Iran Welcomes Formation of Executive Council in Libya

Iran’s foreign ministry spokesman has welcomed the formation of a temporary executive council in Libya.

In a statement on Saturday, Saeed Khatibzadeh embraced the outcome of political talks between Libyan sides in Geneva, expressing hope the new government will set the stage for holding elections.

He also said he hopes the new government will prepare the ground for establishing stability, tranquility, growth and development in Libya based on national sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity, and without any foreign interference.

The UN-led Libyan Political Dialogue Forum (LPDF) selected an interim Prime Minister and President of its new executive council, marking what the UN Special Representative called another “historic moment” on the road to unification of the war-torn country and national elections in December.
