Iranian Artwork on Display at French Institute of Muslim Civilisation

The artwork is a joint project by Kamran Afshar-Naderi and ceramist and calligrapher Leila Farzaneh.

The unveiling ceremony was attended by high-ranking French officials, including the interior minister, the mayor of Lyon, representatives of the embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran and the ambassadors of Islamic countries.

According to Honar Online, “Tree of Life” with its impressive dimensions attracted a lot of attention and praise at the opening of the exhibition, as French Interior Minister Christophe Castaner tweeted part of a film showing this work to announce the opening of the institute.

Iranian Artwork on Display at French Institute of Muslim Civilisation“To better understand Islamic cultures, everyone should be allowed to understand the diversity of viewpoints and have a chance for sharing their views: IFCM can be a bridge between civilisations and philosophies, and somehow it can be an opportunity and a success,” reads his tweet.

The “Tree of Life” is the only work of art currently installed at the French Institute of Muslim Civilisation and is used as the landmark of the institute.

It measures 9.5 x 3.5 metres and has been created with hand-painted ceramic flat tiles of different geometric shapes, stainless-steel mirrors and thousands of hand-painted ceramic pieces bearing Persian calligraphic motifs.

A team of Iranian artists, architects, craftsmen and engineers has been involved in the production of this masterpiece for a year and a half.

It consists of 3,500 pieces of handmade tile adorned with green and blue Iranian motifs based on Iranian geometry.

On the tiles, there are 360 irregular polyhedral pyramids made of stainless steel mirrors. The use of mirrors has made it possible to respond to changing conditions of natural light, indoor lighting, etc.

Iranian Artwork on Display at French Institute of Muslim CivilisationAs the visitors looking at the artwork move along, they think the leaves of the tree are moving, and therefore the tree of life always seems alive.

The artwork has been permanently installed at the main entrance of the institute.

“Tree of Life” is one of the ancient Iranian symbols related to the holly tree myth, which is also mentioned in the Qur’an and other ancient religions and civilisations.

Leila Farzaneh is a renowned ceramist, and Kamran Afshar-Naderi has a PhD in architecture from Italy and always pursued art from an architectural angle.

The French Institute of Muslim Civilisation has heavily invested in countries such as Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Qatar, etc., but thanks to the ingenuity and creativity of these two Iranian artists its entrance will bear the name of Iran forever.

Iranian Currency Regains 40% of Lost Value: Top Banker

In an Instagram post, Abdolnasser Hemmati noted that the inflation has been controlled and indications of economic growth are starting to show up despite the US sanctions.

“Last year, at this time the economy of our country was in a bad situation. The US government and its regional allies had started a full-fledged economic war by launching a psychological war and their propaganda machine to break up the country through the economy, with the means of collapsing national currency and eventually creating chaos throughout Iran,” read his post.

Hemmati further highlighted the important impact of the CBI’s new policies on the country’s currency market and economy.

“I thank God Almighty for the guidance and support of the Leader of Islamic Revolution, President Rouhani and most importantly, the admirable resistance and companionship of the people. [With their support] the measures and actions of the Central Bank brought stability and calm back to the currency market and other markets. In cooperation with other organisations and institutions we could deal with one of the most complex and unprecedented financial and monetary sanctions.”

Iran’s rial was traded at a historic low of 190,000 against the US dollar in September 2018.

Measures taken by the Iranian government helped control the prices in the market, allowing the national currency to be traded at a year-long high of 109,000 against the US dollar in July. The rate is currently around 114,000.

Earlier, Hemmati had said that the central bank is taking all necessary measures to control the foreign exchange market.

Iran Says to Keep Reducing Commitments under JCPOA

In a statement, the AEOI said the reduction of obligations is completely legal and in keeping with the provisions of the agreement.

It said the cutback aims to strike a balance between Iran’s commitments and those of other signatories under the agreement and to ensure that Tehran can reap the benefits of the deal.

“As it has been announced, time and again, by officials of the Islamic Establishment (Iran), if the other parties to the nuclear deal respect their obligations and implement them, the Islamic Republic of Iran, too, will return to the full implementation of the deal,” read part of the statement.

The AEOI further said Iran will forge ahead with its activities on the nuclear front to achieve more progress in that domain.

“By using all its scientific capacity as well as its facilities and equipment, and in full managerial coordination with the respected president and the head of the Supreme National Security Council, the AEOI will press ahead with its broad scientific and strategic activities in order to secure new potentialities in different hardware and software domains within the framework of national regulations and commitments under the Nuclear Safeguards Agreement until the desired objective is achieved,” read the statement.

The AEOI issued the statement after Leader of Iran’s Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khameni urged the organization to keep reducing the country’s commitments under the nuclear accord until “the desired objective is achieved.”

Iran Urges Germany to Stop Supporting Israel

“The Islamic Republic of Iran believes de-escalation of tension in the region is only possible through serious fight of all parties against the destructive, interventionist and inhumane acts of the Zionist regime,” Mousavi said on Wednesday.

He also called on Germany to take into account the realities of the region, and stop its support for the devastating crimes of the Zionist regime in Palestine, Lebanon and Syria.

This way, Berlin would be able to address the high expectations about its effective and constructive role in establishing lasting peace and stability in the region, he added.

Mousavi highlighted the Islamic Republic of Iran’s support for the oppressed nations of the region, including the Palestinian people, saying that it is the humanitarian and Islamic commitment of Iran that has to be continued.

Earlier, in a statement, the German Foreign Ministry spokesperson underscored Berlin’s support for the Israeli regime and in an interventionist statement called on Tehran to remain committed to maintaining peaceful relations with the countries of the region and taking practical steps to ease tensions.

The German Federal Foreign Office said the statement was a reaction to earlier comments by Commander-in-Chief of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Major General Hossein Salami.

Iran, Turkey Move to Boost Trade Ties

Turkey-Iran

In a Wednesday meeting with Turkish Deputy Minister of Customs and Trade Riza Tuna Turagay, Dejpasand highlighted the brilliant history of close ties and cooperation between the two countries and their officials’ great determination to expand bilateral relations, and called for the promotion of cooperation between the two neighbors.

Pointing to the target of $30 billion annual trade set by Iran and Turkey, the Iranian minister said the level of bilateral trade exchange is expected to rise in light of mutual efforts.

“The cooperation between the customs of Iran and Turkey must be much closer and stronger than the current situation,” Dejpasand added.

For his part, Tuna Turagay reaffirmed the Turkish government’s determination to continue trade cooperation with Iran, and called for the modernization of transportation routes between the two countries and for updating the customs equipment along the common border in order to accelerate the pace of mutual cooperation.

Iran Ratifies Law to Let Mothers Pass Nationality to Children

Iranian Mothers Can Now Pass Nationality to Children

The Guardian Council, which controls the contents of the bills passed by the Parliament in terms of compatibility with the country’s Constitution and the rules of Sharia, had earlier rejected the bill and sent it back to the Parliament.

However, it was finally endorsed after lawmakers agreed to include two conditions: the citizenship case must be approved by both the Intelligence Ministry and the Intelligence Organization of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC).

The original bill, presented to the Parliament by the government of Hassan Rouhani back in April, was approved by lawmakers on May 12, when 188 lawmakers voted in favour.

The bill, which will now be signed into law and implemented in the near future, is viewed as a breakthrough and the end of a long-time discrimination against women in Iran.

Currently, children in Iran acquire nationality of the country through their fathers, but not their mothers. The full nationality law is defined in Book 2 of the Civil Code of Iran, Articles 976 through 991.

Article 976 of the Civil Code of Iran defines who is an Iranian national:

All persons residing in Iran except those whose foreign nationality is established; the foreign nationality of such persons is considered to be established if their documents of nationality have not been objected to by the Iranian Government.

Those born in Iran or outside whose father is Iranian.

Those born in Iran of unknown parentage.

Persons born in Iran of foreign parents, one of whom was also born in Iran.

Persons born in Iran of a father of foreign nationality who have resided at least one more year in Iran immediately after reaching the full age of 18; in other cases, their naturalization as Iranian subjects will be subject to the stipulations for Iranian naturalization laid down by the law. New legislation passed by the Iranian Parliament in 2012 grants permanent residency to children born to Iranian mothers and foreign fathers.

Every woman of foreign nationality who marries an Iranian husband.

Every foreign national who has obtained Iranian nationality.

According to Article 979 of the Civil Code of Iran, people can obtain Iranian nationality under following conditions:

Have reached the full age of 18.
Have resided five years, whether continuously or intermittently, in Iran.

Are not deserters from military service.
Have not been convicted in any country of non – political major misdemeanours or felonies.

Iran Condemns NATO Chief’s ‘Meddlesome’ Comments

US Will Fail to Extend Iran’s Arms Embargo: Spokesman

In a statement on Wednesday, Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Seyyed Abbas Mousavi said “the Islamic Republic of Iran condemns these meddlesome remarks by foreign powers and security bodies about the internal affairs of other countries and the Persian Gulf region.”

“Iran is of the opinion that any interference in the region’s security arrangements by outsiders would in itself cause and exacerbate insecurity and tension in the region,” he added.

“Instead of meddling in the region’s affairs, the NATO Secretary General had better be accountable for the destructive impacts of the intervention of the military organization in the Middle East and West Asia, which has resulted in nothing but the killing of civilians, strengthening of terrorism, increased production of illicit drugs, as well as devastation and escalation of insecurity in the region,” the spokesman added.

Mousavi said the devastating impacts of such interventions can already be witnessed in the insecurity and instability of certain regional states.

“Iran believes that the security of the Middle East must be ensured by regional countries themselves without the presence of foreign troops,” he noted.

“The Islamic Republic of Iran, like any other independent country in the world, reserves the right to enjoy conventional defence programs,” Mousavi said.

“The missile program of the Islamic Republic of Iran has a defensive and deterrent nature, and expressions of unnecessary concerns will not affect our country’s policy in preserving and developing our missile defence program,” he added.

In an interview during the UN General Assembly in New York on September 24, Stoltenberg accused Iran of pursuing “destabilizing policies”, undermining regional stability, and supporting terrorist organizations, and called for action against Iran’s missile program.

Iran, Austria Clinch Tourism Cooperation Deal

The agreement covers a whole range of areas, including the exchange of modern regulations and documents in the field of mountain tourism and nature touring, drawing up statutes and regulations for national parks and nature touring, organizing tours to familiarize Austrian media and tourism authorities with Iran’s mountain and nature tourism potential, and exchanging experience on advertising and supervision in accordance with European standards.

Iran, Austria Clinch Tourism Cooperation Deal“Among the countries which have signed memoranda of understanding with Iran on tourism, Austria, compared to others, has more logical behaviour and has complied with the memorandum of understanding and road map it delineated with Iran,” said Mohammad-Ebrahim Larijani, a top Iranian tourism official.

The protocol was signed at the end of a three-day trip to Iran by an Austrian delegation after a joint Iran-Austria working group was organized on the sidelines of a specialized symposium called Sustainable Tourism Conference.

He said the protocol was in line with a memorandum of understanding signed by the two sides back in 2016.

“The agenda of all meetings of both countries have, so far, been in keeping with this road map,” he said.

According to the official, it was decided that the fourth working group hosted by Austria be formed in 2020 to discuss issues such as cultural heritage, tourism, standardization of accommodation and ways of supervising tourism facilities.
