In an article published in China’s People’s Daily, Araghchi expressed pride in the opportunity to visit Beijing for consultations with his Chinese counterpart, Wang Yi.

He praised the historical and comprehensive nature of Iran-China relations, which “have been strengthened by mutual respect, justice, equality, and non-interference.”

Araghchi noted that the two countries have increased their political solidarity and mutual trust through a 25-year comprehensive cooperation program.

He emphasized the importance of multilateralism and collective cooperation for the prosperity of the global community, highlighting Iran and China’s shared commitment to the principles.

The Iranian foreign minister also addressed the regional developments, including the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, and condemned the Israeli genocide supported by Western powers and the inaction of the international community.

As for Syria, he said that the future of the Arab country should be determined solely by its people, without any external interference.

Araghchi is scheduled to visit China on Friday to exchange views on regional and international developments as well as the implementation process of the Iran-China comprehensive cooperation document.

Iran border  commander reports discovery of 3k weapons before entry into the country

Brigadier General Ahmad Ali Goudarzi said this on Thursday evening during a visit to the border areas of the Namin County at the Iran-Azerbaijan Republic border. He also added that during this period, more than 100,000 smugglers have been arrested by border guards and handed over to Iranian judicial authorities.

General Goudarzi highlighted the efforts of his forces to secure Iran’s borders, noting that over 1.2 million foreign nationals attempting to illegally enter Iran’s borders have been identified and returned from the country.

Regarding the border forces’ activities in combating drug trafficking, the commander stated that vigilance in this area has been intensified, and this year, over 30 tons of various drugs have been discovered and seized from traffickers. He added that Iranian border guards managed to size over 2 tons and 100 kilograms of crystal meth from drug traffickers in a single incident.

This Iranian military commander asserted that the borders between Iran and Azerbaijan are secure and face minimal challenges, thanks to the strengthening of border diplomacy in recent years.

Iran becomes observer member of Eurasian Economic Union

Iran’s observer membership in the Eurasian Economic Union was confirmed during a summit of the member states’ leaders. This meeting took place on Thursday in Saint Petersburg, Russia.

Mohammad Atabak, Iran’s Minister of Industry, Mine and Trade, who represented Iran at this meeting, met with Vladimir Putin, the President of Russia, on the sidelines of the summit. They discussed the development of economic, trade, and industrial cooperation between the two countries, as well as interactions within the framework of the Eurasian Union.

In his speech at the Supreme Council meeting of the Eurasian Economic Union, the Iranian Minister welcomed the union’s decision to grant observer status to the Islamic Republic of Iran, considering it a foundation for further cooperation between Iran and the members of this union.

He added, “I am confident that this meeting will be a turning point in the expanding relationship between Iran and the member countries of the Eurasian Economic Union.”With Iran’s observer membership in this union, an effective step has been taken towards implementing the Iranian government’s strategy to expand interactions and trade exchanges with neighboring countries and the region through the conclusion of important regional treaties and agreements.

This opens up an $800 billion market for Iranian economic actors and the private sector.

Access to new markets in the Eurasian Economic Union, as well as the facilitation of exporting goods and services from Iran to the members of this union, are among the other advantages of Iran’s membership in this body. The Eurasian Union is an intergovernmental economic union comprising Belarus, Kazakhstan, Russia, Kyrgyzstan, and Armenia. The observer members of this union include Uzbekistan, Moldova, and Cuba. The foundation of this union was laid about 10 years ago in 2014.

Iran raps Israel’s military aggression against Yemen

Esmaeil Baqaei said these attacks, carried out with the backing and complicity of the United States and the United Kingdom, are flagrant violations of all international norms and principles, particularly the United Nations Charter and international law.

Baqaei described the repeated assaults by the Zionist regime, the U.S., and the U.K. on Yemen’s civilian infrastructure as part of the sinister policy of the occupying regime to devastate and weaken Islamic nations. The Foreign Ministry Spokesperson urged the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and other regional and international bodies to take immediate action on this matter.

He emphasized that these aggressions constitute a blatant violation of international peace and security and an undeniable crime against the courageous and honorable people of Yemen, who have spared no effort in supporting the oppressed people of Palestine in their struggle against occupation and genocide.Baqaei criticized the United Nations’ inaction in the face of the Zionist regime’s escalating lawlessness and atrocities as contrary to the responsibilities and obligations of the UN under its Charter.

Three infants freeze to death in Gaza amid Israeli blockade

Doctors reported on Wednesday that a three-week-old girl froze to death overnight as temperatures plummeted amid a wet winter across the war-battered Palestinian enclave.

The baby’s tent was not sealed against the wind and the ground was cold, the doctors said.

On Thursday, another baby, Sila Mahmoud al-Faseeh, was found unresponsive. By the time doctors reached her, her lungs had deteriorated and she was declared dead from hypothermia.

“In the morning, when her mother was going to breastfeed her again, we found her blue, with blood coming from her mouth due to the cold,” her father said in a video shared online, holding her in a white shroud with her purple lips visible against her pale face.

“She had bitten her tongue and was frozen.”

The baby “froze to death from the extreme cold” in al-Mawasi, wrote Dr Munir al-Bursh, director general of the Palestinian Ministry of Health, on X.

In another post, he described the tents in Gaza as “fridges of death”, citing the deaths of two other babies due to the bitter cold.

According to Ahmed al-Farra, head of paediatrics and obstetrics at Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis, the infants were a three-day-old and a one-month-old baby.

The deaths underline the dire conditions in Gaza, where hundreds of thousands of displaced Palestinians are packed into derelict makeshift tents, fleeing Israeli shelling in different parts of the strip.

The Israeli military has occupied and besieged Gaza since October 2023, blocking nearly all necessary life-saving supplies – including electricity, clean water, fuel, food, medicine and tents – from reaching civilians.

Israeli forces have killed at least 45,300 Palestinians in Gaza since 7 October last year, according to the latest figures from the Palestinian health ministry. The majority of those killed are women and children.

Dozens more have died due to the harsh conditions imposed by the Israeli army, including starvation, lack of medical care and hypothermia.

On Tuesday, the United Nations agency for Palestinian refugees, UNRWA, issued a damning statement, revealing that a child is killed in Gaza every hour amid the relentless Israeli assault.

“They are not just numbers; they are lives lost in a short time without any justification,” the agency stated, highlighting the devastating toll of Israel’s actions.

In a post on X, the agency emphasised the harrowing plight of Gaza’s children, many of whom are physically and emotionally scarred. Those who survive endure the trauma of displacement, are deprived of education and are left scavenging for food among the ruins of their homes.

UNRWA revealed that at least 14,500 children have been killed during the conflict, calling for an immediate end to the war.

“The killing of children cannot be justified,” the agency stressed, urging global action to end the bloodshed.

Israeli killing of Gaza journalists ‘war crime’: Iran

“The occupying forces’ attack on the journalists’ vehicle is undoubtedly a war crime,” Baqaei said on Thursday.

He added that journalists and media personnel working in conflict zones are considered to be civilians and must therefore be immune from any attack under the international humanitarian law.

The Iranian spokesman called on the International Court of Justice to add Israel’s latest crime to the regime’s case of genocide regarding its criminal acts in the occupied Palestine.

He pointed to the killing of more than 200 journalists during 15 months of Israel’s genocidal war in Gaza and emphasized that it falls within the regime’s bids to stop awareness of the global public opinion about the extent of the crimes committed against the Palestinian people.

The Iranian diplomat warned that the continuation of Israel’s blatant violations of the international humanitarian law in Gaza and lack of an appropriate response from relevant responsible global bodies in dealing with such crimes could seriously discredit international norms and rules pertaining to war.

Israel has continued a genocidal war on Gaza that has killed nearly 45,400 people, most of them women and children, since a cross-border attack by the Palestinian group Hamas on Oct. 7, 2023.

Last month, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza.

Israel is also facing a genocide case at the International Court of Justice for its actions in Gaza.

Syria’s new rulers say 14 policemen killed in ambush by forces loyal to ex-gov’t

Interior Minister Mohammed Abdul Rahman said on Thursday that “remnants” of the al-Assad government in Tartous had killed 14 police members and wounded 10 others, promising to crack down on “anyone who dares to undermine Syria’s security or endanger the lives of its citizens”.

Security forces launched an operation on Thursday against pro-Assad “militias” in Tartous, state news agency SANA reported, with the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights monitor reporting arrests of several persons in connection with the deadly ambush.

The operation had already succeeded in “neutralising a certain number” of armed men loyal to toppled president al-Assad, SANA added.

The attack came as protests took place in several cities after a video showing the vandalising of an Alawite shrine in the city of Aleppo circulated online on Wednesday. Police had imposed curfews in Homs, Latakia, Jableh and Tartous until 8am (05:00 GMT).

The Interior Ministry announced on its official Telegram account that the video, which showed armed men walking inside the shrine and posing near human bodies, dated back to the rebel offensive on Aleppo in late November.

The ministry noted the violence was carried out by unknown groups, adding whoever was circulating the video now appeared to be seeking to incite sectarian strife.

State media reported citing residents of Homs that demonstrations in the city were led by members of the minority Alawite and Shia Muslim religious communities.

Some residents said the demonstrations were linked to pressure and violence in recent days aimed at members of the Alawite minority, a sect long seen as loyal to al-Assad, who was toppled by opposition fighters led by the Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) group earlier this month.

Al-Assad, who took over as president after his father died in 2000, fled to Russia after opposition fighters captured Damascus on December 8, ending more than five decades of Baath party rule.

The country’s new leaders have repeatedly promised to protect minority religious groups, who fear for their rights under the new administration.

Several people are believed to have been killed and wounded in a separate attack by the former government forces in the coastal region, according to the Interior Ministry.

IRGC says Yemeni strikes changed Israel’s calculations

Yemen Houthi

Brigadier General Ali Mohammad Naeini, who is also the head of the IRGC’s Public Relations Department, made the remarks on Thursday amid the Israeli regime’s onslaught against Syria and Yemen’s constant air attacks on the occupied territories.

“The powerful measures by Yemen’s Ansarullah movement showed that the resistance front is self-reliant and independent in various fields and enjoys unparalleled capabilities to respond to the crimes of the Zionist regime,” he said.

He added that global media are targeting the resistance and disseminating propaganda against it in order to silence its voice.

The IRGC commander stressed the need to form a broad media front to confront movement opposing the resistance front in an innovative way.

Yemenis have declared their open support for Palestine’s struggle against the Israeli occupation since the regime launched its devastating war on Gaza on October 7, 2023, which has so far killed at least 45,300 Palestinians, mostly women and children.

Ansarullah has been also targeting ships linked to Israel, the United States, and the United Kingdom to force an end to the Tel Aviv regime’s genocidal war on Gaza.

The Yemeni Armed Forces have stressed they will not stop their attacks until Israel’s ground and aerial offensives in Gaza end.

EU members skeptical about sending peacekeepers to Ukraine: RFE/RL

Russia Ukraine War

“There are two reasons why you shouldn’t believe that European soldiers will be on Ukrainian territory. First, the Russians will not accept it. Second, it will be hard to sell this to the European population,” an unnamed EU diplomat told the news agency.

The diplomat added that sending Western troops to “die in Ukraine” would play into the hands of the “populists”.

RFE/RL quoted another unnamed EU official as saying the deployment of foreign soldiers remains a long shot.

“It is a good idea. However, it is enough to look at the skepticism in the Czech Republic and Poland – the countries expected to provide many soldiers – to see that it will be a hard sell,” the source said.

An EU diplomat told RFE/RL that Ukraine can expect “a rough landing” in the coming year.

“There are no good scenarios,” the source added, suggesting that the conflict is heading towards something similar to the 2014-2015 Minsk agreements, which temporarily ended the large-scale fighting in Donbass.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has cited Kiev’s failure to implement the Minsk accords as one of the root causes of the conflict. Both Russia and Ukraine have so far rejected the idea of an unconditional ceasefire.

According to multiple news reports, European leaders have discussed potentially dispatching peacekeepers after a ceasefire is reached.

Politico reported that presidents Emmanuel Macron of France and Donald Tusk of Poland planned to exchange views on the matter during a meeting in Warsaw earlier this month. Tusk later told journalists that Poland had no plans for such actions. French officials previously floated the idea of sending military instructors and personnel that could help with demining.

Russia has warned that it would treat Western soldiers in Ukraine as legitimate targets. Putin has stated that foreign military aid to Kiev is already tantamount to the direct participation of NATO in the conflict.

Biden directs Pentagon to ‘continue its surge’ of arms deliveries to Ukraine

Joe Biden

Russia launched 78 missiles and 106 drones on Dec. 25, striking multiple cities and causing damage. Kharkiv endured “massive fire” from ballistic missiles, leaving six injured, according to local authorities.

Biden condemned the attacks and pledged continued support for Ukraine until it defeats Russian aggression.

“The Ukrainian people deserve to live in peace and safety,” Biden said.

He added that hundreds of air defense missiles have already been sent to Ukraine in recent months, with additional deliveries underway.

Biden reaffirmed the US commitment to bolstering Ukraine’s defenses.

“The United States will continue to work tirelessly to strengthen Ukraine’s position in its defense against Russian forces,” he stated.

The strikes on Dec. 25 caused significant damage, prompting emergency blackouts in several Oblasts of Ukraine.

Ukraine’s largest private energy company, DTEK, confirmed that Russian strikes severely damaged equipment at thermal power plants, though the locations were not disclosed.

President-elect Donald Trump’s nominee for Ukraine peace envoy, Keith Kellogg, also criticized the assault, calling Christmas a “time of peace”.
