Commander: Any aggression to receive a crippling response

Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Brigadier General Hossein Salami made the remarks in a TV program.

Elaborating on the issue of the American sailors that entered Iran’s territorial waters recently and were arrested by the IRGC forces, the commander said the issue showed Iran’s power worldwide.

‘They did not enter the Iranian waters on purpose, but such an event happened at a proper time when it was needed the big idol to be broken,’ said the commander.

The arrest of the US sailors happened just a few days before lifting of anti-Iran sanctions and announcement of the ‘Implementation Day’ on January 16.

‘While being stopped, the American crew did not resist very much, but after that a US aircraft started showing provocative behavior for 40 minutes, said he, adding the behavior was to create psychological tension.’

About two weeks ago, when the American sailors were arrested in the Iranian waters in Farsi Island in the middle of the Persian Gulf, they were treated gently, said the commander.

About the impact of the arrest of the US sailors by the IRGC naval forces, the commander said none of the world powers are able to scare Iran in the sea.

About the recent prisoner swap between Iran and US, Salami said there was no relation between the sailors’ arrest and that swap.

About removal of anti-Iran sanctions that happened after the IAEA report on nuclear verification in Iran, Salami said the US was defeated when dealing with the Iranian nation’s resistance.

In the era of sanctions, Iran could grow and achieve the greatest successes, said he.

Country’s armed forces played a leading role in making progress in the nuclear diplomacy, said the commander.

The Iranian armed forces have been making all-out efforts to support the country’s nuclear diplomats, Salami added.

During the past four decades, he said, the US and its partners including the Zionist regime have concentrated on the World of Islam, attacked on 14 Islamic countries and waged four big wars against the Islamic nations.

On the issue of the Saudi behavior in the region and execution of the prominent Shia cleric Sheikh Nimr by the Saudi government on January 2, the commander said the Saudi regime has unfortunately had devastating impact on the security in the Muslim nations in recent years.

Abdullah Thanks Iran for Letting Afghan Children Get Schooling

In an interview with the Tasnim News Agency in Tehran, Abdullah hailed the decision to give the Afghan children the opportunity to go to school in Iran as a “historic measure.”

“We are grateful”, he noted, adding that Ayatollah Khamenei’s order has let around 50,000 Afghan students have the opportunity to educate in Iran.

Abdullah, who was in an official visit to Tehran in January, noted that he has held talks with the Iranian officials on the issues pertaining to the Afghan migrants, including the extension of their residence permits in Iran.

Ayatollah Khamenei had already issued an order stressing that all Afghan children, even children of the undocumented migrants living in the country illegally, have the right to register and study in Iran’s schools.

As regards the process of Afghanistan’s peace talks with the Taliban, Abdullah said the government is determined to protect the Afghan people.

“We will take steps decisively and sincerely in order to fulfill the wishes of (Afghan) people, which is establishment of sustainable peace,” he said of the peace talks.

Earlier this month, senior diplomats from Afghanistan, Pakistan, China and the US met in Islamabad to try to lay the groundwork for a new round of peace talks with the Taliban.

The push for new talks has taken on urgency in recent months, as aggressive Taliban offensives have been seizing large sections of Afghan territory.

Japan to extend oil deals with Iran

Shana news agency – affiliated to Iran’s Ministry of Petroleum – has reported that Japan’s contract will be extended until April 2017. It added that the volume of oil that the country will purchase from Iran will also increase from the current level of 110,000 barrels per day. No figure was nevertheless provided on how much this will increase.

Japan was one of the key clients of Iran’s oil before the US-led sanctions were imposed on the Islamic Republic in 2012.  Iran also hosted several leading Japanese companies in its oil and gas projects before the sanctions were put into place to encourage purchases of oil from Iran not only by Japan but also by many other international clients.

The prospects for the removal of the sanctions against Iran encouraged the Japanese officials to look for the avenues to return to the previous status of oil relations with Iran.

Accordingly, Shana says Tehran hosted several major oil delegations from Japan over the past months during which the Japanese officials emphasized that the country is ready to return to pre-sanctions status of oil imports from Iran as soon as the bans against sales of Iranian oil are lifted.

This past Friday, Japan announced that it had lifted sanctions on Iran following the implementation of a historic nuclear deal – the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) – with Iran last week.

The implementation of the JCPOA – which Iran sealed with the P5+1 last year – officially annulled sanctions on sales of Iranian oil beyond a ceiling of about 1 million barrels per day.

However, reports say the US is still maintaining certain economic sanctions against Iran.

That has left some companies cautious, with Japanese oil refiners saying they will keep using special government insurance to ship Iranian oil because of uncertainty over whether US insurers can provide coverage, Reuters reported.

Supreme Leader: Iran gov’t, nation keen on enhanced ties with China

The Supreme Leader made the remarks in a meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping.

The Supreme Leader acknowledged the 25-year strategic agreement drawn up by Iranian and Chinese presidents.

Ayatollah Khamenei welcomed the proposal made by Chinese president about revival of the Silk Road and expansion of cooperation among the Silk Road states is a fully logical and acceptable idea.

‘The Islamic Republic of Iran will never forget China’s cooperation during sanctions.’

The Supreme Leader said that energy is one of the key issues worldwide.

‘Iran is the only independent state in the region that can be trusted as energy partner because contrary to certain regional countries, Iran’s energy policy is not influenced by foreign factor.’

The Supreme Leader criticized Washington for its hegemonic policies and the US insincerity with other governments, saying that independent states want cooperation with each other and Iran-China agreement for 25-year strategic cooperation falls in the same context.

‘The two sides should be serious to bring agreements to the implementation stage.’

The Supreme Leader referred to Iranian culture’s orientation towards the east and said, ‘Westerners have never been able to win Iranian nation’s trust.’

Calling the US policy on Iran ‘worse and more hostile’ than that of western states, Ayatollah Khamenei said the hostile policies have made Iranian nation and officials to seek expansion of relations with independent states.

Emphasizing that ‘united China’ is among principled and absolute policies of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Ayatollah Khamenei welcomed proposal of the Chinese President to develop Iran-China security cooperation.

‘Unfortunately, our region is now insecure due to wrong policies of westerners and the diversionary and wrong attitude towards Islam; it is feared that its scope will be widened; so it should be checked through wise cooperation.’

The Supreme Leader said that certain regional countries are main source of such a diversionary attitude and that instead of confronting the main source of such an ideology and terrorist groups, westerners are invading and piling up pressure on Muslim communities in Europe and the US, while terrorist wings are completely different from the true Islamic ideology.

The Supreme Leader derided the US and the western governments for insistence on the terminology of ‘Islamic State’ to introduce certain terrorist groups.

Ayatollah Khamenei said such an approach is an insult to Muslims and instead of solving the problem, they indirectly promote terrorist groups.

The Supreme Leader termed US claim of forming anti-terrorism coalition as a deception.

Ayatollah Khamenei hoped that the outcome of talks and agreements in Tehran will be helpful for both sides in true sense.

The Chinese president for his part expressed pleasure with visiting Iran and thanked Iranian nation and government for their sincere feelings. He said such a sincerity is result of cooperation and cordial and long-term exchanges between Iran and China.

Xi pointed to the chronology of Iran-China connection through the ancient Silk Road and said the road is the symbol of peace, progress and friendly exchanges. The countries lying on the road can through expansion of cooperation defend their interests against Americans’ model of stirring regional economic balance, thus attaining their goal, said Xi.

He noted that certain superpowers want to dominate monopoly and policy of jungle ‘either with us or with enemy’, but, the progress of the newly emerging economies will bring the monopoly of power out of their control and provide a suitable atmosphere for ideas and policies of the independent states.

He said his country appreciates Iran’s support for integrated and united China as a model of mutual confidence and independent policies of both countries. We follow the path of independent development and are ready to continue our cooperation in all fields after lifting of sanctions as we stood by Iran during sanctions.’

He also referred to Iran’s abundant geographical, human and energy advantages and said economy of China and Iran are complementary to each other and during the visit, Iran and China reached agreement on planning for 25-year strategic cooperation, being ready to expand and widen cooperation in the cultural, educational, technological, military and security domains as strategic partners.

The Chinese president underlined the need for taking up mechanism for growing mutual security cooperation to confront terrorism and solve complicated regional issues.

He hailed the Supreme Leader’s ‘wise and farsighted’ remarks and said Chinese government and nation have a friendly and sincere approach towards Iranian leadership.

Swiss Ambassador to Tehran during the opening ceremony of Stefan Bondy exhibition in Tehran said as I had promised in Iranian Artists’ House, I brought Bondy to Tehran so that I can introduce one of best Swiss designers to Iranians.

According to ISNA, the Exhibition showcasing Stefan Bondy’s design works was opened in ceremony attend by Swiss Ambassador and a group of Iranian art enthusiasts on Jan, 22 in Imam Ali (AS) Art Museum.

Swiss Ambassador in his opening speech said work of this artist has been on display in New York, France and other prestigious galleries across the world.

He said Bondy have won many awards and it is just possible that he designs the next poster of Fajr festival. I hope he does so and you enjoy his works showcased here.

Afghan man cuts off his wife’s nose

An Afghan man fled his home in Faryab Province to join Taliban after cutting off his wife’s nose during a family quarrel.

The young woman has lost almost completely her nose in the violent attack by the psychic man, as Afghan News reported. Seyed Agha Andraby, a local police officer said the attack took place on Sunday January 17 and the woman’s relatives have told the authorities the man has fled to a region controlled by Taliban after committing the crime.

The officials at the Ministry of Health say the young woman needs nose surgery but such medical treatment is not available in Faryab.

In recently years, violence against women has increased in the countries like Afghanistan, Pakistan and India.

Saudis and Zionists try to Undermine Nuclear Agreement

Mr. Larijani’s advisor for international affairs, speaking to IRNA on Saturday Jan. 23 said the most important clause in the JCPOA is removal of unjust sanctions imposed on Iran which should be removed altogether.

Mr. Sheikholeslam said so many people are against nuclear agreement signed between Iran and the west and said in the west the main opponent of the agreement is Zionist Regime and in the Middle East, the Saudi Arabia.

According to Mr. Sheikholeslam, Israeli regime is fully aware of US domestic policies and now it has joined hands with Saudis and their money to block implementation of nuclear agreement.

He said opponents of the talks tried to prevent conclusion of agreement in the first place but when the events went against their wishes started their machinations to prevents its implementation and but they again failed to reach their objective.

According to advisor to Parliament Speaker, now, the Saudis and their Zionist partner are trying to prevent proper implementation of the agreement.

Mr. Sheikholeslam who is in Baghdad attending inter-parliamentary meeting of Islamic countries said countries like Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Turkey in order to weaken and destroy the political systems in Iraq and Syria in the past, had been the main providers of financial and military assistance and recruiting centers for terrorist groups in the region but now they themselves have been targeted by such groups.

He said countries supporting terrorism have realized their mistakes adding that Daesh is now claiming to sat up a government in Mecca and Medina and has taken the responsibility for bombings in Saudi Arabia and Turkey.

Airbus Officials to Discuss Plane Sale to Iran Sunday

Ahmad-Reza Bayati, secretary of an upcoming aviation summit due to begin tomorrow in Tehran, told the Tasnim News Agency that Airbus authorities will come to Tehran on Sunday in order to sell airplanes to the country.

In response to a question on Boeing’s attendance in the Sunday summit, Bayati announced that the American company will not take part due to visa problems.

The visit will come after Iranian Minister of Road and Urban Development Abbas Akhoundi announced that the country plans to purchase 114 civil aircraft from Airbus Group SE, as sanctions against Iran’s aviation industry were removed last week.

Iran has reached an agreement with Airbus Group SE to purchase 114 planes from the French-based company, Akhoundi told the Tasnim News Agency last Saturday.

The Iranian minister further said the aircraft are scheduled to be added to the country’s air fleet.

In recent months, there have been numerous negotiations with major world companies producing aircraft, he noted.

The country plans to renovate air fleet, and the first step has been taken on this path with the agreement to purchase the 114 planes, Akhoundi said.

The European Union and the United States declared last week that they have removed all sanctions they had imposed on Iran due to its nuclear energy program.

The declaration came after Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and European Union’s Foreign Policy Chief Federica Mogherini announced in a joint statement on late January 16 that the implementation of the nuclear deal has officially been started.

Axis of Resistance Dealt Fatal Blows to Takfiris, Hezbollah Official Says

Speaking to the Tasnim News Agency, Sheikh Qassem warned against the spread of extremist groups in the region, saying, “At the current juncture, the Takfiri ideology is a real crisis in our region because Takfiri currents act by killing, refusing to put up with others, ignoring political situations and not presenting solutions to problems.”

He emphasized that major advances have been made against the groups, adding, “With the grace of God, we can say that the (Axis of) Resistance has managed to deal very fatal blows to Takfiri currents.”

The prominent cleric further stressed that the existence of Takfiri groups hinges on the supports provided to them by arrogant powers and some Persian Gulf littoral states, including Saudi Arabia.

Sheikh Qassem went on to say that the countries that support Takfiri terrorist groups will definitely pay a heavy price for it.

Takfiri groups such as ISIL, which has been committing heinous crimes in countries like Syria and Iraq, are believed to be supported by the West and some regional Arab countries.

In the past months, Hezbollah fighters along with units of the Syrian army have made considerable victories over the Takfiri militants, driving them out of major towns and inflicting heavy losses on them.

President Xi’s visit to Iran historic event: Rouhani

“The important visit by … President Xi Jinping…marks an important historic event and I am sure that a new chapter has started in relations between Iran and China,” Rouhani said alongside Xi in Tehran on Saturday.

Rouhani said that the Islamic Republic welcomes stronger ties with China particularly after the recent lifting of international sanctions on Iran.

He also said Iran and China have agreed on more cooperation to “combat regional terrorism.”

He said he and his Chinese counterpart discussed cooperation for “creating stability and security in the Middle East and helping countries plagued by terrorism, including Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria and Yemen, and providing intellectual and intelligence assistance in the fight on terrorism.”

For his part, Xi said he has traveled to Iran to prepare the ground for a new “prospect in relations between the two countries.”

He noted that Iran-China strong cooperation will not only benefit the governments and nations of the two countries, but also would serve “regional and global peace.”

Xi said he seeks “strategic ties with Iran”, particularly in energy market.

China, a top oil consumer, has been a top buyer of Iran’s crude. Even after international sanctions targeted Tehran’s energy sector, China continued its cooperation with Iran by purchasing oil and developing energy projects.

Iran and China signed 17 documents for cooperation in economic, industrial, cultural and judicial fields in the presence of the two countries’ presidents.

The documents included one signed between Iranian and Chinese nuclear chiefs for peaceful energy cooperation.

Others involved documents for environmental cooperation, financing of a bullet train railway and banking cooperation.

The Chinese president’s trip to Tehran is the last leg of his three-nation tour which has also taken him to Saudi Arabia and Egypt.

The value of trade transactions between Tehran and Beijing stood at some $52 billion in 2014. However, the figure dropped in 2015 due to decreasing oil prices.

China remains Iran’s top trade partner. According to China’s Commerce Department, during the first 11 months of 2015, China imported 24.36 million tons of crude oil from Iran, or 8 percent of its total imports.

China’s oil companies have also been increasing investment in oil projects overseas.

Following the recent removal of sanctions, Iran is once again open to global business, which makes the market more competitive as many global companies are already moving to resume trade with Iran.
