President Pezeshkian says Palestinians shattered illusion of grandeur of world powers

“The Palestinian nation’s 15-month resistance resulted in the breaking of the grandeur of major powers as the innocent people’s blood was shed,” he told Nakhalah in Tehran late Wednesday.

He also congratulated the Palestinian resistance groups and people on their victory over the Zionist enemy and condoled with them over the martyrdom of numerous civilians, as well as resistance commanders and fighters.

The sacrifices made by the Palestinian nation exposed the true nature of Israel and its supporters, who will always bear the stain of shame for their crimes, he emphasized.

Israel unleashed its bloody Gaza onslaught on October 7, 2023, after the Palestinian Hamas resistance group carried out a historic operation against the usurping entity in retaliation for its intensified atrocities against the Palestinian people.

Israel was forced to agree to a Gaza ceasefire after the regime failed to achieve its objectives of freeing captives and eliminating Hamas despite killing at least 48,297 Palestinians, mostly women and children.

The Tel Aviv regime accepted Hamas’s longstanding negotiation terms under the Gaza truce, which began on January 19.

Also in his remarks, Pezeshkian warned of efforts by the enemies to sow discord among Muslim nations and exploit their disputes, urging them to unite and put aside their differences.

Pezeshkian further reaffirmed Iran’s unwavering support for the Palestinian nation and the Islamic resistance.

“All Muslim states should stand side by side and assist the Palestinian nation and the residents of Gaza with the reconstruction of the territory,” he added.

Nakhalah, for his part, offered his gratitude to the Islamic Republic for its all-out support and appreciated the bravery of the fighters of Lebanon’s Hezbollah resistance movement.

Since the October 7 anti-Israel operation, the Islamic Jihad has stood by Hamas and other resistance groups, he said.

The Palestinian official further called for vigilance against Israel, saying the regime is today seeking to achieve political gains amid its failure in the battlefield in Gaza.

Iran’s atomic energy organization rejects IAEA chief remarks as politically motivated, repetitive

IAEA Grossi

It argues that some of Grossi’s recent positions, particularly his latest comments regarding Iran, lack these essential qualities, raising concerns that the IAEA may be compromising its credibility by straying from its professional and impartial stance.

The AEOI further asserts that in a situation where the United States and certain Western countries seek to misuse the IAEA as a tool to exert unjust pressure on Iran, such politically motivated and unprofessional remarks could serve as justification for their illegitimate demands.

The statement specifically points to Grossi’s recent press conference in Japan, where he suggested that Iran needs to prove it is not pursuing nuclear weapons, as an example of his lack of professionalism.

The statement notes that while Iran’s nuclear facilities account for less than three percent of the world’s nuclear infrastructure, they are subject to nearly a quarter of the IAEA’s total inspections.

The organization called for an end to Grossi’s “politically motivated and repetitive” rhetoric, which it deemed inappropriate for his position.

Grossi, in a recent press conference in Tokyo, claimed that the 2015 nuclear agreement (JCPOA) is no longer effective. He stated, “The JCPOA is an empty shell. I don’t think anyone believes that this agreement currently plays a role.”

Grossi further argued that the deal is now “technically obsolete and no longer serves its original purpose.”

Iran’s interior minister: Removing unauthorized foreign nationals government priority

Afghan Refugee

He stated that the first step is to remove unauthorized migrants, but this process must be handled carefully to avoid straining relations with neighboring countries.

Momeni reiterated that while physical border barriers alone cannot completely resolve the issue, they slow down and regulate the movement of individuals.

He also highlighted the need to increase penalties for employers hiring unauthorized workers and introduce measures that make illegal migration less viable.

The Iranian government has been tightening border security and introducing stricter labor regulations in response to concerns over economic pressure and job displacement attributed to unauthorized foreign labor.

However, officials stress that these policies must be implemented without causing diplomatic tensions with neighboring countries.

Meanwhile, there has been growing frustration among the Iranian public, with increasing calls for the government to take stronger action in removing undocumented foreign nationals from the country, particularly Afghan migrants.

Hamas hands over bodies of 4 Israeli captives

The bodies of Shiri Bibas, and her two children; Ariel and Kfir, and Oded Lifshitz were handed over to Red Cross representatives in Khan Younis city in the southern Gaza Strip.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office confirmed that the army and the Shin Bet domestic security service received caskets containing the four bodies from the Red Cross.

It added the bodies will be identified at the Health Ministry’s Abu Kabir National Center of Forensic Medicine, after which an official notification will be given to their families.

Ahead of the handover, Hamas placed four black caskets on a stage in Khan Younis, behind which a banner was displayed depicting Netanyahu as Dracula, the infamous vampire, positioned above images of the Bibas family and Lifshitz.

Hamas has accused the Israeli government of killing the four hostages in deadly Israeli bombardment in the Gaza Strip.

Thursday’s handover of bodies will be followed by the return of six living captives on Saturday, in exchange for hundreds more Palestinians, expected to be women and minors detained by Israeli forces in Gaza during the war.

Under the ceasefire deal, Hamas agreed to release 33 captives in exchange for nearly 2,000 Palestinian prisoners and detainees in the first phase of an agreement intended to pave the way towards ending the war.

So far, 19 Israeli captives have been released, as well as five Thais who were returned in an unscheduled handover.

Negotiations for a second phase, expected to cover the return of about 60 remaining captives, less than half of whom are believed to be alive, and a full withdrawal of Israeli troops from the Gaza Strip to allow an end to the war, are expected to begin in the coming days.

Israel’s genocide in Gaza has killed more than 48,000 Palestinians, with thousands more remaining under the rubble of the bombed-out, besieged enclave.

Iranian president wishes Pope Francis speedy recovery

Pope

On Thursday, Pezeshkian took to his personal account on X to convey his sentiments, writing, “I wish Pope Francis, who is being treated in hospital for a respiratory infection, well and pray to the Almighty for his health and speedy recovery,”

The 88-year-old Pope was hospitalized last week at Rome’s Agostino Gemelli Polyclinic for treatment of bronchitis and diagnostic tests, as reported by the Vatican’s official website.

Recent updates indicate that the Pope remains under medical care, though Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, who visited him on Wednesday evening, stated that his condition has improved and he is now alert.

Pope Francis, a globally respected spiritual leader, has been a prominent advocate for peace, interfaith dialogue, and social justice.

Police reconstruct crime scene in murder case of Tehran University student

The reconstruction was conducted in the presence of the head of Tehran’s Criminal Court, law enforcement officials, forensic experts, photographers, journalists, and the suspects involved in the case.

The reconstruction aims to provide a clearer understanding of the events and assist in completing the investigation.

Khaleghi was fatally stabbed last Wednesday near the university dormitory area by two robbers identified as “Ahmad” and “Amir.”

The assailants, who took advantage of the darkness to carry out the robbery, fled the scene after inflicting fatal knife wounds on the student. Khaleghi succumbed to his injuries, prompting an intensive investigation by the police.

In an intelligence-driven operation, the police apprehended the suspects within less than a week.

The case has drawn significant public attention, highlighting concerns over safety in university areas and the need for enhanced security measures to prevent such crimes in the future.

Israeli military Jenin raid enters 2nd month; mass displacement in West Bank

Palestine Israel

Wednesday marks 30 days since Israeli forces began their assault on Jenin which then spread to other parts of the northern West Bank, including Tulkarem and its Nur Shams refugee camp. At least 26 Palestinians have been killed in Jenin since January 21.

The army has also deployed hundreds of soldiers and bulldozers that demolished houses and tore up vital infrastructure in the overcrowded camp, forcing almost all of its residents out.

“We don’t know what’s going on in the camp but there is continuous demolition and roads being dug up,” said Mohammed al-Sabbagh, head of the Jenin camp services committee.

Speaking to reporters on Tuesday, Jenin Mayor Mohammed Jarrar said the Israeli army “adopted a pattern of random destruction” in the camp and its surroundings in order to make the camp “uninhabitable”.

The mass displacement of Palestinians from various parts of the West Bank in recent weeks marks the largest displacement operation in decades.

The camps, built for descendants of Palestinian refugees who fled or were driven from their homes in the 1948 Nakba around the creation of Israel, have long been major centres for resistance groups fighting Israeli occupation.

They have been raided repeatedly by the Israeli military but the current operation, which began as the ceasefire was agreed in the besieged and bombarded Gaza Strip, has been on an unusually large scale.

According to figures from the Palestinian Authority, about 17,000 people have now been forced out of Jenin refugee camp, leaving it almost deserted. In Nur Shams, 6,000 people, or about two-thirds of its population, have been forced out, with another 10,000 leaving from Tulkarem camp.

“The ones who are left are trapped,” said Nihad al-Shawish, head of the Nur Shams camp services committee.

“The Civil Defence, the Red Crescent and the Palestinian security forces brought them some food yesterday but the army is still bulldozing and destroying the camp.”

Israeli raids have demolished dozens of houses and torn up large stretches of roadway as well as cutting off water and power.

Humanitarian officials say they have not seen such displacement in the West Bank since the 1967 Middle East war, when Israel captured the territory west of the Jordan River, along with East Jerusalem and the Gaza Strip.

“This is unprecedented. When you add to this the destruction of infrastructure, we’re reaching a point where the camps are becoming uninhabitable,” said Roland Friedrich, director of West Bank affairs for UNRWA, the UN agency for Palestinian refugees.

Trump brands Zelensky ‘dictator’ for refusing to hold elections

Trump

“A dictator without elections, Zelensky better move fast or he is not going to have a country left,” Trump wrote on his Truth Social network page.

He also added that the US was “successfully negotiating” with Russia, unlike Europe, which “has failed to bring peace.”

Trump and Vladimir Putin had a telephone conversation on February 12. The two leaders discussed the issue of the cessation of hostilities in Ukraine, bilateral relations, and a number of other issues. They also agreed to continue contacts and organize a face-to-face meeting.

Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov emphasized that the conversation between the two leaders was “constructive, working, friendly.”

On February 18, the Russian and US delegations held talks in Riyadh that lasted about 4.5 hours. According to Kremlin aide Yury Ushakov, the delegations had a serious conversation on all the issues they wanted to address, including discussion of the rapprochement of the positions of Russia and the United States and contacts on Ukraine.
