FM Araghchi: US provided air corridor to Israel in aggression on Iran

In an interview with Iran’s state-run IRIB television on Sunday, Araghchi slammed Washington’s complicity in the Israeli raid that targeted Iranian military sites in three provinces of Tehran, Khuzestan and Ilam and left four Iranian Army officers killed.

The foreign minister pointed out that international condemnations are pouring in, saying “Since yesterday, we have received numerous messages and statements from various countries slamming Israel’s attack on Iranian military centers.”

Araghchi also mentioned that Iran has formally registered the attack with the UN Secretary General and requested an urgent UN Security Council meeting.

He, however, expressed skepticism about the Security Council’s ability to take an effective measure due to the influence of the US and other countries, but stressed that Iran has fulfilled its duty by documenting the aggression and seeking international response.

Araghchi reiterated that Israel cannot conduct such operations without US coordination, asserting that all crimes in Gaza, Lebanon, and other areas have been carried out with American weapons and political support, making the US complicit in Israel’s actions.

He stated that the US’s participation in Israel’s crimes and regional destabilization is evident, and it bears shared responsibility for these actions.

Senior journalist: Iran’s response to Israeli aggression must be severe

Iran Missile Attack Israel

In an article titled “We Saw Your Rain, Now Wait for Our Flood,” the managing director and chief editor of Kayhan newspaper, Hossein Shariatmadari, emphasized that the response should be much stronger than Iran’s previous operation against Israel in October, dubbed True Promise II.

Shariatmadari argued that any leniency in responding to the aggression would invite further attacks from the US and Israel, leading to devastating consequences for Iran.

He undermined Israel’s recent attack on Tehran, Ilam, and Khuzestan provinces, which he described as a failure, highlighting that Iran’s air defenses successfully intercepted many of the incoming missiles, and the attack did not achieve its intended results.

Shariatmadari reminded that during the Iran-Iraq war in the 80s, Iran stood against 36 powerful countries with limited resources, noting that today, Iran’s military capabilities have significantly improved, with hypersonic missiles capable of reaching all of Europe.

Arguing that Israel does not have an independent identity and acts as a military base for the US in the region, the journalist called for targeting American interests and military personnel in response to Israeli aggression, as they are the primary supporters of Israel’s actions.

In conclusion, Shariatmadari warned any hesitation in responding to Israel’s aggression would only embolden the US and Israel to continue their attacks on Iran.

WHO warns condition in northern Gaza ‘catastrophic’

World Health Organisation (WHO)

Posting to X on Saturday, he said “a critical shortage of medical supplies, compounded by severely limited access, are depriving people of life saving care” in the north of the Palestinian territory.

His comments came after Israeli forces withdrew from Kamal Adwan hospital in northern Gaza earlier on Saturday, a day after storming it.

The siege “came at a heavy cost”, Tedros added.

The WHO chief stated 44 male hospital staff had been detained, leaving only female staff, the hospital director and one male doctor to care for nearly 200 patients “in desperate need of medical attention”.

“Reports of the hospital facilities and medical supplies being damaged or destroyed during the siege are deplorable,” Tedros wrote.

The whole health system in Gaza has been under attack for over a year. WHO cannot stress loudly enough that hospitals must be shielded from conflict at all times. Any attack of healthcare facilities is a violation of international humanitarian law.

Flouting a UN Security Council resolution demanding an immediate cease-fire, Israel has continued a devastating offensive on Gaza since an attack last year by the Palestinian resistance group Hamas.

Nearly 43,000 people have since been killed, mostly women and children, and over 100,000 others injured, according to local health authorities.

Israel also faces a genocide case at the International Court of Justice for its actions in Gaza.

Iran’s nuclear facilities not impacted in Israeli raids: UN

Rafael Grossi

“IAEA inspectors are safe and continue their vital work. I call for prudence and restraint from actions that could jeopardise the safety and security of nuclear and other radioactive materials,” Grossi wrote on X.

The Israeli army targeted military centers in the Iranian provinces of Tehran, Khuzestan, and Ilam in the early hours of Saturday despite warnings from Iran that any adventurism by Israeli would face a harsh response.

Iran announced its air defense system intercepted and countered the attacks, with limited damage reported in some areas.

The extent of the incident is currently under investigation.

Iran’s UN mission says US ‘complicit’ in Israeli attack

In a statement released on its official account on X (formerly Twitter) on Saturday, the Iranian mission noted that Israeli fighter jets conducted the attacks from Iraqi airspace, approximately 70 miles from the Iranian border.

“The Iraqi airspace is under the occupation, command, and control of the US military,” the statement asserted.

It concluded that “US complicity in this crime is certain”.

The Iranian Air Defense Forces said early Saturday morning that the country’s integrated air defense system successfully intercepted and countered the Israeli strikes targeting military locations in Tehran, Khuzestan, and Ilam provinces.

The attacks caused limited damage in some locations and the dimensions of the incident are under investigation, the statement added.

In a separate statement on Saturday, the Iranian Foreign Ministry condemned the Israeli air raids as a blatant violation of international law and the UN Charter, reiterating the country’s right to defend itself against foreign acts of aggression.

Iran parliament speaker vows decisive response to Israeli aggression

Iranian parliament speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf

In an open session on Sunday, Ghalibaf stated that comparing Iran’s Operation True Promise II on Israeli military and intelligence sites inside the occupied territories in October with Israel’s military aggression on Saturday clearly demonstrates the deterrent power of Iran’s defense forces.

He described Israel’s relatively weak military action against Iran as “a sign of desperation, resulting in another failure for the regime.”

The parliament speaker, however, reiterated that Article 51 of the United Nations Charter entitles Iran to defend itself and respond to the aggression “decisively and appropriately.”

Four Iranian military officers were killed in the Israeli attacks. The Iranian Air Defense announced that minor damage was inflicted on some radar systems.

Ghalibaf warned the United States, as Israel’s “main supporter and partner in all its war crimes,” to restrain Israel and enforce a sustainable ceasefire to prevent further instability in the region.

He also urged neighboring countries to condemn Israel’s aggressive actions and emphasized that regional stability can only be achieved through collective cooperation.

Harris calls for Iran-Israel ‘de-escalation’

Kamala Harris

“I feel very strongly, we as the United States feel very strongly that Iran must stop what it is doing in terms of the threat that it presents to the region and we will always defend Israel against any attacks by Iran in that way,” she told reporters in Michigan.

Earlier, US President Joe Biden had expressed hope that the Israeli air raids on Iran marks the end of a period of escalation in West Asia.

“It looks like they didn’t hit anything other than military targets. My hope is this is the end,” he told reporters in Philadelphia,

He said that he spent time earlier Saturday being briefed by the intelligence community. The president added he did receive a heads up ahead of the Israeli strikes.

Biden administration officials have announced the US was not directly involved with the strike, but had been consulting closely with Israel.

President Pezeshkian condoles deaths of 4 Iranian soldiers killed in Israeli attacks

Masoud Pezeshkian

“Enemies of Iran should know these brave people are standing fearlessly in defence of their land and will respond to any stupidity with tact and intelligence,” Pezeshkian wrote on X.

At least four soldiers were killed in a wave of Israeli attacks across the country.

The strikes targeted parts of military sites in the capital Tehran as well as the western and southwestern provinces of Ilam and Khuzestan, with Iran’s air defense saying the attacks were “successfully intercepted and countered”.

The attacks caused “limited damage” in some locations and the dimensions of the incident are under investigation, it added.

Iran calls for urgent UN Security Council meeting following Israeli aggression

UN Security Council

Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister for Legal and International Affairs Kazem Gharibabadi shared excerpts from Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi’s letter to the UN Secretary General and Security Council members on X social media platform, revealing the serious nature of the attacks.

The letter reads, “Despite Iran’s air defense systems intercepting most of the missiles, four Iranian army officers were martyred while bravely defending the nation’s security.”

“The Islamic Republic of Iran condemns the Zionist regime’s deliberate aggressions in strongest terms. These illegal attacks by the Israeli regime violate fundamental principles of international law and the United Nations Charter, particularly Article 2, Paragraph 4,” it added.

The letter has also warns that Israel’s actions pose a serious threat to international peace and security, leading to further regional instability.

In line with the principles of the United Nations Charter and international law, Iran maintains its inherent right to respond legally and appropriately to the criminal attacks at a suitable time, the foreign minister has asserted in his message.

“Given the continuous and systematic aggressions by the Israeli regime, Iran has urged the UN Secretary General and the Security Council to take a firm stance and explicitly and strongly condemn the Israeli regime for these aggressive actions,” the letter further reads.

Hezbollah orders ‘immediate’ evacuation of several settlements in northern Israel

Israeli Settlers

In a video message posted on Telegram, Hezbollah addressed residents directly, stating, “You are requested to evacuate immediately. Your settlements have become a place for the deployment and stability of enemy military forces that are attacking Lebanon. As a result, they have become legitimate military targets for the air and missile power of the Islamic resistance.”

The settlements included Kiryat Shmona, Yasod HaMa’ala, Ayelet HaShachar, Hatzor HaGalilit, Karmiel, Ma’alot Tarshiha, Even Menachem, Nahariya, Rosh Pina, Shamir, Sha’al, Miron, Kabri, Abirim, Dalton, Nefat Ziv, Qatzrin, Kfar Hananya, Manot, Beit HaAmik, Kfar Vradim, Harashim, Birya, Kfar Tzvi and Bar Yohai.

Israel has mounted a huge air campaign in Lebanon since last month against what it claims are Hezbollah targets, in an escalation from a year of cross-border warfare between Israel and Hezbollah since the start of Israel’s offensive on the Gaza Strip.

Israel expanded the conflict this year by launching a ground assault into southern Lebanon on Oct. 1.

More than 2,650 people have been killed and over 12,300 others injured in Israeli aggression since last year, according to Lebanese health authorities.
