World Will Learn from Iran’s Fight against COVID-19: WHO

World Will Learn from Iran's Fight against COVID-19 WHO

After visiting the medical centres, laboratories and getting to know the activities and capabilities of the Islamic Republic of Iran in the areas of urgent diagnosis, quarantine and rapid treatment, the WHO officials have offered their assessment of the Islamic Republic of Iran’s efforts to combat and control the coronavirus in a meeting with foreign ambassadors to Tehran at the foreign ministry building.

During the meeting, Rick Brennan, Regional Emergency Director for the World Health Organization’s (WHO) Eastern Mediterranean Regional Office, and his colleagues said this is a new disease and the world’s knowledge is still inadequate about it.

At the beginning, Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister for International and Legal Affairs Mohsen Baharvand thanked the World Health Organization for its assistance, pointing out that the global nature of the new contagious disease makes regional and international cooperation necessary to help solve the problem. He also warned about politicising the issue and creating negative mentalities about specific countries.

Then, Rick Brennan noted that “Iran’s 16-day experience in the fight against the disease indicates that the Iranian government’s approach to mobilizing all government facilities under the guidance of the Health Ministry, as well as mobilising all community and civil society facilities, is a fair and rational approach.”

The goal at this stage is to keep the number of infected people decreasing and to monitor the treatment process, he underlined.

Brennan further criticised countries that have imposed unprecedented restrictions on air and land travel and trade under the pretext of Corona outbreak, saying that international health regulations to which all UN member states and the World Organization have joined do not recommend such measures.

“Rather, they believe the business and the movement of people should continue while obserbing hygiene considerations, as the consequences of disruption in these matters make the fight against Corona more difficult and complex.”

He urged the ambassadors to advise their governments to stop imposing unnecessary restrictions.

The head of WHO delegation said he was impressed by the knowledge and commitment of the Iranian medical staff after visiting several medical centres in Tehran. He further added that he is confident the world would learn from Iran’s experiences in the fight against corona.

In the end, the ambassadors asked questions and the representatives of Iran’s Health Ministry and the World Health Organization answered.

The delegation is scheduled to visit the holy city of Qom as well.

Major General Hossein Salami said the Islamic Republic will emerge victorious in fight against the virus which first entered China, and then Iran and other parts of the world.

Iran Launches National Campaign against Corona

Iran to Resume Trade with Arab States in Compliance with Health Protocols

Saeed Namaki said in the past couple of days, the Health Ministry was going to launch the national campaign to combat Corona in the form of a cross-sectoral cooperation in the country.

“More than 17,000 health houses and over 9,000 health centres in cities, suburbs, and large villages are planned to start an organised work in collaboration with Basij forces and medical staff as well as health organisations.”

He went on to say that as part of this plan, suspected or infected COVID-19 cases are invited to the centres, and those who are examined by physicians and healthcare providers as infected ones get their medications. Then, they go back home, be quarantined with what they have learned, and those around them receive the necessary training. The staff also get in touch with them via phone or applications.

“If, after several days, the suspected cases need hospitalisation, they can go directly to the treatment centres that they were notified of. If there are cases where our colleagues need to go to their homes at the request of their families or because of difficulties in moving patients, our staff will be provided with masks, and complete safety coverage to take the patients to hospitals. They also disinfect and spray homes and isolate other family members. However, our visits to homes can be very rare and in emergency cases.”

Under the National Corona Action Plan, some teams are dispatched to the contaminated cities to check the commute of the infected or suspected, and those who are diagnosed are sent to quarantines, he underlined.

“We have provided facilities and equipment at all referral and admission centres for patients with coronavirus, and I hope with close cooperation we will be able to contain this virus as soon as possible.”

He made the comments at a meeting to review the implementation of the National National Corona Action Plan at the Ministry of Health.

He further noted that “One of the achievements of the country is that the mortality rate among the diagnosed cases is decreasing dramatically. The number of people who recover is far greater than those who die.”

Iran announced on Thursday that the number of those infected with Coronavirus has reached 3513, out of whom 107 have lost their lives.

Iran’s Leader Condemns Massacre of Indian Muslims

Iran’s Leader Condemns Massacre of Indian Muslims

Iran’s Leader Condemns Massacre of Indian MuslimsAyatollah Khamenei in a post on Twitter called for the end of the tragedy in India, stating that the hearts of the world’s Muslims are aching due to the recent massacre.

He said the government of India is obliged to stand up to the extremist Hindus and their proponent parties.

Ayatollah Khamenei also stated that the Indian government must stop its isolation in the Muslim world by stopping the killing of Muslims.

The violence came following protests by India’s Muslim minority against the Indian government’s approval of a controversial law last December.

The law offers a path to Indian citizenship for six religious groups from three neighbouring countries, but specifically excludes Muslims. Critics say the law is discriminatory and comes in the wake of other severe government measures against the country’s Muslims such as withdrawal of autonomy for Muslim-majority Jammu and Kashmir province.

While Muslims are being murdered in India, the world is very slow to condemn the massacre. The violence saw the Hindu mobsters setting mosques on fire and burning Muslims alive in their homes or dragging them out into the streets and lynching them.
