US Policy of Maximum Pressure against Iran Failed: Leader

“They thought Iran would be forced to show flexibility if they concentrate their maximum pressure policy on Iran; however, they have so far realized that the policy has made troubles for themselves,” the Leader said on Wednesday in a meeting with top IRGC commanders.

“They even begged for a meeting with our president and sent their European friends as mediators, but they failed at last, and this policy will fail until the end,” he added.

Earlier in the day, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani told a cabinet session that he rejected the offer to meet US President Donald Trump in New York despite the Europeans’ mediation efforts because Trump said in private messages to Europeans he was ready, but he publicly vowed to increase sanctions against the Islamic Republic of Iran.

“During the 24-hour period, when the political developments and diplomatic negotiations had peaked, the US president explicitly announced in two occasions – once in his UN General Assembly address and at the global level, and once in another occasion – that he wanted to increase sanctions,” he said.

“I told European friends which part should we accept? Should we believe what you say – that the US is ready – or the US president’s words who has explicitly announced twice in 24 hours he is looking for more sanctions?”

Iran to Continue Reducing Nuclear Commitments

In his Wednesday remarks, the Leader also referred to the nuclear issue, and said Iran will seriously pursue reduction of its commitments.

“The Government should precisely, thoroughly pursue that until we reach the desired results—and we will certainly by the Grace of God achieve the desired outcomes,” the Leader said.

Elsewhere in his comments, the Leader said the US spent billions to arm ISIS. They continue to support them and when ISIS is surrounded, the US flies its helicopters to open ways for ISIS members to escape.

“The head of a country told me they could clearly observe through satellites that ISIS forces sold oil while backed by US,” he added.

“The US president said they spent $7 trillion in West Asia without achieving anything. Know that, the more our enemies spend, the more they face losses,” he noted.

“How much did YOU spend in Afghanistan and still face losses? How about Syria and Iraq? They say, ‘we destroyed ISIS.’ What on earth?! You didn’t destroy, you created it and Syrian, Iraqi, Lebanese, and Iranian youths destroyed it,” he added.

High Blood Pressure; A Dangerous Silent Killer

Blood pressure is the amount of pressure and force applied to the arterial wall that results from pumping of the heart. Long-term hypertension, if left untreated, can lead to a variety of dangerous diseases, including heart disease, stroke, kidney disorders, and so on.

According to the World Health Organisation, 1.3 billion people worldwide are suffering from hypertension.

According to some reports, the disease is the leading cause of death in the world. There are several factors that contribute to this disease. Heredity, obesity, smoking, drinking alcohol, high salt intake, diabetes, stress, etc. are among the causes of high blood pressure.

Ways to Control Blood Pressure

Today’s poor lifestyle such as inactivity and inappropriate nutrition has caused many diseases, including hypertension. Changing some of the wrong habits can prevent or control the disease. According to studies, proper exercise can reduce blood pressure by 4 to 9 mm Hg. In some people, this amount of activity and lower blood pressure makes it unnecessary to take any medication. Blood pressure is also higher in areas where salt intake is higher. Therefore, salt control is another necessary step. To go on diet and weight loss, next to abstaining from smoking and drinking alcohol along with treatment or stress relief are other important elements in preventing and controlling the disease.

Blood pressure medications are another option to control this disease. However, some blood pressure medications have side effects such as impotence.

However, the most important cause of hypertension that needs special attention is atherosclerosis. The disease is usually caused by the deposition of certain substances such as cholesterol and calcium on the vessel wall or by hardening the vessels. In addition to the above ways, some herbs and foods have an effective role in controlling blood pressure. Some natural supplements have also been produced using the ingredients of these herbs without the side effects of chemical drugs. Garlic products, for example, are effective preventers of atherosclerosis and hypertension. Consumption of hawthorn also reduces blood pressure by dilating the coronary arteries. Diabetes can worsen the hypertension through hardening of the arteries and atherosclerosis. Diabetic diet is one of the most effective preventive measures as well.

Rouhani Blames Trump for Failure of Talks in New York

rouhani

Addressing a weekly cabinet session on Wednesday, Rouhani thanked French President Emmanuel Macron for his efforts to mediate talks between Tehran and Washington on the sidelines of the recent meeting of the UN General Assembly in New York.

“He did his best in those 48 hours, especially in the last 24 hours, and we were supportive. The one who prevented us from achieving a result was the White House. Neither Paris nor Tokyo and other countries are to blame. All parties, along with Iran, tried hard,” Rouhani said.

Trump said in private messages to Europeans he was ready, but he publicly vowed to increase sanctions against the Islamic Republic of Iran, Rouhani noted.

The Europeans did not have any clear answer, and insisted that Trump was ready despite the rhetoric, Rouhani said.

“How could one believe [their claims]? Our Iranian smartness and vigilance urged us not to be deceived by their private messages. As he himself admitted, Iran has not failed in any negotiations, and we wanted the same thing: we wanted negotiations that lead to success,” Rouhani said.

Macron’s Plan for Meeting

He referred to the general framework pursued by Europe for talks between Tehran and Washington, and said Iran accepted the plan with some modifications in its terms.

According to Rouhani, the plan could generally be acceptable to Iran as it urged Iran not to develop nuclear weapons and to contribute to regional peace and security, and on the other hand obliged the US to lift the sanctions and bans on Iran’s business activities, allow the country to immediately resume its oil exports, and be able to access its revenues.

“There were the principles that the French had raised with the Americans, and then raised with us. So what currently circulating in the world newspapers and propaganda, and expressed in some way by the French president, is true,” he noted.

“However, I did not at all agree with the terms of the plan, because they were wrong, and the French president said ‘alright, tell us the terms you want and our foreign ministers will arrive at a conclusion, and that will be used as the basis for talks.”

According to Rouhani, Iranian officials said in meetings with Europeans that even if Iran accepts the plan and its modifications are made, “with what assurance are we going to take part in the meeting” with the US.

P4+1 Can Turn into P5+1

“During this period of time, we managed to foil the plot they had hatched, and to emphasize Iran does not escape negotiation, and is at the negotiating table. An important development in this regard was that everyone had gathered to re-form the P5+1 group of countries, which anti-Iran groups, the Israeli regime, the regional reactionary, and the White House claimed is dead,” Rouhani said.

“All the insistence, talks, and contacts were aimed at forming the P5+1 once again, and we said we were OK with that under appropriate circumstances, and on the condition that those who harmed the P5+1 return to the group’s norms.”

“The P5+1 was based on the commitment of a deal, and they should move towards that. If they do so, there’s no problem. The P4+1 convened in New York; that could turn into the P5+1 as well,” he noted.

“When someone says the P5+1, it means the JCPOA; if he admits he agrees with the JCPOA and that he has made a mistake, that would become the P5+1,” Rouhani said.

Doors Still Open

Rouhani said the road is still open, and the Europeans and others are making efforts despite the recent failure of talks in New York.

“The road is not blocked; the doors are open if the Iranian nation’s rights and their dignity are respected and they are ready to pay attention to the nation’s honour,” Rouhani said, adding that there is no dead-end and Iran will continue its path.

Rouhani said it was important to Americans that the issue turns into a big news in the media, and that would help them change the US’ domestic politics.

However, he stressed, it does not matter to Iran what their intention is. “To us, our national interests matter, and the principle is national interests, the Islamic Republic of Iran, and the Iranian nation.”

“I spared no effort to protect the rights of the Iranian nation, and if I had received the minimum – not maximum – assurance that the negotiations would result in something that served the Iranian nation and protected the nation’s dignity, I would have definitely done it,” he noted.

“As I have already announced as the representative of the Iranian nation, and I repeat it now, I’m ready for any sacrifice that would result in securing the rights and welfare of the people,” he added.

He said whatever Iran has is the result of the nation’s resistance. “If so many European countries, one after another, come to visit the Iranian nation’s representative, if we spent all the time we had in those +70 hours to meet them and still we didn’t have enough time to meet five or six of them, that’s because of the Iranian nation and their resistance.”

“Had the Iranian nation not resisted, no one would come to see us, no one would insist. No one would come to say ‘we’ve found a solution’. If it wasn’t for our Armed Forces’ show of national power to defend the country, and if we had stood idle and look at their drone intruding into our country’s airspace, we wouldn’t have the current position,” he added.

Police Equipment Exhibit Underway in Tehran

The 18th International Police and Safety Equipment and Accessories Exhibition opened in the Iranian capital on October 1, 2019, and will run until October 3.

The event is held with the theme “Police, Security and Safety: Backup for Production Boom.”

“The exhibition is aimed at updating and upgrading police equipment both qualitatively and quantitatively, drawing on cutting-edge technology of the world to facilitate and speed up police missions, and boosting police potential and technologies,” said police official Colonel Reza Asgharian.

“62 inventions and works from the provinces of East Azarbaijan, West Azarbaijan, Fars, Mazandaran, Ardabil, Gilan, Markazi and Kurdistan are present at the exhibit. Also, 20 pavilions together with various facilities are available to inventors for free,” said the colonel.

He said 37 inventors and innovators as well as 155 foreign-made brand products are present at the event.

Fate of 2020 US Election Depends on Public Health Insurance

“The Health Insurance Act” is the only winning card for Democratic Party and its supporters. Over 40 million Americans have no valid health insurance due to high costs of health care and their financial inability to afford it. In addition, about 160 million people are not satisfied with their private insurance, and believe it is very expensive and insufficient.

Therefore, getting the votes of 200 million dissatisfied people who are eligible, and form half of the US population, could be crucial for the 2020 election.

Election debates of Democratic Party are carrying out based on two different views and plans. The debate’s location and time is determined by National Democratic Committee. Choosing the main candidate in the 2020 election is carried out at a gathering called National Democratic Congress. It is likely that the winning candidate will be determined, few month before gathering, considering the percentage of popularity and votes in primary election. The last state primary election for determining the main candidate was held in New York State.

By April 2020, twelve debates will be held between Democratic candidates. The number of candidates participating in first and second debates were 20 people, with some leaving each debate.

The first debate was held in Miami, Florida, hosted by NBC, and the second debate was held in Detroit, Illinois, hosted by CNN.

The third debate was held in Houston, Texas, hosted by ABC channel, with the 10 top candidates that were arranged based on their popularity in polls, winning at least %2 of popular vote, and 130,000 financial contributors.

In the last three debates, 10 Democratic candidates presented different views on organizing public health insurance, and criticized health status in Trump administration. The statistics such as 86 million uninsured or underinsured Americans, Trump and Department of Justice’s effort to repeal the Obamacare, and annual bankruptcy of over 500,000 Americans due to high treatment costs, were all cases for more pressure on Trump, and attracted more audience.

The first Democrats’ plan is a totally socialist, which will establish a health care system, and propose a %100 governmental and developed health care system. One of the good points of the plan is to cover all Americans, and to reduce people’s share of health care with the federal government funding.

This annual plan imposes a huge cost of $ 3 trillion on the government, and reduces the competitiveness and executive efficiency by eliminating private sector from health care system. The key point is that the plan will frighten capitalists and political and economic critics, so will push them to support Trump.

Famous supporters of the plan include candidates like Bernie Sanders, Elizabeth Warren and Kamala Harris. The plan’s supporters are mostly transformational or hard-line Democrats.

The second plan is the reformation of the existing health system, which is based on the Obamacare health insurance. The plan will maintain the private sector, but will significantly reduce its share and influence in the market, while increasing the government’s control over health system. Currently, the US health system is being ran by large profit-oriented companies that are inefficient because of the control of free trade in the field of health care.

The strengths of the plan are that it is short-term, inexpensive and pragmatic, backing by a moderate Democrat Joe Biden. The lack of full coverage of American population and lack of transparency are among the weaknesses of the plan.

During Obama presidency, a health insurance policy called the Obamacare was applied, which Trump sought to repeal and replace it with “Trumpcare”.

The Obamacare is the most comprehensive law since Social Security Act effective in 1935. The law was passed to guarantee the quality of health insurances and reduce the number of uninsured people. It also aimed insurance companies to cover certain diseases, and insure people with almost same price regardless of gender or previous disease. In the Obamacare, parents can cover children up to the age of 26 with their own insurance. In 2017, the Obamacare considered an amount for the franchise of insured people, which was $ 7150 for each person and $14300 for each family per year.

With the Obamacare, the number of uninsured people dropped from %16 to %9. According to the statistics about 11,800,000 people used the Obamacare in 2018, and 20 million people were covered by health insurance.

Since the cost of health care in the US is annually over $ 3500 billion, the government must provide %50 of this amount. Under the Obamacare plan, some taxes are increased, and people with over $200,000 income per year were required to pay higher taxes.

With paying more taxes, the Obamacare was not so popular among people in the first few years, but polls show that the majority of people now oppose its repealing.

Repealing the Obamacare was one of the main slogans in Trump’s campaign.

The Republicans considered the Obamacare as a government intervention in private sector and seriously resisted the Democrats. Eventually, the plan to repeal the health care system failed to be passed by 51 votes against and 49 in favor in the Senate on July 28, 2017. It was another failure for Trump.

Names of 10 candidates in the third debate are as follow:

  1. Joe Biden (vice president to former President) 2. Bernie Sanders (Vermont Senator) 3. Elizabeth Warren (Massachusetts Senator) 4. Kamala Harris (California Senator) 5. Pete Buttigieg (Mayor of Indiana) 6. Andrew Yang (Technology Entrepreneur) 7. Julián Castro (Former United States Secretary of Housing and Urban Development) 8. Cory Booker (New Jersey Senator) 9. Beto O’Rourke (former US representative) 10. Amy Klobuchar (Minnesota Senator).

Tehran Has No Problem Talking to Saudis: Oil Minister

Resolving Oil Market Issues Requires Global Cooperation: Iran Minister

“We have never had any problems with regards to having meetings with Saudi officials; rather, it is they that always have problems,” said the oil minister upon arrival in the Russian capital, Moscow, where he is to attend the 21st oil and energy ministers’ meeting of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF).

He touched upon the drone attacks by the Ansarullah movement on Saudi oil installations which led to a drop in the country’s crude output.

“We see that the market is back to normal,” he said.

“I never believed that the attack had knocked out half of Saudi oil production. As I have said before, I think Saudi Arabia has politically aggrandized the issue to create the impression that energy security in the world has been jeopardized,” said the oil minister.

“Oil prices have been on the decline over the past 7 to 10 days, and the six-dollar increase to crude prices have been cut again,” he noted.

Zanganeh further underlined that the energy market should steer clear of political considerations.

“While elaborating on my positions in Russia, I will stress that the energy market should be non-political in order to prevent unilateral and illegal intervention in it,” he said.

He further emphasized the importance of Tehran-Moscow cooperation in the energy sector.

“We have strategic relations with Russia on all fronts, including in the energy sector. In the GECF meeting, we will have an opportunity to express our stances,” he noted.

Zanganeh added he will have one-on-one meetings with his counterparts from Russia and other countries during his trip.

He reminded that the GECF meeting was held in Tehran for the first time, saying a rise in the number of its members in the Moscow event shows the initiative has been a successful one.

The GECF conference opens in Moscow on Thursday, October 3, 2019.

Iran Urges Resolution of Regional Woes through Dialogue

“We believe that if there is a problem in the region, it should be solved through talks and political means, and military approaches do not work,” Rouhani said in a meeting with Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong in Yerevan on Tuesday.

The meeting took place on the sidelines of the summit of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) underway in Armenia’s capital.

Rouhani pointed to Iran’s recent announcement of a new initiative to ensure peace in the region, expressing hope that regional countries would join the plan and help enhance peace and security in the region.

The Iranian president further said Tehran was ready to share its “invaluable” experiences with Singapore in various areas, including the fight against terror, drugs and systematic crimes.

Lee Hsien Loong, for his part, hailed the two countries’ “friendly” and “constructive” ties, calling for the expansion of trade volume between the two nations.

“Unfortunately, the volume of economic relations between the two countries has declined. We are keen to help compensate for this,” he said.

In comments before leaving Tehran to Yerevan on Monday, Rouhani said Iran would officially join the Eurasian Economic Union on October 27, marking the Islamic Republic’s first membership in a regional economic union.

He noted that according to Iran’s agreement with the EAEU, 502 Iranian goods will be subject to preferential tariff rates for the exports to the EAEU members.

War on Terror Needs Global Resolve: Iran DM

Speaking in a phone conversation with his Japanese counterpart Taro Kono, Brigadier General Amir Hatami specifically put emphasis on the importance of security in the Persian Gulf region.

“No country can ensure its security in light of instability in another country. Security in the world, including in the Persian Gulf region, cannot be provided in isolation. Today, terrorism is not bound by time and place. So, we believe fighting extremism and terrorism requires international resolve, especially a security bond between East and West Asia,” General Hatami said.

He further touched upon the drone attacks by Ansarullah movement on Aramco oil facilities in Saudi Arabia.

“The accusations levelled by some against Iran with regards to that incident are unfounded, and there is no evidence that suggest Iran was involved in it,” he said.

“Those who point the finger at Iran either can’t or don’t want to believe the Yemeni nation’s military capabilities,” the Iranian defence minister noted.

“Iran seeks to establish stability and security in the region with the help of other countries, and supports peace and security,” said the top general.

He then stressed the importance of Iran-Japan defence cooperation.

“Iran is a good partner and friend as far as defence cooperation is concerned, and would like to expand its relations with Japan,” he said.

General Hatami also congratulated Kono on his designation as Japan’s defence minister.

“I hope this phone conversation will set the stage for, and open a new chapter in defence ties between the two countries,” he said.

General Hatami underscored that Tehran and Tokyo have always had good relations on all fronts, particularly in political, economic and cultural fields.

“The trip to Iran by Mr. Abe and his important meeting with the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution [Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei] as well as his meeting again with [Iranian President] Hassan Rouhani on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly session in New York indicate the cordial relations between the two countries,” he noted.

The Japanese defence minister, in turn, expressed his views on regional developments and expounded on Tokyo’s stances.

He also welcomed Iran’s role in helping ensure security in the region, and invited General Hatami to travel to Japan.

The two sides also agreed to continue mutual consultations.

Arba’een A Manifestation of Unity: VP Jahangiri

In an address to the closing ceremony of a conference on Arba’een held in Tehran on Tuesday, Jahangiri said the martyrdom of Imam Hussein (PBUH) and his companions on the day of Ashura carried the message of advocating justice and freedom, religious reform, and uprising against cruelty and tyranny.

He also noted that Arba’een mourning ceremony, which falls forty days after Ashura, is a great effort to convey those messages and moral values to future generations.

The vice president said the Arba’een procession is such a miraculous event that has created unbreakable bonds between Iran and Iraq, the two countries that fought a full-blown war with each other for eight years in the 1980s.

After the fall of Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein, the ties between the two neighbors improved so rapidly that people of Iraq are impatient to host millions of Iranian pilgrims during Arba’een season, he added.

Jahangiri also highlighted the presence of people from all walks of life in the Arba’een procession, saying different people from around the world flock to Iraq to spread the message of unity in spite of their ethnic and religious differences.

What has kept the Arba’een alive and has turned it into a major social custom is the element of enlightenment in this religious rite, the vice president noted, stressing that such a huge movement must be presented to the world with the works of art.

“The committed artists must try to display a real image of the philosophy of the Arba’een procession to the world,” Jahangiri concluded, stressing that the media could be a loud voice for the promotion of Islam, love for peace and justice, devotion, resistance and freedom-seeking.

Each year, a huge crowd of people, even non-Muslims, attend the commemoration of Arba’een, marking the 40th day after the martyrdom anniversary of the third Shiite imam. The city of Karbala hosts the holy shrine of Imam Hussein (PBUH).

During the Arba’een event, volunteers set up thousands of congregation halls and pavilions in Najaf and Karbala and along the road between them to offer services for the travelers and pilgrims.

Iran Congratulates PRC on 70th Anniversary

In a Tuesday message to his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping, Iranian President Rouhani congratulated the Chinese national day.

He said the relations between Iran and China have become “strategic” in light of a long-term outlook on the historic ties between the two nations, their cultural commonalities, and the developments in the international relations.

Rouhani also expressed confidence that concerted efforts by Tehran and Beijing would serve their mutual interests and contribute to international peace and stability.

Meanwhile, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif has also congratulated the PRC on the foundation anniversary, in a message in Chinese language on his Twitter account.

“Today is the 70th anniversary of the People’s Republic of China. After 70 years, China has become a symbol of peaceful development and people’s well-being. China’s adherence to multilateralism has played an important role in international security and peace. The stable consultation between Iran and China is a good sign for the historic relationship between the two ancient Asian civilizations. On behalf of the Iranian people, I wish to congratulate the People’s Republic of China and its people on the 70th anniversary of the founding,” Zarif said.

In another message on Tuesday, Iranian First Vice-President Eshaq Jahangiri congratulated Premier of the State Council of the People’s Republic of China Li Keqiang on the PRC’s foundation anniversary.

“The relations between the two countries have developed and strengthened in all dimensions, particularly in the economic sector, and we are witnessing progress in the bilateral ties in various arenas,” Jahangiri added.

Another congratulatory message to China has been sent by the Foreign Ministry’s Spokesperson Seyyed Abbas Mousavi, who has also written a text in Chinese.

“I congratulate the People’s Republic of China on its 70th anniversary and wish China prosperity and hope that the strategic and comprehensive relations between the two countries will be further developed and deepened,” the spokesman tweeted.

The PRC was founded on September 21, 1949, with a ceremony celebrating the forming of the Central People’s Government taking place in Tiananmen Square on October 1 that year.

The Central People’s Government passed the Resolution on the National Day of the People’s Republic of China on December 2, 1949, and declared October 1 as the National Day.
