is plotting to contact regional countries in line with its policy of meddling in the region.

“Terrorist and Takfiri groups in the region, especially in Syria and Iraq are among other creations of the US and Israel for the region,” he said.

“They fueled the Takfirism and terrorism and pushed their hegemonic plot to the point of the collapse of the two countries.”

The general further stressed that the region where Iran and Pakistan are located is “very sensitive and important”, especially as the recent developments have led to meddling by foreign countries and creation of certain problems in the region.

Bagheri also called for further expansion of military ties with Pakistan, especially with a focus on the security of joint borders.

He added that the issue of Afghanistan is also a major security topic for both countries.

The general noted that Iran is concerned about expansion of terrorism from Afghanistan, adding that Tehran believes these issues can be settled through the cooperation between Iran and Pakistan.

COVID in Iran

In an interview with ISNA, Hamid Souri, an epidemiology expert, warned people against any premature basking in the diminishing coronavirus cases, saying the current trend would lead to a new rise in the cases.
He said no indigenous studies have been carried out to ascertain whether it is safe to stop wearing facial masks.

The pandemic has left 141,385 deaths in the country with a population of over 85 million people.

Over 150 million doses of coronavirus vaccine have been administered across Iran. More than 64 million Iranians have received the first dose and nearly 58 million people have so far received the second dose of the Covid-19 vaccine.

Nearly 28 million people have got the third shot as the booster jab.

‘EU’s Borrell stressed US to fulfill nuclear commitments, guarantee Iran’s economic interests’

Saeed Khatibzadeh Iran FM Spokesperson

In his weekly press conference on Monday, Saeed Khatibzadeh said the EU top diplomat in his recent trip to the Iranian capital Tehran to save the nuclear deal, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), conveyed the message from the American side.

“I can confirm that there has been an agreement on the content and form (of the nuclear talks),” Khatibzadeh said, adding “but it remains to be seen whether the Americans will in practice show that they are willing to move beyond Trump’s legacy and act as a responsible member.”

The Iranian diplomat also confirmed the resumption of Iran’s nuclear talks within days and said one of the countries in the Persian Gulf will host the talks.

The previous round of talks between Tehran and the West held in Vienna to remove sanctions on Iran have been stalled since March over what Iran calls “the US’s excessive demands”.

“In the talks within the next few days, we won’t discuss the nuclear dimensions and we will only talk about the disputes revolving around the few remaining issues regarding lifting of sanctions,” the spokesperson explained.

He also stressed the talks would only focus on differences that remained during the last round of talks in Vienna, saying nothing will be added to or removed from the previous agreements.

Khatibzadeh said the steps taken by Iran to step up its nuclear activities are reversible provided the parties to deal act according to the agreement and stressed that “The ball is in Washington’s court now.”

The spokesperson also touched on Iran’s ties with Saudi Arabia a day after Iraq’s Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi visited Tehran to push revival of talks between the regional powers.

Khatibzadeh said the Iraqi prime minister conveyed a message by Riyadh saying it is prepared to hold talks at diplomatic level in Baghdad to hammer out problems between the two sides.

Tehran and Riyadh severed ties in 2016 after angry Iranian protesters stormed the Saudi embassy in Tehran following the execution of prominent Shia cleric Sheikh Nimr Baqir al-Nimr by Saudi Arabia.

Khatibzadeh added the date of the talks will be finalized after which the technical delegations will visit the two embassies.
