He went on to call Muhammad Ali one of the pioneers in the field of racial equality, and a voice of human conscience against various discriminations due to the colour of skin, ethnicity and race, adding that “the name Muhammad Ali will forever remind us of the rejection of imperialism, hegemony and warmongering.”

The event, known as 15 Khordad Uprising in the Iranian calendar, marks the 1963 demonstrations in Iran against the arrest of the later founder of the Islamic Republic Imam Khomeini after a speech in which he attacked the country’s Western-backed Shah and Israel.
On June 5 and 6 of 1963, angry protesters were confronted by tanks and paratroopers in the Iranian cities of Qom, Tehran, Shiraz, Mashhad and Varamin in a crackdown in which about 15,000 people were killed.
The uprising opened a new chapter in a grassroots resistance against the regime of of the former Shah, Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, who faced a legitimacy crisis after a CIA-engineered coup in 1953.
After 15 Khordad Uprising, however, the regime stepped up its heavy-handed crackdown, going on a spree of arrest, jailing and execution of the clergy and dissidents, which fueled further unrest.
Throughout those years, Imam Khomeini was sent to exile in Iraq, Turkey and France for 14 years, before returning to Iran which culminated in the victory of the Islamic Revolution in February 1979.
Ayatollah Khamenei addressed more than one million mourners in southern Tehran on Friday to mark the 27th anniversary of the passing away of Imam Khomeini who ended a pro-Western monarchy in Iran in 1979.
“We have still many small and big enemies, but foremost among them are America and this very evil Britain,” Ayatollah Khamenei said.
Ayatollah Khamenei said the enemies have never given up their hostility toward the Iranian nation.
The Leader criticized the global economic system, saying it is controlled mostly by Zionist elements.
Sanctions imposed on the Islamic Republic under the pretext of its nuclear program were actually aimed at crippling the Iranian nation and its economy, he said.
The “economy of resistance” is the only way for the Iranian nation to achieve economic independence, said Ayatollah Khamenei, calling on state officials to take domestic capabilities into account.
Millions of Iranians are taking part in ceremonies across the nation to mark the anniversary.
Travelling from across the country, huge numbers of mourners have converged on the mausoleum of Imam Khomeini in southern Tehran to pay their tributes.
Ali Ansari, an official in charge of organizing the ceremony at Imam Khomeini’s mausoleum, estimated that some 1.3 million people have gathered at the complex.
The Islamic Revolution of 1979, led by Imam Khomeini, forced out the enemies and became a source of inspiration for other nations, the Leader said.
Ayatollah Khamenei added that Imam Khomeini believed in God and the people, and considered himself a servant of Allah.
The Islamic Revolution took the Iranian nation out of the quagmire of dependence on foreigners, corruption and international humiliation, Ayatollah Khamenei added.
The Leader called on state officials, activists and the entire nation to preserve the revolutionary spirit.
“All Iranians must remain revolutionary because the revolution belongs to the entire nation. It should not be confined to certain groups,” the Leader said.
Ayatollah Khamenei called for commitment to the basic principles and ideals of the Islamic Revolution, saying the nation must adhere to its independence from foreigners in all areas and stay vigilant in the face of the enemy’s schemes.
Special events are underway at the mausoleum of Imam Khomeini (RA) in southern Tehran to pay tribute to “the architect of the Islamic Revolution.”
Visitors from across the country, as well as high-ranking Iranian officials along with groups of foreign guests and ambassadors are taking part in the commemoration ceremony.
Every year, large crowds of Iranians travel to Tehran from different parts of the country to pay tribute to Imam Khomeini at his shrine.
Ayatollah Ruhollah Moussavi Khomeini, better known as Imam Khomeini, engineered Iran’s 1979 Islamic Revolution, which led to the overthrow of the US-backed Shah of Iran.
Imam Khomeini passed away on June 3, 1989, at the age of 87.

According to a report by Tasnim, as translated by IFP, photos published in the social media show that Yemeni schoolboys have taken their final examinations without wearing clothes because of the extremely high temperature.
For over a year, Saudi Arabia has been launching airstrikes against the people of Yemen, but the resistance shown by Yemenis, particularly the Houthi Ansarullah movement, has made the coalition forces to mass-punish the poor Arab country’s people by attacking the infrastructures, including the power plants.

The Imam’s grandson finally appeared on state TV and voiced his views in a Q&A program, something similar to a hard talk show.
A couple of days before the 27th anniversary of Imam Khomeini’s death, and a few days after Hassan Khomeini’s controversial absence from the opening session of the 5th Assembly of Experts, IRIB’s moveto invite him for a live interview seems to indicate that changes have already begun since the appointment of a new chief of the huge broadcasting organization.
Below is IFP’s translation of some of his most important comments, as reported by Entekhab.
“The magnanimous Imam rose and braved all the world’s arrogant powers at a time of darkness and historical suppression in Iran,” the Iranian chief executive said on Thursday, addressing thousands of people at Imam Khomeini’s mausoleum in the Iranian capital Tehran.
Imam Khomeini rose up against the country’s rulers who, “neither respected Qur’anic verses and Islamic principles and culture nor lent an ear to the people’s demands and will,” Rouhani added.
Grand Ayatollah Rouhollah Mousavi Khomeini was born in the central Iranian city of Khomein on September 24, 1902 to a family of scholars.
He led Iran’s 1979 Islamic Revolution, which culminated in the overthrow of the US-backed Mohammad Reza Pahlavi’s monarchy. He spent more than 14 years in exile, mostly in the Iraqi holy city of Najaf and also in Turkey and France, during the Pahlavi regime before returning to Iran in the lead-up to the victory of the Islamic Revolution.
Imam Khomeini passed away on June 3, 1989 at the age of 87.
Imam dispelled the false beliefs that the monarchical rule was eternal and that the world was dominated by either the Western or the Eastern bloc, Rouhani added.
“Now, we have to prevent the Zionists and the arrogant powers from falsely presenting a marred image of the Iranian nation, the Islamic Revolution, and the Islamic Republic to others.”
The president also hailed the Iranian nation’s achievements over the past years under the guidance of Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, Imam Khomeini’s successor.
“We managed to cement the nation’s rights across international institutions and smite oppressive sanctions,” Rouhani stated.
He was referring to the nuclear agreement, signed in Vienna on July 14, 2015 between Iran and the five permanent members of the UN Security Council – the United States, France, Britain, China and Russia – plus Germany, following two and a half years of intensive talks.
After the two sides started implementing the agreement on January 16, all nuclear-related sanctions imposed on Iran by the European Union, the UN Security Council and the US were lifted. Iran, in return, has put some limitations on its nuclear activities.
On the 27th demise anniversary of the late founder of the Islamic Republic Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, almost all Iranian newspapers on Thursday extended condolences over the occasion, and published reports about Imam Khomeini’s life and struggles.
On the same occasion last night, the state TV, IRIB, invited Imam Khomeini’s grandson Hassan Khomeini to a live TV program. Many Iranian media covered his remarks, including his criticism of those who were dogmatic in the past and are now considered as criteria for knowing good and bad.
He also slammed the ban on certain figures [presumably ex-President Mohammad Khatami] and said such moves are ridiculous. However, probably because of the same ban [!], no Iranian newspaper covered the remarks.
The consequences of the Iranian Parliament’s governing board elections and the shares of each faction in the new Parliament also remained as top stories on Thursday.
