Iran Exports More Than 25% of Its Cement

According to the official IRNA news agency, citing export figures, the country sold more than 25% of some 60m tons of locally produced cement last year on the international market.

The figure, however, reveals a drop from 2014, when Iran ranked fourth on the global list of cement and clinker producers with an output of 70m tons.

Iran’s cement production seen fluctuations has over the past decade or so, soaring at times and spiralling downwards at others.

The country seeks to increase its cement production from the current nominal capacity to 120m tons within the next 10 years.

China leads global producers with roughly a 55% share of the world’s cement output – around 4bn tons.

Iran exports cement to some two dozen countries including Iraq, Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan, Afghanistan, Russia, Kazakhstan, Kuwait, Pakistan, Qatar, Turkey, the UAE, Georgia, Oman, India, and China.

Newspapers on Wednesday covered the response by the office of Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif to a number of US congressmen who had asked for visas to visit Iran, reminding them that members of Congress do not get to dictate the policies of other sovereign countries.

An address by Trade Minister Mohammad Reza Nematzadeh to the Parliament was also a top story. During his speech, he criticized the country’s bureaucracy and economic regulations, which discourage foreign investors.

A fresh wave of dust pollution all over the country was also focused on by many sources.

Female MPs to Focus on Empowering Women Breadwinners

2099991

The number of women heads of families should be recorded in a data bank, the female MP said, adding, if breadwinner women are recognized and supported, they will be able to pursue a normal life.

Currently, around 2.5m female heads of families are living in the country, IRNA quoted Jelodarzadeh as saying. These women need to be supported to keep them from becoming socially vulnerable.

Although women are generally more vulnerable compared to men, breadwinner women are more subject to social difficulties, since they should provide their families with the means of livelihood, she noted.

Female MPs will make all possible efforts to support this sector of society in helping them solve their problems, she concluded.

Senior General: Iran in Top 5 in Terms of Precision Missiles

General Ahmad Vahidi

It is Iran’s technological capabilities and quality in the precision missile industry that frighten enemies, Head of the Strategic Centre of the General Staff of Iran’s Armed Forces Brigadier General Ahmad Vahidi said in an interview with Tasnim.

Vahidi said that Iran’s missile capabilities have also provided a model of deterrent power that proved to be effectual in several Israeli wars against Gaza and Lebanon.

He also explained that Iran’s missile power has paved the way for the country’s progress in space projects. “Without missile power, we could never have put a satellite into orbit.”

Iranian officials have repeatedly underscored that the country will not hesitate to strengthen its military capabilities, which are entirely meant for defence, and that Iran’s defence capabilities will be never subject to negotiations.

Dignity, Power, and Excellence Achievable via Quran

Leader100

During the ceremony, which lasted for more than three hours, eight Quran memorizers, reciters and masters from across the country recited verses from the Quran and nashids, religious poems and songs praising God.

The Leader of the Islamic Revolution addressed the gathering at the end of the meeting, where he commemorated Quran reciters who were martyred in the Mina tragedy during Hajj season last year: “This year, we are sorrowful of loss of the reciters martyred in the Mina incident. May God exalt their position and accept their unfinished Hajj pilgrimage in the best possible way.”

Ayatollah Khamenei further highlighted the miracle of the beauty of the Quran’s words, which he deemed as a window to its excellent meanings; “The beauty of the Quran wins the hearts of mankind. While the wording of Quran is beautiful, its teachings are thousands of times more beautiful.”

“Today, the world needs the Quran; today world suffers from spiritual and intellectual emptiness. You can see that murder and crime rates in the western world are rising for this reason. If only a small part of the shining light of the Quran is sent to them with proper expression for today’s understanding, hearts will be absorbed and it will lay the groundwork for the true progress of mankind with dignity, power, wealth, spiritual excellence, intellect and belief, as well as happiness and peace of mind – these all rely upon implementing the teachings of the Holy Quran.”

Ayatollah Khamenei emphasized that belief structures needed to be reinforced and proper language must be applied in order to convey the message and teachings of the Quran to people all around the world. “If these concepts are transferred to the world, the Quran will be a mighty power, towards which superpowers and the Zionist [Israeli] regime can do nothing.”

He also stressed the expansion of ceremonies for reciting, memorizing or contemplating upon the Quran to increase the public’s closeness to the Holy Quran. “Just like mourning processions commemorating the martyrdom of Infallible Imams or the demise of the Prophet and his household, Quran recitation and listening events must be spread around the country, so that Quranic concepts can be spread as quickly as possible,” he said, continuing, “A blessing of more acquaintance with the Quran is spiritual peace of mind which paves the ground for the improvement of a human being’s faith in God Almighty and Divine Power.”

President Hassan Rouhani

He made the remarks in a fast-breaking (Iftar) ceremony with orphans on the occasion of the first day of Ramadan.

Islam believes that all the mankind and particularly the Islamic countries constitute a big family and it urges them to help the needy in the family, Rouhani said.

He praised the falling number of the underprivileged and the enhancement of support for orphans in Iran, saying that the figures showed that “We are moving forward in the right path.”

He called for emotional, financial and scientific support to be extended to all the orphans across Iran.

“US Congress Is Not A Global Authority”

Zarif12

Back in April, three US congressmen – Mike Pompeo, Lee Zeldin and Frank LoBiondo – went to Iran’s Interests Section in the embassy of Pakistan in Washington to call for visas to visit Iran, saying they wanted to investigate what has been happening now that the US and Iran have entered into a nuclear deal.

In reply, Foreign Minister Zarif released a letter on Tuesday June 7, which is reprinted in its entirety below:

Congressmen,

The Foreign Minister has been informed of your letter of April 12, 2016, concerning your purported visa request. In this regard, we draw your attention to the following:

Despite what you seem to presume, members of the US Congress do not get to dictate the policies of other countries.  This clearly applies to Iranian visa policies. Bear in mind that as members of the US Congress you are not a global authority.

The nuclear agreement known as JCPOA has clearly specified that the sole body competent for monitoring the implementation of its nuclear provisions is the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). No JCPOA participant, including the United States, and certainly no citizen or official of these countries, can arrogate any such right to monitor the implementation of JCPOA to itself, nor are they authorized by the JCPOA or other provisions of international law to encroach upon Iranian sovereignty by claiming such monitoring authority.

In the modern era, visits to sites or parliamentary or other delegations to monitor elections are made upon invitation and through bilateral agreements between sovereign states or based on reciprocal arrangements, and not upon unilateral demands by self-arrogating individuals or parliamentarians. It bears reminding that Iran and the United States do not have diplomatic relations, and as such, there are no reciprocal monitoring arrangements between the two countries.

The US Congress has recently enacted legislation that bars people – ordinarily subject to visa waiver rules – who travel to Iran from entering the United States without obtaining a visa. And, when Secretary Kerry, in fulfilling US obligations emanating from the JCPOA, promised to waive restrictions on the visa waiver program for individuals who have travelled to Iran, some of you are on record as saying that “waiving restrictions for persons who have travelled to Iran or who hold Iranian citizenship would put US citizens at risk”.  Surely it is ironic that you believe that going to Iran would “radicalize” and turn citizens of all other countries into “potential security risks” for the United States; but you still seek to visit Iran and believe that such a visit will have no such radicalizing effect on you.

In spite of your claim, since 1980 – when the US broke off diplomatic relations with Iran – Iranian government officials are generally barred from entering the US. We are only permitted – on a case-by-case basis and after a very lengthy and unusually difficult and highly selective process – to enter the US to attend meetings of international organizations located on US soil; this while the US is legally required to grant free and unrestricted access as per its international obligations under relevant multilateral agreements. This obligation has never been consistently and faithfully observed. And despite what you seem to believe, Iranian diplomats and nationals who work at the United Nations or come to New York to attend UN meetings, are all restricted to a 25-mile radius of Columbus Circle in Manhattan. That is the extent of the hospitality that you boast about in your letter.

From the time when the manufactured “nuclear crisis” has been settled through the JCPOA, tens of thousands of tourists, academics, investors, students and businesspeople from around the world – including many Americans – have obtained visas and travelled to Iran without any delay or complication.  But they have been able to do so by making requests consistent with the relevant regulations of the host country and in the appropriate respectful manner and not in the completely inappropriate way you have demanded to visit Iran and interfere in what is of no relevance to your official functions. We doubt that any self-respecting country would grant a visa under such circumstances.

In sum, we consider your visa request to have been a publicity stunt and not an appropriate request to visit a sovereign country; and it has, and will continue to be, treated in that spirit.

Iran Condemns Terrorist Attack in Iraq’s Karbala

f593d769-8ad3-47ef-ad0f-2b33eb49d734

Hossein Jaberi Ansari said that countering the threat posed by terrorism and extremism requires the national solidarity of the Iraqi nation and firm support from the international community.

He extended his condolences to the Iraqi government, nation and the families of the victims of the attack.

At least five people lost their lives and 11 others were wounded after a car bomb exploded in central Karbala, 80km (50 miles) southwest of the capital Baghdad, near the house of Karbala Governor Aqil al-Turaihi.

Iraqi sources said the bombing occurred 5km away from the shrines of the third Shia Imam, Imam Hussein, and his brother Hazrat Abbas.

In a statement later in the day, ISIS (Daesh) claimed responsibility for the attack. The terrorist group has been wreaking havoc on Iraq’s northern and western parts since June 2014.
