Iran’s President Responds to Trump’s Attack Threat

In a post on his Twitter account on Monday, President Rouhani dismissed US President Donald Trump’s threat to attack dozens of Iranian targets.

“Those who refer to the number 52 should also remember the number 290,” the Iranian president said in the post, making a reference to Iran Air Flight 655, a passenger plane that was shot down by a US Navy guided-missile cruiser in the Persian Gulf waters in 1988 and took the lives of 290 civilians.

“Never threaten the Iranian nation,” the Iranian president warned Trump.

Top Iranian General Qassem Soleimani was assassinated in a strike by American drones near Baghdad International Airport in the early hours of Friday.

Iran Slams Instagram for Removing Posts on General Qassem Soleimani

“In an undemocratic and scandalous move, Instagram has removed the voice of the innocence of nation – related to the assassination of General Qassem Soleimani,” Rabiei regretted in a post on his Twitter account on Monday.

This comes as “terrorists are free” to make their voices heard on Instagram, he added.

He said the move indicates the double-standard policy of those who claim to be advocates of democracy and freedom of media.

His comments came after many Iranian celebrities and athletes shared posts about the assassination of General Soleimani, but Instagram deleted all such posts.

In a tweet on Monday, Zarif posted photos of the gigantic crowd of people attending the funeral held for IRGC Quds Force Commander General Qassem Soleimani in Tehran, and asked Trump, “Have you EVER seen such a sea of humanity in your life, Trump?”

“Do you still want to listen to the clowns advising you on our region?” he added, referring to Trump’s recent order to assassinate the Iranian commander and his comrades in Baghdad.

“And do you still imagine you can break the will of this great nation & its people?”

Zarif finally stated that the “end of malign US presence in West Asia has begun.”

His comments came one day after the Iraqi Parliament voted for the expulsion of American troops from the Arab country.

Speaking on the sidelines of a funeral ceremony held for General Soleimani in Tehran on Monday, General Hajizadeh said General Soleimani’s revenge will not end by launching four missiles or targeting a US base or even by killing Trump.

“None of these have the same value as the blood of this martyr,” he noted.

“The only thing that can compensate the blood of this martyr is the complete destruction of America in the region,” he added.

Lebanon’s Gebral Bassil and Pakistan’s Shah Mehmood Qureshi also condoled with the Iranian nation and government over the martyrdom of General Soleimani.

The phone conversations were held on Sunday, following similar calls by High Representative of the European Union Josep Borrell, the foreign ministers of Azerbaijan Republic, Oman, Armenia, and Turkmenistan.

Qatar’s foreign minister also paid a visit to Tehran on Saturday to hold talks on the assassination of IRGC Quds Force Commander Major General Qassem Soleimani, who was martyred in a US drone attack early Friday.

A senior advisor to Iran’s Leader- Ali Akbar Velayati

Velayati made the remarks in a commemoration ceremony held for IRGC Quds Force Commander Qassem Soleimani on Monday in Tehran.

He pointed to the recent joint drills held between Iran, Russia, China, and described it as a turning point in opposition to the US moves in the region.

In spite of the political rhetoric of the ignorant President of the United States, Iran will act in a way that makes the US feel remorse, he said.

Veleyati referred to the US’ assassination of General Soleimani in Iraq and said “it was stupid of Americans to martyr Commander Soleimani, as the experience shows that they have always been defeated by the planning of Iran and the Resistance Front.”

Hailing Soleimani as “the axis of resistance during the events in Yemen, Iraq and Syria”, Velayati noted that if it were not for Soleimani’s acts of valor Baghdad would have fallen into the hands of ISIS and Damascus into the hands of extremists.

Velayati went on to point out a number of unique features of General Soleimani’s character. “When the issue of the separation of Kirkuk from Iraq came up everybody was worried about the consequences, but Soleimani’s discretion led to the return of Kirkuk to Iraq.”

“He had the closest link to Russian President and was the main factor in the unity between Iran and Russia,” Velayati added.
