Iranian expert: Biden’s visit to Saudi Arabia and Israel abject failure

President Joe Biden

He added this means that none of the demands of the Zionist regime’s prime minister were accepted by the US president.

Faraji Rad noted that Biden disappointed the Israelis as he stressed that he will follow the diplomatic path with regard to Iran.

The Iranian political expert added that Biden’s visit to Saudi Arabia did not lessen tension between the two sides and the US president repeated his statement regarding Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi’s murder.

Faraji Rad added that the Saudis also gave Biden the cold shoulder by sending Mecca’s governor to receive him upon arrival at the Jeddah airport.

He underlined the only gain Biden made during his tour of the Middle East is related to Iraq.

He referred to the agreement reached between the two sides regarding the export of electricity to Iraq, adding this will not be in favor of Iran.

The expert ruled out the notion that Biden travelled to the Middle East to confront Iran and that the US underlined the need for sticking to diplomacy regarding the Islamic Republic.

Faraji Rad maintained that the US is seeking to reach a deal so that Iran will start pumping oil to the global markets to reduce fuel prices.

Analyst: Biden’s Middle East trip shouldn’t be overestimated

Biden and Bin Salman
Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman receives US President Joe Biden at Al Salman Palace upon his arrival in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, July 15, 2022.

Hassan Behesthtipour, in a detailed interview with Ensaf News website, analyzed the recent changes in the world, the war in Ukraine, and Iran’s role and approach in the new makeup in the Middle East.

Behesthtipour said the US withdrawal from Iraq and Afghanistan confirmed its policies in the region have failed, and to make up for the failure, Washington put forward a plan to form a NATO-style military alliance in the Middle East with Iran in its crosshairs.

He, however, said Iran has a proactive policy and prepares for the worst-case scenario before it unravels.

He added Iran’s natural alliance with the resistance movements in Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, and Yemen are in line with this policy.

Despite the hostile atmosphere, he expressed optimism that several rounds of talks between Iran and Saudi Arabia would lead to the resumption of diplomatic ties between the two countries, as a prelude to a rapprochement between the Islamic Republic and the UAE, Bahrain, and Egypt.

On restoring Iran’s 2015 nuclear deal, Behesthtipour said the United States would eventually have to lift sanctions on Iran and join the agreement as it cannot find a replacement for Iran’s oil and gas supplies.

Furthermore, the Iranian political analyst said the West is seeking to cause perpetual mayhem in the region and other parts of world through various tactics, including financings its proxy wars in Yemen and Ukraine.

Also touching on the conflict in Ukraine, Behesthtipour said, although Russia is definitely the aggressor, the West’s militarism had a direct role in the war whose aftermath will spill over into the Middle East.

CNN: Russians visited Iran’s airfield in June to examine drones

Iran Drones

Iran began showcasing the Shahed-191 and Shahed-129 drones, also known as UAVs or Unmanned Aerial Vehicles, to Russia at Kashan Airfield south of Tehran in June, US officials told CNN.

Both types of drones are capable of carrying precision-guided missiles.

“We have information that the Iranian government is preparing to provide Russia with several hundred UAVs, including weapons-capable UAVs,” Sullivan told CNN in a statement.

“We assess an official Russian delegation recently received a showcase of Iranian attack-capable UAVs,” the official added.

“We are releasing these images captured in June showing Iranian UAVs that the Russian government delegation saw that day. This suggests ongoing Russian interest in acquiring Iranian attack-capable UAVs,” he continued.

Sullivan stated that to the US’ knowledge, the June visit “was the first time a Russian delegation has visited this airfield for such a showcase.”

A Russian delegation visited the airfield for a similar showcase again on July 5, the officials noted.

On Monday, Sullivan claimed that Iran was “preparing to provide Russia with up to several hundred UAVs,” including combat drones.

However, a senior defense official has confirmed the US Department of Defense has not seen intelligence to indicate that Russia is using Iranian unmanned aerial vehicles in Ukraine.

Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian did not confirm US claim that Tehran is providing Russia with military equipment, including unmanned aerial vehicles. He assured that Tehran avoids any steps that may result in an escalation in Ukraine conflict.

“We have various forms of cooperation with Russia, including in the sphere of defense, but we are not helping either side involved in the [Ukrainian] conflict because we are certain that it should be concluded. I think that currently the problem is elsewhere – some Western countries, including the US, are manufacturing arms and trying to sell their products,” Amirabdollahian said in his interview with La Repubblica newspaper, commenting on remarks by US Presidential National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan on Iran’s plans to send drones to Russia.

“We are trying to avoid any actions that may lead to an escalation. We are working on stopping this war,” the Iranian top diplomat added.

He stressed that that Tehran “will avoid any action that could lead to escalation” but we will work to stop the conflict.

Tehran’s envoy: Swedish court verdict against Iranian citizen hostile

Iranians rally outside the Swedish embassy in Tehran

In a written interview with the Swedish newspaper Expressen on Friday, Masoumifar stated that the Swedish legal system has violated the most basic principles of international law, describing the verdict against Nouri as being unfounded and politically motivated.

First and foremost, the Swedish legal system does not have jurisdiction to handle the said case since the application of international jurisdiction depends on the existence of an international crime, Masoumifar wrote in an email to the newspaper.

None of the lawyers or international lawyers believe in an international crime in this case, he added.

The email describes how the Swedish legal system has violated the most basic principles of international law and continues that due to the completely unilateral investigation carried out by the prosecutor, the lack of investigation at the alleged crime scene, not permitting the expert witnesses introduced by Mr. Nouri to testify in the court, and the plenty of contradictions in the witnesses’ testimony, the verdict lacked legal validity.

Masoumifar stated that all the witnesses heard in the courtroom are members of the Iranian opposition group Mujahideen-e Khalq (MEK), which is branded as a terrorist organization in Iran.

The organization was previously designated a terrorist organization also by the US, Canada, and the EU, the ambassador continued.

The Iranian people believe that the actions of the Swedish judiciary are hostile actions to support terrorists and enemies of the Iranian people, Masoumifar said, adding that representatives of Iran have already contacted the Swedish Government to emphasize that it was important that the Swedish legal system not be affected by political views.

Masoumifar noted in conclusion that Iran wouldn’t tolerate interference in its national affairs and the actions from any country that it considers to be harmful to the country’s sovereignty, independence, and national interests.

Nouri, who has been in solitary confinement in Sweden since 2019, was sentenced to life imprisonment by a court in Sweden on Thursday. He was arrested by Swedish police in late 2019 on baseless allegations against him by the MKO terrorist group.

The Iranian foreign ministry spokesman Nasser Kanaani has said provisions of a Swedish judiciary statement including the illegal court verdict giving life sentence to Nouri is basically unacceptable and questionable.

Kanaani stated Iran strongly condemns this political statement that entails baseless and false allegations against the Islamic Republic and its Judiciary and sentences Mr. Nouri to life imprisonment.

Iran Covid: 9 people killed, 2,704 infected

COVID in Iran

The deaths have pushed the total fatalities from the Coronavirus in the country to 141,486.
The Friday tally was 13.

The daily caseload on Saturday was also 2,704. This is while the number of new infections on Friday was 4,772.

The number of Coronavirus infections has steadily soared in Iran over the past couple of weeks.

Prior to the rise in the number of cases, daily caseload even fell below 100. The surge in the number of infections has been blamed on people relaxing health protocols because, as some observers say, people in Iran mostly thought the disease is gone.

Now reports say vaccination places are once again crowded with people turning up to get their booster shots of the Covid vaccine.

Iran’s National Coronavirus Task Force has warned about the rising number of fatalities and cases from the Covid-19 virus in the country.

“This week, the number of hospitalizations due to coronavirus infection has risen 2.5 times, and the number of weekly deaths is up 40 percent,” the spokesperson for the task force noted.

‘Biden’s Mideast trip to make revival of Iran nuclear deal harder’

US President Joe Biden

Hamid Aboutalebi, former Iranian president Hassan Rouhani’s political advisor, wrote in his Twitter account, “Finally, Saudi Arabia also joined the Abraham Accord, so that the Al-Quds statement and the I2U2 summit would be linked to the Negev Forum and the PGCC would lead to the creation of a ‘security belt to contain Iran’ under the leadership of the United States and Israel at the center.”

Biden’s trip to the Israeli-occupied territories and Saudi Arabia reportedly pursues several objectives, including briefing the authorities in Riyadh and Tel Aviv on talks to revive the 2015 nuclear accord with Iran after Washington unilaterally abandoned it in 2018 under former president Donald Trump.

Aboutalebi called on Iranian officials to adopt new policies to face the new threats.
He said the lack of understanding of the sensitivity of the developments has made the situation in the region very complicated and Iran’s standing in the world very shaky.
Aboutalebi warned, “The window of diplomacy is closing and the gate of hostility is opening”.

Iran and the West have held several rounds of inconclusive talks to restore the agreement, with both sides blaming each other for the impasse.

Iran diplomat: Biden ME tour aimed at security for Israel; we should thank him

Biden and Lapid
Israeli President Isaac Herzog looks on as Prime Minister Yair Lapid bumps fists with US President Joe Biden during a welcoming ceremony at Ben Gurion International Airport in Lod, near Tel Aviv, July 13, 2022.

“That Biden seeks to ensure the security of Israel with Arab states’ money during his trip to Saudi Arabia shows the degree of the Israeli regime’s vulnerability to the power of the front opposing normalization [of ties] and compromise [with Tel Aviv],” said Mohammad Hossein Soltanifard in a tweet.

“We should thank Mr. Biden as he frankly announced that he travelled to Israel and Saudi Arabia for the sake of oil and setting the stage for US congressional and presidential elections,” he said in another tweet.

“Biden just laughed when reporters asked him about human rights and tried to create the impression that his trip was a state visit by signing a handful of memoranda of understanding and documents,” he added.

After Biden’s meetings with Saudi authorities during his visit to Jeddah, Washington and Riyadh issued a joint statement as well as 18 joint cooperation agreements on a whole range of issues, namely energy, investment, communications, space and health.

The White House claims that Saudi Arabia has agreed to increase its crude output in July and August by 50%, while Riyadh has denied having reached any deal with Washington in that regard.

Iran police nab gang that mugged bus passengers at gun point in southern Iran

Iran Police

Colonel Sohrab Hosseinnejad, head of the police intelligence department in the southwestern province of Khuzeshtan, were the robbery happened, said the passenger bus had been stopped by what appeared to be a police car while it was travelling on the road between the cities of Ahvaz and Masjed-e Soleiman.

The armed muggers, disguised as police officers, then entered the bus, intimated the passengers and took away their belongings, he said.

Footage of the theft went viral on social media, prompting calls for a swift police response to the crime.

During a special two-stage operation, police forces identified and arrested two of the main culprits, the official added.

He said wireless phone, a Kalashnikov, a police flasher, a bulletproof vest and a fake license plate were discovered from their hideout.

Another member of the gang was also taken into custody in the second phase of the operation.

The arrestees have a history of theft and have so far confessed to four cases of armed robbery and 10 cases of violent robbery.

‘Mideast NATO mere psyop to fix morale of Arab govts. left alone by US’

President Joe Biden

In an interview with ISNA, Mohammad Sadegh Koushki said Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and others have been allies of the US in the region for years, but with President Joe Biden’s rise to power, Washington has ignored them and failed to meet their demands.

Having been failed by the US, “it seems that these governments are grappling with a vacuum of support,” he said.

Neither the US nor the Israeli regime has been serious in pursing such a regional alliance, said the commentator, adding that these Arab countries are well aware that America prioritizes its own interests, and not theirs.

“As a result, the ‘Arab NATO’ plan for the Middle East is nothing but a psychological operation [by the Arab countries themselves] to repair their own morale,” he said.

Koushki said the US has run military bases in Persian Gulf states for many years, but despite all the extensive military cooperation, the US-allied Arab regimes have failed to take any action against Iran.

The Arab regimes, he added, “have repeatedly said that ‘the US has left us alone.’

Iranian paper blasts Sadr’s call for unity

Supporters of Muqtada Sadr in prayer rally in Iraq

Sader announced for the umpteenth time recently that he had quit politics, wrote Kayhan.

Still, added the paper, he announced last Thursday that he would lead Friday Prayers to promote solidarity among Iraqis at a time when national unity is on shaky ground.

In a tweet, said Kayhan, Sadr descried Friday Prayers as pure worshipping and noted he would either lead the prayers himself or send a representative on his behalf.

He said the voice of Friday Prayers is louder than any other voice, the newspaper further said.

Nevertheless, Kayhan emphasized, given Sadr’s past record, it seems his decision to hold such prayers could, ironically enough, provoke tension.

In a statement, according to the paper, Sadr announced his decision to lead the Friday Prayers aimed to boost unity.

“But this statement had no indication of invitation to unity,” added Kayhan.

The paper blasted Sadr for not explaining why he, every now and then, bids farewell to politics, but returns to the arena of politics later on with more controversies.
