IRGC confirms martyrdom of top commander in Israel’s attack

Abbas Nilforooshan

Nilforooshan, senior commander of the IRGC Quds Force and commander of the IRGC in Lebanon, has been pronounced martyred in the Israeli attack that targeted a number of residential buildings in Beirut’s densely populated southern suburb of Dahiyeh on September 27.

The IRGC has, in a statement, strongly condemned the Zionist regime’s crimes in Lebanon, expressing condolences to Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, the family of the martyr, and the Iranian people.

In a message on Saturday, Ayatollah Khamenei offered condolences on the martyrdom of Nasrallah, the longtime leader of the Lebanese Hezbollah resistance movement, who was assassinated in the massive Israeli airstrike on Beirut.

Ayatollah Khamenei stressed that the evil Zionist regime failed to achieve victory in this incident.

The Leader said the Hezbollah chief “was not just a person, but rather he was a path and a school of thought and this path will continue”.

Iran denounces US complicity in Nasrallah murder

In a post on his X account on Saturday night, Araghchi said he has reminded the United Nations of its responsibility to rein in the Israeli regime at a meeting with United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres.

“In meeting with UNSG, stressed that Security Council’s inaction -due to obstructions of US and other Israel supporters- is a major cause of ongoing atrocities and adventurism by the illegitimate Israeli regime,” the Iranian foreign minister said.

“Nevertheless, UNSG’s legal and moral responsibilities under the UN Charter oblige him (Guterres) to be a voice of the international community against aggression and genocide, and to use powers under the Charter to mobilize decisive action to reign in the aggressor. I reminded UNSG that the US is certainly complicit in Israel’s crimes and aggression in Gaza and Lebanon. I noted specifically that Lebanese resistance leader Seyyed Hassan Nasrallah was martyred in an operation involving US-gifted 5,000-pound bunker-busters,” he added.

“Iran is determined in its defense of its vital national and security interests and in countering the Israeli regime’s vicious actions. Iran stands with Lebanon,” Araghchi stated.

In a message on X, Araghchi said the late leader of Hezbollah was a noble martyr whose sacrifice guarantees the continuation of the resistance movement’s just cause.

Pointing to the recent Israeli escalation in the region, the Iranian foreign minister added the assassination of resistance leaders only reaffirms the unshakable truth that the evil, genocidal occupying entity of the Zionist regime will never establish roots in our region.

Pezeshkian condemns US complicity in Israel’s assassination of Nasrallah

Masoud Pezeshkian

In his message, President Pezeshkian condemned the Zionist terrorist attack on Dahiyeh and noted that the martyrdom of notable figures, particularly Seyyed Hassan Nasrallah, will further fortify the righteous tree of resistance.

He added that Seyyed Hassan Nasrallah’s name will forever shine at the forefront of Islam.

The Iranian president emphasized that the international community will not forget that the order for the attack on Beirut came from New York, asserting that the Americans cannot absolve themselves of complicity with the Zionists.

The leader of Hezbollah was martyred in massive Israeli airstrikes on the Dahiyeh area, South of the Lebanese capital, Beirut. The order to carry out the strike was given by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu while he was in New York, USA.

Hezbollah has confirmed the killing of Nasrallah in a massive air attack on a densely populated neighbourhood of Beirut on Friday evening that reduced several residential buildings to rubble.

The group pledged to keep up the fight against Israel “in support of Gaza and Palestine, and in defence of Lebanon and its steadfast and honourable people”.

Nasrallah, 64, led the Iran-backed group for more than 32 years, serving as a political and spiritual leader who guided Hezbollah to a place of prominence in Lebanon.

Among his supporters, the powerful leader was lauded for standing up to Israel and defying the United States.

Nasrallah’s death is a major blow to Hezbollah, which has been hit by a wave of unprecedented attacks in recent weeks, including pager and walkie-talkie detonations targeting its members.

More than 720 people have been killed in Lebanon since the conflict escalated on Monday, according to Lebanon’s Health Ministry.

Ayatollah Khamenei says Zionists too insignificant to damage Hezbollah

Ayatollah Khamenei

In a message issued on Saturday, Ayatollah Khamenei referred to the recent developments in the region, saying that the merciless onslaught against the defenseless people of Lebanon once again revealed the savage nature of the rabid dog Zionists and demonstrated the short-sightedness and foolishness of the policies of the heads of the occupying Zionist regime.

The Supreme Leader pointed to the Israeli regime’s ongoing crimes in Gaza, stating that the terrorist bond ruling the Zionist regime has not learned a lesson from its criminal war on Gaza over the past year.

He emphasized that through the mass killing of women, children, and civilians, they cannot affect the well-built structure of the resistance organization or bring it down.

Ayatollah Khamenei reiterated that all forces belonging to the Resistance in the region will stand by Hezbollah and support it.

He asserted that the fate of the region will be determined by the Resistance forces, with Hezbollah at the forefront.

The Supreme Leader pointed out that, with the help of Almighty God, Hezbollah will make the vicious and aggressive enemy regret its actions.

Ayatollah Khamenei also called on all Muslims to stand by the Lebanese people and Hezbollah in the face of the occupying Zionist regime, using all their resources.

Iran spokesperson: Inaction against Israel’s crimes will backfire on everyone

In a recent post on his X social media account on Saturday, Nasser Kanaani stated, “The monster of Zionism is a threat to the whole world.”

He added, “In light of the inaction by governments and international assemblies, particularly the UN Security Council, concerning the Zionist regime’s horrific and unprecedented crimes in Palestine and Lebanon, and the United States’ full military, political, and economic support for this criminal regime, the role of nations in supporting Palestine and Lebanon is key and decisive.”

Kanaani further warned, “The consequences of the world’s inaction towards the atrocious and rebellious crimes of the Israeli regime will soon be felt globally.”

His remarks came a day after the Israeli regime escalated its violent actions in southern Lebanon, reportedly resulting in the deaths of hundreds of people.

Israeli missiles and drones targeted Shia-populated areas in southern Beirut after the Lebanese resistance movement rose in defense of Palestinians in Gaza, where approximately 42,000 people, primarily women and children, have been killed in what has been described as genocide by the Israeli regime.

Israel claims Hezbollah leader killed in Beirut attack

“Hassan Nasrallah will no longer be able to terrorise the world,” the Israeli military said in a statement on Saturday.

Ali Karki, the commander of Hezbollah’s southern front, and additional Hezbollah commanders were also killed in the massive air strike in Beirut’s southern suburb of Dahiyeh, the Israeli military added.

The Lebanese Health Ministry announced a total of six people were killed and 91 injured in the bombardment, which levelled six apartment buildings. Israeli air raids continued to hammer Beirut’s southern suburbs and other areas of Lebanon into Saturday.

Nasrallah, 64, had led the Iran-backed group for more than three decades, serving as a political and spiritual leader who guided Hezbollah to a place of prominence in Lebanon.

US outlines withdrawal plans from Iraq

US Forces

After intensive discussions between the Iraqi Higher Military Commission, the US, and the international coalition, the American military mission will transition to a bilateral security partnership, according to the joint statement published by the US State Department on Friday. This phaseout will occur over the next twelve months, concluding no later than September 2025.

However, the coalition forces’ occupation of the oil-rich areas of neighboring Syria will continue until at least September 2026 to “prevent the return of Daesh terrorist threat”, the statement added.

A commission will work on the mechanisms needed to facilitate the transition and “ensure the physical protection of Coalition advisors present in Iraq”, it stated.

The Pentagon emphasized that while the US mission is changing, it does not constitute a full withdrawal.

“Our footprint is going to be changing within the country,” Pentagon spokesperson Sabrina Singh told reporters during a press briefing on Friday.

“No, the US is not withdrawing from Iraq,” she added.

Baghdad has been in formal negotiations toward the withdrawal of US troops for at least nine months, with similar calls from Iraqi officials ongoing for years.

Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani told Bloomberg TV in an interview last week that Iraq no longer needs US troops on its territory.

“Iraq in 2024 is not the same as Iraq in 2014,” he said, adding, “We have moved on from wars to stability.”

The US invaded Iraq in 2003 without UN sanction, claiming the state possessed weapons of mass destruction – a claim later found to be false. The US “shock and awe” bombing campaign devastated large swathes of Iraq and toppled Saddam Hussein’s government, leaving the country in chaos and creating a fertile ground for extremists such as Daesh.

Following the spread of the terrorist group across parts of Syria and Iraq in 2014, US troops returned to the country. Coalition military operations wrapped up in 2021, leaving approximately 2,500 American service members as an enduring presence in Iraq.

US hesitation to leave may be linked to fears of similar disastrous consequences of the US withdrawal from Afghanistan, Bloomberg noted. In recent months, US troops have been wounded by missile attacks on American military sites in Iraq and Syria amid heightened tensions related to the Israeli campaign in Gaza.
